Knocking out bridges can be done with the Scorp’s Wanze. Nothing wrong with that at all. What I’m talking about is full scale defense sieging with sup’s, as if it’s a home bl Garri. Last week I came across a keep with door treb’s, cata’s, and 8+ sup AC’s controlled by some with full AC mastery. That’s way too much pressure for up level stats to handle.

Now, I’m not going to say I’ve never been a part of or led a defense/bag farming session in EotM. The big difference is knowing your limits as a player. You do this by thinking about the experience other players are having across of the entire layer. When you do you’ll realize sure you can defend a little for some laugh’s. Afterwards, you then go with the flow again. Otherwise, if you don’t, you are surely seeking to grieve the majority of players on the layer. In that scenario, you earned any level of negativity reflected back to you. Also any level of bad karma in the real world too.

I know the scorpions can do that but this week I have been green, so i was scouting that corner for siege spots.
About the grief from other and your own players: I actually dont care. Sometimes i like the karma train myself and sometimes i even command. But after a while, you inevitably get wiped by the enemy because those in your team that complain the loudest about disrupting the karma train cant be bothered to pay attention to anything. The ones that are the loudest on map chat and haul abuse at you, if you defend, are the ones that run blindly into a buffed champ and die, cant be bothered to pick up supply and just auto attack the door while they are getting wrecked by npc casters from up top. Sometimes you can explain as much as you want in chat, they simply wont do what you tell them. Thats usually the time when i start waiting in a supply depot until it is drained. I just tell in chat, “drain supply”. If supply is not drained, i wait.
I wait until someone in map chat starts to complain that we should move on. Then i usually say that i will move as soon as the supply is drained and call people out who havent picked any up. At that point, i already dont care about the karma train anymore. If people are resistant to advice and unable to follow simple orders, i am already on my own agenda. I port back to spawn, have everybody supply up (or most of them anyways) and start putting down siege at my favourite spots. After they build it (way faster than me running supplies there on my own), i tag down and start defending.
If i cant help my own zerg to be more aware of what is going on, i will teach the enemy train and i will teach them the hard way.

Do i feel bad about wiping enemy zerglings with an sup ac or knocking them off the edge with a cata or treb? Not in the slightest. After all, they were a big group and i am only 1 person. If I was solo roaming and the enemy train would see me, they would run after me as well and try to kill me. Is that fair, 50 against 1?

That’s the thing, the people posting here aren’t fighting. They’re setting up siege and sitting on superior arrow carts and killing people who have no desire or capability to fight.

No risk = no reward.
Also, some of us do fight. There’s just a limit for how long you can 1vX before other 50 decide to rush you down. And even if it’s zerg vs zerg, you’ll see at least 5 arrow carts by the end of the fight. When zergs so willingly put siege, why roamers of all people should be shy about it? When I see bags – I loot them.

Everyone who wants people to bow to your Ktrain wishes, can go kitten off.

If a team of people want to defend then they will defend and have a kitten good time doing it. EoTM is an extension of WvW, not Queensdale 2.0 with cooler terrain.

I can bring my guild into EoTM to annihilate the Ktrains, We think it’s fun. but it’s TOTALLY spoiling the fun for the other sides. do we care? Nope. We’ll ram our way into a structure just so that we can get to the zerg on the other side. That’s my ultimate dominator title half AFKing at the gate on an uplevel. Think the zerg is gonna protect ya? nope.

for all the “fun we’re spoiling” we get tons of laughter, loot and stories. We always leave one uplevel alive to run away. He gets to tell the story.

I do find some like-minded people. I remember 5 of us stacking up on a couple trebs and several superior ACs

See, here’s the rub for me, you are essentially trolling. When 5 people can derail/take away the fun of the other 150+, you should be discouraged from it. And, trolling in EotM has to be the lowest form of game play in GW2. Especially when it is SO brain dead easy to defend in EotM.

The worst part of trolling in EotM is that the whole layer implodes once defense begins to occur. Most of the map population jumps ship to get away from the trolls. Do to the poorly instituted grouping of worlds, it’s already difficult to find a balanced layer to run around on.

If you want a “fix” for EotM, they should remove siege and only have “special” EotM transform siege like the Scorpions. Expand on those, with more transforms like the Koda, and EotM would be much more fun and prosperous game mode.

How does removing siege from EotM lead to a fun and prosperous game mode?
If entire zergs of upleveled, semi afk players get wiped by 2 arrow carts thats not because of those 2 arrow carts, its because those players are semi afk. If you take away the siege, it becomes even more braindead running in a circle.

I had great fun yesterday setting up a guild cata for each bridge leading up to the Statuary. They were all well hidden but in the open field. If the enemy commander opts to lead his zerg over a bridge that has 1% hp, he shouldnt be surprised, if he has to regroup at spawn.
I done it to the same zerg 3 times in a row on the same bridge. By then, you would have thought that the commander would stop in front of the bridge, send 3 guys over to destroy the cata and then move on. Nope, he went straight over it the 4th time.

Another fun moment was when i already had 2 bridges destroyed, those leading from the statuary to the juncture and towards the observatory. A group of 5-8 gankers was in front of the gate near the altar, preying on our people coming out of it.
When the buff on the statuary ran out, they went over there to cap it. I tried to destroy the last bridge while they ran over it but wasnt fast enough. Fortunately, I had a treb set up to fire cows with supply drain on the statuary champ. With no supply left to repair any of the bridges, they had no way out but to portal back to spawn.

Today i will try to master that approach by trebbing down each bridge to 1% health and wait until an entire zerg comes around to take the statuary. By firing cows at the champ I can drain all their supply and then 1-shot each bridge in front of them.

Also, some objectives spawn their reward chest quite close to a cliff, which is a great target for a cata shot to knock them off.

I have made it a mission to derail the enemy karma trains as often as possible. I will set my group of 10-12 at bridges or blind corners and wreck the karma trains. Hopefully if enough people start doing this eotm will become more PvP oriented. If not no loss for me and my group as the bags just rain down.

I have no problems with people playing the game however they want; if they want to karma train, roam, whatever.

But the attitude by many EotM players is appalling. There will be times where I’ll advertise that a group is taking some point or another. If it was ignored, or people said “we’re karma training, sorry” or whatever, that would be fine.

But no. The answers I get are “if you want to defend, you’re in the wrong map, this map is for karma training, go to WVW.”

Or similar.

Seriously? My suggestion that we try and defend is actually somehow some kind of badwrongfun?

I end up pointing to the others that this map was designed as a kind of wvw, which is a kind of PVP, and NOT PVE/PVD; they are welcome to enjoy the game however they want, but don’t tell me how to play either, or to leave the map for some other.

Fortunately, I do find some like-minded people. I remember 5 of us stacking up on a couple trebs and several superior ACs, and getting some 40+ bags defending and BREAKING attacks on our fort, on more than one occasion in a single match. The loot was pretty decent, but it was also fun.

Badwrongfun, apparently, as out of two commanders there, one cursed us for taking away their chances to flip it later. TOO BAD, I have no obligation to play the way YOU want me to either.

IF this map is really designed to be wvw, and not pvd, then I think a change need to be made. Kind of like with Queen’s Pavilion, take away the chests and drops from the champions, have an end-of-match reward. For example, to encourage people to not just hand over their strategic positions without protest, perhaps have a scaling reward based on how long a point is held – so the longer you hold it, the more points it awards.

This would make it less rewarding to just ignore the fact that your foe is attacking your fortresses.

You could also have a personal point total, so someone cant just hop in and out for 5 minutes and get the same reward as everyone else.

At the end of the match, then a reward is emailed, or sent to the bottom right of your screen, based on your personal total + your realm total.

That way, people would STILL get rewards, but have them think less karma train and more wvwish… which WAS the intention of this map, I believe, plus relieve people who are queued for hours in wvw in the meantime.

Its turned into pve with the occasional pvp once in awhile… pvd…. which again, would be fine if it wasn’t for the fact people are actually CLAIMING this map is for karma trains, and chastising those who disagree.

I’m hoping for a fix.

I think posts like these are the reason they didn’t put a roadmap up like last time, people take the list as if it’s set in stone the moment they read about it. They have already implemented alot of requested features etc, it’s just a matter of time. They aren’t as big as Blizzard or something so they have to push certain things further down the list.

What you are really saying is its ok to meander and go nowhere.

If i tell people where i am going, they may expect me to get there, so if i dont tell them, i can do whatever i want and not be held responsible.

Its true, but its not a productive way of thinking. A productive way of thinking is to make promises and fulfill them.

IMO one of the big problems with the game is that it doesnt seem to have evolved or moved foward much, a lot of that can be tied to not having a roadmap that they wanted to follow, and worked towards filling.

Say it how you want, but they were vague when they talked of precursors, they said sometime this year, like 5 months before the end of the year. They are now like 6 months overdue, thats anywhere from a 9-6 month delay. That is like 1/10th to 1/20th the life of a good mmo.
For a single feature.

What if you bought a house with a problem, the seller said they would fix it before the end of the year, in july. next year, in june its still not fixed, is that acceptable? would you have been happier if the seller told you, i will fix it when i can, no promises?

honestly, its a problem. you can try to look on the bright side, or say they shouldnt make promises, but really thats stupid. When something needs to be done, You should say you will do something, and then you should do it, and when you can’t you should explain to the best of your ability why not, and still work toward doing it.

Its really simple, i flake out sometimes too, but i dont try to pretend im not flaking out, or act as if by not making any promises, i still dont have a responsibility to do something. And hiding behind a lack of a schedule doesnt change that.

Solutions to GvG arena and scene

Just curious- if GvG is your thing, why not make a guild team for team pvp?

lol just proved you don’t know what gvg in gw2 is.

You are quite correct. My original small guild goes to the PvP lobby and plays team arena. In GW1, we GvG’d a LOT. We weren’t high ranked (or ranked at all for that matter), but we had fun. Our best memory is when we got matched up against a Spanish guild ranked #20 on the ladder and took them to overtime with the Guild Lords in the center of our Guild Hall. We lost, but barely, as their Lord was at about 5% health at the end of the match. They PM’d us and gave us a lot of compliments, which I thought was cool. A little while later, we even got some join requests from people that watched in observation mode. I saved my build as “Spanish Overtime”.

Anyway… Care to enlighten me on how it’s done? Number of people on each team, etc. It’d be greatly appreciated.

I’ll try to make this a detailed post. GvG is guild wars 2 is large-scale, its been centrally focused on fights, opposed to perhaps flag and guild lord gw1 stuff. We have a team and we can kill your team with the same numbers thats the idea. How do official GvG’s work? Usually in the OS or the windmill for people who are nostalgic towards the old GvG location. The normal sizes for teams are 15-20, 20 being more popular on EU while 15 is more popular on NA. Smaller scale GvG’s that are 10v10 and 5v5 certainly occur but work much differently in set up.

Setups have evolved over the course of GW2, in the beginning being mainly a melee train with a few ranged, very zergy. Now things are much more organized, especially in higher tier. There are distinct sections of the setup. Melee, ranged, assist. Party setups are also crucial for targeting, boons. I’ll give you a set up for 15’s that is good.
8 melee(4 guard, 4 war), 4 ranged(2 ele/2necro), and 3 assist (2mesmer/thief). The guards would be running a supportive type of build 0/0/30/20/20 shouts for boons, purging flames for condi removal, staff/hammerorgs. Staff for support especially with empower. Wars would be running either shoutheal builds for condi cleanse from their shouts and their warhorns with hammer for CC and damage, sword/horn for movement, immobilize, blasting, and condi cleanse. There is also another war build that has become popular in the last few months which is dps war, these guys have massive dps and usually run GS/axeshield(mace).

Focusing damaging is very important in a gvg, so for melee, that means staying tight together since you have to be to hit the same target. This is also to keep up boons and heals for the group.

The ranged classes necro/ele have their own roles. They both have enormous spike potential but on a high cooldown which means you need to synchronize them at the right time with other cooldowns and make sure they don’t go to waste as they can easily be juked by the enemy. Necros run well builds typically 0/20/0/20/30 while eles run something more with 30 in the last two lines. Eles are the single most important class in the GvG, because they have access to waterfields which help the group recover with massive aoe heals. They also have good damage/CC. Finding a good ele is very hard because it requires a lot of skill. Eles also use staff. Necros usually part up with one of the melee parties for boons/support while eles sit in their own.

Is piken alive? If not, what EU server?

Piken is like a mighty tiger. It spends long periods just laying in the shade, watching as other, more active servers skip around on the plains. Every so often, however, it is roused into fierce action, taking down beasts twice its size through a combination of tenacious nature and savage skill.

Similarly to the tiger, other servers will gang up on piken, knowing that this powerful predator can sometimes be repelled if assailed from all sides. Despite this, piken will not always retreat – instead bitterly lashing out at foes, dealing them terrible wounds despite their numbers and forcing them to win their victory at great cost.

On rare occasions, piken has an off-month and advertises cornflakes or is a man in a tiger costume, entertaining children at the amusement park. During these dark periods, the server enters a low mood and is pushed about by tourist servers who come and take pictures of Piken in its sad state, wondering if the rumours of its savage strength were true.

Still, always, the server bounces back, because even through the dark times, it has a core of older, grim veteran players who, while slow to anger, will come out of their torpid state to resurrect the true soul of the piken wildcat that it may fight again.

We also like it when you stroke us behind the ears.

Anet doesn’t care. I was one of the first along with my homie star player to violate the game mode via gvg (or at least first to get officially called out for it by an anet employee). I’ll give them props for implementing OS but they’ve mostly just ignored wvw. I’m pretty sad to see the fallout of what’s about to happen. It’s been a lot of fun guys. See you around.

Good fights tonight, AGG is an amazing guild to fight against and it’s been great going up against them for a long time. Hopefully EU doesn’t completely shrug off NA anymore, but probably too little too late.

Well they better make sure they either:
1, Give away some legendaries to viewers.
2, Include some PvE news/panel in the show with the PvP tournament.

Because that is the ONLY way people will watch this game for its PvP. This game has a PvP viewership base of about 200-300 people. So unless they bribe people to watch then nobody will care whatsoever.

The game has a competitive pvp community of about 30 people. Even when the game was popular the competitive pvp community (actual regular teams) was still tiny to say the least.

As a roamer, sometimes people just get bored and end up befriending people from other servers (usually when neither can kill the other and it just ends up in a dance-off). It’s only natural that you, a person on the outside looking in, might think your teammate is in trouble. It’s not your job to figure out whether or not two people are having a friendly match.

I was dueling someone yesterday at an enemy garrison and got interrupted by another. However, he was told to stop and ended up just watching. Then more and more of their server came to watch and all of a sudden I’m surrounded by 15 enemy players just sitting and watching our duels. That was pretty fun.

WvW has become so stale i would love to have living story introduced in it.. i mean we might actually get some fights out of it… right?

But seriously.. after the end of thise epic episode of Scarlet her muppets and the blue dragon thing, wouldn’t it be time to actually work on gamemodes that people actually play for enjoyment and not because of a new shiney to grind for?

And if it takes “long” to develop maps and mechanics.. remember that this game has been in development for over 8 years! my 10 yr old nephew can learn to program , code , do some customer research and build 1 map with 1 gamemode in that time. ( just being realistic)

all in all.. get some kitten out there that actually makes the gameBetter and stop spending time to make the game look good, because who wants to play a game that looks good with 10 fps. except if you plan to afk and /dance all day… (what most players do now because it’s the end game. )

I love it. After leveling every class to 80, I started a ranger and now have not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 level 80 rangers because of animations and I just love the class that much. I highly recommend learning the class, but whatever you do DON’T use a longbow and a bear!

Or if you don’t give a kitten what the popular infamy suggests, bear does have it’s place. AoE weakness, AoE condi clears in melee, durable as the day is long?

Bad players are bad. Bears can be pretty awesome though.

But I think you mean: If you’re going to be LB/SB (and then never weapon swap), never move around, can’t dodge, don’t use your utilities, or you have this notion that you should never go melee ever, yeah.

Don’t pick bear. Smokey begs you. He’s tired of the negative attention. It hurts his self-esteem.

Ranger is hands down the most fun profession to play. I’ve played every profession there is and I come no where near enjoying myself as much as I do on Ranger on any other profession.
They are admittedly not the most effective but in the right hands they can do great things. And personally, I’d rather have fun failing than being bored of winning.

Rangers are awesome for open world content because it’s basically autopilot. Your pet holds aggro while you snipe from a distance. Dungeons require Spotter, Frost Spirit, warhorn and greatsword or sword to provide your group with the best support, given you’re using these tools properly of course. PvP, Rangers are the underdog but certainly not “bad.” They are difficult to master but are fierce duelists and if you take the time to practice I’m sure you’ll find how powerful they can be. And in WvW they are the worst. They provide little to no group support, their roles are filled by other professions and they are easily outmatched solo. However, as I’ve said, in the right hands they can be very formidable. I’ve mained a Ranger for a long time and 90% of what I do in WvW is roam and 95% of what I do in GW2 in general is play WvW. After many, many hours getting myself in to trouble, winning or losing on a Ranger is fun any way you slice it so, I highly recommend you give it a shot. It might not be your favorite profession but I can almost guarantee you’ll at least enjoy yourself with it.

As for your questions:
Dungeons; Frost Spirit, Spotter, Healing Spring, greatsword and sword/warhorn (remember to blast finish those healing springs with warhorn!), 6/6/-/-/-, Jungle Stalker and Crimson Moa for pets (fury and might ) and most importantly remember to manage your pets! Use the passive button regularly so they don’t pull unwanted aggro.
WvW ; many viable builds however trapper has stood the test of time. I personally run full Rabid 2/6/6/ shortbow and axe/torch. Condition cleanses are important so it’s a good idea to take Empathetic Bond.
Pets; all pets are good in their own light given you manage them properly. Wolf, Krytan Drakehound, Jaguar and the Jungle Spider are the most appealing pets for their utility. However I have used each pet extensively and have found the majority of them to have use in their own way. I run with two spiders in WvW and love those girls ( : Immobs on their regular attacks make it a lot harder for people to run.

Little wonder that people don’t bother fighting them anymore. Half the classes in the game can just flee on a whim, so what’s the point of even stopping to fight these days? The game is just not balanced around having massive open fields, it’s balanced around fighting in a tiny circle, and it shows.

Before I begin my story I would like to make a few things clear:

a) I’ve been the leader of this small organised group for a year now.
b) I’ve been a commander for far longer than that.
c) We are purely WvW orientated as we enjoy good solid fights.

A year ago our guild was born under a different name on a t3 server, the idea was to build a community that was more than just game friends, a group of people you can rely on in both ingame and reallife and we succeeded, great friendships were forged and we are meeting in reallife soon.

Everything seemed to be going great, we had a lot of pleasure raiding daily in WvW and had great expectations of what was to come. Afterall, they build this great gamemode as foundation, we were convinced we would see even more amazing updates as time would go on.

I alone would spend 20g+ per day to upgrade, siege up and defend towers and keeps all days to increase our PPT since we fought servers that greatly outmanned us for a few months straight. Together with the rest of the spendings within my guild we easily hit 50g+ per day and it was a blast, we had a solid PPT, the fights were good (even though we lost most because they brought triple our numbers) and everything was great.

Then both Season 1 and Edge of the Mists hit us. We were excited about both till we had a chance to play them, we ended up severely disappointed because of a few very simple reasons:

a) The tournament promoted server stacking and coverage entirely.
b) The tournament had no actual reward attached to it so we had to endure hell for 7 weeks for pretty much no reason.
c) Edge of the Mists is a PvE karma train.

After these two disasters hit us, nothing of significanse was announced or released for months. As months passed by we kept transfering around trying to find the fights we desired but to no avail, till this day we didn’t find any new solid experience anywhere.

Although there were some improvements to WvW in the past 1.5 years, nothing actual new was added for the veteran players (I don’t call a new carrot on a stick called ranks content) Where is the new upgrades/siege/traps/structures/maps? For that matter, why is the same meta still active? We use 4 out of 8 classes only as the rest is so useless compared to what these 4 bring to the table. Why hasn’t there been a change in the WvW meta at all?

Season 2 hit us recently and it was another trainwreck, either it was a blowout or getting abused for a week, we just gave up half way and went to mess around in PvE. A guild specifically made and trained for WvW decided to go PvE …

Due to lack of changes in WvW we are losing motivation at an alarming rate, we no longer upgrade or defend (Why would we? Retaking it yields more rewards and doesn’t cost us an arm and a leg after all the gold nerfs). We no longer raid daily as we cannot fight unique and interesting fights anymore, the meta got so stale even all random players picked up on every tactic and the outcome of every fight is now so predictable it’s laughable. There is no more excitement for the future as we don’t hear a word anymore and going by what I read the past weeks, there isn’t even anything worth mentioning being developed right now …

Most of my guild will survive, but not in this game. Most of my members are getting so bored we are searching for a new game and those who do not want to start another MMO anymore after the disappointments here, are quitting entirely. I can understand why they are giving up, they invested hundreds to thousands of hours only to see it being wasted by no noteworthy development whatsoever.

For the love of WvW, do something to salvage this trainwreck.

Yeah, not gonna lie, seeing the GWEN meta persist every single day in WvW for the past year and half has gotten really boring. Very rarely do I step in WvW now and leave thinking, “Wow! [Insert enemy guild/server here] really did something new and creative there to make this game mode more interesting!” It’s just a bunch of warriors and guardians smashing things with hammers while some eles and necros AoE bomb all over the place.

Also, when you can look at the WvW details tab at every reset, see what enemy servers you’re facing, and say, “This server will place 1st, this one 2nd, and this one 3rd” every single week, it pretty much portrays an issue with the competitive aspect of WvW… being that there currently isn’t one. The only competition that really exists in WvW is the GvG scene that exists in some of the higher tiers, which isn’t even Anet driven, but player driven. Other than that, the only interesting competition, in my opinion, is finding open field fights with guilds similar to your own and sort of becoming rivals to some degree. Neither of those things are a result of Anet creating a great game mode. The only thing Anet has lended to the game mode are the things the OP listed, which haven’t accomplished anything positive for WvW.

Also, where is that new CDI we were promised? Did I miss that? Or are they still busy ignoring all the feedback from the first one?

I ignore them. Turning a 1v1 into a 2v1 isn’t my idea of fun, unless the enemy who’s fighting my ally has ganked me (or attempted to) in a fight I was involved in. Then I’ll return the favor.

For example, in our current matchup there’s a roaming ele on HoD running a scepter build who likes to join small fights (particularly ones when we’re already outnumbered) and burst unsuspecting people down from range. So whenever I see this guy in a fight, I always focus on him and CC + eviscerate the crap out of him. Needs a taste of his own medicine, y’know.

Also, I tend to ignore fights where multiple allies are fighting one enemy. Hopefully they can handle themselves.

You can’t put an evade on the sword autoattack or the greatsword suffers. Even if you balanced out the numbers, it would make them basically the same weapon.

On that note, if you’re fighting a group of more than about 7 people, I think the greatsword is always the better choice. Unless you’re zerg-surfing with a longbow, then sword is probably better.

Like I said, they are making us Rangers fight with each other because they couldn’t properly design roles for each weapon leaving us with one weapon that is best for everything (while not being great for anything either). PvEers want the weapon to lose it’s utility because that makes it annoying to use in PvE while PvP/WvWers obviously want to retain the utility because that is what makes it our best PvP/WvW weapon.

As I mentioned in the CDI, we need clear roles for each weapon.

Wait until one of them dies and see if they go for a stomp.
If the enemy is stomping your teammate, kill him.
If your teammate is stomping the enemy, tag him quick!
