Is it like, ANet made the game, so we must be eternally grateful?

They are allowing you to play said game for free. So, ya. A little bit of gratitude towards them wouldn’t hurt.

Though, if the players really wanted this type of frivolous content to be free, because they’re too lazy to port to town, I’m sure they would be more than willing to add a 13$-15$ monthly subscription fee. Then you could get all the “free” content you could want. You would just pay gold for it then..

…Like you can do now.

To me, the more scarier mindset is the “I don’t care, everything should be free for me” one.

I don’t care that much about respeccing on the fly, what I really want is to be able to save templates.

That said, don’t really see that much of a problem of this item on the gem store. The way I see it is:

GW1: Respec in any outpost for free, builds completely locked out when you go to an explorable area.

GW2: Respec for very cheap on any city and some explorable areas (all cities and 6 regular maps), trait points locked but with the posibility to change major traits anytime anywhere when out of combat, one separated area (heart of the mysts) with unlimited free retraits for trying them out.

Each one has its advantages and disadvantages (can’t retrait without visiting trainer in GW2, can’t change anything about your build between fights in GW1), but really the only thing I miss from GW1 when it comes to builds is template saving, and to be honest I don’t see how having this item on the gem store has anything to do with the posibility of saving templates in the future. I see it more as a convenience item like the bank access express or the revive orbs.

BTW, one way I do see Anet using the gem store for template saving is like they do with bank and bag slots, giving a set number of template slots (2 or 3) with the posibility of purchasing more.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

The first time I cleared the dungeon with a pug we were stuck on Slick and Sparki for easily an hour (factor in that we were openly experimenting with different tactics to see what was and wasn’t viable).

When we finally had a strategy figured out that we were sure would work and that we could effectively teach other people, the party kept wiping due to one warrior that refused to follow instruction. He would get ooze aggro, ignore it, and run all over the room, so oil pools were scattered and unmanagable. He thought what he was doing the right thing and rage quit when everyone else told him to stop and listen. We had someone else come in, from LFG tool, that did listen, and we beat it on the first try.

One player with a bad attitude can have a huge negative effect on the party. In my experience, pug issues come down to…

  1. Failure to stick to a plan
  2. Failure to communicate
  3. Failure to adapt
  4. Refusal to follow
  5. Lack of patience

More often than not, the people rage quitting were contributing to the problem. I would rather have four new people with me that can stick together and are capable than one Prima donna that is going to do his own thing and have an attitude about it.

If you are having a really hard time puggin, hit me up in game and ill try to get people into guild groups. No armor check, min AP or specific profession required. We have gotten pretty efficient.

dungeon only has one flaw:Elitists

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: Tobbygnome.6793

Tobbygnome.6793

I’ll just say that most of these ‘elitists’ are not really that ‘elite’ when it comes to GW2 content. I personally hate dungeons in this game, they are riddled with exploits, so no matter if you go on dulfy and youtube and learn the content, when you actually enter the dungeon, it’s a different tactic all together, it’s stack on this glitchy rock/branch/cliff and range the boss.

This is where fake elitists come in, where the extent of their knowledge in dungeons lies in knowing all the best exploit rocks, yet their reaction time, damage, support, knowledge of their class and intelligence are kitten. They are also like how ‘ilr’ detailed them “People who rage quit that fast and/or just insta-kick other PuGs for superficial reasons… aren’t elitists. They’re just inexperienced PuG’ers themselves trying to get better people to carry them.”

The fake elitist attitude is not entirely ArenaNet’s fault, but exploits i guess is their fault for creating such a buggy environment, and maybe they can improve on this in the future. But with the way dungeons are now, i hate them, and i’m a bit saddened this patch is ‘just’ a dungeon path, but i’m not complaining, i don’t want to be selfish, Super Adventure Box was a patch for me, maybe the next one will be one i like as well.

I love this new dungeon.

Our guild ran this dungeon for the first time and after learning it and figuring it out we really loved it. As far as graphics, its like Unreal Tournament meets Doom and Phantasy star.

The trick to beating this dungeon is similar to other dungeons, know your build and classes…..use VoIP communication and apply some teamwork.

We beat this dungeon and enjoyed the content.

I thought people went into dungeons because they were challenging and fun.

people do this in mmo’s?

Listen, while I agree that’s part if it most people and myself included go in it for the loots. When there isn’t any loots other than dungeon tokens, why bother doing it if its tedious and long and has the same reward as easier and shorter paths (aka tokens).

This is a really good game but when it comes to rewarding players with loot ANET doesn’t have a clue what to do.

If you’re gonna put out content that is challenging, then you better reward people for doing it (other than just a silly back item), or most people are only going to do it once or twice and then never do it again.

Why do you think diablo 3 failed as hard as it did? (there are many reasons) but the biggest one is because it was challenging and yet it didn’t reward its players. Nobody want’s to do challenging content for little or no epic loots. That’s what these games are all about, so when you add hard content to the game but drop the ball on the loots, nobody is gonna freaking do the content because its not worth it. These are the fundamental facts of any RPG/MMO.

Thanks for the feedback!

I can address a few of these bugs:

  • Floor resetting: This is a side-effect of the boss not losing its armor upon wiping. As an additional note, you can explode a holo next to him at any time to reset the floors. Hope that helps
  • Weird teleportation: This one’s on me. Basically what’s happening here is that the teleportation is only supposed to kick in if you accidentally get yourself inside the Holopirate Generator’s collision (via a teleport skill etc). The teleport is a failsafe to prevent you from getting stuck. Unfortunately, the collision on these generators gets smaller once you destroy them, so the area you’re teleported from is now accessible to just running into it. I have a fix for this queued up for the next non-hotfix build. My apologies to those running into this!
  • Clockheart resetting: Right now there’s a few issues with the Clockheart resetting. They can be worked around, but a fix is incoming. After the fix goes in, the Clockheart will remove shielding & super charge & teleport back to the center platform as soon as a wipe occurs, ensuring future runs post-wipe will go exactly as planned.
  • Holograms not spawning: This seems to be a rare issue that we’ve noticed but haven’t been able to pin down the exact cause. We’re looking into it and will hopefully ironclad that issue from occurring.

Just want to clear one small thing up.

Noob is usually an insult to a “skilled” player, while Newb refers to a new player. When someone stands in fire or messes something up that upsets the team when they should know better, they are referred to as a Noob in an insulting manner. But when someone is new and you are teaching them how to do something, and they make mistakes based on first time experiences, they are referred to as a Newb for being new.

At least, that’s how it was back in my day of gaming. Don’t know if it has changed since then.

And thanks on the “OOC” part. I never knew that meant out of combat. All my times playing on RP servers, it always meant out of character. Was weird seeing people say that all the time in dungeons. Kept thinking they were roleplaying.

All i can say it WOW. I have been in the game and have read these forums since Day 1. I have smirked, laughed, said WTF so many times i can’t even count. I have found myself on the elitist’s side and the non-elitist’s side of many arguments. I have logged in excited to do my daily and also dreading to do my daily, just like days i love my job and days i hate my job, etc. This is the first post that has actually made me stop and actually reply.

And my reply is a resounding applause for what you call a rant. This is the first post I have seen ( while there may have been some that i did not see ) that actually took the time to level set their opinion.

Thank you Kaisharga.5647 for taking the time to try and create a common verbiage , common expectations of a team as well as common expectations of a teammate. While your ‘English’ may not have been the best, it is still head and shoulders above most forum posters whose first language IS English and have said more in this one post then those that have posted 1k+ times.

The sad thing is… as of the time of my post, there have been 96 views and no responses. I believe most people , when set upon with irrefutable logic , are left speechless. There is nothing in your ‘rant’ that can be made fun of, laughed at, or argued with.

Your post is what most forum posters neglect — level setting everyone on their opinion. Most people on these forums are very egocentric ( I also am not immune to this ). They believe their opinion is rule , discount other’s opinions , and don’t even take the time to explain even what they write, and half of the time they just contradict themselves 3 posts later.

My apologies for my own rant, though i meant to mainly applaud your efforts. Even if it does fall on deaf ears, I just wanted you to know that at least someone out there shared your opinion.

Thank you.

Hello everyone. My name is Arijani from the Desolation server. What I intend to do, with all-goodness-in heart is try to utilize my poor English for the sake letting people know how to handle random players into their assault in Twilight Arbor. I was driven to do so from numerous posts I read and personal experiences in PUGs.

1.Dictionary

Noob: A person who is new to the game or has fewer achievement points than you or just entered the dungeon for the first time or dies more than you.

Mob: A mob is monster or any hostile NPC that is not a boss

Boss: A boss is tough moster or hostile NPC, that has significantly more Heath than mobs, gives better loot than mobs and needs q certain approach in order to defeat it. Also, a boss is commonly the main objective of a dungeon.

Aggro: The situation in which the mob/boss is aggravated by your behavior and decides to attack you intead of others in the same dungeon as you are. How this happens? Please consult the wiki for more info.

Kiting: An act of dragging a mob/boss that has aggro on you accord an area for q specific reason. Referred to as kiting due to the similarity of a person flying a kite and dragging it to where he pleases.

OOC: Means out of combat

I felt the need to point out these terms as I shockingly found out that some of my teammates didn’t know.

General Code of Conduct

or

How to behave when socializing online in a gaming environment

1. Be polite. The fact that you don’t look your other teammates in the eye or the chance that you will never meet again doesn’t exclude the option of showing some manners. Bad language for no apparent reason is a factor that will immidiately alienate you from the rest of your team. Do not forget that all of you are in the same place to have fun.

No matter what some people are just rude or you might find that some people are not the best people to work with you. For that there is the block feature.

2. Acknowledge the reason someone has started a vote to kick a teammate. Discuss it, wait, try to find a solution. It could be you in the kicked one’s shoes, finding out you were booted out of a dungeon with no apparent reason.

It occurred to me witnessing teammates of my own seconding a vote to kick someone just because they saw the window. “I thought the guy who imitated the vote had his reasons” is not a valid excuse.

3. People might need a break. 1 or 2 or 5 minutes in my opinion is an understandable period of time in which someone from you team might need to relax, use a restroom or have a sudden issue in RL that needs solving. In this category I think falls the situation of the disconnected teammate. Allow some time to see if the player in question comes back online or just faked a reason to quit the effort of trying a difficult encounter with you.

4. There are more professions than Warrior/Guardian. I was kicked from a TA group just because I was an Engineer. I don’t know if that is a global GW phenomenon, but in many a time have I stumbled upon people saying: LFG … no noob classes, and when I asked what noob classes were I got the response: Engineers, Rangers, Thieves.

I find this sad and ill thought of, since the person looking for a group states that people who choose some classes over others have a greater benefit than us lesser professionals.
I don’t want to sound whiny or kitteny for some issues and I understand that some classes offer resources that others can’t, such as Time Warp, Portals, Warrior dps and banners, Guatdian survivability etc.

Thank you for tolerating my rant from my point of view, with my opinion stated only, ill conceived or not, please comment spread the word or feel free to disagree constructively.

(yes the post is long, so was the year)

Introduction
Most of this has been said, I’d just like to add another constructive voice. I hope that the devs come to the understanding that this opinion isn’t arbitrary, nor a minority view of the LS content.

I could never get “in” to any other mmo. They just couldn’t maintain my interest for more than a couple of weeks. Even “long lasting” games like Skyrim, which I loved, I only played for 3-4 months. Yet here I am one year later, still playing this game. Not since Baulder’s Gate and Age of Empires have I ever devoted so much time to a single game. As an avid gamer, having passed up quite a few other games I do want to play because this game is actually still fun, should show how much I do like this game and want it to succeed.

I would like you to understand this, and know just how much I enjoy this game that was created. But “Living Story” needs a major overhaul in it’s design philosophy. I believe it may help the cash shop make money now but it is very detrimental to the long term enjoyment of an otherwise top notch game.

I hope you guys can appreciate my feedback on just what the Living Story has meant to me: I want this to be as constructive as possible.

Prelude
Yes there has been some good fun content. But as a whole there has been far more lost potential. Looking back at LS as a whole, there was a lot of stuff, for sure. But take too long to try and remember any one thing and it was “Meh.” Or if was good, it was accompanied or preceded or immediately followed by more “meh.”

The game is like a great Anime series. But we’ve been stuck in a horrible “filler” arc since the mangaka died.

There’s a fading memory of mildly interesting content, awkward comic relief that doesn’t feel like it even belongs, the story feels like it’s completely forgotten everything that happened before it, and the villains are so ‘out there’ you can’t even suspend disbelief long enough to accept them as cannon, oh, and hours of time launching fireworks and being sent to “kill X things” and “touch X signs” something I seem to recall DE’s and heart quests were specifically designed to avoid.

I have great memories of many games, but I can go back and play those games to relive those memories. There is no means of that here. In the end it barely matters how much fun I had at the time if I can’t relive it.

Monkey Fritz.9052

Chapter One: Looking Back
SAB was the first recurring event, and as a fan of it, it was fun. There have been a lot of games built on the nostalgia idea and I think they all failed horribly in comparison to this game within a game. The nay=sayers claim it is out of place, but the world of Tyria doesn’t really belong in my living room either. But then so much of the reward system was changed for W1 (instead of maybe just doubling the prices and rewards from w2) it actually damaged the memory. And makes me worry about upcoming holiday events and what fun things will be “improved” in horrifying ways.

I sincerely hope that you begin to understand that more and more people have given you as much time as we could. A whole year to see if your way was gonna work, that’s a long time to dedicate to any game. I hope you guys understand that. It’s a testament to the launch title that so many of us are still around. I for one am not here because of living story. I would like to see it live up to it’s potential, I had so much hope after F&F, the direction then and the opening of Secret of Southson looked like AMAZING and bright future for the direction of the game. That much great content every month? Sweet!

So tell me why the long drawn out “lets take our time and figure out what we are going to do with this LS idea” thing worked so much better than “Lets have four teams rushing content out the door every two weeks because that looks good on an advertisement!”

Chapter Two: Looking Forward
Unless you plan on releasing a brand new game within a couple of years to recapture the populous and do it all again, you need to concern yourselves with long term player interest. “It’s always less then two weeks since or til a brand new update!” Carries a huge connotation when those are the only updates available. “GW2, where there are only two small updates available at any given time!” Is what far too many of us are at least tempted to tell our friends. (I actually recently convinced my brother to buy the game and kinda felt like I was lying to him by not pointing that out, so you are welcome for that.)

Two things are killing this game for me personally, there are many other reasons in other posts like this, but these are my personal demons, and you should care, because I’m not alone:

Time gating content “Once per day.”
And the biweekly Random AP Quest. The “story” is on the website, as usual. And there is nothing living about it.

Chapter Three: What could have been
The world is the same as it was at launch. The most memorable change to me was the lighthouse in LA, and the statue melting prior to the mad king, then being rebuilt over several weeks through wintersday. Both of those happened in 2012! And neither of them matter to anyone who wasn’t there to know it happened.

Orr is still corrupted, none of the other dragons have done anything. None of the races have done anything. Lions Arch elected a new official (really, as a highlight for one year’s worth of content, that’s kinda lame) and there are Skypirates. (Which still manages to sound cooler than it actually has been.)

Fire and Frost could have lead us into a whole new area where all the refugees had been driven from, filled with molten alliance, skill points, vistas and heart quests and a full 3-path dungeon as the “main” molten facility. (With the original intact as the story mode. And you could have taken six months or more to pull that off and dropped a new race and class at the one year anniversary. The world would have loved you for it. All the story for the molten alliance could have remained in game for future generations to love and adore as they catch up to the next arc.

Then we would have a precedent for a truly epic storyline, with a brand new map and full dungeon every six months. Which could have lead into some connection with one of the elder dragons and tipped the hat for the next “main arc” to start dealing with the actual threat of the dragons. There are enough of them you could deal with a different one every six months as we slowly work towards a resolution and still have a decade worth of content.

We already HAD pirates, far too many for any economy and/or safety in tyra to actually exist, but now they have airships. Yueah.

Chapter Four: To AFK or not to AFK, that is the Daily
There are a lot of things I still enjoy about this game, but they were all here a year ago. In spite of that there is a TON more time gating that’s been added, essentially nerfing the original game in ways that prevent me from doing things. I used to log back in on an alt and do stuff over again if I felt like it, and work towards the same rewards for that alt. Now I can’t. Now I am required to focus on a single character ‘per day’ and use the others to harvest ore and wood that is also timegated and I know that you are going to account lock that before the end of the year. I can feel it in my bones.
This truly diminishes the value of extra chr slots at an exponential rate.

TL:DR:
Love the game, saddened by the direction.

Timegating = I get that you want me to log in every day to be sure I get all the daily limited things done and be tempted by the cash shop, or pour gold into the gem pool so that others can be tempted by gem conversion. But all you are doing is forcing me log out when all my daily limits are effectively locking me out of the content I enjoy (and making me regret ever even starting my alts). Or, more commonly, being tabbed out while I do other more interesting things.

Random Story = Just adding my voice to what so many others have posted about.
The most fun I have in the game is still the vanilla game. LS is completely arbitrary and hollow feeling, it makes me less and less interested in the longevity of this game. There is more story in the random interactions of Skritt in various corners of the world than there is in any LS release.

Taking this with a grain of salt is fine, just don’t pour salt on an open wound and pretend these concerns are from a minority and therefore unimportant.

I love the new path

This is what I’d call doing it right, everything in this path is well designed.

-Mobs don’t have too much HP.

-We actually have to move to survive in certain encounters, not just stack afk auto-attacks.

-Interesting mechanics without being frustrating. Maybe Fire Elemental room is an exception, but the Slick encounter is good. There is an indicator who the Ooze will follow, and he follows very well, also the radius which he will start sucking up fields is very responsive.

-Electric room with 4 panels! We can dodge the field or put up invulnerable skills. This is very awesome.

-Bosses don’t have ridiculously large HP pools. Even the final boss, who is a Legendary class, goes down surprisingly fast.

-Builds apart from DPS machines are actually viable. No quick cheap one-shot moves from bosses, more consistent damage which makes sustain-based builds useful.
No comments on Condition builds as I haven’t seen them yet.

I’m looking forward to more paths and revamps like this in the future. Very nice job on this one.
