Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Behellagh.1468

We don’t want mounts because we don’t want ANet to waste their limited resources on something with limited impact on game play. They don’t need to waste animators and artists to build various living mounts and how player character models need to be animated to mount, dismount and ride them. I would rather animators create more player character emotes than a “feature” to make the game more like other MMOs.

The ONLY place I can see mounts are in areas where the Asura hasn’t had a chance to lay down waypoints.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

if you don’t see the benefit of the years you owned the game for and all the living world content that was available for free upon logging in then as well, then I’m not sure what to tell you.

someone purchasing now from f2p still has to buy the living world season 2 (1280 gems) as well as any season 3 episodes they weren’t around for, and completely missed out on season 1 and other one time events. pretty sure that negates any ‘saving’ they are supposed to be making over people who’ve played since the start.

future lw releases, open beta testing plz?

in Living World

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

My other MMO – Elder Scrolls Online – has a Public Test Server (PTS) and exactly the same thing happens there with numerous hot fixes and follow-up patches after an update is released.

I think there’s a few reasons public beta testing isn’t effective at stopping this:

1) The vast majority of people who play on the PTS are not actually interesting in finding and reporting bugs. Many simply want to mess around with the tools provided for testing (like instantly creating a max level character), or they just want to play the new release early, either just because they’re curious or so they can do things like practice raids so they can claim to be the first to beat it when it’s released.

2) Related to 1 in some cases people have actively tried to prevent bugs and exploits from being reported so they’d make it into the live game and could be exploited before being reported and fixed.

3) Even when people do provide feedback it’s usually not great. QA is as much a skill as any other part of game design – I’ve been told that a good tester can recite from memory every single action they took (as in every key they pressed, exactly where their character walked etc.) for the past hour. They need to be able to do that in order to correctly identify what’s causing a bug and replicate it. So a post from someone on the forum saying “X is bugged, plz fix” doesn’t really help the company at all – they still need to get someone to find out what’s actually wrong with it, what’s causing that and what needs to happen for it to be fixed.

4) Sometimes they simply don’t have time to fix everything. There’s a lot of factors that go into deciding when to release even a small update and bug fixing is just one of those. They can’t put the release on hold indefinitely to make sure all the bugs are fixed, so the QA team just has to do as much as they can with the time they have. They’ll have a list of bugs ranked by priority (how badly they break the game) and they’ll fix as many as they can in the time they have and then fix the rest later. Often if a release has “tons of bugs” it’s 99% very minor things – they description on an item was wrong or you have to talk to an NPC twice before they’ll sell you something. What you don’t see is the ones they fixed instead – the one where talking to an NPC crashes the server or entering a story instance locks you out of your character or right-clicking on an essential item causes it to disappear, or something explodes and turns 1/2 a dozen surrounding items bright pink….

5) Sometimes bugs appear between testing and release. My favourite example of this isn’t from a game at all: In my old job we had a database we used to log enquires. When we got a new version it was tested by all 7 end users on the same PCs we’d be using the final version on and we all agreed it was pretty much bug free. The only thing that happened after that was we saved it to a new location on the server. Somehow that introduced a bug where if you clicked the empty space next to a button it asked if you wanted to save, and if you clicked yes the program crashed. I left the company a year and a half later and that was never fixed, because no one could figure out what was causing it.

On top of which they have to accept that a PTS means putting staff time (and therefore money) into moderating that community, collating feedback and ‘managing’ testers, and that it means there will basically be no surprises in anything they ever release. It’s bad enough when stuff leaks – imagine if there was never any mystery about any new release because everyone already knew exactly what was in it, right down to every single new item, and 1/2 the players had already completed it.

[Suggestion] Personality Animations/Voices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: starlinvf.1358

starlinvf.1358

Simply put…. voice actors are expensive. With amount of Dialog this game has, even in the incidentals, is hours of audio. Producing even 5 seconds of usable dialog can take up to 30-45 minutes of a studio time with a VA, over multiple retakes, to get the desired tone and characteristics for the sample.

To produce a personality shift for combat and ambient dialog, they’d have to go back and redo everything that isn’t story dialog. To include story dialog (for consistency) would take several weeks, plus well into 6 figures additional to the above costs, AND would have to be included in all new content, as well as all new voice packs having to retroactively redo dialog for all past content.

So while it seems like a “simple” bit of content, you can’t just ignore the need for consistency with the way the game’s story content has to be presented, and the massive costs required to maintain that much audio that can’t be compartmentalized to a specific story arc.

Theres already another thread discussing the VA change for the Female Charr between Pact and Heart of Thorns story lines. This alone shows VA changes can massively stand out to even casual observers, and serves to high light a few major problems that exist with content production that has to span multiple years.

Even if we go the easy route to add dialog to the library, using the same VAs and personality archetypes, thats still going to cost studio time and VA fees. Given the amount of work and cost that goes into creating these recording sessions, its actually way more efficient to incorporate this into the scheduling for an expansion or LS arc, and add it to the core game, rather then bespoke paid content.

HOT vendor for conversion.

so introduce skinning animals and skinning tools would be beneficial on this point ^^

None of the posters here even see a problem with coming upon a player that has obviously taken a champ down to the last hit before death by themselves, and they would take that one shot before that player if they can, every time and then go “oh, were you trying to kill that?”

Just curious: how is it obvious that a person has done all the work before you came along? I have found that one of the prime strategies in GW2 is to “tag” as much as you can, then run away and assume that someone else will finish it so you can get credit. On numerous occasions I have found myself left with a situation that I can’t complete on my own. I wonder where all the people went who were participating? They dd just enough that they thought they would get credit and then went on to tag the next thing.

So no, it isn’t obvious if you come upon someone soloing an event or champ that the person did the entire thing to that point on their own.

Weird, I distinctly remember farming for years in gw1, for items linked to specific areas or mobs, and not getting the drop. Hundreds of hours, no luck.

Funny bit of trivia, “almost impossible,” means, “not impossible.”

Then it dropped in a to big area (so to many mobs dropping it) or from an mob that people farmed or ArenaNet wanted the item to be so extremely exclusive meaning buying it with gold would also be also close to impossible.

Obviously a developer can make the drop-rate as low as they want, making it close to impossible to get it. But when making the currency vs direct drop-rate comparison you can argue with me as much as you want, you are really arguing with math.

So, in other words, even in a game without a cash shop focus or currency related item acquisition, items can be “almost impossible to get,” even if farmed for directly. And your claim to tbe contrary was inaccurate.

CD Key Offers, Thought I'd Share!

cd-keys.com are not a scam website they actually sell keys for consoles as well as pc. They have never once sold me a dud key and all of the keys I’ve ever purchased have been legit. I’ve not bought for this game specifically mostly for my console but they are definitely not a scam.

I’m happy you have had positive experiences. From what someone wrote, the site is akin to an eBay or Amazon, with individuals making sales. If that’s true, then there are a lot of variables on how a transaction concludes. Having been involved in trying to resolve issues, or communicate about risks in the past, I take a conservative approach to any seller that is not on the authorized list.

Legally, it’s expected that a communications liason aren’t allowed to endorse companies not listed on the official website, due to possible legal ramifications.

However, luckily I’ve taken the risk and tested them 6x times and I can say with full confidence the keys they sell are legitimate. I have yet to receive a fake/non-working key to this day.

You may not have spent much time in the Account Support sub-forum, where there have been multiple threads asking why their CD Keys only worked for a few days. Showing you successfully unlocked the account may not mean much, when it is terminated later because it was found to be a fraudulent key.

Best of luck.

And where exactly are these threads that are making these claims? did they cite the website they’ve used? Please cite sources. I’ve attempted to search your claim on google. Zero hits.

The player bought their key from G2A. As I pointed out in that thread, ArenaNet has that website on a blacklist.

cd-keys.com are not a scam website they actually sell keys for consoles as well as pc. They have never once sold me a dud key and all of the keys I’ve ever purchased have been legit. I’ve not bought for this game specifically mostly for my console but they are definitely not a scam.

Just because they sell keys for a wide variety of games across multiple platforms doesn’t mean they’re “legit” or trustworthy.

G2A, Kinguin, and MMOGA all offer similar variety for game keys across multiple platforms (among other stuff). But they’re all on ArenaNet’s blacklist, as can be seen by their Tybalt Leftpaw Reddit bot: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4vd9on/i_hope_this_will_keep_the_people_away_from_g2a/d5xej23/

The thing is, not all fraudulent keys are caught right away. Sometimes it can take a while, and sometimes they’re never caught.

From what I can tell, CDKyes is “legit” in the sense they don’t sell fraudulent keys and do give what people pay for. But, they are a “grey market”. They get legit keys to resell, but are not authorized resellers for some or all of the games and other goods they sell.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDealsMeta/comments/61z9xe/is_cdkeyscom_legit/ A mod here says that (CDKeys) is not allowed in the /r/gamedeals subreddit because they are a grey market. Other comments here say it’s a grey market, with at least 1 mentioning they’re not an authorized reseller.

How does CDKeys get their keys they sell? Well https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDealsMeta/comments/61z9xe/is_cdkeyscom_legit/dfld4yl/

They buy retail region lock free games (from russia for example) where the game is much cheaper and then sell the cd keys online. So, no, they are not an official games vendor but i haven’t heard of people getting ripped off by them.

A couple years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/30zq02/is_cdkeyscom_legit/cpxbzbw/ Same thing:

CD key sites like that tend to be considered a legal “grey area”. They are not authorized resellers. The keys could be taken from products purchased on the black market, there’s no way of knowing. That said, the codes will most likely work fine. There’s a good chance the money you pay is not supporting the developer though. I would recommend waiting for the games you want to go on sale and buying them from authorized sites.

The bottom line is, if they aren’t on ArenaNet’s list of authorized retailers (and Gaile Gray already said they aren’t), you would be taking a chance when purchasing from them.

Meanwhile we already have the model so its not that muchh work and its a common practice for sab to get a recolour so far so why not. It would be extra cool if these were also “prestigious” and not a gold sink like what both the other colour versions ended up being.

The probelm with loot in the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

There’s nothing exciting about it.

Regular, fine, masterwork, and rare equipment merits as trash to be salvaged, and mostly everything can be crafted or bought with some sort of currency. Face it, the only decent loot in this game comes that can’t be bought with gold are crafting materials or items you grind for (e.g. ascended items bought using map specific tokens) or skins. Bag slots are used to hold the sheer amount of garbage loot so you can play without hitting the NPC. Does anyone see anything wrong with this?

I propose to reconcile the equipment / sigils / runes in this game.

  • Any equipment masterwork or below has no business in this game. Delete them and make rare equipment the standard (but don’t call it rare).
  • Delete minor and major sigils and runes. and remove the level /rarity requirements of superior runes and sigils.
  • Add exotic equipement / ascended equipement / legendary equipment / superior sigil drops that are untradeable and have something unique about them. Like a piece of equipment that only has one stat, or have an uncommon ability (e.g. increased damage vs a certain pve mob – by the way, those sigils should be deleted as well)

For new players this is all kinds of no good.

For vets, like myself who haven’t raced to max my magic find, I still want the essences luck to drop.

For people with maxed out magic find just think of the blues and greens as mat producers.

Everyone has their own opinion of “grind” but when it comes to making ascended armor/weapons, I don’t look at it like grind but as working toward what I want.

Race should matter! A short rant.

Just a flesh wound.3589

Here’s ANet’s quote on racial skills and the philosophy behind them.

Eric Flannum: Each of the five races has unique skills available to them. Our philosophy behind the design of these racial skills is that they are slightly weaker than equivalent skills determined by profession. While they may be less powerful, the racial skills capture the flavor of each race and provide additional options for the player. For example, a human playing a profession that normally doesn’t have a good way of dealing with conditions could take the ‘Prayer to Kormyr’ racial skill, which removes a condition but is a fair bit weaker than comparable skills provided by a profession specializing in condition removal. By doing this, we hope to give the various races access to skills that make them feel unique without making them overpowered when played as a particular profession

There’s a link but the quote is so old (Feb 2010) it’s no longer a direct link to the interview.

Essentially, they didn’t want racial skills to be so good that a race is chosen for particular content or profession because of those skills.

Need a ruling on game policy

Just a flesh wound.3589

This is a long ago post about selling dungeon runs, but it’s the same policy. You can buy or sell ingame services or items with ingame gold/items and you won’t be sanctioned, but support willl not help you if you are scammed. (However the scammer will be sanctioned if its proven s/he scammed).

Hi guys!

I wanted to give you a quick rundown on what involvement Customer Support takes regarding Dungeons; specifically where trading wealth is involved. Let’s look at the two parts of this:

1. We do not reimburse wealth lost to other players for any reason if it is outside of the Black Lion Trading Post. This is because Customer Support can not duplicate wealth. With the volume of requests coming in we alone would damage the economy if we were to restore wealth lost when trading takes place.

2. We terminate accounts permanently for defrauding (scamming). If you are found to make a deal to trade (say, sword for gold) and not hold up your end we will investigate and terminate. If you are the victim of a scam you should submit a support ticket and provide what you lost and the time and date as accurately as you recall. This is usually all we need to research the event but we will ask you if we need more info. You do have a right to know the outcome of these investigations but be aware these take us a few days to resolve.

Please be sure to include the full details of your trade via game chat (any channel is fine) in Guild Wars 2
We absolutely must be able to see the deal being made to find guilt. Do not use voice chat software or other means to communicate while making a sale/trade.

Again; this will help us terminate accounts that are cheating other players but will not result in a recovery of your losses.

Please understand that you are allowed to trade outside of the BLTP – but you will not receive replacements for lost items or gold. The same goes for selling dungeon runs. CS will not suspend or terminate you for selling runs. We will, however, take action if you take payment and not fulfill your end of the bargain.

I’ll watch this thread for questions and clarify where needed. Thanks!

ANet may give it to you.

I wonder this always so called ‘you buy gems back with gold which others bought with real money etc. So there should be a limited amount of gems. But I never see it to happen. I can hardly imagine that there is a limit where they tell a willing player who wants to buy gems with real money ’sorry dude, we are out of gems’.

The exchange doesn’t affect a player’s ability to buy items with gems purchased with real world currency. What gems that are in the exchange are those that were traded in for gold.

I’d also like to suggest Aetherkey pieces.
I know many will say that they belong on a keyring, but:

  1. They are not keys, just pieces, and
  2. People have been wanting a keyring for a while now, it still hasn’t happened, and removing them from mat storage in case a keyring is added doesn’t sound too hard.

Key ring or equivalent is coming soon. Pieces are like sand, just use them and make the keys. Opening Aether chests isn’t worth it nowadays anyway

WHOA WHOA WHOOOOOOA there. A key ring is NOT “coming soon”, please manage your expectations. I have indicated that I would prefer to address keys through a key ring, however, I have NOT found anyone to do that work and it can’t be me personally. Considering that, a key ring is currently in indefinite limbo until I can find someone willing to take it on as a side project.

Oh… I only read “key ring is coming” and got really really hyped. Even more so than reading that the next expansion is coming

As to things that imo could be removed from your list:
Bloodstone Shard
Elonian Wine
Eldritch Scoll
Icy Runestone
—> Usually these items are only bought in a quantity that is needed. I kinda like how you have to go to Miyani and buy them for Mystic Forge stuff, it makes this whole process more hands on and involved. And yes, I do have a portable mystic forge, and yes, I know it would be more convenient. But is it really necessary? Id rather see other stuff in crafting material storage tbh.

Mystic Crystals
Philosopher Stones
—> If you dont plan on drastically reducing the rate of how you gain spirit shards, I dont really see the point in keeping those you are forced to buy in excess because of how they are bundled. And if you really want to keep them, its only 2 bank slots.

Legendary Insights
—> As someone that is raiding with pugs for fun a lot, Id still keep those in bank slots for easy access to ping. And if there’s too much of them at one point in the future, a way to convert them to Magnetite Shards or maybe buy Ascended stuff with them would be much more appreciated.
