This is how you set up a ranger for max LB damage. Rune of Pack give 2% less crit chance then Rune of the Ranger, but offers 175 more power, this power in turn bumps up your damage more then the added ferocity from ranger runes.

Correct DPS rotation is: RAO, Signet of the Wild, Quickening Zephyr then use Rapid Fire. End result should be around 13-15k max on the heavy golem, upwards of 17k on light golem, depending on how lucky you are with critical hits.

PRO-ranger here, all go away!
Ranger runes gives you 7% of raw damage output! You, ranger-hater.
Also “RAO, Signet of the Wild, Quickening Zephyr” sure, you can use it every time just on demand. And only noobs will use QZ, because you need 2 dodges to avoid RF completely, but with QZ it’s enough only 1. Genius, just genius.
Also, do I need to say, that QZ do not increases your damage – what point in placing it to rotation?

The reason to take quickening zephyr, IS TO KILL EM BEFORE THEY REALIZE THEY SHOULDA DODGED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

It is also a handy thing to have, WHEN YOU WANNA MAUL PEOPLE BEFORE THEY KNOW THAT THEY SHOULD DODGE.

It is a stunbreak, so unless you expect massive hammer stun spam, it can more often then not prove more potent then LR, because you can use it both offensively and defensively.

The more you know.

That can only work against a very noob player, or one of those people that have some serious reflex problems.

I have found over the last 2 and a 1/2 years I have had this conversation plenty in-game and… this is just a discussion, nothing more. I just never thought to bring it here on the forums until now.

Who else finds this similar to myself?

I am 36 years old, female… I am disabled with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and CP (Cerebral Palsy, though mild)… I use to work… a little over 10 years ago, but life obviously had other plans for me. My husband helped get me into these games back in the day, though he never played them, as a way for… me to keep my mind occupied, focused on other things besides my health.

Now, these days, I live in these games. I put much time and much effort into what I do while in it. But in-game I have come across a lot of other players. who are not like me, and quick to downplay certain things players like me do. One of the reasons being it is a huge waste of time, waste of effort and if any of us spend real-life money on this game, we are fools.

For me, I have to disagree and for the sake of others who are in a similar situation as me… For me, this game allows me to focus on something other than the pain I am in. Once upon a time, I never thought I was as good a player as many others but now… I feel differently. And when new updates are slated to come out in the future, I am excited, cause I can’t wait to see how my world is going to change. And when Anet introduced Taimi, yes, I was almost certainly in tears with joy cause… I feel Anet helped bring a real life fact into the game, that with the way they have built her, was not often seen in any other MMO that I ever played.

Thank you, ArenaNet, for that.. it made me feel as though I was not still shoved in the corner watching the rest of life fly by, unable to take part in it because I am ill and physically unable to. Many things I cannot do in real life anymore, but in this game, I can do all those things and then-some. I can play, run, fight, craft, donate, help people.

This game is a way of life for me, and I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way. If I was not meant to live in the world the way most do, I praise ArenaNet for giving me another world I could live in and be a valuable member of, in which I am no longer invisible to the world.

This… can’t be wrong.

I think rangers are in a good place at the moment. I solo roam as a full berserker S/D thief and longbow rangers are free kills. In group fights, just focus on them first. Most of the time, they down themselves with reflects from Dagger Storm. It’s the melee/condition rangers that I have to worry about…

Why has there been so many conspiracy theorists active lately?

It’s well known that instead of coding the one loot table for everyone, games developers prefer to spend vast amounts of time making fiendishly complicated systems so that some of their players get better stuff than others. Accounts of this are always supported by large quantities of well-documented evidence, which takes into account all other factors that might be influential, so there’s really very little doubt about it.

On the other hand it’s pretty obvious that if someone gets 11 pre-cursors, and others who play everyday since release and got nothing. That there might be something wrong with the rng system.

I thought I just said that. The truth is, there really is no RNG system. Colin Johanson just sits at a desk and individually chooses who gets each precursor and when. Some people he likes, others he’s not so fond of.

I also heard that Colin is actually Santa Claus, but I haven’t found any evidence of that yet.

If the community wants OS to be a dueling zone, it’s going to be a dueling zone. Just like behind the windmill. Just because they aren’t specified as dueling areas doesn’t mean they aren’t. You seem to know that OS is considered a dueling area and still interrupt duels. You aren’t someone I’d like to associate with.

In addition, duelists, spvpers and WvWers are the real PvPers of this game, not puzzle campers.

Well that is the issue here, these duelers has driven out us that wanted the real PvP action, the sheer number of those not capable for real fights became so many that the community was “forced” to their will – And I for one won’t sit back and just LET that continue.

And I acknowledged that people USE Obsidian Sanctum as a duel zone, but it is NOT a duel zone, so why should I hold back and not do PvP battle in a PvP area to earn badges? Now as I said, just to be “kind” I don’t SEEK out those dueling in the “arena” and so on to kill them for the bags / badges (Although as they cast us out: probably I should…) But once they start dueling OUTSIDE that zone and gets mad for that PvP suddenly takes place in a PvP environment… THAT is what I find wrong with whats happened to the Obsidian Sanctum.

Edit: Forgot the last part – It’s not about being a “Puzzle camper” heck that word didn’t exist back when Obsidian Sanctum was the REAL Obsidian Sanctum. It was called PvP combat, kill or be killed.

The road is for driving in.

I assume you would run-over a child, because “road is intended for driving”.

Why exactly? If you are going to call for a nerf you need to provide an argument that holds water.

I think the arguments you are looking for are in this 5-page long thread.. to name a few:

  • This is the only weapon+class that has such a far range and so much damage with it: it does not encourage strategic or skillful play, instead it encourages you to stand in your tower and shoot at enemies who have no alternative than to run out of your range.
  • Since no other class has this kind of range it’s poorly balanced. Counters are either speccing to counter one specific builds, or relying on high mobility to get out and in fast.
  • Rapid fire is a broken skill since it does not stop firing when an enemy goes stealthed, and people who go full zerk can shoot you to death with just using that one skill.

Many more arguments all over the thread, but I think you get the gist. Range is too far which makes it unbalanced when compared with the high damage. Therefore: nerf.

I said arguments that hold water. Each complaint you have listed has been destroyed by numerous people. Unless you can come up with a valid reason to nerf longbow I suggest you spend more time improving your personal skill and less time complaining.

Lol @ Ranger burst not being fair. When power rangers were getting blown up by thieves we got nothing but l2p and we did. We learned to track, predict and dodge invisible attackers. You can see RF. It is not instant burst. It can be blocked, reflected etc, even if your slightly late with your reaction you will still block most of the damage. L2P.

As for those people saying they shouldn’t have tweak their build or change a utility are severely lacking perspective. For the last 2 years thieves and mesmers have effectively nullified any other zerker build. (this is still true in sPvP) Rangers didn’t just have to tweak our power builds, we had to abandon power builds all together or fight an uphill battle.

All that being said, I would still rather face a ranger than any other class since I’ve put so much time into ranger and know the class in and out. Also, I rarely use lb and prefer the melee ranger. Have had great fun roaming the last few days on s/d, s/a celestial build.

is one of those moments when ppl say anet is not playing www. Already from upper-mid T3, servers don’t have enough ppl to scout every tower or objective. During the day, map is empty except main keep. So when I see the devs saying you need to hold this and that, you gonna activate whatever gimmick… WITH WHO?

You see, this is what I’m talking about the problem is with “population imbalance”. The world is made of three types of people:
1) The people who complain that things aren’t getting done
2) The people who’s get the kitten done
3) And the people who don’t give a kitten
90% of the players in WvW are either 1s or 3s. And this than divides servers. The servers who have the most 2s will get a lot of kitten done because a 2 looks at a situation and doesn’t quit until they are victorious.
Let me give u a scenario: say Kaineng is faced up against a server that has so much coverage an numbers, they spawn camp is LITERALLY everywhere. I’m talking Zergs at all 3 exits of every spawn on every map. I’m just gonna try to kill as many of those noobs as I can before I die, and I will keep doing it until they get tired of killing me or I kill all of them. This never happens, and I am a bit of an extremist.
So how does this solve your problem?
Hold the thing YOURSELF, activate the thing-a-mabober YOURSELF! Obviously there isn’t no one on the map of you are there. Last time I checked, if you actually bother to log on, you are considered a player. That is the point im trying to make. Don’t be so caught up in your zerg that you forget how to think for your self. I don’t give a kitten what rank you are or how many kills you have if you have done all of that through zerging. If you can’t defend something by yourself, you aren’t a REAL wvwer. Quite honestly, I dint believe you can call yourself a evert until you can solo a tower, and if you sit in a zerg all of your time in WvW, you probably can’t.
Moral of the rant:
Stop moping, grow a pair, and get the kitten done YOURSELF!

The problem is that I don’t play an MMO to play by myself. I want to play with other people. That’s where the fun is.

I do things solo like scout or take a camp sometimes. But that’s not really fun. The fun comes with playing with others. And if there’s a lack of people online then you can’t do that. And too many servers have a lack of people.

I do think that there is a lack of leadership in WvW. (Perhaps that’s what you’re saying between the lines.) But leading is hard.

I am amazed at what I’ve seen in terms of human psychology and sociology here in GW2. The presence of one good leader can make all the difference. That leader goes and poof – everyone else evaporates. Pretty interesting to watch. But I digress.

Spiritus’ point is valid even if he didn’t say it well. A new map will not fix the underlying issues of WvW. Population/Coverage Imbalance being the main one.

I have a thing or two to say about this. First off, I have played WvW since launch. It is a fantastic game mode that, I acknowledge, has not had enough attention compared to PvE, but that is understandable since most of the gw2 population plays PvE. I anticipated a new map being released as soon as it was verified as an expansion. Now that WvW is finally getting something, all you are doing is looking BACKWARDS a at what didn’t happen months ago instead of being excited that now we have had two major WvW patches (sneak attack, even though some of you complain this didnt show any effort, and the newly announced map).
Now, I understand your frustration, but it should not lead to you making inaccurate assumptions about the work of the devs on this map. Yes, some of the changes implemented in WvW have been unpopular, but many of the major ones have been indisputably beneficial to the game (WvW points is the main one im thinking of). As the dev said, there haven’t even been pictures released of the map. You are simply assuming that they will make it like EOTM, which it was explicitly stated would not happen (in the PAX). They are trying to implement newer ideas, which I personally think sound awesome, and you should be happy that something is being done rather than nothing.
Also, I’m fairly sure that this map is going to be a borderland map (my interpretation of what I have read on it, correct me if I’m wrong). This means it can’t be thrown away to Ktrainers because dedicated WvW players care about home and enemy BLs. (Again, I couldn’t watch the PAX so I may be mistaken on the way this map is being implemented. If so, someone please correct me)
Finally, I would like to say thank you thank you to Anet for implementing a new map in the upcoming expansion, even though a release date would be much appreciated ????. I am personally very excited about this new map

I agree with a lot of what you stated. I am also a WvW player myself, through beta, launch and still today.

We have not been given much detail on any of it, and at least it does show Anet is thinking about WvW a bit. I mean they could have said “No new borderland map” and then there would be complaints about that.(As there are complaints now for the addition of a new map.)

Seems players want to just complain weather or not they get a new WvW map.

(Now I do agree with concerns over it being too much like EOTM, however I will reserve judgment on that until I play on the new map a bit..lol)

In WvW I hate it when….

….I am on my warrior who only has melee weapons and a ranged class attacks me. All ranged weapons should be disabled when a ranged class initiates a fight with me.

….I am roaming on my thief and am attacked by three people at once. Two of them should be automatically disconnected at the start of the fight to make it more even.

….I am on my support guardian and the enemy stops focusing me and switches to my teammates instead because of my high defenses. The game should force enemies to be only able to attack me.

….I am on my elementalist and enemies don’t stand in my meteor shower after I cast. The game should force enemies to stand in the red circle and soak up the damage, like in PvE.

….I am on the WvW forums listening to people complain about stealth mechanics, because they haven’t spent enough time in WvW to learn how to deal with them.

HARDOFREADING is the same guy that refused to fight me because I was Silver ranked and claimed I was a zergling not worth his time.

I spend a lot of time in WvW, mostly roaming.. I take mental notes of every person I cross, especially the ones that take the time to message me. This was at least 5 months ago and I remember him being an Asura Thief.

I wouldn’t take anything he says seriously as he judges your level of skill by your rank, which means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things..

Also, a well played Ranger is a very difficult fight but the same can be said about any profession. The majority of Rangers, as others have said, will go in to panic mode as soon as you get within melee range. Doing so is easier said than done but when you learn how to kite, properly use your weapons and utilities you shouldn’t have any trouble. Don’t claim things are OP until you try it first hand. I remember when I used to think Thief was OP (which a lot of people here also seem to still think, sadly enough…) then I played it and oh how my opinion did change.. They are certainly powerful but it’s also a very punishing profession to play. One slip and you’re toast. Sure you can stealth and teleport around like crazy but if you mess up you’re going to pay with your life.

I only PvP and WvW, I completely forgot about the Ogre Pet Whistle thing you can get in PvE. Well I’m convinced, rangers are OP. I mean the only way you could stop a ranger that was running something like this would be…. I dunno… sneezing on them or something.

The thing you’re ignoring about the melee classes in this game is they have an abundance of ways to get into melee range and maintain that range. While the Ranger has some kiting tools, there aren’t many on the LB+GS combo that is all too common. It’s also worth mentioning that despite the supposed strengths you list, the class still hasn’t found a way to break into the meta in PvP, WvW, GvG or competitive guild groups.

Being completely honest, unless you’re a Necromancer, a Ranger isn’t going to present an insurmountable hill you can’t climb. While the Ranger is certainly strong, a nerf while the class is still mostly obsolete seems premature without compensation elsewhere.

It’s a very bad change and a step in the wrong direction.

My main concern is that in EU servers, outside of primetime, it’s already very hard to find good fights, especially in the borderlands.

The removal of white swords will obviously worsen it as stuff will be capped without warning.
Most of the times I play outside primetime me or my small group are the only ones from my server on that bl. It is impossible to “scout” for enemies who already outnumber you on 8 or 10 different possible locations, it’s already hard enough getting there with the swords giving us some warning, finding the enemies blindly will be very hard, not to mention incredibly boring.

I don’t really care much for ppt, the only reason I play wvw is to have some fun fights. WvW will likely be dead for 19h a day now, unless you still care about the score.

It has to be Quagganzilla, we removed their temple, drained most of their lake.

Quaggan experimented using their own berserker state along with stolen Krait artifacts. The lore fits WvW.

If the winning side doesn’t stop Quaggan critical mass then Quagganzilla rises out of the 10 foot depths of what was left of the lake and destroys Bay, NW tower, Gari, NE tower and then Hills, before falling off the bridge to the lords room at Hills.

Because PvErs already love getting the kitten kicked out of them while they map, we should add other opportunities for people not interesting in PvP to get slaughtered.

Meh, killing players is what it’s all about. You’re telling me it’s more fun to run around an empty map? Wall-to-wall fights are fun. Plus, maybe some of those PvE’ers will actually stick around and get good at WvW.

I’ll say it again, doing things to attract players who don’t normally play WvW into this game mode is a GOOD thing.
