That proposal seems to suggest that ANet should just release some substandard work and pretend it is okay. Have you considered the reactions and consequences to that?

That’s exactly what you’re suggesting and thank you for re-quoting the post so I didn’t have to.

Obviously, you only see what you want to see, not what was actually said. I said that the aspect of telling things in a way so that even kids (or people of low IQ) would be able to follow the story was one thing I am critizing. That has nothing to do with the use of contemporary language, which is another thing I criticize.

I don’t know how much clearer I can make this for you to understand, but I am getting the feeling that, no matter in how many different ways I am trying to explain this to you, you will always read it the way you want it so you can keep on arguing. And that is something I am not getting further into. Good luck.

You’re accusing the dialogue of being as if people of low IQ are trying to have a conversation. Slang was part of the many examples that you had given along with contractions. This entire thread is about you criticizing dialogue because you find them to be “kiddy” or said by those of low IQ.

Rejected:
• No Lumber Cores or Pruning Shears. We count these as trophies used for guild hall decorations which I already mentioned we opted to not include.
• No Golden Fractal Relic + Integrated Fractal Matrix. I discussed these with the Fractals team extensively throughout the process and they opted to investigate other solutions.
• No Writs and Tomes. I do not want to put in consumables of this nature.
• No Strategic Defense Map of the Mists. Used in very few things at a low cost.
• No Toys and Tonics. These are so outside of any of our qualifications for going into storage that I can’t believe I am having to explain why they aren’t going in.
• No Essence of Time. It is a trophy used in two things, one of them being a decoration.

Things to think about a bit more:
• Miyani Items. A lot of folks have rightly pointed out that all of Miyani’s items should go into storage. I haven’t made a final determination on this yet, but it’s likely that we will cut at least some of these from the list.
• Indigo Mushrooms + Mushroom Milk. I’m really on the fence about this one. I had wanted to allow them to keep dropping because they do make foods that can continue to be used, but I don’t particularly want to include them in storage because of how you start acquiring them. I’ll think about it more though.
• Badges of Tribute. We said no to these largely because of how you get them and use them. They are bought from a vendor and can be immediately consumed by crafting low-ish cost items with them. I will check in with the WvW team to see if they disagree with that sentiment.
• Mystic Runestone. If I am going to put in Icy Runestone, I should probably put in this one as well.
• Marks, Talismans, Seals, Medallions, and Crests. I have almost zero desire to put all 25 into storage, but I will rethink Crests specifically because of their inclusion in Amalgamated Gemstone crafting.
• Ascended crafting materials that make Grandmaster Marks. This is going to be a tough one. There are a lot of items here. I’ll consult with the PvP team and my fellow rewards folks.

I’ve got a bunch of replies saved up, so I am going to blast through a bunch of them now and circle back when I have time for a few topics I still want to touch on.

• No Instant Repair Canisters, Bank Access Express, Trading Post Express, Merchant Express, Revive Orb. Please just use these.

How about you add a check and if the account has , say a permanent Bank Access or other permanent, it quits dropping them and drops something useful or make them so you can sell them for something instead of just flushing them to make room.

Interesting. I don’t know if this is a desirable change on our end, but I will talk to some folks about something like this. We recently got some tech that MIGHT make it TECHNICALLY possible, so I can at least make a promise that I will poke the Commerce team about the idea. No promises beyond that.

Consider removing Unidentified Fossilized Insect and have someone make it so its vendor equivalent (3x Sandy Bag of Gear) drops instead once the Ambrite weapons collection is completed. Would probably make Dry Top-dedicated guilds even happier.

A replace on the drop table might be possible because of that previously mentioned tech, but I don’t know if it is in scope for me to make such a change.

15. Put on big girl pants and redo steps 7-11

I question the need for pants for this step. Pants are never necessary.

I normally agree thoroughly, however, in a professional environment not wearing any kind of bottom coverings is frowned upon.

Thanks for your work! May I also suggest the Ascended crafting materials you need for the Grandmaster Marks? Those are:
Carbonized Mithrillium Ingot
Square of Vabbian Silk
Blended Leather Sheet
Empowered Mithril Ingot
Empowered Cured Thick Leather Square
Bolt of Empowered Silk
Composite Wood Board
Weaponized Elder Wood Plank
Weaponized Cured Thick Leather Square
Weaponized Mithril Ingot

Ah ha! Now THIS. THIS is a suggestion. These did not exist when the project came up and were thus not even considered. I’m not going to make a promise right now that I will include them as I have not done my investigation, but I will promise to thoughtfully consider them and discuss it with the PvP team.

Lindsey, have you considered adding some more regular cooking materials? Things like Bottle of Rice Wine and Stein of Hearty Ale, that are used in recipes, but cannot be stored in the material storage.

I did but decided the use case wasn’t quite robust enough to include.

If anything, I am looking for cuts to this list, not adds.

Why should we suggest cuts??

Oh, I wasn’t necessarily asking for cut suggestions. Just indicating that I am not super interested in adding to the list, far more interested in removing. To be perfectly honest, I did not need to include the community in this project at all. I could have come up with this list on my own by just talking to folks internally. I just think it is more fun and inclusive doing it with community input and buy-in, so I took the opportunity to do that instead. It probably would have been easier for me to do it all internally.

Raid learning Issue - question for dev

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Crysto.7089

Crysto.7089

I’m not sure what the difference is in posting to LFG saying: This is a Training Run, We Would Like XYZ, and then people joining it vs. posting to TLFG and selecting a “role” to join as.

In both situations you either need some very tenacious individuals who will learn mechanics through trial and error or someone with some prior knowledge of the mechanics. Just getting bodies together isn’t enough.

Let’s take a popular PUG view of VG as an example…

  1. You need a tank .
  2. You need some form of boon stripping.
  3. You need some condition damage.
  4. You need to do enough DPS to kill the guy before enrage meaning about a 60k group dps average.
  5. You need some folks to run to green circles.
  6. You need some healers.

If this were the case, than you could make your imaginary queue with 6 roles. However, thanks to GW2 having a rather flexible system, this is NOT the case.

1. You need a tank.
You don’t NEED someone dedicated to being the tank. Anyone can tank. If you can’t take the heat of “tanking” VG’kittens, just run him around constantly as a dps or whatever you like. You don’t NEED to keep VG constantly in unlit sections, you can easily heal through them if everyone is on the same page or you decide to bring an extra healer (or 2, or 10..)

2. You need boon stripping.
While you do need a form of boon stripping, LITERALLY ANYONE CAN BOONSTRIP WITH THE APPROPRIATE SIGIL. Of course other classes have boon stripping available (engi throw mine, necro corrupt boon, rev mallyx, etc.) but anyone could fill this role.

3. You need condition damage.
While you do need some condition damage, practically every class does some small amount of condition damage even if they are power based. You can use the slightly less common strategy and have your group attune to red and run to blue and let your power classes’ inherent condi damage slowly kill red as you cleave blue and then green. So, how many condi damage slots should your TLFG queue have? If your dps are a bunch of power engis or scepter guards, you could probably get by with 0. Pretty much any other comp would only “need” 1.

4. You need “good” dps or enough to kill before enrage timer.
You don’t NEED enough dps to kill before enrage, but you will need to be able to survive enrage if you don’t have the DPS. We’ve seen interesting strategies such as stacking a team with heal tempests or revs and simply doing terrible dps but surviving the enrage to eventually kill. Will your TLFG tool account for alternative strategies such as this? And to preempt claims of “well a training group shouldn’t be using such a strategy”, Why not? Who is to say they shouldn’t if that is the way they wish to learn and get their kill? And what is considered DPS anyway? Practically every meta build (and most non-meta builds) can achieve 6k dps. From my own testing, practically every meta build and most non-meta builds can achieve 6k dps…. without any outside buffs.

5. You need a green circle squad.
You don’t NEED a green circle squad. As pretty much everyone is aware, distorting green circles is a fairly common strategy as is simply ignoring the greens and “bracing for impact” with healers or a combination of these strategies as a safety net. Such strategies can be very beneficial to learners seeking a kill as it removes a mechanic they need to keep track of. How will your TLFG tool account for this?

6. You need healers.
You don’t NEED dedicated healers. With the right group composition and “friendly” healing skills (healing turret, healing spring, ventari tablet, wash the pain away, countless regen sources, healing mantras, etc etc etc.) almost every class can, some with little to no sacrifice, provide a healing source for everyone else which is enough healing to secure a kill.

This isn’t super secret hidden knowledge, I know, but with so many variables, making an automated TLFG tool would not only be silly, it would discourage new players from coming up with their own strategies that may actually work better for them/their group. Having all this flexibility and the leniency of raids and their mechanics is what makes the fights so interesting. It is a puzzle to solve with many interesting solutions and taking that away from players by saying you MUST play role XYZ for training, is awful.

So again I have to wonder what benefit, if any, this form of “automated” LFG would have when you really do need the communication and customization to work within a system as flexible as gw2’s.

To the OP. If you want the HPs in HOT to unlock your HOT specialization and don’t want to wait for other players to help out (or don’t want to crawl around the canopy to find them), just go to Edge of the Mist WvW and do a bit of mindless zerging. With each gained level in WvW, you’ll get tokens that can be traded in to advance your HOT HPs. If you want map completion, then you’ll either have to lfg or find the HP and wait for someone else to show up if you don’t want to solo the champ.

I don’t disagree with the idea of the festival happening again, but I kind of disagree with the reasoning why, fairness.
None of this is about being fair, it is more about what is.
If the argument for the festival to return was, “the Zephyrites, after suffering a heavy blow in Dry Top, have been able to rebuild and want to celebrate a new beginning by reactivating their traditional festival,” then I am on board for that.

The OP mixes two issues. One is simply class balance; the desire for all classes to be perceived as bringing something of equal worth to the table. The second issue is the perception of player value in grouped content.

Grouped content, that’s the thing—playing with other humans. Anything is viable solo, but you may catch hell if you deviate from established norms around grouped content. Anet can directly address class balance and do a good or bad job of it. However, a meta will emerge regardless as that is a human thing. People will learn what works best and they will look for that knowledge in the people they play with. And from this human trait will emerge the tears of the nonconformist. This is pervasive in every sphere of life; why would we expect anything less in gaming.

My point is, why do you assume that Anet working on balance has the goal of making all classes ‘equal’ for play? There is lots of evidence to suggest that’s not the case, not just in GW2 but lots of other MMO’s as well.

I think that’s a terrible assumption to have. Why does anyone even have the impression that balance means making classes equally desireable for meta, especially when meta is a player-implemented idea and no one that Anet acknowledges as any kind of measure of class performance? That makes no sense, in ANY game.

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with a someone harassing me (both irl and in-game) and was wondering what the blocking behaviour is in GW2?
(snip)

Since they are doing this in real life as well as in game, you need to take a few additional steps to protect yourself.
1. You need to notify law enforcement NOW. INSIST that a report be made – them acting on the report isn’t necessary, but your filing the report IS.
2. You need to notify support NOW.
3. You need off-line copies of your documentation of the harassment. Whether that is screenshots, printed copies of e-mails, etc. You need that documentation, and you need it somewhere off-line and NOT on your computer. I’d suggest a USB drive that you place in your sock drawer, or a bank safety deposit box. The reason for off-line is that accounts can be hacked, computers can be stolen, and computers can also be seized by law-enforcement for discovery and you could be out of luck if you don’t have a copy elsewhere.

Don’t wait, this isn’t about getting someone in trouble, this IS about protecting yourself and creating a paper trail that can be used as evidence. In my experience, harasser’s will tend to be in one of two categories: a) the oblivious idiot that is just “joking” around and will actually stop if you slap them hard enough with a clue-by-four, or b) the dangerous kind that will only escalate.

Unfortunately, you have to smack them with that clue-by-four before you can determine which category they fit into, so you have to start setting up your protection with the worst-case scenario in mind from the get go.

I don’t subscribe to the thought that something needs to be complex to be challenging. It’s the lazy way of design.

We don’t subscribe to that notion either. I do believe however that it is acceptable for some fractals to be more complex than others, especially ones that are part of an important arc. It is also true that a more complex challenge is not necessarily a lazy design. What is most important to us is that each fractal provides a unique and interesting challenge, and we have to be aware that not every challenge will appeal to every player.

How friendly has the community been

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ashen.2907

Ashen.2907

Thank you for sharing I was just curious about other peoples experience, and was expressing mine so far if anyone have an issue with that well maybe they should not post here.

I have not seen anyone express an issue with your decision to express your experience. They may not share that experience, may consider it to be atypical, but that is very different than suggesting that someone, “should not post here.”

The reason why SOME people are less “friendly” in HoT is because the content is harder and not everyone is good at typing and playing. It’s easy to type in core tyria, because you’re not as ;likely to die when you do. That has nothing to do with friendly. It has to do with the ability to communicate while in danger.

Plenty of friendly people in HOT who just don’t type well.

I did not say friendly I said toxic, perhaps you missed that part?

Exploring hot and helping with basic masteries? I have to be honest so far in my experience it has not been that freindly and it is hard to find a guild that will run through it with you.

“How friendly has the community been”

Actually yes, you DID say friendly. It is in both the topic title and the original post. Toxic is not used in either. As Vayne replied to the topic, by not quoting a specific subsequent post, he was on topic.

I have a few theories about why people might reply to call outs in HoT less frequently than they might in core maps.

1) increased challenge. Its hard for some people to type while fighting for their character’s lives in a zone where mobs are able to actually kill a PC. In core tyria going afk, alt tabbing, or just chatting/responding to map calls are much safer options because some mobs just can’t do much to your character even if you are not actively playing.

2) Increased mob density. Fewer spots to safely park your character where he will be safe while you are exchanging messages.

3) Distances. If someone calls out for help with an event on the other side of a HoT map there is a good chance that it will all be over and done with by the time I can get there.

4) Navigation. Really part of #3. If I am going to have difficulty even finding my way to the other guy how can I help him?

There are just some people who can’t tolerate anybody pointing out truisms from HoT.

I personally dislike HoT and tend to avoid it, but expressing a personal opinion about the expansion does not make that opinion a truism.

WvW EU matchmaking

in WvW

Posted by: Tiersten.8502

Tiersten.8502

This is working as intended even though it is very counterintuitive. It isn’t a bug. The way the matchmaking system currently works is that it’ll calculate the new rating for everybody to update the leaderboard. It’ll then make a temporary copy of the leaderboard and give everybody a random deviation between -100 to +100. It’ll sort this temporary leaderboard and then split everybody off into groups of 3 for their matches. Arenanet added this so you’d get some variation in the matches instead of the same matches nearly every week.

Augury Rock’s rating is 1691.558 which means you could be facing any server if you’re unlucky with the random deviation. If you had a +100 adjustment and Gandara + Far Shiverpeaks had a -100 each then you could end up with a match between #1, #2 and #11.

Arenanet need to overhaul the WvW matchmaking algorithm to suit the current state of WvW where the servers are bunched up fairly closely in terms of rating.

Ok folks, here is where we are at with this material storage side project that I originally outlined here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-s-Missing-from-Material-Storage/first

1. Determine need for side project
2. Work with programming to investigate the backend and define limitations
3. Ask for suggestions from playerbase <- LAST TIME WE TALKED
4. Collate suggestions from all sources
5. Refine data to determine popularity of suggestions
6. Refine list to remove suggestions that are impossibilities for whatever reason
7. Research every suggestion to fully understand their use cases
8. Meet with experts to better understand the needs of their area of the game (WvW, Fractals, Scribes, SAB)
9. Refine data list to remove suggestions that are unfavorable for whatever reason
10. Discuss and plan alternative solutions to suggestions that are unfavorable but could be addressed in another way
11. Assign Materials to specific material storage collections
12. Experience data loss, resetting progress back to step 7, thus undoing all the hard parts I just did
13. Experience crushing demoralization and wallow in sadness for days while numerous people try to help recover work. This is why you should never save your docs locally and nowhere else.
14. Acceptance of lost data and thorough avoidance of redoing work while advancing through stages of grief
15. Put on big girl pants and redo steps 7-11
16. Document proposed changes
17. Present final list to design team for last minute objections and additions
18. Present final list to playerbase for last minute discussion and final appeals <- WE ARE HERE
19. Adjust design as needed.
20. DO THE WORK <- the easy part

I’ll personally be paying attention to discussion here and on The Inevitable Reddit Thread™ for the next week. I’ll be finalizing the list in the following week and finding the time to DO THE WORK after that. Here are some notes on how we chose what:
• No “components” has been my go to up til now but you will notice there are a bunch of things here that might be called “component”. The ways I softened but did not eliminate this rule is two fold: 1) allow a second tier of refinement like dowels and patches which are used cross discipline, 2) allow a number of scribing and cooking components that feel very core to the disciple and are used over and over throughout but did not have OTHER components in their ingredients which are also being added to storage (eg no herbed stocks because base stocks go in).
• No Inscriptions and Insignias. I just felt that there were too many and there were more important things that crafters were more likely to be holding on to for longer.
• No sigils and runes. I believe there are WAY better solutions to this problem.
• No legendary gifts. Too many. Too niche.
• No Piles of Silky Sand. Just consume them, geez.
• No SAB Baubles and Bubble Baubles. I spoke with the SAB designers and this is a technical limitation with how that stuff all works in SAB.
• No WvW Blueprints. I spoke with the WvW designers and they felt that this would create a bad user experience for players who legit use blueprints.
• No Black Lion stuff. There is a combination of technical issues and a lack of desire for those to work that way.
• No Boosters, Tonics, Foods (general food consumables not the core cooking ingredients), utility buff, and potions. Just no. Seriously. There are way too many and there is a whole host of reasons why you just get a no.
• No Instant Repair Canisters, Bank Access Express, Trading Post Express, Merchant Express, Revive Orb. Please just use these.

EDIT: This was partially cut off.

• No Luck. Just no.
• No trophy items that make specific decorations etc for the guild hall. Too many. Too niche.
• No keys. There are better solutions for keys that we have not yet had time to pursue and I want to leave room for us to do those things instead.

EDIT2:

Reminder: Once an item has been added to Material Storage, it can never be removed or moved to a different category. However, I did get a small piece of tech to allow me to re-organize within each bucket and I’ll be doing some re-ordering work as part of this update.

Rejected:
• No Lumber Cores or Pruning Shears. We count these as trophies used for guild hall decorations which I already mentioned we opted to not include.

Free accounts are able to choose their world when first set up, however they cannot transfer to a different server by any method. After upgrading to a paid account, they receive one free transfer to any non-full world.

PSA: you can hit the enter key when the dialog is huge, and it will accept it and salvage all the things. I use that, because it’s much easier than trying to find the accept button and click it.

I don’t mind the hammer but I think improving its skills would be a nice. For example, the #3 skill (The projectile reflect) isn’t that useful since most of the Fanatics are melee or use non-projectile ranged attacks. Maybe we could get some version of a few Archdiviner skills. (Like the cone-shaped slam or the cone-shaped pull)

Actually skill 3 is the most usefull as it denys the stun you get at 30 stacks which can be really good when rushing in the last set of seal u just gotta time it. But id like to see the skill 2 change now thats useless.

I haven’t done t3s in ages but based on my experience in t4s i would say people usually fail due to attacking the boss when he is blocking. Just don’t do it and make sure your teammates don’t do it either or kick them if they continue to do so.
You don’t need high dps to kill it really, some Ccs for adds could be nice tho.

Open your own LFG with your own requirements.

Don’t blame others because theirs are too hard because it’s annoying to wipe over and over again with a new player if you can oneshot bosses with experienced ones.

We have a winner.

@TC Don’t blame other people for not wanting to take risks on unexperienced players. You aren’t even willing to put in 15 seconds of creating your own lfg for a first clear.

Playing EoTM to rank up quickly isn’t cheating, regardless of how much it grinds your gears that the EoTM grinders can have the same rank as the “real” wvw players.
