Dear.
Mother.
Of.
God.
NO.
I can guarantee there will be two immediate problems rising from going F2P (because this is exactly what happens to other games that go F2P):
- Massive increase in gold spam because gold sellers don’t need to buy/steal accounts anymore.
- People exploiting multiple accounts to get around restrictions (imagine half the people at world bosses being alt accounts AFKing to get the daily chest, or your entire team in PvP being full of AFK characters because two guys on the enemy team decided they wanted easy wins).
F2P would be ruinous for GW2, never mention it again.
The game has no monthly subscription. Is a one off purchase. People choose to spend any extra money through the gem store.
Why make it free to play?
Joke thread or troll thread…or both?
I can’t tell…
must be my lenses wearing out, all I read is “I want to gank people with worse stats”. And “alpha male”, lol, yeah, the ladies are already swooning for those mad gaming skillz.
I’m okay with outfits… If we can have more where removing hands, shoulders and head pieces are an option. I would like this set a lot more without the broadened shoulders which look especially awkward on my Norn ): Still, it’s a nice set and my Necromancer is rocking it.
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
WTB those black wings as a seperate backpiece (since they werent included on the costume to begin with)
If Anet one day put a instant level 80 item on the gem store for 1000 gems. Would you throw your copy of GW2 out of the window or would you go ’that’s cool, saves me a lot of time.’?
I’d buy one for each of my non-level 80 characters that day…
…unless an expansion pack had not been released yet.
I’d be a bit upset for a while, but in the end I wouldn’t really care.
I’d see it as an admission that they’ve taken a great game and messed it up so bad that most people simply don’t want to play most of it. Hardly the “improving as we go” that an MMO is supposed to do.
It’s what I thought when EQ (it was EQ, right?) made servers where you started out at a higher level. It speaks of a gross failure to make the entire game fun.
Well, just like any game, it is fun the first time you do it, but doing it for the 10 th time? Not so fun and you just want to get it over with.
As long as this item was available only after having maxed out a minimum of say…3 toons to 80, I would be okay with it.
I just don’t want it available for a rookie with a credit card and starts playing this game as a f2p.
I would say that’s cool.
And do nothing. Because 1000 gems would be too expensive for me not to level a character myself.
Also people skipping to 80 would not bother me. Just so long as they don’t join my dungeons in level 0 white items. Oh wait… people do that anyway.
I’d buy it 3 times to get the 3 classes I don’t have at level 80 there. Cheaper and less painful than craft leveling, or swapping at the end of a dungeon. Every aspect of the game I actually like to play, level either doesn’t matter at all (sPvP), or you better be level 80 in good gear (Dungeons, Fractals, and WvW roaming); the entire rest of the game is a giant time sink, which was fun the first few times, but isn’t something I ever want to experience yet again because the fun value per time is too low, and there is no more novelty value in it.
Please also sell a personal story skip for another 1000 gems. Pick random options. Don’t even give us any rewards. I don’t care. I’ll buy that too, please. Or just let me get rid of the annoying green text otherwise, and make the ability to enter Arah and other dungeons account based not character based. Thanks.

To maximize your odds of running into other RP players more often, you’ll want to make sure you’re on the same world (generally TC and Piken are viewed as the RP worlds), and in guilds with other RP members also on that same world. For example, everyone from TC currently will be set to high priority to sort together, same thing goes with people who are all a part of the same guild (so guild up RP folks!)
We’ll continue to monitor, adapt and update the system as we go forward as well, for now I’d suggest seeing how it works once we enable the mega server system across all maps and then giving comments and feedback when you see it in action!
(edited to add Piken!)

Is anything going to be done to accommodate RP communities with this new Megaserver system? Most RPers have already migrated to a select few servers (Tarnished Coast for example). Will these people be potentially separated into different versions of their cities? Most RP groups aren’t all going to be in the same guild, and interacting with different guilds across the server is a crucial part of maintaining a stable RP community. So relying on the “players in the same guild” to match RPers together is sort of out. I assume right now that the only thing that’ll potentially keep us together is whatever weight you apply to people from the same server. Even still, I foresee a lot of RP guilds getting split up and not being able to interact with each other. That might kill the RP community in GW2 altogether, even if it’s not a common occurance.
Not to mention that the cities will now be filled with tons of new non-RPers, which will surely break a lot of immersion and clutter common spots for player interaction. I understand this is a necessary part of the update and I can deal with a new influx of non-RPers (who knows, it may even introduce new people to the concept). But if those players somehow take priority over established RPers, I feel like the community would die before we even get the chance to convert new people.
So… has there been any thought as to how you’d support the RP community with this new system? Is there maybe like… a checkbox we can have on our character select or in-game to say that this is an RP character? Then people with that option selected will have much higher priority for getting grouped in the same city as other RP players? I honestly doubt any considerations were being made here, as ArenaNet was probably more focused on just getting players together in general. But wouldn’t something like that be a fairly simple solution to the problem?
Ugly without wings. Sad that the only success u guys have is by porting content from your previous game…u have to admit that. Shows the level of design we get in the newer version of the game lol.
Even so…u missed the wings it looks ugly as hell without them. Will talk after the skin gets it’s wings back.
Them putting skins from GW1 has been asked time and time again, even before the game was released or even in Beta.
It’s not so much about the level of design in GW2, but the level of design in GW1.
Can I buy the wings as my back piece.. I dont even need them to be dye-able…this outfit needs the wings and not the funny things on my shoulders.
Wings as a separate Back Piece please? Simply because they would look divine on so many looks, and wit ha few adjustments they could fit like the other wing back pieces we have? Please please please, Pretty please?

You’ve been asking for it since beta? But the set was available after launch, what happened?
it was in the pvp locker and we asked for it back then from what I recall. I may even have images I made of it back then on my HD somewhere. Outfit is worn by Alastia Crow in the personal story for one of the 3 orders i think.
Your two plus years of cries to put back in a completed armor set that was available in beta from karma vendors falls on deaf ears.
If it had been available from karma vendors, I and others would have bought it in beta. I don’t recall anyone posting anything about it being on karma vendors in beta at all.
Why is the style section of the Black Lion a vertical listing with large icons rather than a grid, or a listing like in the trade post or merchant? Clicking one brings up the preview regardless, to me it seems like the Gem Store has an unnecessarilly bloated interface.
1. My best assumption would be time crunch. Let’s make these items armor skins, lets make these items outfits, but we’re running out of time so let’s just make all of this stuff tonics. The fact they offered gem refunds in the post introducing this change tells me they knew it wasn’t going to be very popular.
2/3. Underwater Combat is, I assume, basically non-existent for Anet right now. The biggest attention it’s ever gotten was the rare breathers from Teq, and a few months after that Raid on the Capricorn was ripped out of PvP, and we continue to not get water weapon skins from newly introduced sets. I have a feeling if they could, Underwater Combat would have been cut from the game like Town Clothes.
4. I’m thinking the the fact that the crafted backpacks aren’t level 80 is to not undervalue the ones you make at 80, and the stat boosts are to counter that in some way. Almost all of the level 80 back pieces are ascended, so perhaps they’re trying to make it not seem silly you need a stack of T6 mats to make most of ’em.
5. My guess is that outfits work essentially as temporary armor skins. They don’t go over your armor, they ARE your armor. So hiding your normal helmet will also hide your outfit helmet because they’re the same thing. Why they didn’t go a step farther and just, I dunno, make ’em all armor pieces, I dunno. Maybe linked to the time crunch mentioned above.
6. Not only Tribal, but I think 3 full armor sets are essentially locked for a lot of players who didn’t get them before the first feature patch. I managed to make all of them myself, but it’s certainly not a good point that they removed 3 armor sets and have yet to even address it.
7. No place to put them, maybe? Perhaps a UI person didn’t want to risk messing up the grids for a few silly mats.
8. The original intention was to make silk worth more, since it was so bloody common. I remember myself just throwing it out every time I got some. But you know what else I also do that with? Leather. Why they thought it needed to drive silk up but not leather confounds me to no end. The fact that Damask (which is so needed by all armor professions) is what, 20 gold, and Elonian leather is like 2 is a little silly and incredibly disproportionate. But I don’t expect them to back peddle on this anytime soon, they think it’s wonderful a T5 mat is more expensive than it’s T6 counterpart.
And to add a possible 9: Why aren’t WvW season tickets in the wallet? They’re obviously here to stay, why not put them in the wallet? Is someone so fascinated by the 4×4 grid that they wouldn’t dream of messing it up or something?

I was ready to come and tell someone off for whining. But all of these are actually completely reasonable. +1 for rational requests/questions.
It does suck that necromancers can’t fulfill the interrupt required for the encounter’s mechanics, but allowing Fear to work just opens a whole new can of worms for the fight.
If only fear worked on it.
Have you seen how fast it runs? Using Fear on it would practically be griefing the encounter, any Fear that lasts for more than a second would chase it out of agro range and force a reset.

“Pieces of this set were unlocked through the previous structured PvP reward system. Players cannot currently obtain it.”
Please, can we have this for PvE? Outfit? Gem Store? Something?
Been asking for this since beta….still asking. You have my vote.
Is anyone else finding their outfit dye schemes keep disappearing after not wearing one for a while and/or swapping to another? This has happened to me a few times now on different characters. I thought once u choose a dye scheme for an outfit it is saved like on armor. Or did i get that wrong?
Why are past complete meta achievement rewards not automatically unlocked? I no longer have the Toad backpeice but the game has record of me earning it. Why is it not unlocked?
Bring back Stalwart and Tribal armors
Seconded.
Jade Quarry Forever.
I am just posting to add my disappointment… Town clothes are unmixable and undyable?!?!?!?!!?!? That sucks really bad.
One of the great joys my wife has in GW2 are her mixed town clothes that she has bought from the gem store (e.g. shorts from one set combined with shirt from another set). And of course the ability to dye them… She likes them so much she changes into her town clothes any time she is not in combat waiting for the next fight in dungeons, PvE, guild events, etc.
Super bummed about this. Hope Anet will consider modifying this new town clothes mechanic.
