Starting to fall behind in levels

There is actually enough EXP to be overlevelled on each map if you complete them slowly. It is easy to get underlevelled if you rush map completion though.

If you head to Lions Arch, you can enter through any of the portals to each races city and there are exits there to 4 other starting areas (1-15) where you can complete lower level maps to catch up. There are also maps up to level 50 for each area.

Events are everywhere but only spawn about once every 15mins so its easy to miss them. Heres a link to a map that shows every possible event in the game. http://gw2timer.com/. Meta events provide good exp as the events chain and you dont have to wait around. Wiki lists them all.

You can also gain exp by crafting, gathering materials or using exp scrolls/tomes which you get from daily achievements and log in rewards.

I don’t think it’s right to say this is “unfair”. It isn’t. People with the toy didn’t have a glider a few days ago, they don’t have one now. They aren’t obliged to give one to them.

I do, however, think it would have been nice for ANet to offer a discount. It was done before with the wings, and it would have been a nice and easy way to reward customer loyalty (and in particular, customer loyalty for those who’ve bought gem store items).

ANet is under no obligation to do nice things for their customers. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good idea.

Anything that people can do on multiple accounts, at the same time and with very little effort on their part shouldn’t be allowed. Neither should they be able to “play” their partner’s or friend’s account in there while they take part in any other content with their own account. ArenaNet shouldn’t allow anything that might lead to multiboxing and eventual botting in due time.

First, per the pinned post from Gaile, MULTIBOXING is permitted per the TOS. Go read https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post6142609 if you think I’m lying.

Second, as for your “Anything that can be done on multiple accounts at the same time…” comment, you mean like the Troll Runestone HP in Tangled Depths? I happened to be “multiboxing” last night in TD – I’d left toons from both accounts at the flax farm the night before, when someone popped up in map chat and asked for help. Since my alt didn’t have that point, I went and helped, and managed to get both accounts there in time. Then, after it was done and everyone took off, I hung out and did a little inventory management. On both accounts. And a necro showed up and needed the point. So I dropped a banner, popped my stone spirit, and told him to kick it off. And proceeded to help him take the troll down pretty quickly. Actively using BOTH accounts to do it. AND NO, I didn’t use any special macros or key binds that let me do actions on both accounts simultaneously – all my clicks and key presses were specific to each account’s game window at the time they were executed.

The fact is, multiboxing allows me to gather the resources to build up my guild hall – which I’m doing nearly solo for a guild with about 10 active accounts – and lets me play professions and try out ideas that I wouldn’t otherwise have the resources to do. Just look at the quartz crystals needed for a guild hall. It’s north of 15,000. Just for the ley-line infused tools. You go do that on one account.

Revert back to allowing guilds to be small

I have had my guild since day 1 of the game and there was just 1 other in it besides myself. Before HOT came we had all bank and vault spaces open and a few other things. We didn’t do missions back then because we didn’t think we could do them.

Fast forward to now and since HOT arrived. Since then we have both started to do missions for points and found there are some we can do. Now there is only just me in the guild and guess what I can still solo some of the guild missions!

Ones I can do:

Bounties – I can solo Poobado and that Skritt with his bear in Harathi. Can be tricky sometimes but you can get lucky if other people are around to help.

Races – You just have to make sure to turn up when the time of the day is busy for your server location. You just need to activate the mission and join in another guild’s race and if they reach the total amount needed – bam it will count for your guild if you talk to the NPC at the end of the race.

Trek – you only need to find 5-6 places in their easy version of this. Perfectly doable if you have the Wiki up and a fast enough computer for the loading screens. Only if you get hit with some of the annoying/tricky JP’s will it be a problem.

So having said all that, it is still perfectly fine to level up small guild halls. You just have to give it a try! Not only that but now I can even earn commendations which I never used to be able to.

Could they make it easier for small guilds? Sure they could I guess but will they? Probably not but good luck with that!

Just a tip: You can start the higher tiers of treks and just complete ONE of the required places and you will get the chest reward for doing so. The same goes for races you just need to complete the race once yourself and you will get your personal reward. However doing these wont count as the mission being complete for the guild points.

Since you asked, I’ve added the Rift Stabilizer locations to the world map (Collectible Items section). The labels in Roman numerals are the same as the wiki’s; inactive locations are not included. For example, if you want the location in Bloodtide Coast, dial “VIII”, then dial “VI” on the Rift Stabilizer “telephone”. Coordinates credits go to Tim.

Click on the green circles to “check off” that location. The connecting lines are just to make it easier to see the locations, you don’t have to do it in that order.

All you need to do is lower the price a bit, just make it a decent deal compared to the current price.

Since he already listed the item, this would effectively cost him his 5% listing fee and the cut in price he demands.

The btter approach is to wait a couple of days more and since no economic balance changes are set to be patched in, the risk of a drastic market shift down are lower.

But just how forgiving are the raids?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Feanor.2358

Feanor.2358

Raids require a good amount of efficiency and synergy. That is about it. They do in no way require you to play perfectly or bring a perfect “meta group” that can squeeze out insane amounts of damage and blow everything up without any mistakes.

We have had this talk before. There are “non-meta builds” and “non-meta builds”. Just because people have completed raids with three Bearbows doesn’t make it a good build. It simply means the other seven players had to try much harder to make up for everything the other three were lacking.
However, just because something isn’t exactly meta doesn’t already make it a bad build either. A lot of stuff works. All you need is to hit a certain amount of synergy and efficiency which will then lead to good DPS and a good amount of survivability.
Thrag is right about the strategies. The “meta set-up” is build around the “meta strategies” people use. This means those set-ups might not even work that well for your own group if you variate from the “meta strategy” too much. But you might find it hard to use those strategies if you insist on variating from the “meta builds” too much.

Let’s be honest, the raid encounters are forgiving enough (in the DPS department) that you can go without any of the big three (PS, chrono, druid). You will simply have an increasingly harder time meeting the required amounts of DPS with each of those that you end up excluding.
This and the fact that you have the expect the worst with pugs in general is why people insist on bringing a squad that could theoretically reach 200% of the required numbers. Considering how often the worst happens in pugs, nobody can blame them for doing so.

You’re still focusing on DPS, which is beside the point. The point being, you will likely have the required dps anyway. Mechanics are much, much more important. Mechanics are why people fail at raids. Yet I’ve never seen anyone obsessing about mechanics the way everyone is obsessed by dps.

I found the simplest way to do it was to put one character in Iron Marches and do a circuit of the lakes once or twice a day.

You won’t get coral orbs like you will in the higher level maps, but the map itself is easy to navigate which makes the run quick and simple and the enemies are easy to escape or kill. I didn’t count for my first 2 Manganese (because I was experimenting with different options) but it took me 58 nodes to get the last 8 I needed which would have been about 15 runs, I think it took me about 9 days.

Which was fine for me because while I was doing that I was working on all the other stuff I needed for that tier.

According to the numbers one Spacial Surge is hitting almost 1600 damage with all four ticks.

It only hits for 1000 (340 ticks) up to 2400 (800 crit ticks), it’s channeled over ~2 seconds and they like to pause so it’s about once every 5 seconds.

As a bomb kit #1 spammer, you’re going to have a 0.5s attack speed, so you’re going to see a much larger effect out of their confusion, which is only 1 stack and lasts ~3 seconds, but applied on their basic attack roughly every 5 seconds. Additionally, since you’re in melee, you’re going to be hit by their illusionary wave, which blinds and applies 3 stacks of confusion for ~4 seconds. By spamming bombs, you’re only killing yourself. Maybe try grenades (snap + instant ground target to make it much friendlier) or the juggernaut flamethrower build.

One stole quickness the other took a single might, they don’t steal the whole stack.

It’ll take an entire stack of a single boon.

Difficulty Level of raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: IndigoSundown.5419

IndigoSundown.5419

Before raids came along I don’t recall a single person ever using the word “elitist” once and now I hear it several times a day.

You must not have been coming to these forums until recently, then. There was at least one post a week about exclusion in dungeons, and if the OP didn’t use the word elitist, another poster came along and used it soon after. I even recall the word being bandied about in discussions about “harder” open world content wherein some coordination is needed, like the Marionette fight in LW Season One. “Elitism” gets bandied about in games like this whenever someone is thwarted in getting into content which is to any degree “harder.”

On another matter… I think those claiming “anyone” can raid should spend more time in the open world. There are people being downed in fights like in Bloodstone Fen (Hablion, the Jade Bow + Armor and the Legendary Guardian). How likely are such people to do what it takes to succeed in content that is certainly “harder?”

We’re talking about not only a difference in skill, but also in mindset. A lot of GW2 players don’t have the mindset to raid. Now, my take on what that means is that they should accept that raids are not for them. However, the trend in gaming in general is more toward accommodating the masses while also throwing a bone to committed players. Thus, we see expectations that anyone should be able to raid with minimal commitment.

An Idea for Toughness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: IndigoSundown.5419

IndigoSundown.5419

PROS

  • Some of the people who want toughness to matter in one segment of the PvE game will be pleased. I say some because not all the people who want Toughness to be part of a dungeon/Fractals meta will be happy if its passive damage reduction as part of the Armor stat is removed.

CONS

  • Reducing everyone’s Armor stat across all game modes to the Defense stat on their armor will cause sweeping changes in PvP, WvW and, in PvE, for players who already use Toughness as it is currently intended. This could be partially solved by splitting stat functionality by game mode. However, Anet has shown little to no inclination to split functionality within modes, and there are PvE players who use Toughness as is. Further, not all professions have equal access to boons,so we’d see a universal benefit (Toughness’ passive damage reduction), replaced by a profession-limited benefit.
  • If the existing boons that Toughness would make better are not nerfed, then there would be no change in instanced content PuG metas. Those boons do the job as is, leaving them as is does not create a need, which seems to be the OP’s goal.
  • If the boons were nerfed in order to pave the way for the proposed new Toughness stat function to mean anything in PuG group instanced PvE metas, then we’re back to ANet having to split boon functionality by mode or live with the massive impact the change would have on sPvP and WvW.
  • There is already a stat, Concentration, which buffs boons by extending their duration. Does the game need another stat to buff boons? If it got one, there would be a massive shake-up in any game mode in which the changes took effect. Again, I’m leery about a universal benefit being replaced by a profession-limited one. We already hear about some professions being left out. The proposed changes would not reduce those complaints, and might make for more of them.

DISCUSSION POINTS

Dungeons (fractals specifically) seem to be the area the OP takes issue with. As long as any dungeon encounter requires players to kill mobs, the meta is going to insist that groups bring as much damage as the game allows. So, for the meta to shift to include Toughness, the content itself would have to change to make those enhanced boons be deemed necessary. What this means is that parties would now require a boon bot with Toughness. Again, since access to boons is nowhere near equal, only certain professions will be included as the new boon bot. What this would also mean is that parties which currently do fractals with off-meta comps would also need a boon bot. I don’t view that as a positive change to the game. Ommv.

Should ANet change the Floppy Fish?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

Second, no one is on a high horse. People are simply expressing their opinion.

Yes, and from what I have gathered people asking for the Floppy Fish to change are calling those wanting it to remain the same some manner of a Sadist.

It’s a ludicrous position to take, we’re talking about fish that doesn’t exist in the real world, of which is advertised as something magically abnormal and somehow at this late in the game they perceive it as ‘shocking’.

How much violence do you think is in this game? When you kill a Charr NPC with a fire-based attack, the death animation has the charr screaming as if it is being burned alive, flailing its arms trying to put out the flames. We also go kill Zombie enemies, with all the grotesque innards and limbs out in full view, some zombies don’t have eyes!

I am not saying they don’t have a right to an opinion, but given all the other things in this game that they haven’t spoken up about, the opinion that somehow a Floppy Fish is shocking and needs to be changed is outright disingenuous. I take into question the sincerity of the OP’s request. I am willing to be the OP is trolling everyone and managed to get some actual people who care about fish made of pixels.

Many people actually care about what happens in GW2. I see posts of people getting upset about certain stories, or angry, or sad. The pixels represent something, like any image. Of course it isn’t representing a real fish, but what I’m saying is that I don’t prefer to have any kind of image of a dying animal frequently or constantly around as a “fun” or “humorous” thing. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I don’t understand people who object to me stating it.

You pretty much only need a piece of gear to fit the 7th rune (since it replace the helmet, you only have 5 armor runes underwater). Especially if using travellers/speed.

I have characters with level 40 crap and 1 out of 2 underwater weapons slotted (which have 2 stack sigils) in WvW when full ascended otherwise, lol. Its just barely relevant in PvE, you need it a handful of times to clear mobs around channeled hero points.

So… the good news and the bad news are the same: both of those show substantial packet loss between your computer and your router, and also between your router and your ISP. Those first couple of hops.

That’s bad news, in the sense that it says the problem is with your network. That’s never fun.

The good news is that it also means that you can work directly to resolve it. Look to, eg, replacing the cable if this is wired, or reducing congestion or moving closer to the AP if wireless. That should help with the packet loss on the way to your modem.

You should also talk to your ISP about the packet loss, since that second hop is “their” equipment — the stuff between your modem and their network.

Finally, loading web pages is much less obviously hurt by packet loss at low levels. They just retransmit the information, and it takes a fraction of a second longer for the page to load. In an online game, though, you see delays in skill activation, rubber-banding and teleporting as the game resyncs state with the server, etc.

It’s also possible that the issue is some sort of throttling or packet filtering gone bad, in which case it only breaks GW2 (and similar games), but not so much other things. Again, this would be local to your network or ISP, and it’s definitely not the first place to start investigating.

GW1 combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

make 2 versions of the game or something , one as it is now and one with tab targeting that copies GW1 combat.
GW1 had one of the best (maybe the best combat) in mmo history along with Lineage 2 (games that you could play for hours) yet they decided to make GW2 different.

simplicity wins over complexity because mmos are not action games,
action games and those new mmos that wanna be action games are designed to spend players resources and energy and stresses you out while it had to be a relaxing yet challanging at times experience.

thats mmo games today simple things become complicated with skill point spam and everything even worst in newer games like black desert but GW2 also falls in that category.

just remove the dodge and copy GW1 combat instead of just focusing on making new expansions and let people pick which version of they wanna play.

dont even anyone say anything about your skills , skilled players where a thing before action combat plagued the games

Sometimes I wonder just what the OP is thinking when they make suggestions of this sort. Do they actually think that the Devs are going to close down making new content and expansions in this game for the years needed to make a second version with oldstyle combat?

Not only would this game come to a halt while they make a second version, they would then need to advertise and sell it and have a second dev team working on the new one making duplicate content, bug fixes and balancing. And does the OP actually think there are hordes of people who want to pay out $60 – $100 to buy a second version of guild wars 2 with old style combat? If oldstyle gw combat was that great they’d be pouring into the original game and playing it.

gw1 combat was great but they wanted to do something new besides you dont miss anything by making suggestions

No you don’t miss anything by making suggestions but some suggestions can be ruled out before they’re even made by thinking about them for a bit first. In particular, the person making a suggestion should consider how likely it is in terms of cost, time, effort and disruption to the game.

1) will it cost millions to make a second version of the game with old style combat?
- yes. The whole game would need to be redone. Not only the combat but the balance, just for starters. And then they’d need to hire more people to maintain the game so there’s that reoccurring cost that needs to be accounted for.

2) would it take years to do?
- yes, again the whole combat would need to be redone, including the npcs and mobs in the game for balance if nothing else.

3) would this version be able to go ahead with its regular content and expansions.
- no. The millions needed would either have to come out of the budget for this game (just like Gw1 stopped getting new expansions when they started gw2) or they’d have to borrow heavily to pay for making a new version. The costs (money, time, new Devs) of which would still impact this game as the Devs attempt to keep this game going while working on a brand new game.

3) would this new game recoup the costs?
- highly unlikely. A second gw2 would need to be heavily advertised ($$$$) and its advertisements and any money gained would compete with the advertisements and income of this game, which means that it would hurt the income for this game.

So yes, suggestions can be made but some suggestions fall into the realm of unrealistic fantasy.

thats ok too at least i send a message that the game is very action oriented for an mmo
in their future works they might have that in mind also.
if you never say anything you never achieve anything.

While you think that’s the message you’re sending, it’s not. What you’re OP should have said was what you just wrote, “the game is very action oriented for an mmo” followed up with examples. Instead what you wrote was, “just remove the dodge and copy GW1 combat instead of just focusing on making new expansions and let people pick which version of they wanna play.”

The first is a sensible statement which people can discuss and Anet can consider. The second is simply inane and not worth anyone’s time; it impedes discussion and people overlook your actual intent. Choose your words better if you want people to take your ideas seriously.

New Infinity Tools Op

If gathering from lots of nodes is part of your daily routine, and will continue to be so into the far future, the new infinite UM tools may be worth it.

If you don’t have gathering tools at all, the new infinite UM tools would be worth it.

For all other cases, it’s not worth it from a cost:value perspective. Players that casually gather from nodes won’t see much of an increase in UM. Those going out of their way specifically to gather more are wasting they time as Bitterfrost Frontier is more efficient and the 5-7 minutes it takes to run a character through the map would likely yield more than a player would earn during a day’s play session of gathering.

This is all from the aspect of getting a bonus from gathering. There are still more reasons to go for the other tools such as for animations or for those that are quicker. Alll of those, including the value of the bonuses, are subjective. What matters to one person won’t necessarily matter to another. Would everyone that values the new tools specifically because of the UM feel the same if it were broken spoons instead? How about blade shards? Probably not.

UI changes I'd like to see in game (Pictures)

Over the years of playing this game I talked to a bunch of people about the changes we’d like to see in game. A lot of people mentioned quality of life things, such as having a way to organize all your gizmos (tonics, balloons, instruments…) and preview certain things in game, for example auras. Not to mention the almost weekly “We need a key-ring! threads”.
The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of organization in the social tab. Friends list has all kinds of things wrong with it, and LFG being in the middle of it isn’t exactly intuitive.
The hero tab is way too cluttered. Gliders, minis and mail carriers have no business being in the middle of equipment.
Wardrobe is such a huge part of the game, it deserves its own tab, in the top left corner of the screen.
Achievements and masteries are also tucked in the Hero panel, but they’re account wide, so it would also make more sense for them to join the wardrobe in the top left corner.
That’s why I decided to do a little bit of Photoshopping. I’m not an expert at it by any means but I decided to have a little fun with it and visualize the changes that I’d like to happen.

What do you guys think?

Yup, that pretty much confirms some sort of network trouble. Teq probably shows it more than other things because it’s busier — and more models means more things for the server to report to the client so it can draw them.

Try following https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network and let us know where it shows the problem to be on the network between you and the server while doing Teq. I’d be interested to know.

If it turns out to be at the anet servers, a support ticket will get them looking at it — and if you file one, the first thing they ask for is exactly that set of diagnostics, so may as well skip the round trip on the ticket.
