There never was much to “believe” or be surprised about since the biography in character creation outright stated why revenants used blindfolds.

I fight with my _ blindfold on to shut out the distractions of the physical world and focus my magical inner sight.

Veil Piercer (“veil piercer”) — Form follows function with this blindfold, designed both to cover a revenant’s eyes and help punch through the barriers that conceal the unseen.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Biography#Revenant

“Magical inner sight” is similar terminology to what ritualists ‘used’ when looking for the spirit threads that made summoning spirits easier.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Oceania/Australia servers

I’m Australian and I wouldn’t play on Oceanic servers! There would be no one there to play with.

Many Australian players of any MMORPG have learned to deal with the triple digit ping and we wouldn’t trade the around the clock population for anything – and that’s before you take into consideration many of us have made friends all around the globe and US servers are typically used for international gathering being the mid point between Asia/Oceania and Europe.

This. I’m on the EU servers and there’s no way I would go from that population to the one Oceanic servers would have.

People cried for Oceanic servers in Diablo 3 as well, They got them. The servers went from near 400 games open on the US/EU realms at all times to 0 on the Oceanic realms.

I give up. You’ve missed the entire point of “surplus”. Not every thing we do in the game has to have a reward in addition to the satisfaction of getting things done (not to mention the other rewards that we got while earning the point).

The point was NEVER to have extra points lying around for no reason whatsoever. The point was to have flexibility. Surplus was the means to that end.
And if that end has already been reached, surplus are worthless.

And if you give a secondary purpose to those points, that end won’t be reached.

This may answer some of your question(s):

Q: Do I need to own Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ in order to play Path of Fire?

Owning Heart of Thorns isn’t required to access Path of Fire content. However, some content is exclusive to Heart of Thorns.

  • You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the gliding mastery, as well as all other masteries introduced in and exclusive to that expansion. You will be able to complete all of the content in Path of Fire without the use of any Heart of Thorns-exclusive masteries.
  • You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the 9 elite specializations introduced with that expansion.
  • Path of Fire includes access to the revenant profession, but not the Herald elite specialization. If you only own Path of Fire, you will be able to create a revenant character and unlock the Renegade elite specialization.
  • You must purchase Heart of Thorns to claim the new guild hall released in Path of Fire, and access the Scribe crafting discipline to fully upgrade your guild hall.

Group abusing pugs to sell raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Alright, consider this to be an official statement from a guy who sold the Xera raid, and who sells raid in general.

- Before we start i’d like you to know that “i do get it” that this opinion of mine will not be highly accepted, however i’ll still share my part – and regardless of what you here are doing or saying, will continue to do raids my way.

The player above, who posted this post, is a person who used to raid with me about a year and something ago, when i "busted my kitten to explain tactics & make entertaining raids, for my fellow guildies and so.

Now let me tell you, i’ve pugged a lot, my stream’s basically a “autistic rant” regarding “french players & bad pugs in general” – which may or may not be entertaining
[Do come viewbot at twitch.tv/johnscfreeman]
[SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION]
… Now jokes aside

My raids that i sell usually last 20 to 25 min, when they’re focused on one person only.
The kill will happen within 2 to 5 tries.
The “fiesta” on |xera| was an exception – and an error on my end, and my end only.
Do know, that – the people that i sell raids to, know how i do, it, what we do.
I give them a choice – if it is alright with them, we may continue, if it isn’t, that’s perfectly alright.

The way i’m justifying this is pretty simple, in all my time “pugging” i’ve seen commanders fail mostly themselves, and ending up getting carried by rest of the 9 players, or they have a friend that they themselves want to carry.

The pugs will stick, or they will not.

This way – the way that i am selling, i am selling my services as a good raid-leader, and basically a host.
- Should i not profit out of something that i am good at?
- But the PUGS don’t know that you’re doing it?

And why exactly should they care? I usually have 1 to 3 people with me, that’ll carry the raid themselves.
a PUG with “enough LI” who is “a decent player” [Do know that i have taken people with 50 or less LIs to raid, but firstly they had to convince me to keep them]
They’re only interested in:
a) killing the boss
b) having fun

They’re free to stick around, and they’re both free to leave, even after first try or in pre-creation, if they’re not satisfied with something.

That’s about it, i don’t feel like i’m abusing anyone, that 1 person which i am selling raid to, is usually a 1 person that you would have in a raid anyway.

That’s it from me, enjoy folks.

Thanks for responding. Instant added on my block list (not that I pug a lot but still).

As other have stated, it’s not the issue that you are selling raids. It’s how you are going about it.

It’s the fact that you are withholding vital information from pugs who you have join under false pretense asking way higher experience from them than the people you are selling the raid to.

You are essentially taking advantage of others or else you could openly communicate that you are selling the run or you could fill up with more inexprienced players.

Please add Tengu, and here is why

Mounts were never going to happen until the community pushed for it hard enough.

Two false assumptions there. You’re assuming that Anet had crossed off mounts from GW2 because Anet thought <insert your unstated reason for Anet to cross them off>. You then assume that it was community pressure that made them change their minds. Here’s a clip which adds more details on that decision: https://youtu.be/cZBW9eGriD8?t=123

What I am very displeased with is the weapon skin and the outfit. I feel like 0 thought went into any of this.

I can understand you feelings, but I am pretty sure a lot of thought went into them. They are replicas or based on items that were a part of Nightfall in GW1. Offering them was a nod to the first game which many loved.

The weapon is a shrapnel of metal that they flailed out into a spike and they have 0 effects, 0 look and look like the dev team just threw it together over night and then claim its the weapons of the crystal des.

Actually they are nods to weapons from Nightfall. Many of the current weapons didn’t exist so they were crafted in that vein. Not all of us want sparkly, flash, weapons. These skins speak to me on a nostalgic and more realistic level.

Also the outfit. Now come on Anet I just bought the last outfit and it was the coolest one of all time. Next to the wintersday glowing one they are so cool, and we got some white pads that look like a combat wedding dress…

Your thoughts on the weapons and the outfit are purely subjective. You have every right to feel as you do, but my feelings about the weapons and outfit are completely opposite yours. I thought the last outfit was terrible. I love this Sunspear/Paragon outfit. It is simple and clean. It doesn’t have spikes all over or glow effects or any other weird (to me) things going on I do not enjoy. There is no way they can make something that pleases everyone. It doesn’t make them bad, it makes them not pleasing to you.

No one, and I repeat no one will use this as their fashion. Thoughts?

Simply not true. I already have the outfit on two of my characters. Elona was my favorite place in GW1 and I loved my Paragon. So you can repeat yourself over and over, but it will never make that last statement true or well thought out.

Gift of Souls

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s really simple. The Gift of Souls is only used in “The Crossing”. That item is a regular exotic weapon and it’s unique skin is the only reason to obtain it. With the changes to the transmutation system, there is only a need to get one per account. The market is saturated from this change and there are better options to invest in.

Perhaps it’d be better in new fractal was in category of its own? T5. And move CM versions and further new fractals there too?

We don’t want to make a Tier 5. Players historically all try to concentrate in the highest tier, and adding another one just means further spreading out the player base,. Eventually they will all end up in Tier 5 anyways, it just requires even more progression and hard work to get to the end. We feel like T4 is good for “max difficulty” and CM’s allow us to add another layer of challenge for hardcore players without requiring us to make T5 versions of every fractal.

Most Gemstore Outfits Cannot be Brought

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

They change what’s in the gem store periodically. Some things like the ghostly outfit are tied to specific festivals – in that case Halloween. Others just come and go periodically throughout the year.

Strange as it sounds it actually increases sales, for 3 reasons:
1) Less stuff to sort through so less risk of players getting bored or overwhelmed trying to find something to buy.
2) Gets people like me who might spend forever thinking we’ll maybe buy it one day to get on and make a decision because it’s going to be gone soon.
3) Gives the and excuse to advertise stuff again – when items are brought back they’re on the promotions page, and often mentioned in the news posts on the main site and on Facebook and Twitter. Which draws attention to them.

Of course they could do 3 anyway, but it has less impact when it’s simply “Hey don’t forget we’re selling this thing”.

Yes it sucks if you want to buy something which isn’t currently available and yes that does mean they might lose sales (e.g. I wanted to buy the Strider’s armour, once it was back I couldn’t remember why I wanted it and didn’t get it), but in spite of that it’s a very common marketing strategy precisely because it works.

Finally figured it out. The bug was hilarious but too technical to explain. Fix incoming.

You know you want to tell us

Yeah…

Finally figured it out. The bug was hilarious but too technical to explain. Fix incoming.

Try us. Im sure it will make for an entertaining Dev blog.

OK fine.

So I started by looking at the anomaly’s creature script. The fact that this was a consistent teleport at 50% made it seem like it would be an easy thing to track down, and the creature script was the likely culprit.

The anomaly had a script handler listening for it to hit 50% health. In this handler was a call to teleport it to the center of the map, presumably the designer who originally built the anomaly put it there as a safeguard, but it should not be needed. I figured, “maybe the teleport is failing and picking the wrong navmesh?” so I just deleted the whole handler.

The boss still teleported at 50%…

OK so it isn’t the creature script, so I looked at everything referencing the anomaly with regards to its 50% health threshold, and the only thing left was a map script. This map script did nothing but set a trigger, but there was a handler listening for this trigger that fired a skill at the feet of the anomaly “Unstable Matrix”, which is the skill that targets everyone and makes platforms fall.

This skill is not sourced from the boss, since the boss is doing his own thing at this time. Instead, the skill is sourced from an invisible, unattackable gadget that spawns right at the feet of the anomaly. These types of gadgets are called “skill launchers” and are used in places throughout the game, though we try to avoid them these days as they have a tendency to be buggy. For instance, until last year, some player skills such as the revenant sword 2 would randomly target these skill launchers, and players would see their projectiles flying at invisible objects.

All gadgets in our game have flags that define their behavior. Skill launchers were properly flagged to be unattackable and non targetable, but I discovered that they, hilariously enough, were not flagged as “No Collide”.

The skill launcher at the anomaly’s feet was colliding with him when it spawned. And when colliding gadgets collide with a creature when they initialize, they “Eject” said creatures, causing them to teleport to nearby navmesh. The reason the boss would teleport back to the center at 25% was because of those teleport safeguards on the creature script. But of course the next time Unstable Matrix fired it would teleport back out.

Flagging skill launchers as no collide solved this bug (and probably some elsewhere), and then Bill fixed some issues that could cause creatures to teleport too far away when ejecting, as the anomaly had.

Well Eternaab, what you still haven’t understood till this point is that it is a abysmal impertinence to take players with little to 0 experience, take money from them, put them in a squad and then ask 150 LI players to join to kill a boss without them knowing in the first place that this run is most likely to fail because there are “hidden” players in this squad who had never or rarely beaten it.
Look from the other perspective: You see the LFG popping up with “Xera – 150 LI” (and maybe more requirements) and you join there because you think that a 150 LI group will be able to kill her. The thing is you don’t know that there are people inside this group that have no clue at all (at worst) and they prevent you from killing the boss which could be killed in 1-5 attempts in a group with these requirements.
As player with 150 LI you are left in uncertainty about those “bad apples” and that’s absolutely unfair to them.

Actually, one did not ride Queen Aijundu but ‘rode’ in other Jujundu worms.

Same with Siege Devourers, one rode in them. One’s skill bar completely changed, and you would no longer see your character.

It’s a bit different than riding on the new Mounts. Also, but for the initial ‘engage combat’ skill, one can not fight on Mounts.

A couple more improvements will be making their way into our next build. Several of the changes will also globally improve other maps, too (how much improvement really is unknown until they are live).

And to clear things up, I’m referring strictly to server-side performance. Skill lag will almost always come from that, unless there’s other factors limiting the connection between the client and server.

Nothing is trivial when it comes to spawn code.

I nailed down what was causing this, it wasn’t just something with this specific spawn. The problem was related to the cage that the spawn goes in. There was a problem with the way we enable/disable the collision for the cage when the dude would get released at the end of the event. Ultimately this was preventing the area inside the cage from being ‘spawn-able’.

I’m sure this same bug was causing all sorts of other random failures across the game.

Anyways, the fix is slated for our next build unless we identify any issues with the fix between now and then and have to yank it out. I’m making zero promises here.

Need way to SHUT OFF or remap GLIDER

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Panda.1967

Panda.1967

From what I’m reading, the issue you’re encountering is due to the fact that the glider will deploy any time you press jump while in the air… It’s not even an issue with just hitting jump to frequently, as the instant your feet hit the ground glide is disabled again… However, with a high ping you can quite easily end up with either one of two situations…

1) A slow response from the server resulted in the jump key not switching back to jump after landing causing you to glide off of a platform you just landed on when you tried to jump again.

2) Latency issues resulted in you seeing yourself on a platform client side that you had either not actually arrived at Serverside or had in actuality overshot, resulting in your character having never landed before you hit jump the second time.

About the only thing you can do is just be a little more patient, wait a little bit between jumps to ensure that you will in fact jump instead of glide off of the platform.

Please stop assuming I’m a guy… I am female.
