Totally agree.

Had the same problem about 1h ago. 2 1/2h fight, we finally reach the boss and then the leader has to leave. I know RL always comes first (which is understandable) but the way it works right now is just terrible.

There should be a vote system to get a new leader imo (similar to the “kick” system). Finding a new leader automatically would work as well.

My party ….on more than one occasion has gotten to the end at the last boss…and then the leader decides to leave…therefore defeating over an hours worth of work….down the drain…no defeating boss no tokens….

If this in the game could get changed. I’m sure it’d be appreciated by many players….

Well, for all those crafting The Juggernaut – bad news.
Silver Doubloons skyrocket up to 80s30c from 47s00c in the last 5 days.

The real bad news is I just sold 15 silver doubloons last week!

I’m not without sympathy for those of you trying to get The Juggernaut. It’s just that my gold > your Legendary. I’m sure you understand.

Suggestion: Historian NPCs for Living World

in Living World

Posted by: Sorann Peace.9056

Sorann Peace.9056

Introduction

So I thought of this great idea. I realized that a lot of the important story content of the Living World was mostly based in instances or short stories. So I decided to make this suggestion:

The Historian

I was thinking, we have a reference to the Personal Story already in our Hero window. Why not add an npc for Living World in a similar fashion or even a tab for that matter? Here’s what I think should be added to such a window:

Short Stories

We have so many short stories on the website, why not add them to this Living World tab? They could help people understand the story a bit better by utilizing things that have already been made.

Summary of Events

There should be a section for each Living World chapter (e.g. Flame and Frost, Secret of Southsun, The Aetherblades, etc.) that include specific summaries for those events.

Playable Content

Assuming ArenaNet still has the data from previous Living World instances still available, they could add in some buttons in each chapter tab where you can play the Living World story in chronological order. I say this because the majority of story content is in instances, and anything that is not in instances can be explained in a Disclaimer as well.

Solo Instances

Much of the story takes place in story instances, beginning with Rox and Braham trying to get help, to retaking the hatchery and cragstead. Add in the instances for playability by accessing the Living World tab or Historian NPC. Heck, you can even do this for the Personal Story! (How i’d love to replay my old personal story missions…)

Dungeons

There were also many dungeons in Living World as well. You can make this content available by putting in a Historian NPC and allowing a group of 5 players to experience the content through said NPC.

Conclusion

This is about all I have so far, if anybody else has any suggestions, please feel free to make them!

Why we need an expansion.

Why is the rule every 2 weeks

Why not have the release schedule vary according to the needs of the content? Sometimes we might gets lighter content that’s released every 2 weeks, but other times it may be more “epic heavy content” that can be released every 2 months. I think this would add more variation in the living story content as well as in player expectations.

CHIPS.6018

How to make the environment alive? Well its atmosphere. That means, other than the player’s fight against the mobs, what else is going on?

One example I would point out is the Return of the Kings game. They did it really well. On top of player vs mobs, they have civilians, ally soldiers and siege weapons. It really make you feel you are a part of a bigger battle.

Using the new TA dungeon as an example, they could have wild animals running away from the chaos throughout the game. They could add ally soldiers that you meet throughout the game, but they won’t follow you.

This is just one example. Atmosphere will change from place to place, depending on situation. And they need to be adjusted. For example a stealth mission will use different mechanics to make that environment feel alive. For example we might hear more chatta between the enemies (they can’t see us). We might see more enemies making out (haha).

Notice that atmosphere is totally separated from the player vs mob action. Its what’s going on around and outside the main action.

Living World 1 year later: a sincere opinion.

in Living World

Aedil.1296

Hello, I would love to express my sincere opinion about Guild Wars 2 Living World after playing since beta.

I played 7 years of Guild Wars 1, and I’ve always been a very fan of its Lore. In my opinion the best fantasy game world ever. You had tons of secondary stories almost in every corner of Tyria, all of them strictly connected to the world and history, and some of them could easly drive into epic stories that they could change the all the world itself (1 example for all the “scepter of the mists”).

Anyway, since I’m a real appassionate about the Lore of Tyria I’m still wondering why all the amazing stories started in gw1 do not have any continuity in gw2.

I think the living story for what it is now is not telling anything about Tyria, anything related to dragons, or the gods, or any other stories or mysteries we have seen in gw1.
I find these releases kinda banal, and not relevant to tyria at all.
I’m wondering if the living story writers knows anything about the world of tyria to be honest.

The only release that is very interesting and has an immense power lore talking is Fractal of the Mists, becouse you can make everything happens inside there, the timeline is irrelevant, and you are in the mists, the realm of the gods.

I’m gonna remind you some (only the ones happened in Tyria Continent no Elona or Cantha since we don’t have those yet) of the interrupted amazing storylines you left behind:
- first of all the Gods, where the hell they’re gone?
- what happened when Kormir…..? (Spoiler Stop.)
- is abaddon really dead?
- the origins of the pale trees seeds (note the plural – there is a personal story that talks about that and many speculations going on about that, that’s VERY interesting!)
- the castle of Garenhoff?
- Kerrsh quest and the aspect of the Gods – i know u have put his diary in the library at priory but nothing more, and someone translated the inscriptions! (…on distant shores….) + connection between gods and dragons?
- OMG Livia! where’s Livia!!?!?
- The scepter of Orr!?!?
- the tunnel made by dredge that goes into Cantha Kurzick stone forest?
- where the Seer gone?
- omg one word – MURSAAT- !!!!
- the 4 bloodstones + the keystone?
- Lord Odran portals to the mists!?
- Underworld and Fow?
- the tombs of the iconic characters such as Mehnlo, Cynn, Aidan ect ect
- ect ect ect

They are too many to say them all, but u got an idea. You have stories to fill years of releases, and you’re just releasing nonsense stories that has nothing new to say to the world and they neither have any connection to the lore.
In gw1 a simple secondary quest could be so interesting and powerfull that can maybe change the world, whilst now a world release like molten facility or aetherblades is just killed in 1 week with nothing mysterius or intriguing about it and everything come back to normality like anything happened at all.

Another thing: most people new to GW says that this game don’t have a Lore at all, so once a week we have the “lore night” were i am the storyteller and i tell a story about something happened in the world of Tyria, to make them understand better the world itself and why some things are this way.

You left new players without any info about the story of GW. There are some amazing videos on youtube made by WoodenPotatoes that narrates the story of gw very well and imitating the stylish way of your videos, but the point is, was that difficult to make this youself inside the game without force someone else to do that in your place?

People needs to know how wonderful and intense the story of Tyria is, but you’re doing the exactly opposite, I can’t really understand why.

Forgive me for the very long post, I hope you will considerate what i’m saying, Thank you so much for your time!

A very affectionate player

Words
I really enjoyed going through the new path, it requires just enough teamwork to not make it boring, but isn’t too hard that it makes you annoyed to play through it.

I’m hoping more and more dungeon paths will be revamped like this, but maybe with slightly less kiting in the future, I feel that kiting works well in this path, but could be repetitive if you do more heavily kite-based dungeons, maybe each type of dungeon could have its main specific difficulty tied to it?

The only issue we have right now, is because there are so many other exploitable paths that makes them a cakewalk, people will soon stop playing this path in favor of the easier, more exploitable ones, speaking of which, I hope people won’t find a way to exploit this path.

A very nice surprise, I didn’t expect the path to be this enjoyable! Here’s also hope that achievements will also be tied to future path revamps, imagine having every paths we know revamped one day, each path with its own achievement category and all of this new path’s quality? It would be great!

Whenever I’m not playing with my guild I specify that I’m forming a party where anyone is welcome and especially new/inexperienced players (or new to that content anyway) and this is one of the reasons.

I strongly suspect it scares off the elitists, the ones who weren’t already put off by me playing a ranger anyway, and I’d much rather play with people who are learning the content than people who want to skip everything and kick anyone who dies or doesn’t meet their personal expectations because in my experience it’s a much more enjoyable experience.

(Besides I doubt I’d meet those elitists standards either and I have absolutely no intention of ever doing so.)

It’s not that easy …

1. Creat a new Character – Necro (or any light Class ;D) with the Mask you desire.
2. Do the intro level
3. Buy a white light mask at the AH
4. Put light mask (from AH) and the Necro Mask into your bank
5. Use a transmutation stone while the items are both at the bank. Stats of the AH mask, appearance of the Necro Mask
6. Delete Char again.
7. Log in with your main, take the Mask wich is now account bound instead of soul bound because you transmutated at the bank.

You’re welcome

Transmutation onto a white item to make the skin account bound doesn’t require doing it in a bank.

That is fine. Not every trait needs to be a must-have in every build; having a few that are niche, so long as they are good in that niche and that niche is a real niche (not just some crappy build that you made and call it a “niche” build because it sucks in 99% of situations).

But still, a 5k AoE heal is going to be quite good for support. PvE it might not be worth a lot, but that is a great heal for zerging, and for PvP support. I know for sure that I am going to be trying it out for all of my minion builds that I am using Cleric/Shaman gear in.

I love how Lore can be removed in one patch, this is some of the best dialogue ever written in the game, replaced by: LOL I"M SCARLET DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!!!!!!1111

Lets just remove the game, every cool villain in the game and all the interesting lore and the depth and replace it all with scarlet.

Dialogue that will be removed:

Morrigu: Rest well, my darling, Leurent. War led you to this place, and may peace finally embrace you as I once did.

Morrigu: I will mourn my lost love later. Ahead if Fyonna. And her children. Spiders. So horrible. All their legs, crawling all over me…

Morrigu: We will stop Fyonna. All I ask is that if I falter in battle, you stand by my side. Don’t leave me to them.

Fyonna: Oh, my children. There it is.

Fyonna: Now, don’t worry about your mother. I won’t be different. Just stronger.

Morrigu: Fyonna, Countess of Spiders, stand away from the tree. I cannot let you claim Faolain’s prize.

Fyonna: But my children sing to me. Listen.

Fyonna: They sing dark, delicious notes about power and family. As their mother, I have to grant them their wish.

I agree completely with everything the OP said.

I watched the video of the first win. It was organized, yes. But it was also people clustered in one spot, spamming whatever skill they were designated to use for protection of the group or damaging Tequatl.

Not fun.

My server never organized, and so we have never come close to winning. This means lots of people scattered all over the place, but we are moving around using all our skills just to stay alive long enough to get within range of Tequatl. And you know what? It’s fun as heck! I love this battle, with all the variety of ways you can be attacked and from every direction!

We could win, too, if there were no time limit.

My suggestion to ANet: take out the time limit, and base the time between Tequatl appearances upon how quickly the server kills her. On servers where they kill her in less than 15 minutes, have her come back more often. Those folks will be rewarded for their ability to organize. On servers where it takes an hour to drop her, make her come back less often. But at least give everyone a chance, casuals and elites alike.

The whole point is you can’t make sure you have enough not-terrible players to offset the noobs without exploiting the overflow system. No amount of carrying can make up for people not waypointing or turret gunners that don’t use 2.

Having been in a Teq win now it’s painfully clear that as long as the people present aren’t going to just sit there and hope to be carried you can just faceroll it.

Spamming “1” for 5 minutes just to get a guaranteed Rare loot isn’t fun.

Neither is waiting an hour, playing flawlessly and getting absolutely nothing because half your team is made of noobs. Pulling your weight in this fight is not elite. Succeeding at any pveasy content is not and will never be elite. Having your reward for your effort being able to be denied by a small number of people being useless is male bovine excrement.

The only enemies in this fight are your own teammates, and given one of the platforms GW2 was sold on was ‘no griefing ever’, that should never happen. You should not have to hijack overflows with your premade guild team just to be sure that you won’t have victory stolen from you either.

Valor Singus.7049

Finally, TIME: Both the Timer and the Timing. First the Timing, since that is the most easily addressed. Frankly, Tequatl did not spawn nearly enough for a Living Story event. The best bit about the Invasion story line was that even if you missed one event you did not have to wait long for the next one. With Tequatl, chat was often the frequent host of that long car ride cliche, `Is he here yet?` No.` `Is he here yet?` `No.` `Is he here yet?` `No, and if you don`t stop asking we are all going to feed you to him when he does get here!` If something is going to be a major promotional event, then it needs to be something a player can jump into with a minimum amount of fuss.

Second, the Timer. If a player is unable to interact with the timer, then it becomes a punishment mechanic, pure and simple. It is one thing to use them for endurance purposes, i.e. `Can you survive for this length of time?`, and another to use them as an arbitrary means of ending a fight. Mechanically it serves to prevent player participation. The nearest waypoint to the fight is roughly a 1:00 to 1:30 travel time. Two deaths on a 15:00 timer means you have now missed 20% of the fight simply running to get there, not counting whatever loading time. Anyone not there when the fighting begins is also not contributing for that amount of travel time, further hampering the player efforts. This was not so much a problem with the Invasion events because they were timed not to end but to cycle. The two hour wait for Tequatl negates that difference.

Also, like the issue with the mobs, it kills flavor. Why is the big hulking dragon leaving after only 15 minutes? Is he bored? Is he jealous that we are too preoccupied with the mobs to give him the attention he deserves? Is Breaking Bad starting soon and he forgot to program his DVR?

Failure should be tied to either the death of the dragon, or the accomplishment of the dragon`s goals. In that regards, the dragon either needs a target (such as the laser) that it intends to destroy, or the players should have some way of extending the timer by accomplishing goals implying they have prevented the dragon from achieving his.

As it stands, the changes to Tequatl have effectively removed content from the game for some players. Why? Because rather than start from a point that could be scaled up to epic proportions, it started from a point of artificial difficulty. Once it was demonstrated that that difficult could be overcome, those who could afford to flocked to those who had demonstrated the ability, dooming their home servers while complicating things for those native to the ones that had initial success. Players then learn to avoid this event, and others like it, because they have seen that either they will be stranded in an overflow server or left to face an impossible task with insufficient numbers. This is not to say that difficult content should not be added to the game; we WANT a challenge, we WANT to experience glorious and epic events. Unfortunately, Tequatl has not yet reached that point.

Posted by: Valor Singus.7049

Valor Singus.7049

To open, no, I have not killed Tequatl. My home server is Divinity`s Reach, and as far as I can tell its pretty much been a ghost town in Sparkfly Fen once people got their wings. Those of us still showing up appear to be a mix of those waiting for their wings and a few die hard hopefuls, wishing, praying that we might eventually have the bodies to succeed. Otherwise, I am a level 80 War with maxed exotic gear. This is not intended as a complaint or whine, but as honest feedback on the event, what I feel was done well, what was done poorly, and what could be improved for next time.

TEQUATL: The big man himself, the star of the show and…he was perfect! He had a good mix of abilities to test a player`s skills and builds. The wave mechanic especially stands out, as it meant players had to pay attention to more than just timing their skills, but also be aware of other game mechanics in order to fully participate. There does appear to be a bit of a hardware issue with the graphics on it, but that is in a consequence of another problem with the event and is at least partially remedied by the NPCs calling the time on those attacks.

FINGERS: The Fingers are another positive in my book. They are good method for keeping the battlefield mobile, were not too difficult to remove by savvy players, and the use of poison was a good choice. The said, there was one problem with them. The fact that they flung their poison field meant that it often became difficult to track the dangerous spots when other environmental factors, such as water, came into play, as well as making it difficult to determine exactly which Finger was causing problems for the individual player. For the next time I suggest centering the poison field on the Fingers themselves, and either increasing their spawn rate, the radius of the field, or both to compensate.

TURRETS: The Turrets were another positive, creating a symbiotic battlefield that required players to work together. My experience with them is that their abilities are well balanced, and do not quite require perfect play in order to be used. That said, there were far too few of them for this event. It is my understanding that the event was designed for 80 people, and yet there are turrets for less than 10% of the players. That makes them an easy source of failure before the event either begins, either through deliberate trolls or players forced AFK. Trolls/AFKers should automatically be factored into any design, as they are a simple reality of the community. You cannot prevent griefers any more than you can prevent the hazards of real life from interfering with the game. In my opinion there should have been at least 8 – 16 turrets, based on the math of 5 man squads, with the ideal number being around ten. (For those wondering, assume the minimum of 80 players for the event. Split them in half, forty going for the dragon and forty sticking by the turrets. Forty broken down into 5 man squads is 8, +2 to compensate for trolls/afk.)
