I think it would be cool. Heck, you can have partners in Fable and a few other games, why not GW2?

I could see Marjory and Kasmeer tying the knot, as well as Logan Thackeray and Queen Jennah

I think this should be applicable to us the players only being able to marry NPC’s though, because there’d be a whole lot of complaints if it were player on player marriage.

Block & Filter System Improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

Being as I can’t post in the suggestions forum (as it’s only for archived threads), I suppose this is the only appropriate place to put this.

I made a thread a while back about the ignore system, and, in particular, how homophobic slurs in game were not being dealt with very well (and still aren’t to be honest). I would like Anet to do something about this because it’s getting out of hand.

So I currently have my filter on maximum settings, and for the most part, usually slurs are censored, however, not all of them are blocked, as you can see in the screenshots below.

Why is this? It’s on MAXIMUM settings. I should not be seeing any of this. Would Anet consider a way to allow us, the players, to add and remove words to a list of blocked/censored words? Because I really don’t want to see this kind of stuff while I’m gaming – I already hear/see 1-3 homophobic slurs on a daily basis in real life, and I don’t want to see or hear it while playing GW2 either.

Furthermore, a player was being quite rude and I pointed out the fact that he probably meant ‘wrong’ instead of using the word he did (see 3rd screenshot), but no, he meant it in the derogatory way – he even admitted it. I didn’t reply to his insult, and instead, tried blocking said player, but his messages still showed up in map and team chat afterwards. How am I supposed to ignore this when blocking them, well, still doesn’t block them?

Why is this?

I would like to point out a good suggestion by StinVec.3621 from my old thread on homophobia and the ignore system. I think this would be a great way to deal with people you don’t necessarily want to hear from, and also help improve the block system, which, quite frankly, could definitely do with an improvement.

StinVec.3621:
Ignoring/Blocking a person should prevent…
• …this person’s chat comments from being visible to you in all chat forms:
o Guild
o Say
o Local
o Map
o Yell
o Shout
o Party
o Squad
o Team
o Tell
o Whisper
• …this person’s emotes from being displayed to you in the chat box.
o Including (especially?) blocking custom emotes (/emote blahblahblah) as blocked players currently use that as means around the block feature (exploiting).
• …this person’s ability to see or join your LFG through the LFG Tool.
• …this person from being able to join your party.
o Could even have a warning message pointing out to you that “The person attempting to join your party is currently blocked” and then offer a “Permit this person to temporarily join the party anyway” option.
Block should actually block the person and restrict all possible contact with this person until the block is removed. Or have it as an option to where you can select to only block chat related activities made by this player, or choose the full block that prevents all possible contact (LFG, etc).

To add onto this suggestion, it would be awesome if Anet could introduce an interface for the filter, where you can add and remove words that you would like to be censored – especially for any spellings of a particular word that somehow bypasses it normally.

As Zamalek.2154 said in the old thread…

Why not add a user-editable words list to the game?

Leave the power in our hands to censor what we don’t like to see

I think this is a brilliant idea, because it’s not just homophobic slurs that players have to deal with on a daily basis, there are plenty more words that I’m sure bypass the system – be it racist/sexist etc.

Will there be any changes to the block & filter system? An Arenanet staff member said they would be looking into this due to all the feedback and suggestions from the old thread, but nothing has changed. Any word on this?

Many thanks

P.S. the name ‘Ms Gaga’ in the 3rd screenshot isn’t actually my character’s real name he’s referring to, hence why I didn’t blur it out.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

I’d like to have the ability to keep the special effects/animations of a weapon, but be able to change the skin itself. For example, if you have the bifrost legendary, but hate the skin, you could change the skin, but keep the rainbow aura and all the rainbow spell animations.

Anet could perhaps put it in as a gemstore item called ‘Animation Transmutation Stone’ or something. You will then get some interface pop up and you choose which animations to keep, and which skin you want on your weapon, and it will combine the best of both worlds.

Glorious Amor? But what about Tribal Armor?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zaoda.1653

I just want Anet to give WvW/EOTM some new armor skins :-( similar to how dungeons get unique skins. Sure we have some skins, but they don’t cost many badges and they’re really fugly.

And yes I too want the tribal armor. It looks very ‘ritualist’ in nature.

Good riddance to that! The only people who are going to cry over this are those that were doing it. Yes I’m talking to you warriors. It never should have worked on NPC’s in the first place. After all, other revive skills from other professions/classes could never revive lords and all that, what makes warriors so overpoweringly special?

Good change. Finally fixed.

Guild Wars 2 - is the name still suitable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zaoda.1653

I think it should be called Jump Wars 2. It seems I’m always getting face planted against a small ditch/uneven surface in WvW and have to press the space bar every few seconds.

Not only this, but we don’t really have any unique Guild feature (like Guild Vs. Guild), so I still don’t understand where ‘guild wars’ comes into it.

GW1 at least had guild halls, where we could customise them and add bank npc’s and stuff – why doesn’t GW2 have this? It would be epic to have truly unique guilds that you could customise – with themes/colors/npc’s/statues/add-ons etc.

I know that if I had my own personal guild hall, I’d probably want a statue of the skimpy Lord Faren :-P and a bank npc, a trading npc, a sky with a permanent rainbow in it (or maybe double rainbow?) and a few other things. It would be SO cool. But sadly it’s just a dream that will probably never become a reality :-(

Legendary effects not so... Legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

Is it just me or does anyone else think some of the special effects of legendary weapons could be slightly improved?

For example, The Bifrost’s rainbow cloud-like spell to me isn’t very large and isn’t very noticeable amongst all the other spells – I think it could be a bit bigger in my opinion.

And for the Guardian staff #1 skill, surely the normal ‘wave’ spell could be replaced with a ‘rainbow wave’ spell – to suit The Bifrost’s rainbow theme. I think it would be cool to send out waves of magnificent colors!

And why not change the meteor spell for elementalists to a whole bunch of rainbow meteors? Of all the fire spells, that skill would make the most sense to change.

In fact, wouldn’t it make the most sense to have EVERY spell changed when wielding a legendary weapon? I’ve never understood how it can only effect a few spells – these things are legendary after all… Why not produce a rainbow trail when using the fiery retreat #4 fire skill too? I really don’t understand…

I’m sure there are other legendary weapons with special effects that could be improved on, so feel free to post your ideas too.

Legendary effects not so... Legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

I think at the very least Anet should allow us to move the special effects over to another skin.

Like, be able to use the chaos staff skin, but with bifrost’s rainbow animations. I understand there’d be people that want nothing changed (and that’s fine – Anet should cater to those who want nothing changed too), or think I’m being too demanding, but really, it’s legendary weapons people – they deserve to be epic.

I don’t get why others think it’s ok for some skills to not have any effects whatsoever, while others get great effects.

I think legendaries in general need a makeover.

They need to have special effects on every skill, allow us to hide the effects if we want, allow us to transfer the special effects over to another skin (Anet could introduce some new transmutation stone that transfers the special effects over, and perhaps one that removes them?), and also give us the ability to unlock sigils on our legendaries so that, once unlocked, they can be switched out at any time – just like stats.

Anyway just my two cents

Legendaries don't have Givers stats!? WTF?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

Today I decided to go for a fear based necro build, and so I was looking up stats and discovered the Givers staff gave a 20% condition duration stat. I thought, no problem, I have the bifrost. I was making my necro all epic looking and transmuted a bunch of his skins, including my bifrost, all ready for his complete makeover.

So I go to select the stats of my bifrost and discover there’s no Givers stats!?!? WTF? This must be a bug because I thought legendaries were supposed to have all ‘current’ stats available – are they not?

I’m having to use an exotic version for now, but can Anet please fix this? Legendaries are supposed to have ALL available stats.

Thanks

Radiant and Hellfire Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

anet will sooner or later have to release new content, and ap with it that will reach the 50k ap points

I can understand what you’re saying because yes there will be a point in time where 50k AP is do-able for the average player, but here’s the thing… at the moment I don’t think (someone correct me if I’m wrong) even 1 person has the radiant/hellfire chest or legs.

And furthermore, now with Anet constantly taking a month off here and there (they did it a short time ago, and now we’re seeing it happen again from mid September to early November), I highly doubt it’ll be a short time before even a small amount of players are able to wear the full hellfire/radiant set, let alone a lot of people.

The whole hellfire/radiant AP system needs a redo.

New Tempest Skins

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Zaoda.1653

Zaoda.1653

I only bought the staff skin (and even then I had to sell one of my precious skins in my bank I had been keeping for a long time, for investment purposes) because I don’t want to get myself too carried away being as there’s nothing that really matches all these black lion weapons. There’s no black lion armor skins, and that’s what kind of ticks me off.

I guess the wind catcher skin goes nice with these Tempest skins, but that’s about it. And I would buy more skins, but Anet keeps coming out with more and more of them with no new ways of getting the money to afford them in the first place!

What happened to the living stories where you all zerg together and get a whole bunch of loot? Sure it wasn’t very ‘skilful’ by spamming #1 a lot on your skillbar while moving, but at least it was fun being rewarded.

Enough money so that you can afford SOME of the umpteen hundreds of skins that seem to keep pouring out of the gemstore these days. But nowadays the average joe blog can only buy 1 of these new skins because there’s no new content to work at and be rewarded for so you can buy more.

We need more opportunities to make money so we can buy more skins. I mean, what if you need that tempest scepter, focus, staff and greatsword skin for your Mesmer? Say goodbye to 320 gold – that’s IF you have enough money for all 4 skins (based on the assumption that the average ‘new’ black lion weapon is 80g).

It’s getting ridiculous and we need more money making opportunities if you want us players to buy more skins (cause unlike the few rich players in GW2 that seem to have every legendary and item in the game, not everyone can afford a full set of new black lion weapon skins, let alone 4 of them that you just HAVE to get).

tl;dr

1) It’s all very nice but please give us armor to match all the black lion weapon skins

AND

2) Give us more opportunities/methods to make enough money to buy these skins, rather than just spewing out hundreds of gemstore items and somehow expecting us to pull money out of thin air to buy them all.

We’ve had far too many money SINKS. We now need some money GAINS.

This set is ridiculous and I will not be buying it.
For one, it completely removes charr tails. WHY? Even the horrendous clipping issues these outfits are notorious for were better then completely removing the tail.
Furthermore, I am sick and tired of “sex” gear being exclusively tied to female characters. No, I do not want my female character to look like a prostitute. No, I do not appreciate the inherent degradation and disrespect towards women that it shows, to only offer objectifying gear for female characters, and not for male characters.
Definitely not impressed.

Did you even look at the male version or did you just glance at the female one and start typing?

A bare-chested male is not the equivalent of a bare-chested, or even partially bare-chested, female.
The female breasts are sexualized to a degree that the male chest is not. A more likely male equivalent to this would be his junk almost sticking out. Which it is not.

Really? Maybe not to the same extent but I guarantee a handsome bare chested man is indeed sexualized. (If he wasn’t being sexualized for the female gaze, he would be covered up).

We need more skimply male outfits in my opinion. I once did a comparison of the female:male ratio of skimpy outfits, and there were a lot more skimpy female outfits (noticeably the chest region) compared to male. Not fair tbh.

For starters, Anet could give us the option to cut off those horribly long sleeves on the feathered top us men wear.

ArenaNet's attitude

killcannon.2576

Unless individual players each bought multiple copies of GW2, there has been at the very least 3 million players at one time or another taking into account sales from the China release. Whether or not there were ever 3 million active players concurrently is another question.

It would seem there would also have to be some sort of exit survey for players who had left the game, otherwise they would have no information on why they left the game in order to craft a NPE to better retain players who had left. Unless they are employing psychics…which could be entirely possible I suppose. It is also likely they gleaned some information from the forums from exit posts (which some forum posters dislike for some reason). I would also guess they had play testers who they asked questions of and who may have filled out surveys. It’s just easier to quantify results by using some form of standardized feedback.

There is no evidence of a quantifiable amount of players that were asked, or who left because of an unpleasant early experience, that was released by Anet. Just that player retention was not where they wanted it to be. An assumption would be that new player retention was lower than veteran player attrition, which would cause a shrinking player base. To be fair, it is easier to rework current systems with available resources than to add swathes of new content for veteran players and that it is more profitable to attract new players than to retain veteran players… although I am fairly certain they would like to do both. Or not, who knows.

That however doesn’t take away the fact that they destroyed something working. And while you say you want it removed rather than improved later on, I don’t buy into destroying something you can’t fix immediately.
.

^
And that is the underlying point which I find important and relevant.

If you are going to take a working, functional system or element out of the game, some assurance should be made that it will be replaced with something as equally functional, or just don’t do it! Don’t be in a rush push it to the ’live" server.

Rushing such things out hurts the game and appears to have a particularly bad track record when it comes to community acceptance.

  • Ascended Gear…has never been finished or rounded out, it was pushed out two months after game release.
  • Fractals: this dungeon treadmill was pushed out and then later “rethought”, resulting in a Fractal Reset which hit some players rather hard.
  • Traits Acquisition Changes in April 2014: What many players were hoping to be a new line of Elite Traits that could be hunted in various challenges throughout the game world became a complete hijacking of the Core Traits into a messy, out of sync bizarre system we currently have.
  • NPE: Talk about using a sledge hammer to kill a fly! A total and clunky revision of the entire level progression experience of the game, the one area which from DAY ONE was vaunted as the game’s strong suit by players and reviewers alike.

So what was the issue that Anet wanted to fix by no longer making instances owned by a player? Everyone being kicked if the owner disconnects or leaves? Which is is something that could have been fixed without making dungeon instances ownerless. There could have been a fallback system where ownership of an instance falls to the second person who joined the party if the instance owner leaves the party or gets disconnected.
So was there something else they were trying to fix?

The person that initiated the ‘party’ should be immune to being kicked, able to kick others non-unanimous and UNABLE to leave the ‘party’ until after a ‘right-click name/assign as party leader’ is executed (disconnects will not result in everyone being booted and next name gets the responsibility by default)…

Those that joined aforementioned party should be able to ‘right-click name/request to be kicked’ all members of said party (including the ‘initiator’) and wait for how said ‘initiator’ will respond and/or simply take the names of ‘those to be blocked/avoided’ and leave at their discretion…
