Here’s some additional advice for you. While part of raiding is about skill, builds, gear, etc., there’s also the social aspect that mustn’t be ignored. Assuming you join an already established guild or static group as the 10th member, there’s probably already an understanding amogst the 9 people of what type of attitude they expect out of their raid team.

Some groups will demand perfection because they like to push limits and demonstrate what high skill groups can do. Others might be just learning so they eliminate any variables by demanding meta builds. And then there’s the groups who are comfortable running whatever they want because they’ve mastered the encounters and don’t care about speed runs.

Ensure that, whatever group you’re joining, aligns with your expectations of what an ideal raid experience is. Also note that groups will tend to be more lenient with what you run after they’ve gotten more comfortable with you. Showing the willingness and capability of swapping to something meta should the runs start going south will also go a long way.

The alternative is to simply start your own group so you can set the rules. Good luck!

Raid Normal/Hard Mode

It would only remove skill if it were the only option. By offering multiple tiers – through the idea of motes (which they have said they are open to using in raids) – it doesn’t remove anything at all. It just extends a new experience to more players.

And it extends the development cycle for raids. They already have one of the longest of any content right now.

On contrary, they have one of the shortest development cycles of any side content in this game (which, due to their exclusivity, they are). And it’s even shorter than development cycles for some of the main game modes (like WvW).

What is side content? What is main content? But if we consider Story and open world the main focus of PvE, the only other ‘side content’ would be fractals, which also get regular updates every LS update now. Last raid update was 8 months ago.

I wouldn’t say Fractals are a side comment. As they took dungeons’ place in the game, they are something meant for most of the players to do (though, of course, not necessarily at higher fractal difficulties). Raids on the other hand are not meant for everyone. Quite the opposite. As such, you can’t really expect Anet to put the same development importance on them, as they do for LS, for example.

(unless of course the initial assumption is wrong and they are meant to be far more of a mainstream content – in which case Anet really would need to work on their accessibility to the majority of players)

TL/DR; if you want them to stay as exclusive as they are now, you should be content with them being a sideshow only (and thus developed more slowly). If you want them to be something more important to the game (and thus developed at faster pace), you should expect changes to difficulty and general accessibility.

(also, Anet does things in waves and bursts. Don’t expect for Fractal development rate to hold on for long – as soon as they will end those that are in the current pipeline, we’ll likely have a cooldown period again. Which may also last a year or longer. Raids they seem to do in waves containing one full raid. They were coming at an extremely fast rate during Forgotten Thicket development, for example)

It is not about raids getting faster developed. It is about not adding development time to appeal to people that are not the target audience.
Raids are niche content produced by a small team. If you want difficulty levels be willing to sacrifice other content for those.

I don’t think unique tools or duo tool sets are an inconsistency at all. Let alone a “huge inconsistency” that is “becoming a problem”. It can easily be seen as intended.

I see it no different than unique weapons, those aren’t a “problem” either.

Question about future expansions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

Besides, they have likely learned a lesson, and thus will probably include some goodies (like, again, a new character slot) to owners of the previous paid versions. This will likely satisfy veterans enough.

But why a new character slot? We can be pretty sure that there will be no new classes but only e-specs and they have said time and time again that they don’t want to include new races because it’s too much work an, apparently, doesn’t add enough game wise.

Several reasons.
1. it’s a “goodie” most commonly associated with expansion (due to gw1 history). Veterans will most likely either expect it, or at least not be surprised with it.
2. It’s something aimed primarily at veterans (new players are far less likely to need additional character slots)
3. It is just good enough that most players will accept it, but not so good that it would cause loud protests from those that won’t get it. (let’s face it, Anet is unlikely to offer something really valuable there)
4. and while there won’t be any new classes, there will be new elite specs. At least some people will make separate chars for them (unless, of course, they will be so OP that using core/current elites for anything will not be an option, which is a worry worthy of a separate thread)

Sugg- Skill Color Customization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

OriOri.8724

I would love this level of customization but I doubt we will get it.

For one, it would require that all skill animations be redone with a palette where we are allowed to pick the colors in it (or even just pick one of a few predefined palettes). For another, GW2 gave each class their own color scheme for their skills, and this would negate that. I personally think that the class color schemes are really kittening cool and would miss them a lot if people were allowed to customize their skills colors

I think they just need to put a big sign at the entrance to every HoT map explaining what LFG is and how to use it. But in the mean time, I’ll help you out:

The chak gerent occurs every 2 hours on the half hour. Check LFG 15-20 minutes before it begins to find a map that is organizing for the meta.

Why do you have to do it this way? At any given time there are multiple instances of the map running. If you just hang out for hours chances are pretty good that you won’t be lucky enough to be on a map that is organizing for the meta and it will appear to you that nobody ever does the meta even while it actually gets completed routinely – just not on the map instance you happen to be on.

We have received several reports of players participating in activities that are detrimental to the accuracy and fair competition of the Leagues Season 5 leaderboards. After conducting an investigation of the current leaderboards, we’ve decided to take action against a number of accounts. These accounts will be removed from the leaderboard and restricted from playing in rated arenas for the remainder of the season.

Season 6 will have changes to help ensure the leaderboard is accurate and fosters healthy competition. We are excited for the final days of Season 5 to see what people achieve!

Daily AP is capped at 15,000. Any AP from the monthlies, if you played back then, count towards that cap.

There is a cap of 15,000 AP for daily and now-defunct monthly achievements combined. Once the cap is reached, additional points from the “Daily Completionist” meta achievement will no longer increase the account’s achievement points, but individual reward bonus chests will still be given out.

As you stated above report them and let Anet sort it out. Here is a post from Anet about this issue since you asked:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Please-a-clear-statement-re-AFK-farming/page/6#post6161450

I’ll pitch in on this thread, as there seems to be some confusion about this situation.

The auto-cast feature was never intended to be used as an AFK farming mechanism, and usage of the auto-cast feature while AFK is fine as long as it is not used to facilitate unattended gameplay.

Mastery auto-loot also stopping players from being flagged afk seems like a bug instead of a feature, and I’ll be sure to bring it up today while we have a chat about this internally.

1) Using skill (1 or more) while AFK
2) AFKing in a place where it is beneficial for your character to be at
3) Unresponsive to interaction with GMs

If all 3 of these apply to what you are doing, you may get actioned for it.

There are several other Anet staff posts in the thread I linked. I’m just to lazy to quote them all.

Two or three days ago I was working on Chupa&Champawat 3, which among other things requires a successful DS. I did a couple other collection things, then noticed DS was due to start in three minutes. (I both use the timers and know that until the spring time change DS is always half past the even hour my time, eastern).

So I wp’d into DS, checked LFG, found a taxi with 30+ people in it, joined, and joined the commander’s map shortly before the mass reset. We were a bit short of tag volunteers so I tagged to lead north and since we had a couple of new folks in the squad I took a little time to explain the must-know mechanics of each section.

And proceeded to happily chant to myself “I love this squad!” as everything melted in our path. Every event was done with time to spare. The whole map moved along smooth as I’d ever seen. No problems at the towers, the first burn on the Mouth took 75% of its health and it was finished second burn.

The key here was: I went to the map just before reset, I joined a squad, I moved to that squad’s map. I don’t recall ever getting in a failed map while following those steps, though sometimes I have found myself unable to join my squad due to full maps, which is why I endeavor to be in the commander’s map even before reset. That increases my chances of being in his/her map as things get started.

intel i5 7300hq vs intel i7 6700

SlippyCheeze.5483

Short answer is “whichever is in a laptop with better cooling”, followed by “smallest number of CPU cores”.

Long answer:

Cooling matters a great deal in laptops, to avoid thermal throttling, since they have lower overall TDP and necessarily have worse cooling than desktop or server systems. Obviously, this can be pretty hard to measure the difference, but a reasonable rule of thumb is “pretty usually means worse cooling”, with the exception of Apple laptops and their nice all-metal all-radiator design.

To the second, GW2 is mostly single-threaded, so it benefits most from better single core performance. While all Intel CPUs scale up core speed as they shut down other cores, the general rule is “more cores == slower cores”, so 4 cores >>> 6 >>> 8 cores for this.

(and while they do use less cores and run faster when your 8 core thing is under single core load, imperfect heat distribution means there is a limit to how much it can do.)

Yah, this. It is always worth remembering that devs love closing these little annoying things off. So, if it really was that simple they would totally have done it. (Plus, solving lots of little things is good for the heart, and the performance review.)

How do I go about choosing a Realm???

GW2 uses what they call mega servers. This means that players from all servers in the same region, either NA or EU, play together on merged PvE maps. The only thing that really matters for server aside from region is WvW where players are locked into playing on the server they selected for their account (although you can pay for a sever transfer later if you don’t like the server you are on for WvW). You can view a list of servers and where they rank in WvW following the leaderboard link under the “Community” link at the top of the page. Please note that many of the top severs in WvW are often full but if you are interested in playing WvW this might help you make a decision.

For more information you may find this article on the GW2 wiki helpful.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World

The wiki is very helpful overall for most things GW2 related as it is a great resource for new and experienced players.

OP, the point of threads is for discussion. Arguments will always be present in threads that voice opinion especially negative ones. So if you’re asking for people to stop arguing what’s the point of this thread other than stating opinion? I mean what if every GW2 player posted their thoughts and said “everyone support my thread pls and agree with me” then the thread might as well be locked because there’s no room for discussion…

¯\(?)

As for the topic, I can’t say for sure but I feel like GW2 is quite the opposite. Current Events for PvE, PvP updates, 5-6 egendaries a year, 5-6 new LS3 chapters a year, Fractals, Raids are all in the works.

Hi all,

We’re wrapping up work on Episode 4 of Living World Season 3 and expect to launch it in February, hitting our normal cadence of a new episode every 2~3 months. I want to give a quick heads-up here on a few topics that I know the community is anticipating, things that will and won’t be bundled with this episode.

This release will include the promised fix to AB multi-looting. The fix is simple: you can loot each of the great and grand chests once each time you complete the meta, once per map cycle.

This release will also include a new, challenging group-farming spot for leather.

This release won’t include legendary armor. We’re getting close to completion, though, and may be able to ship legendary armor with the Ep5 release.

This release won’t include a skill balance update. As we did last time, we’ll ship the next skill balance update off-cycle from Living World releases.

Can someone please translate what happened in this round:

1 close 1 animal 1 far rest mid
ok ok i say i am mid coz far is noob
burt map say i am 1 mid rest animal no close no far
and i die hard lol

But yeah overall this post made the entire Dec 10 patch seem insignificant XD

Translation:
“At the initial strategy phase of the game I joined, I presented the following plan to my fellow teammates: ‘Dear sirs, would one of you kindly cover the closest point, and then another person attack the nearest NPC type beast for the point bonus, and finally, would the rest of you accompany me to engage the enemy at the middle point?’

However, to my distress, I found myself bereft of assistance when I went to the middle point and when I looked to find where my team was located, I found them all attacking the NPC beast. Not a single person had even decided to attempt in capturing either the point closest to our starting point, nor the farthest!

As a result of this ill fortune, I stood no chance to the overwhelming odds I faced as the enemy advanced upon my position, and I was struck down. Sadly, the game ended up as a loss."

First off, I’d like to thank you for your efforts in broadening the cultural horizons of our day-to-day forum goers. That said, I believe that much of the raw emotion that lives within the original narrative is lost in this translation.

While your version is much more accessible for the everyday reader, I truly hope that they become captivated by the thematic undercurrents and take the time to fully understand the piece in its original form.

Confusion Bug?

What’s your build (specifically, traits)? The thief is dropping 5 stacks of confusion on you from the steal trait, and I notice the only skill you actively activate is the auto-attack, but from https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Confusion :

“Confusion damage is applied on every skill activation, whether activated manually or automatically. For example, necromancers will take confusion damage when they create a Mark of Blood after dodging while equipped with the Mark of Evasion trait. "

I definitely see you getting some boons as your health is dropping (regen+vigor+fury) – I think you have a few automatic traits that activate as skills and are causing confusion damage to tick on you again. At the very least you’re running soothing ice as I see the frost aura that would count as a skill activation kick off shortly before you go down, and there’s some final boon that kicks off right before you’re downed, I can’t even make out the icon – possibly aegis or protection, but if it too has a ‘silent skill’…

I actually had no idea that traits that have skill-type activations actually count against confusion, so that’s actually going to inform my builds moving forward – thanks for the video and asking, so I could learn that!
