I thought the “salty” parts were funny too. I didn’t find them mean spirited at all.

It just shows that they are human. Also it shows the community that some things are in the game for a reason and constant complaining about it will not change things.

So I wouldn’t say those comments were mean but rather ironic.

Perm Gathering tools Easier access for Alts

SlippyCheeze.5483

There is a way to have the gathering tools on all your characters. You have to buy them for all your characters.

Or you purchase the shared inventory slots, and keep them in there for easy access on all your characters.

They make more money this way.

FWIW, while “money” is likely a factor in how the folks at anet who implement this think about it, it is absolutely not the dominating factor. That is “fun”, eg: what do they know, and believe, will enhance the game and make it more fun for everyone.

(Except the gem store content team, who have the day job “literally make stuff to sell on the gem store”, for whom “will it sell” is a primary consideration.)

Also you may have town clothes still sitting on various alts. What you want to do is take each alt in turn to the armor trader at a TP in a major city. The npc will offer to convert town clothes for you. This will turn them into armor skins in some cases (eg if you have the baseball cap from game launch) or tonics in others (eg the old cultural clothing like the human male vest/shirt/trousers). The tonics are sucky, you don’t get to pick which pieces go with which — the hoodie now has jodhpurs attached — and you can’t dye them, use them in combat, or even make them last longer than 15 minutes at a time. But at least your cherry blossom shirt or your hoodie isn’t totally gone forever. The tonics can be sold on the TP if you don’t care for them yourself.

Is theif really that bad DPS in raids?

No. Thief is fine, both condi and power are fine.

Maybe they ask you to change class because of personal preferences or ignorance, either way it’s their group so w/e.

Agreed.

Some people get some fixed ideas about what is needed to succeed in raids. Other players realize it’s more about understanding the mechanics and are more flexible.

Although, to be fair: leading a random group in raids is uniquely frustrating. I have sympathy for those looking to simplify their herding-of-cats and increase their likelihood of success, even if they sometimes misunderstand how best to go about it, e.g. like kicking profs that have competitive DPS.

its also a case of “bring the class, not the player”

My SAB experience so far

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ShinjoNaomi.1896

You’re missing the point entirely most of us me included have seen and played the 2 first world 3 and 4 are yet to come, and because of empty promises we get 1 and 2 over and over and over again and every year it comes out on April fools day and the joke is on you the player who takes the bait!!!

Have fun out there and don’t forget your fishing rod.

“empty promises”?

I don’t ever remember SAB being promised at all, especially in the game manifesto at launch or before launch. In fact the whole thing was a total surprise (a nice one indeed) when it was released and if I recall was the work of one individual in his spare time while his main game projects were finished.

If you mean because there are 2 extra doorways that COULD eventually at some time be added on to. If this is what you are taking as “empty promises” I guess you and I have two very different views as to what “empty promises” are.

Really I just don’t get some people. SAB was given to us FREE as a fun BONUS yearly event and people still are not happy. Sure you may have played it up to your eyeballs and may want MORE MORE MORE right now. But lets be realistic here. Sometimes things just never come or they take time.

I mean sure when a new oh I don’t know say Final Fantasy game comes out and I beat it right away sure I may want the next one right now but I just know that’s not gonna happen lol…

Don’t even make me mention the FF7 remake, just knowing that it is going to be broken up into parts…..now that example right there, I COULD be justified in moaning but, no, just no and this is off topic anyway lol.

Its strange that there are buildings marked world 3 and 4 when neither are planned to be released any time soon and they’ve been there for how long? In particular to new players. I wasn’t playing GW2 until the middle of last year so this is my first SAB and I was all excited to hop into world 3 after finishing w2 but both buildings are just aesthetic. It wouldn’t take more than just a moment to remove these two buildings and save them for later when the dev releases those worlds.

And it takes even less time to not remove them and just keep them there until such time as they maybe might have time to make Worlds 3 and 4.

SAB is what it is… An amusing little diversion that has become an annual thing.
You can either enjoy it for that, or be completely miserable in what it isn’t.

New Cat (SPOILERS)

in Living World

Posted by: Rikimaru.7890

Rikimaru.7890

The new cat is inside SAB world 2:2, at the top of the pagoda with the huge gong we need to use proceed. It appears like a hybrid of a bulldog and a bee at first glace. You need to feed it a piranha just like the octopus. However this is no easy task as you need to go back quite a bit to get one, so best thing to do is clear your path first then go back and grab a piranha. Remember that they try to jump out of your hands after a while, it won’t hurt you but it will knock you back. Which is dangerous because you will have to carry it over a section where you jump over small platforms, so if it does knock you back you fall down and have to start over. Best idea is to drop the piranha yourself thus you avoid the knockback, then you can hit it and pick it back up again.
So tactic is really simple – move a bit, drop fish, hit fish, pick up again and move a bit again.

Once you get the cat it will appear “normal” when you find it in your home instance. Although not entirely, for starters it has the title "Honors in Applied Jumping " which you can see if you target it, it also has a small aura of pixels eminating from it.
But apart from that it looks “normal” or does it? No actually it doesn’t, it has a unique dark yellow color and very dark stripes so it differs from the orange cats, it also has a very short tail as if someone cut it off and only a small piece remains.
So why is that you ask? Very simple it’s because of it’s SAB look which is a bulldog/bee hybrid. It is colored same as a bee and has a very short tail like a bulldog.
Here take a look if you like, I also added an orange cat for comparison:

EDIT: Since people are asking about it – yes you can get it on Infentile mode, that’s the mode I got it on. However the thing is Infentile mode does a shortcut which omits that part of the level. So while it will get you past a huge part easy, after a while you will have to take a detour where there are no clouds to help you. Of course enemies will drop a lot of food on this mode. The part you have to do is right after the ninja who you need to defeat to gain the glove skill. I’ll show you on a screenshot – on the right you can see a cloud path which allows you to skip this part (over there where there is a hand pointing to the right), however you need to proceed with what is on the left i.e. the bulding with the blocks you move with the glove. So yes you can do it on Infentile mode but the JP to reach the new “cat” with the piranha remains the same as on Normal mode.

PSA: If you have Kaiser Weapon Box

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Turtle Dragon.9241

If you have Kaiser Weapon Boxes from last year like me, that you did not open because you could not decide which Kaiser weapons to get back then, they have now been changed to Super Adventure Weapon Box(which gets the choice of a Kaiser Weapon or 8 Crimson Assassin Tokens).

This means that if you still have said unopened Boxes, you get to pick up to 16 Crimson Assassin Tokens immediately, and get to even choose a 2h Crimson Assassin Weapon.
(So please, dont call people hackers if you see them with Crimson Assassin Weapons, thank you).

Note that this also means you are renouncing to your Kaiser Weapons of choice from last year, but you can buy those from TP for a “affordable” price all year round, compared to Crimson Assassin Weapons which are Account Bound.

General Profession Topic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

The purpose of every profession is to be able to adventure in Tyria. Every profession is intended to be able to be used in every part of the game though, notably, not every single trait, trait line, or utility skill is necessarily going to be usable everywhere — though they should all have value somewhere, for someone, in achieving that goal.

I assume you omitted a word in “get a monk/dedicated [healer] in the game?”, since it fits in context and … you have three, actually, at least, and really, another few that can definitely help out. Ele, Rev, and Druid all contribute significant healing and party support. Other classes can certainly bend to the purpose, though often not as flexibly.

It is probably safer to conclude that a healing and support oriented build for every profession is desirable than that a “dedicated healer and nothing else” is desired, since each of them is available on top of an existing class that also has “tanky”, and “damage oriented” builds available.

Finally, while you might not agree with the design of the elite specs on all classes … others are fine with them, so I’d strongly suggest this is one of those “matter of personal taste” questions, in which there is no right or wrong answer, just different things that different folks like.

I get that you love SAB, but it’s not a primary, nor even a secondary part of the game. It’s a festivallish minigame with no bearing to the game itself. As it stands, anet has shown that they struggle with the resources to keep up with the primary game and secondary components of the game. So I’m glad they won’t prioritize a tertiary part of the game for the sake of ‘fun’ if it would cost on the quality of the prior. Maybe the next expansion will generate a lot of revenue so they can afford to mess around with tertiary components of the game.
by primary I mean story: Orr, LS1, LS2, HoT, LS3
and by secondary I mean fractals and raids. (And maybe the current events)
Tertiary would be the minigames in LA, as well as SAB, halloween and wintersday.

As for me, I’ve managed to again get some in-game time due to most family health concerns having passed for now. Once I clean up the huge mess I left my TP orders in, as well as take inventory (bad memory is bad), I will go back through these new pages and help with desires where I am able before going back to older ones. (As I am still without HoT, I regret that I cannot help with the many desires related to it. My apologies on that.) One thing I am happy to help with any time I am on is that I have also returned to helping provide ports in the Southsun JP and for anything needed within the Not So Secret Aetherblade JP. If anyone is need of assistance with those, just message me in-game.

Happy and safe adventuring, both in-game and out, to you all!

Stop trying to catch someone by their words – designer, programmer – might be even Jesus himself – if he would be Anet dev-team member name wouldn’t matter.

We all know that instead of finishing stuff they started back in 2012 and early 2013 they do 10000000 other things with money as a focus.

EOT.

You’re the one upset that Anet isn’t finishing the rest of the worlds and then blaming it on the gen store items which have little to do with it.

What “10000000” things did they not do in 2012 and 2013 that are a result of the gem store?

I’m not sure what you mean about creating a lot of noise in the rest of the world either. SAB is completely self-contained, if you don’t go to Rata Sum and walk into the box you will never see any of it. So it’s less disturbing to the rest of the world than other festivals like Wintersday and Halloween that change at least some of the main maps.

So serious raiders would be unhappy to complete thier normal run and a easier run a week for another subset of loot? This aint the 12 ap aday dailies that they have to keep up with mate.

Experience from WoW says, yes, they will absolutely complain about that. Sufficiently so, in fact, that Blizzard changed their approach and made the various difficulties lock each other out, which also provoked a storm of complaint.

GW2 isn’t WoW, but we can probably learn from the experience they had trying the various permutations of how you handle difficulty levels, and how you make raiding more accessible.

Oh I dident realise all the raiders wanted was a title… Slap on the legendary hot raider and release all the loot from raids elsewere then.

haha, yeah. no, but what a large enough proportion of raiders want is “recognition”. You can see the same thing come up when anything sufficiently rare is talked about, or made more accessible.

For example, once legendary items in WoW required raiding, but they became more accessible over time. People complained bitterly this destroyed the value of them, because now “unworthy” people could have them. Same deal, basically, with raid titles and other exclusive raid things.

(Heck, look at the complaints when people noticed you could sell the raid minis on the market in GW2 — “only raiders should have access to them!!!” cries abound.)

Well I done lfr resently in wow, no scorn there they dont even bother to kick afk people just burn through the bosses and share loot with who ever needs it.

Yeah, LFR itself isn’t that bad, though sometimes you get people raging. What you experience, though, is after multiple generations. Do you remember what it was like when you could get tier pieces that worked with the normal/heroic mode tier set from LFR? Oh, gosh, much saltier.

The change to LFR-specific tier-ish gear, without much concrete mechanical advantage, was a big part of how Blizzard reduced the pain and agony, by making it much less rewarding for a normal or better tier raider to enter LFR at all.

Solution: nearly every major MMO offers difficulty levels. It’s totally normal. As typical as for Anet of course they don’t offer them and that’s why we all have all those little annoying things. There are easy tasks in the raid you can do, but I still understand all the people who don’t want to do it and even can’t fill their mastery level. It’s not really customer friendly.

Difficulty levels would solve so many raid-related problems – it is baffling that the devs have been so resistant to implementing them.

The problems are, as always, people problems — not a technical ones. You can’t solve that with technology, no matter how hard you wish you could. (and, I assure you, the anet developers will feel that as much as you do.)

Setting aside the fact that this is, in fact, a thing which exists, in the form of the challenge mote for now, we can focus on the idea of multiple difficulty levels in raids:

Do they reward the same amount of loot? If so, players will — being human — naturally gravitate to the easier difficulty, and the harder will be disregarded and, essentially, wasted. Only a tiny minority of players will ever bother with challenge for the sake of challenge, compared to those who will take what they see as the most efficient route to completion.

(Want proof? Look no further than the threads talking about the raid “meta” and the difficulties of raiding without following it. Those are, exclusively, players gravitating to, vs resisting, what is seen as the “path of least resistance.”)

Do they reward loot proportional to some approximation of the challenge required to complete them? If so, does completing “easy” lock out loot for “difficult”? If your answer to the second is “no”, then players will complaint about feeling “compelled” to complete both, in order to keep up. Even without the gear based power gain of other MMOs, you still gate the speed of acquisition of legendary armor on this.

(Also note: do achievements complete in both modes, or are they separate? In the former case, easy mode is the desirable path for legendary armor, if not, you have provided a nice mechanism for “link <think> or kick” in pugs…)

Also, in terms of loot, if you mismanage the conversion — estimate “easy” as 1, and “hard” as 2, but actually turn out to be 1:3, or 2:3, in whatever metric the players latch on to in terms of assessing this, and you suddenly have a “good” mode and a “not enough rewards” mode. Ouch.

Also of note: the wide variety of loot and fame options tied to different levels of raiding in WoW, as they experimented, did not in any way dent elitism. “Looking For Raid” difficulty was scorned as the domain of casuals, and generated enormous amounts of complaint about having to carry them when it had rewards seen as necessary for more serious raiding.

Similarly, people were treated as poorly in PUGs for LFR-only experience, etc, and players still demanded appropriately “you must worship me, peon” perks, titles, achievements, etc, to properly gratify them that they were recognised by the community is definitely better than people who didn’t play through the same difficulty level as them.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t actually solve the problems, it just moves them around a bit to different areas.
