Well congratulations to Riverside for successfully making Desolation look like a combination of Vizunah and Vabbi. We lose every fight with even numbers and then we just have no numbers. Not really sure what has happened to our beloved server.

Dunno about you mate but we been rocking this week! Nice to fight RS, not only the numbers but they now got the skill too. If you wanna win you have to do it right!

We’ve been rocking? Have you even been playing WvW? And I don’t mean the two hours of raiding, we all own then, we have held two keeps on whichever map we have been on during our raids. Riverside have beaten us, yes they seem to have a bit more coverage, but that’s only because we got wiped so many times in the morning and afternoon that people just log off to the cursed shore.

Most sane people stopped caring about the tick ages ago. INVI has had a great time this week, riverside and especially Gandara have given us some brilliant fights that we will remember for a long time. This matchup has been the break from the blobs I’ve wanted. from 3 weeks of sfr then blobbadons, those 4 weeks weren’t fun for fights.
Stop making this game your full time job and just try and relax and have a few fun fights without stressing if you can cap that supply camp for the tick..

I have said it before and it clearly bears repeating, our focus is on making improvements to WvW as a game type. When we implement changes it is with that goal in mind. We are aware of the GvG scene and we think it is really impressive, but the effects of any of our changes on GvG as it currently exists are not a priority for us. As such, when changes do come in, like the new map, some of them will be a positive for the GvG crowd and some will not. However, none of the changes we make are intended to stamp out GvG nor are they intended to make GvG more popular. When/if we focus our attention on GvG we will do our utmost to make it a game type that fits the needs of as many people as possible. That time is not now.

How much WvW do you actually play? I’m still waiting.

Most of this post is kitten and the player base recognizes it. Of the changes you’re making to WvW, please articulate the ones that you think are positive to GvG. I think we can figure out the negative ones.

It’s amazing to me that you would imply that GvG doesn’t apply to “as many people as possible”, in a game called Guild Wars. 99.99% of the players running around in WvW are guilded.

Innovation at ArenaNet seems to have left the building sometime ago. The upcoming change to WvW is simply adding a game within a game (much like SAB is a game within the game). You’re lifting sPvP and dropping it square in the middle of an existing game structure. I suspect you’re doing that because you are trying familiarize more people with that stagnant variant in hopes of drawing more of the casual WvWer into it and furthering your E-Sport dreams. If that’s your decision, ok, but don’t try to tell us that you’re making these particular changes to WvW to “improve” it.

This new system will cater to the zergers. There are numerous servers out there that can afford to put 20 mans on each of those 3 required locations and still have a large zerg running around taking towers/keeps and reinforcing a point as it comes under attack. This is going to force lesser populated servers to NOT play WvW, not play more.

And as to your last plea concerning our conflating your decisions in regards to you being supportive of GvG, please don’t worry. We would never do that.

I still don’t see how an unfair stat advantage helps anyone, even ignoring GvG. This game is wholly centered on balance. Every class has access to the same boons, every class has access to the same stats, every weapon set has pros and cons, and no one is inherently worlds stronger than anyone else. That’s why the GvG community exists, because the balance is good enough to have some really amazing fights. The GvG community and the open field community are synonymous. My guild does do GvGs, but not more than once every week or two. We do, however, raid and open field fight every single night, and even when up against superior numbers who have more supply, more siege, and more bodies, we still can win, because this game really does allow for skill based combat to shine through, and that’s what I love about it.

However, the Orb bonus is in direct opposition to that. I know that +50-150 to each stat isn’t a HUGE increase, but it is enough to turn the tides when you’re up against superior numbers. It hides mistakes from enemies, such as bad builds, or bad coordination, and allows them to be on a higher level passively than they would normally have to work for. It gives those giant zergs a potential to not have to try to improve at all, and hurts the smaller groups trying to kill them.

On the opposite side of that, I don’t think more organized groups want a stat bonus, either. I’m sure that VotF and Scnd want to showcase their skills against other groups and not have to wonder if the stat bonus they have gave them that extra advantage in a fight. It adds a layer of unfairness that I’ve felt like this game has done a very good job of avoiding in the past.

The 1/3rd point per stomp alone is a good enough addition to the game, in my opinion, and the stat bonus hurts the open field aspect of the game greatly. I feel like this aspect of the game has been long ignored, probably because the groups that are open field enthusiasts are the same as the GvG community, and have been framing many of their complaints with that in mind. So, I ask you, not as a GvG guild leader, but as an open field guild leader, to review these changes carefully before implementing them. My guild and others really enjoy the group combat aspect of this game, and I feel like with many changes that have been implemented, we are not taken into consideration.

Either way, thanks for at least acknowledging this thread. That was a surprise to many, I’m sure.

Lzay I did not claim we are bigger than the wvw population, Im sayign we are a big part of it and the hardcore part of it. If they wish to push us into the ground then thats their decision but they shouldnt do it the way they do it now as its unprofessional and insanely rude towards their customers.

Everyone can agree that the altar system is a good idea, however everyone also agrees that the stat buff should not be implemented for various reasons.
Anet not listening to their playerbase is a bigger concern than this buff in general.
GvG players are a big victim of this on top of problems it would already cause and that is the point that is made.
Insulting GvG or arguing about how big or skilled it is should not be included in that discussion

And no, not everyone agrees that an orb mechanic should not have a stat buff. The buff has to be worthwhile, stats ensure that. We can argue how much of a stat buff it should be, but there are those who think a stat buff is not a bad thing.

That is part of the problem with the GvG community, they stomp around and act like they represent the entirety of WvW and that unless they get everything on their list of demands then there will be no WvW.

Also, the GvG community has been inviting resentment towards itself with how it treats not only Dev livestreams but discussions counter to their positions in general.

You know me Asudem. I know all about that PPT game and was more hardcore about it than most did on TC but I can tell you that stat buff is in no way a positive addition to the game for WvWers or GvG-ers alike. Areanent with their subsequent changes has moved the game to support larger and larger blobs. WXP, then siege being tradeable and now these stat buffs.

The orb bonuses should not have been stat buffs all also should not spread across the whole wvw population. They should have made it so it had buffs such as quicker upgrades, more supply per dolyak. Things that directly add to defense and PPT rather than stats that help blobs and servers with superior coverage. They made a big mistake here again.

Secondly, GvG is very much an active and large part of WvW; however, I agree that ANET needs to separate GvG from WvW but they actually need to come out and say something on the subject or they are going to see a drastic drop in organized wvw population. This doesnt change the fact that arenanet has been kittenting on normal WvW from their patches in the last 6 or so months as well. Orbageddon sucks for us GvG-ers yeah but its equally bad for WvW-ers and PPT players.

This guy just can’t be the voice for WvW, he’s after an ideology that’s not implemented in the game.

Actually even, GvG guys are trying to break or manipulate a mode to their advantage.

That is exactly what it is. This is a small part of the community with some very vocal members that seem to think their needs are more important than want Anet or the majority wants. I do agree that the upcoming bloodlust buff is bad for everyone, but core problem is the players expecting WvW updates that cater to something that was never supposed to exist.

GvG doesn’t bring anything to WvW other than entertainment for the guilds involved. Having the ability to disable the bloodlust buff would be pointless for a WvWer. There is no reason why I would ever want to intentionally lower my character’s stats for WvW.

Anet made their stance on the guilds’ lack of a role in PvP clear long before release. Why would they want to make changes to encourage GvG matches that can negatively impact WvW?

I can respect what you GvGers have created, but some of you need to understand that what you’re doing is using a game mode for something it is not supposed to be used for. You can’t expect Anet to cater to your community when it brings no benfits to, but can potentially harm, the much larger WvW community.

And who sir, are you, to say what something within a game should and should not be used for? Sure this game type may be called WvW but that doesnt mean there isnt an abundance of non WvW related activites that take place here IE people grabbing Poi, SPs, gathering nodes, doing a fight club, trolling around with a tonic, etc etc. None of these things contribute to your PPT which you seem to have such a massive erection for. I don’t see how having a GvG is manipulating WvW to anyones advantage. It’s merely players adapting a game mode into something that is fun and enjoyable for them. The second you remove the element of fun from a game why would people bother to play it? Also saying that being able to remove the orb buff would be pointless for a WvWer is flawed logic at best. Some people go into WvW to participate in fights against other players (without having to deal with the brokenness of the current sPvP meta), and having an unnecessary stat buff detracts from the challenge of fighting another player. Basically your version of WvW sounds like a bunch of kittenty zerg balls mobbing around taking objectives to further increase their servers PPT. Sounds pretty lame/boring.

You guys enter every thread around yelling and screaming how important you are for the game, now you even call it PvP what you`re doing. It`s funny enough, that it is always the same 10-15 guys telling anybody else how special their GvG community and efforts is. Please don`t tell me what to do, as long as you guys do the same whereever you go.

I don`t have to be part of what I can see is clearly not PvP (maybe an infants version of it). Thanks to free "visitor"s access at the mill, youtube & twitch there`s plenty of opportunity to watch your performance even first person plus audio, hence the player`s mechanics as well – summary: nothing to be proud of, nothing to be called competitive, nothing to see there, really.

Oh man those BUKA guys. They are really the utter most ridiculous trolls. What they call small scale is going like this. One or two of them are running after a squad keeping the people at the end in fight. They do that unless the commander / leader has enough of that nonsense and is turning around wiping them. Then they come back and the whole thing repeats. That´s what they call pvp.

You guys have absolutely no idea what you are talking about when it comes to gvg or large scale battles in an organized environment. So since you are germans, some very wise words for you “Wenn man keine Ahnung hat, einfach mal Fresse halten”.

The simple removal of the stat buff would make this new mechanic really bring the 2 communities together.
Having the new orb mechanic award PPT for kills was actually a suggestion I made to Devon a while ago.
Say you’re doing a 15v15 or a 20v20 in a map. Usually a round happens every 10-15 mins.
Getting 10 stomps during those 15 mins of GvG is something totally attainable.
So now, if your guild is winning a GvG while having the buff x1, it’s basically the same as holding 1 tower. Having the buff x3, it’s like holding SM. The entire “GvGers should be gone to open up room for people that want PPT” argument falls to pieces.
Good guilds would start getting encouraged by the server to do GvGs, since that would give a really good point boost to them.

A lower poped server with really good guilds can recover some of the PPT difference by having their main guilds GvG every night against the overpopulated one.

But, not of this can happen if the stat buff comes in a kills this part of the community

Why wouldn`t I be voicing my opinon, these are the WvW forums afaik. That`s my observations after watching countless GvG`s and after having played most of these so called tiptop GvGers myself in smallscale environment, where individual player skills actually matter…. it`s most of the time just pathetic what these guys are able to deliver.

Get PVT, some guards, warris, wellomancers, sprinkle in an ele and a mesmer and you`re good to go for the cyclejerk called GvG. Sadly, there is not much to have a clue about in GvG, that`s the point.

Your guild and BuLL, Tellerion, are actually the only notable exceptions, there are some VcY members, that indeed know how to play. That doesn`t make GvG any more challenging, tho. It`s Baby-PvP for people who are not able to master their classes properly. Yeah, and I`ve met them all on the field, at least the EU ones.

Your very much entitled to share your opinion on the matter, however, my point was that the statements you seem to be making differs a lot from the actual reality of things. You even said it yourself that the experience you have is based on having seen some videos and having fought some of these “tiptop GvG’ers” in a small scaled setting. Anyone with basic knowledge about WvW/GvG knows that these guys will be running builds/specs more suited for larger field fights, which makes them vulnerable for people that’s purely built into duels/smaller scaled combat. Small scaled combat differs from larger scale, just because you favor one over the other doesn’t give you the right to badmouth the other, as your experience/knowledge is obviously very much lacking, I for example don’t go about commenting on living story when I know kittenall about the subject.

I’m not by this implying that larger scale fights require the most of each individual, as it’s obviously more room for individuals failing when there’s more people involved, that point we can agree on. But to move fluently as a big group does require practice and a certain degree of skill, thinking otherwise is plain stupid and ignorant.

Just ignore the BUKA guy. He is one of the many self-appointed PvP pro’s who feel superior when they hunt upscaled/player with zerg builds from the tail of a zerg while they are using cookie cutter builds (stunlock warriors/prismatic understanding mesmer/Perplexity engis/ etc.).

b2t it’s like a smash in the face for the…. well… let’s call it “the community which is organizing ingame wvw events”.
We have built up a very strong, pretty big and growing community with a huge potencial. We created on our own new incentives and long term goals for specific guilds which Anet haven’t been able to do for us for like a year.

I would be careful with the statement that we will be losing all the guilds from
“the community which is organizing ingame wvw events” up to now.
I’m sure the “ingame wvw events” will continue because of the hell of a fun.
But they will never be as competetive as they use to be because there will be always a bad aftertaste when you see you won with a +50/100/150 all stat buff. Not just because of the buff but well…it’s actually a combat changing advantage.

Lastly, I would like to personally thank MartyPartys and Ogre who get this all going.
Let’s see how it developes.

Yes they do this and there’s nothing for me to get over as this has happened to me countless times but this is the first time I’ve seen it so rife from one server. I’m not looking to change the attitude of some player’s of a server but if you run a guild with members that take part in this type of behaviour not only does it reflect bad on a server I can only assume that the player is trash and their guild is trash.

When I see a fellow Deso-player doing corpse-jumping or dancing i will immediately say that it is stupid and childish. If they start to whine and continue their idiocy, I will just report them.

I challenge all my server-mates to deal with this kind of behavior harshly. If we see consistent trolling like this from a single guild, they may lose access to our community TS.

After a good fight it really is not so hard to type /bow or /salute

Getting the ‘zerk or go home’ vibe here. If the content you play only has room for one build, perhaps you’ll manage to scrape by against those oh-so-dangerous mobs you want the 5% gain to min-max against. (If this isn’t the case forgive the condescending tone.)

If you WvW and have enough classes at your disposal to put any weapon to good use, I can’t imagine you can’t cobble together something that fills a useful role outside of a crit build.

If you refuse to play anything other than direct damage dps, I suppose other stat combos really are useless to you, but that’s not a failing of game design.

Consider an ascended drop outside your normal playstyle as encouragement to branch out a bit.

He’s somewhat calling you a hypocrite, which I’m starting to agree with. You state that warrior’s effortless regen from Healing Signet is fine because poison is a counter, yet state that it’s not (enough of) a counter for Troll Unguent when the only efficient condition removal a ranger has to deal with it kills the pet in the process, which you failed multiple times to acknowledge in your calculations.

As I said before, others have driven the topic to that point. Argue with them if you want I’m arguing about the insane Hp/S Troll Unguent and Spirit of Nature bring.

Again, the “insane” Hp/S you speak of is only specific to a few select builds which ultimately end up giving the ranger next to nothing in terms of dps. Besides running an apothecary set for condition/regen, you’re throwing your eggs in the wrong basket. If you factor our pets damage (which will miss on moving targets, you don’t even have to dodge or have swiftness, just kite it) we’re doing very little to kill you. if you fight a ranger and don’t know how to move while attacking, L2P first and then complain. If you have not played a ranger yet, create one, take him in to sPvP and see first hand how much this “insane” regen is helping you. Once you do that, post some pictures or videos of “your” gameplay and teach the rest of us “rangers” how to effectively play our rangers. You “seem” to know a lot about our class mechanics, so please enlighten us with “your” personal experience.
