So, basically, you want to make it harder for buyers and most sellers in order to decrease competition for the current TP barons? Or to make it easier for some sellers to scam the buyers?

No, thank you. I’ll pass.

Race-Change Item in Gem Store?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

It may be complicated to change race and keeping uncompleted progress of main story but if you finished it then I don’t see the complication. Choices you made in the main story have no effect on the rest of the content anyways.
So make it available for characters with max level that have finished their main story or reset it to beginning if you haven’t completed it. doesn’t matter.

Possible problems of this:

1- Would resetting your race/PS also reset rewards from the PS? If so here we go again with key farming except only for those who are spending gems. There is a total of 3 keys per char from PS + 1 from LS2 and 1 from HOT. So I am not just talking the lvl 10 quests here. Oh and I should have mentioned that atm ONLY the key from the lvl 10 story is limited to once per week.

So people would be able to simply change their race, do the PS and grab 3 keys from there, decide if they want to do LS2 (not worth it) or Hot as well for an extra 1 or 2. Reset race and repeat with only the lvl 10 quest key being missed due to the current one per weekly rule. Rinse and repeat. Not to also forget all the other rewards on top from these stories. Weapon skins, free exotics etc etc.

2 – You are overlooking the fact now with Living story stuff they ARE looking back at choices we made when we made our chars and even certain things we did in our PS. Example. I ran a new Norn Ele through the PS recently and then took him to HOT and did his story there. A certain NPC was still angry at him because he let her husband die in his PS.

I am sure there would be many, many small things like this that we are not even aware of that could all be effected by this. Even if anet were to catch them all before any kind of release of such a new feature I am sure the work would be immense for them.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Yep, 28 for each tier, 4 tiers = 112 pages. Theoretically possible in 28 days – you can get 4 pages a day by doing nightmare challenge mode, in addition to recommended, but requires 150 AR and a good group to clear 100 CM. Without that, it’s 38 days of recommended (37 1/3).

Mystic Coin needs more supply

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SlippyCheeze.5483

ArenaNet has already confirmed that supply is outpacing demand. The issue is that you don’t want to wait or buy them.

This statement is essentially the same as “there is a lot of money in the economy and the banks are flooded with cash, you just happen to be poor.”

I’m saying that there should be a way to actively farm this material, and thus allowing “hardworking” people to get more of them, instead of freely given to people who may not need them but get them anyway just by logging in, and yet never sells them because the price is expected keep going up.

There IS a method for a “hardworking” person to obtain more mystic coins, and the secret will blow your mind!

It’s this…

<drum roll>

Step one, do any dang thing you want in the game.

Step two, sell the loot you get for gold.

Step three, purchase mystic coins from the trading post for gold.

…and bam, your hard work got turned into more mystic coins! Magic!

Yes, I know, for whatever reason you think is entirely valid, “earn gold, buy coins” isn’t what you want to do. Either you want to directly farm them, for no really good reason other than “I prefer that”, or you imagine the farm will be less costly in terms of time than earning enough gold to get what you want.

…and it’s fine to say that, but seriously, don’t predicate your argument on “impossible” when it is absolutely, completely possible.

Kicking someone after the kill is plain griefing. Report it (Anet’s generally bad at acting against griefing, but sometimes they do take action).

If the commander was unsatisfied with OP, he should have kicked him before kill. Doing it after is really low (in addition to being something Anet said is an actionable behaviour).

SAB Closure Time

They should have left it in the game instead of making it a festival. I have not been playing a lot of GW2 lately and SAB was one of the things I did want to get into again, but have have been very busy lately, so did not manage to play. Now I am supposed to wait another year? It’s just yet another reason to lose interest in the game.

Making an upgrade to it every year would be a good idea. But having it only available once a year is a terrible idea. But what did Anet? They made it available once a year without an upgrade.

Random Acts of (Kindness)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I got the idea for this thread from several observations. The main one being my own behavior in this forum. While I am generally a very kind person, this forum as with many I have been a part of, can bring out my smart kitten side pretty quick. When I stepped back and evaluated that, I came to the conclusion that I was being overly judgmental of others that play the game.

Yes there are a lot of posts I don’t agree with or that I think are just plain ridiculous. However, in real life if I hear someone say something in public that I think is stupid I don’t get into some debate over why I think what they said was wrong. I just go about my business and often think to myself that I hope they have a better day. I don’t care for constant complaining but it really gets too much when I find myself complaining about complaints.

So reflecting on all these posts I have been involved in and, admittedly rude at times, I started thinking about the person on the other side of the screen that I can’t see. I thought about how I felt as I purchased and downloaded the game. How excited I was once the install was complete and when I first made my first character. So then I thought about this other mysterious person living in wherever and I imagined they felt the same as I at one point. I started thinking that this is a real person that wakes up everyday just like me and they want to have a good day which in many cases means enjoying the game.

The thing about the Internet, and I found this out early during the USNET years, is that since you can’t see that person you forget that they have feelings as well. It’s easy to forget that maybe they just had a bad day and an unpleasant gaming experience later in the day was kind of the final straw leading to rage posting on the boards. It’s easy to forget that when they click the login button they want to have fun also. It’s the reason for playing a game and people like to have fun.

So where am I going with this? I thought it would be a good idea to brain storm some random acts of (kindness) in game to maybe make that random person smile for a second, maybe make their day a little better.

Here are a few things I have done:

*When I see a player that is obviously new and low level running around lost, I help them for a minute. Then later on I mail them a few coins and or maybe a piece of armor they could use. I simply write “Welcome to GW2” and attach the coin/item. I imagine as a new player something like that might give them a brief smile.

*If I see a downed player in PvE I rez them and if they are not down leveled I mail them some coin with a note that says, “Thought you could use some coin to help with your repairs.”

*I shadow obvious new players and only jump in if they get in a real dicy situation then disappear and do it again for a bit.

*I’m maxed on cooking skill so when I get low level cooking mats that don’t sell for much I’ll just mail them to some random name I see in my area with a note that says,“I bet you are hungry after all your travels.”

*I haven’t done this yet but I think once a day when I see some negative posts here I’ll just send one of those people that are unhappy some small gift. Something that has been in my bank and I will never use or sell. (Disclaimer: Please don’t start posting negative threads just to have a chance at a prize. )

Anyway, these are the main things I do but I’m looking for more and hope others will share ideas and participate. The thought isn’t to give your bank away but just some small token of (kindness) that might just make someone think, “That was nice.” even if just for a minute.

tl;dr
I’ve been rather rude here at times and I apologize. I’m really a pretty decent person in real life. I think most here on both sides of arguments are as well. The idea is fun and to some degree I am guessing when everyone logs in each day the idea is to add something pleasant to their day. So let’s help random people out with that.

Please share other ways myself and others might just send our own little “token” to random players as a way of saying in game, “Hope you are having a good day.”

P.S. (kindness) due to overly aggressive language filter.

Nice idea but it wouldn’t work. You would literally need an entire server within the megaserver to do that. Impossible for you to be in a map on hard more while others aren’t in hard mode within the same map. Therefore you would need an entire server for it. Not happening ever. They could revamp core maps and add more flavor since people think it’s all too easy and unimpactful there.

Feels like you’re just scared your guild won’t be able to grow since it’s mediocre at everything and if people had 10 guild slots or more they’d just join specialized guilds and yours will suffer.

You write these long wall of texts that make no sense using words that make sense individually but together mean nothing.

Maybe if you don’t want to be used as a glorified LFG don’t join or make a 500 man guild, there’s no way you can create the level of socialness like a small guild with such a big guild.

All the guilds I’m in would not hurt wrt social building at all if more slots were added because I wouldn’t suddenly stop being friends with them just because I have more guild slots.

WTB actual balance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

I really just want balance, like every other player in the game. Get rid of power creep too. skills do not need to hit that hard. Above all just give us more GOSH DARN balnce patches…please.

You will get much, much better responses to this request if you do a few small things:

First, don’t simply state that balance is “bad” as if it was fact: bring your proof. Show the numbers you have showing that, eg, some things underperform and others overperform, as well as the situations and support around those numbers.

Without that you are in a position where the developers — who you assert are doing a terrible job of this right now — are going to have to gather that. If they really are so bad at doing it, and they do it again, why would we expect a different outcome?

Second, bring concrete suggestions, not just statements that assume “everyone” can tell what you mean when you say, for example, “power creep”, or that “skills” don’t need to hit that hard.

Which skills do you mean? How do they fail — is it just too bursty, but balanced if you spread the same damage over ten seconds? Is it painful unless you have resistance or condition cleanses, or just too powerful in all circumstances?

Is this specific to some game modes, like PvP or WvW, or is it universal? Is it only PvE content?

Finally, it would help if you explained why you think “more” balance patches would improve the situation: I can fill in my own ideas of why you might think that, but … it’s your argument, and you probably want your ideas of why in the developers heads when they think about this, not their own, right?

Why take SAB away?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

I really hate it when people try to justify removing SAB.
Look if you guys are bored of it then stop playing it. Let the rest of us enjoy the content or descover the content at our convenience. I barely got to play SAB and it’s about to go offline in just 2 days! This is not my fault cause reall life obligations and priorities come first. I don’t need hype to enjoy SAB whenever I want. I play when I’m in the mood and when I have time in real life. If people get bored of SAB they can play other content and when they feel like playing some SAB with their friends they can go whenever they want. This is the benifit of making it permenant cause everyone wins.

But that’s not what would happen. Even now the SAB entrance area is deserted compared to the first 3 days.

Here is what actually would happen if SAB became permanent:

- first week massive overcrowding as with every time the event went live
- second week up to 4th week the amount of people playing SAB declines
- 3 months in SAB is a completely deserted place
- Arenanets interest (which is already below minimal) would stop adding any content for a dead game mode

I understand your sentiment and get that real life priorities can get in the way and some times there just is no time for gaming. That does not justify to go against common sense which in this case dictates: scarcity creates value and hype.

Being an adult yourself (I assume due to commitments) you should know by now that when you can have something all the time, it will lose its value. So as far as an alternate, fun, minimalistic game mode this staying a festival makes the most sense.

I’ve never understood how people can use the “everyone wins” argument after it’s explained to them how not everybody will win. You may choose to keep yourself ignorant of the truth, you may choose to ignore what’s been said by the devs, but that doesn’t make it any less true:

SAB is a hack, and will break as the devs update the game and its engine. They’re not going to spend development time ensuring that it will continue to work all year long; that would be them operating at a loss.

Should GW2 Have an "Offline" Mode?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

You know, I was gonna answer everyone’s concerns and points but there’s so much salt, sarcasm, and “LOL OP is dum” responses in here that I lost all ability to care. Nevermind.

It does, in a way. Log on, and open your contact list in-game, then click the online status dropdown box next to your name and set yourself to Invisible.

Then go play the game as you normally would. Players will not be able to whisper or chat with you and you won’t see guild messages appear in guild chat. Don’t party up with anyone and ignore any other players you may encounter. There you go; single player GW2.

Seriously though, why redesign the game from the ground up when you can already play the vast majority of the game alone? If it’s strictly due to a lack of a solid internet connection in your area, then I apologize—I know that struggle all too well, as I’m sure many of us do. If so, then you have my sympathies, friend.

This is indeed one way of doing things but it unfortunately still doesn’t answer some problems that a full offline mode would. While I do have a decent enough internet connection to play online, other people do not as you have mentioned, so that is also a problem.

-

I apologize to everyone who replied like an actual adult.

No you wouldn’t have. The main reason people reacted the way they did is most were probably amazed at the idea (and lack of understanding what this actually incorporates on your side).

The game is designed from the ground up as a MMO game which essentially means most of the AI is server side, many of the more important mechanics are handled server side as well (say gliding for exmaple until they made it client side with server side checks).

Having an essentially private server setup for people would vastly increase the ability of people to hack and reverse engineer the game, not to mention they would effectively be degrading their own MMO world and reducing server population even further giving sway to even more “is this game dying” arguments.

Simple adult answer to your question: No GW2 should not have an offline mode because the effort to implent is to high, the design of most of the game is for a MMO, the drawbacks far outweigh the benefits.

Djinn.9245

Yes, please. Also for Vistas. The game has the coordinates; we should get them too (even if only as a linkable location).

You can already link vistas; unfortunately, ctrl+clicking on the map doesn’t work. However, the wiki provides the chat-links on each sector’s page, e.g. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blighted_Depths shows the chat-link [&BOUIAAA=] for the vista there. (The wiki’s vista names are unofficial and are intended to describe what the vista shows.) So while it’s not exactly convenient, it is possible.

(In the API, PoIs, waypoints, and vistas are all subtypes of the “point_of_interest” category of map markers (PoIs themselves are called “landmarks” in the API), so it makes sense that they all function similarly with regards to chat-links.)

You shouldn’t have to go outside the game to link a point inside the game. You should be able to shift + click any map marker to put a link to it in chat.

Remove the Trib mode from Decor Achievement!

Reading this thread, I couldn’t help but chime in about jumping and reaction time, etc.

Internet speed and lag do affect performance, of course. Your computer and age can be a factor sometimes, too. I started playing this game 4+ years ago on a MacBook and I’d be lying if I said that building a gaming computer didn’t have any effect on my jumping abilities. I get the age thing, too, because I’m over 50. I don’t sPvP because I can’t go head-to-head with the reaction times of young brains.

that being said

The two things that totally changed my jumping puzzle abilities even on my old computer were making sure I was steering with my mouse and, most crucially, turning down the rotation speed in my game settings as low as it would go. My precision and control improved immediately. After that, it was just repetition to figure out the flow and patterns.

I’ve shared the rotation speed tip with frustrated Wintersday jumpers and they said it made an enormous difference. My husband swears by this, too. The change was like night and day for him and he went from frustrated to farming holiday puzzles and adeptly running trib mode with me.

Just maybe something to try.

Remove the Trib mode from Decor Achievement!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

I think the primary question should be, how gated should the decor achievement be?

Is it supposed to be available to everyone as a nice gimmick for the guild hall?
→ yes, remove the trib 1-1 shop. no reason to argue if or how hard it is. fact is, it will be unobtainable to a big part of the playerbase

Is it supposed to be a hardcore achievement for only the most dedicated?
→ add required shops to every trib zone

Is it supposed to be an introduction and added incentive to have people try tribulation mode?
→ fine as is.

Personally I’m fine with number 1. Cosmetic guild items should be available to everyone I think as far as limited time events go.
