That option is like the minimap equivalent of keyboard turning …
Which option? Rotating or not rotating?
I cannot stand rotating, myself. I grew up using paper maps and have a solid relational sense of direction when it comes to left/right and n/s/e/w. But I need to know which way I’m facing to relate my position to other things on the map. so the map needs to hold still, darn it.
I don’t mind when a GPS is “first person view” for traveling but when viewing the route over all it had better be showing me north at the top of my screen ><
Checked a bunch and they all shoot you off in the direction that the arrow points on the map.
I’m guessing a lot of people, including some at Anet, forgot that there is an option to make the mini-map rotate. I completely forgot about it until I saw this topic. I never use it because my terrible sense of direction is even worse if the map keeps moving.
Have you submitted an in-game bug report? If not I strongly recommend you send one in so they have a record of the problem and can work out how to fix it, because without that they may never even know there’s a problem to be fixed.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Indeed. They aren’t even really arrows, but triangular shaped burrows; in one, out the other. You may have noticed that a shorter or longer time elapses between entering the burrow and exiting; that’s the time it takes to travel from one to the other. The arrows on the mini-map indicate the correct destination direction.
Think of them as one tube that has the middle buried underground. The two ends stick out at the vents. The end you are shot out of points towards your destination and the end you enter points away.
Enter here ^ —> exit ^ —> direction of travel.
ANet may give it to you.
If you look there are two vents in a row. You get in one that’s pointing away from where you will go. You travel underground a short distance to the next vent that is pointing the way you will go. That second vent that’s pointing the direction you’ll go is the one you are shot out of.
ANet may give it to you.
As said – max height asura with smallest head size and they are then large enough to be noticed while well proportioned by our human standards.
I’ve had a number of comments/whispers on cuteness and even with max fov and maximum zoom out of camera I can still see the key skins that define ny character’s look.
Almost everyone I run into makes Charr as tall as possible ( even if it means they look like they are moving in slow motion because of it ) and Asura as small as possible for PvP. You can make an Asura pretty “large” if you push the slider up and choose a bulkier build. I see details on my Asura just fine.
If you think Asura armors don’t get you props and that sending it to a charr will rectify this, then I have a bridge for 1000g. :p
Did you ever consider that people just might not like your character design? :P
I personally recieve a lot of compliments when I’m on my main asura elementalist allthough it doesn’t stand out much (no bright colours or anything, fanciest thing she’s got is the broom and that’s just a recent addition).
P.S.: Oh and then there’s of course my ranger! People might hate rangers but they just can’t hate him
Funny story: I already named him after a bat (because of his dark skin and big ears) before bat wings were even added to the game

I think we can say that this thread has officially become a “show off your asura” thread.
I fail to see the problem, here
If you use max height asuras they are noticeable enough. Unless a norn is standing in front of you.
Next to a human a max-height female asura can still be easily seen. max-height male asaras are even bigger.
And really this game doesn’t have high enough texture and model fidelity so asuras being less noticeable isn’t costing you much detail.

Still have my first Asura I made.
Aesthetically a lot of their armor skins are wonky/oversized, shoulders especially.
Competitively… the more ‘unnoticeable’ I am the better? Mwuahahha. I mostly WvW so I often pick Asura because of their apparent hard to see animations, or so people claim.
I get whispers all the time of ‘omg your Asura is adorable’. I made mine all the tallest they could be, which is around the smallest for human and I have spent literally hours at the wardrobe trying to find the perfect combination. Maybe it’s the heavy armor? I never liked the heavy armors much in this game.
I find that Humans are all so bland, Norn are just bigger Humans and while there are a million combinations for a Sylvari, they tend to run the bland gambit as well. Charr can be cool, I’ve seen some seriously awesome looking Charr or a super adorable female one. Wish I could take staring at the slow feeling loping gait of the Charr but after playing Asura all the time, I can’t do it.
I notice what asura look like. I may not always compliment them on it, especially if they’re just wearing ascended armour (I think the full set together looks a bit of a mess, although the individual pieces are ok), but I often pay attention to how other people have designed their characters.
I personally like to play asura couse of their lore and “lifestyle”. regardless if the looks are you are after here are some examples in 3 weights (heavy, med, light) that might inspire you. Also you can have a look at gw2style.com. many people “showoff” their characters there.

Here’s some of the asura from my screenshot gallery. I have more but they have character names in and I can’t be bothered to edit them all right now.

Excelsior.
I only play diminutive races and these, uh, let’s call it “concerns”, are pretty common and could be 1:1 from e.g. Final Fantasy 14 with their Lalafell.
First: People very often complain about ugly/stretched design on tall creatures. I’ve figured out, Asura are downward compatible, meaning ALL designs fit on them (size-wise; sometimes we lose our ears…) but most probably not on a Charr or look awkward on beanpole characters.
Second: Why does it take “time and trouble” to zoom in?!? I play this game mostly as 3rd person game and thus peaking over my Asura’s shoulder. If it’s very crowded or needed for jumping (or when pacing trough a herd of Dolyaks which take over my whole sight sometimes; the fate of an Asura^^) I zoom out a few mousewheel clicks. I also use the V button a lot (I call it the rear-mirror) to see what’s happening. Of course I am talking about not-so dangerous moments, but nobody would check details on clothes during an epic fight anyways.
I really heard this in all games before and it’s all the same. In FF14, some outfits look hideous on a tall Elf (Elezen) due to their long legs and torso while my Lalafell (short and pear-like stature) looked nice.
But if you enjoy the look of dressed-up cabbage or want to be a generic Bookah, fine, go ahead. \( ° . °)/
and politically highly incorrect. (#Asuracist)

Why do people always make changes like this to be more important then things in the core game? It seems kind of like an entitled attitude and nitpicking at this point.
I don’t really have a problem with it, but hearing someone use a tome 79 times is horribly annoying. I don’t want to have to mute all sound for such a small thing.
Early in the game, Tomes were more rare and usually only one was used. I’m sure the devs wanted to show that gaining a level was a big deal so they gave it the noise and light. But now that people use Tomes by the score, I think the devs should simply remove the noise and light.
The first time I experienced someone using something like 20 Tomes at once, I had no idea what it was. I had never used a Tome because I like to level my characters. I thought the person was just spamming some weapon skill or something lol.
As for moving away, if I’m busy looking in my bank for something or looking through the possible wardrobe (in the bank since I haven’t unlocked everything), I can’t simply move away without a fair bit of inconvenience.
How about a consume all like we have with luck? Or if you have a large number Consume # then you enter the number you wish to use? Then it would only be once, faster for them as well.
I think a new interface option is a great idea. But I would vote for something that lets you indicate how many to use and then simply makes your character that level instead of “using” a Tome over and over.

That’s not how this works around here, silly.
Mystic forge lady will accept 20 Tomes in exchange for a mega-tome that gives 20 levels. Coming soon.
How about instead 80 tomes for a Level-80 Boost?

I think you might all be over-reacting to something that doesn’t happen very often
I honestly tune out most of these things so I just don’t notice them anymore. The only one I can’t seem to is that Norn woman in Hoelbrak that yells,
“Take heed! I haven’t taken leave of me senses! I’ve seen creatures of metal and steam!”
Really, lady? I thought we covered why they were there years ago. Get with the times.
i wonder what if there’s a risen merchant,…
“GOLD, GOOD!!!”
