I have never been a fan of shields in any game, so when I feel like I have to equip them, I tend to favor the less traditional ones (SAB and Lovestruck are my faves). For me, Quaggan Shield is absolutely perfect.
Now I have to decide if making a legendary for a weapon that I only use on two alts is worth the time and effort.
@Felahr: You are being ridiculously overdramatic. Just because you find the shield’s theme to be silly doesn’t mean that it’s “ruining” the idea of legendaries. If you think a collection of weapons that includes a glorified pop gun, a rainbow unicorn spewing toy bow, and an actual disco ball hasn’t already shown its hand as being for a wide range of players, then you haven’t been paying very much attention.
While I am not going to be over-dramatic about it, I do wonder sometimes about Anet’s perspective on Legendaries. On one hand, they are probably the most difficult things to get in-game and that is why they are called “Legendary”, but on the other hand the goofy ones are not very “Legendary” in a Fantasy way.
I don’t mind the introduction of really silly things in the game (vs the story), but I think what Felahr might be objecting to is Anet taking a group of incredibly rare and hard to get items and trivializing some of them in this way. Some of us really like the story and want our characters to be Heroic. Now a percentage of these already super-rare weapons are not a choice for us.
I think that goofy things should be exclusively Festival, Gemstore, or BL ticket items, not something a character actively pursues in the game world. I can’t see “The Commander” taking time away from saving the world in order to obtain a toy “quaggan in a bowl”.
Not every Commander takes themselves quite so seriously
You weren’t made Commander because of how seriously you took yourself, but to save the world…
“Excuse me, I know there are dragons to kill but I’m going to spend a lot of time and money to get a Quaggen in a Bowl toy for myself.”
As I said, I don’t have a problem with this type of item just that it is a Legendary Weapon.
Pity I main an asura
I was thinking that. My character most likely to use this is an asura and I’m worried it might be too small to appreciate on her.

You’re absolutely right that it’s silly. But to me that makes it even more special. It is the single most absurdly over the top weapon I have ever seen in any game I’ve ever played, or heard of. That’s pretty legendary to my mind.
As I said, I am speaking of Heroic Fantasy which is what GW2 is based in. A game that supposedly values Story and puts your character in charge of an army to save the world. Since you don’t have a problem mixing a quest for an absurdly silly item with your Heroic Fantasy, you aren’t really arguing with me and my point still stands.
From one perspective, this could be considered one of the darkest and most evil of the legendary weapons…. The shield could be being powered by that baby quaggan. Quaggan children are a largely untapped renewable resource. Add to that you’re simultaneously using a baby quaggan as protection vs attacks…. yeah, that’s way more evil than a staff that mind-controls flocks of birds.

whats next, a legendary GS thats just 5 skritt in a trench coat?
This is the single greatest idea for a weapon ever. It must become a reality!
I would do anything to get such a GS.

Oh Dwayna no! The new shield skill animations!!! How have we forgot?! The chronomancer shield wave will most likely transform into a water wave with a quaggan surfing it, the shield bubbles will have ghostly quaggans protecting you! Its too much to think of!
Under the collections system, I’d have gone for this regardless of whether I’d use the skin. There would have a lot of potential for some fun collections and exploring more Quaggan lore.
As it is, I’ll skip it entirely.
I’ll bet some poor dev had a nice outline for the story all set before the scrapped the Collections for Legendaries.
Yeah. Makes me a little sad when I think we won’t get to see all the fun stories tied to the new legendaries (and sad for the person(s) who created them), but I can also completely understand why they have decided to not go that route now.

I can only imagine other ppl that see you with the shield are like….

Hmm isn’t using a quaggan as a shield considered abuse?
Not if its consensual.

While I really like the design as something funny and original, I have to agree that it would be better as part of a BL set.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

It was only a matter of time before Quaggans infiltrated weapon skins, considering they’ve gotten into basically every other part of the game already. I’ve never gotten the appeal of the doofy looking whale things, but apparently I’m in a minority there.
I’m quite frankly surprised it isn’t an entire weapon set and not just a single skin. And also surprised its a shield and not some sort of shooting weapon that would be able to shoot dozens of quaggan shaped projectiles. Because more quaggans.
The quaggan itself is animated, since its in a different position in each pic. Either that or it just changes positions when stowed or wielded, I guess. I definitely expect them to make it a “live” quaggan and probably make noises, since the way they speak is half the reason people seem to love them.
I hate it. its ugly and it looks doofy. whats next, a legendary GS thats just 5 skritt in a trench coat? why not a hammer thats a big ogre that you swing around by his topknot. oh wait, lets make a kittening rifle with a dredge face on the butt, and you have to poke it in the eye sockets to fire the gun
this is the single stupidest kitten i have ever seen, since moot and dreamer, and at least those were inanimate objects/silly animal not even in the game. you gonna make a legendary for every NPC species that nobody gives a kitten about? does the shield say COO every 5 seconds?
if this were a black lion set thatd be awesome. 1 weapon for every race in the game. but as a legendary? its stupid and insulting.

Yeah, I agree.
Because now the missing narrative is hurting the “epicness” of the Legendarys.
It´s much easier to stomach the silly ones, if there is at least some “backstory” and as seen with Chuka and Champwhat, or H.O.P.E. they are able to create such feats.
I know it is a money issue, but still… I got less reason to do them now, because I have no journey. Only grind.
Considering the HoT Legendaries and the new mace I thought we were done with
sillyoutrageously over the top Legendaries…Shrugs As long as it doesn’t “coo” at passers by.

I just find it very fitting for this legendary that your initials for your signature are “EW”. The skin looks great, but there’s nothing legendary about it, much like there isn’t anything legendary about the rest of the joke weapons (My Little Pony bow, Troll gun, Disco mace). But then again, Flameseeker of Prophecies and Juggernaut have always been my favorite legendaries, and a part of me is glad that they both remain the best skins for their respective weapon category. The other part is just disgusted that the new legendaries are infinitely harder (and more expensive) to get, than the originals, and a group of people decided that all your work, time and effort is only worth owning black Clauss (American Dad).
BTW: I will repeat/add, the problem is not the skin, I get it, ANET wants to appeal to everyone and it’s “funny” (according to no one ever). But these are legendaries, if you wanted glorified Joke weapons there’s the BLTC. And transmutation stones, if life wasn’t complete if the Joke weapons didn’t have legendary stats. Because as a company, we wouldn’t ever be complete if we don’t appeal to all those funny/troll people out there, right? rolls eyes

Theres actually two other new skins shown in that post. The charr has frozen gloves(cough next map collection cough) and the kodan staff I believe is new?
I just wish legendaries weren’t jokes. Seriously, what is so legendary about a man running around in his quaggan pajamas.

Gross.
If I were into legendaries, then I’d be all for using a quaggan as a shield.

IF AND ONLY IF….we ever get to Elona in the future….. I would like to be an Elonian Centuar, seeing they are, or were at peace with Humans. Look at the late MMORPG Shadowbane. They had Centaurs as a playable race. I’m sure a lot of people dislike bipedals as playable races, and want something different. GW2 can be that game that breaks the ice.
If they put playable centaurs in I’d immediately make a centaur thief just for the pleasure of repeatedly doing the Death Blossom when attacking.
Legs everywhere!! lol.
ANet may give it to you.
I would have liked it if Anet made Kodans playable rather than Norns. Norns are just big humans.
First of all, I don’t believe adding a new race would benefit the game much and it would require an insane amount of work. Inculpatus cedo.9234 posted a nice list of the kind of work we are talking about.
Now, let’s enter the hypothetical realm of maybe adding a new race despite all of the above. One of the things to note is that any new race added cannot be any of the so called “Lesser Races”, that is: Skritt, Quaggan, Ogre, Hylek and Grawl. They already have a story in the game, there are the racial sympathy quests for the Orders and they are not as defined as the other races. Not to mention they don’t wear armor so they are terrible candidates to even consider as a playable race.
Which leaves us with Tengu, Largos and Kodan as possible candidates for a new playable race. There is also the possibility of something completely new but there is no point discussing something that doesn’t exist.
Armors:
Largos can use the body of the humans, Kodan the body of the Norn and Tengu the body of the Charr, so current armors can “fit” them without much work. The only “issue” is the Largos wings, the designers can’t fit something like a Charr tail on armors, they could never make a fit for wings. That has two possible solutions:
a) Make a new sub species of Largos that are wingless and make it part of the storyline. Maybe they are cursed, or maybe something else happened in the playable variety that they don’t have wings anymore.
b) Ignore the wings and let them clip through armor like charr tails (probably with the exception of their cultural armors)
Cultural Armors:
To avoid extra work for the story (see below at Story part) the new Race will only need one Cultural armor. It’s not too unreasonable to create a new set of armor just for the new races.
Personal Story:
The new Races should never have access to the old Personal Story. This solves the problem of voice overs for the storyline. The easiest way to do this is to allow the new Races to play only in Expansion content, so no extra dialogues for dungeons or other core content would be required. And my suggestion for this, is for the new Races to start at level 80, some introductory instances might be needed for their storyline, but nothing extensive.
The Dominion of Winds is an excellent capital for Tengu, a huge Kodan fortress further north can be the capital of the Kodan, and a vast underwater city can serve as the capital of the Largos. All of them can be integrated nicely into the game if they make them level 80 as I suggested above.
In summary: making the new Race like the old ones is a huge no-no, too much effort for little gain. Making them available only in expansion content, their story taking place at the same time as the expansion, might be the best solution for adding a new race in the game without considerable effort.
Inculpatur as far as the home city goes, there is an area already laid out of Tengu, ’tween LA and Caledon forest, but what could be behind there! a city, just a passage way or something else?! Maybe ANet already has a plan for that area.
For the next expansion, I’d like to see players own a house inside their home instance.
We could buy it empty and start crafting the decorations and furniture we want our house to have. This will need a new working bench and/or a Master crafter, inside or outside of the home instance, to accommodate our newly aquired crafting profession and provide us with new recipes, like crafting a bed, a painting, external lamps, etc.
The property contracts could be either given upon purchase of the expansion pack, or sold through the gem store.
Other players could visit our house when we are in a party, much like home instance works right now.

maybe, if the problem is 2 sexes and 5 races there can be a solution:
1 eliminate gender diversity on the same theme (if i want to wear as a male something specifically designed for female i should be able to and viceversa)
2 make outfits like armor parts instead of a unique piece so we can mix and match outfits instead of armors
