So now that I’m done laughing hysterically at that battle log, I’ll explain the fun little thing that Flesh Golem can do in fairly niche situations.
Charge applies a crapload of individual instances of damage, fairly small individually. Normally what would happen in an open field is he’d fly by, you’d take a few of those damage ticks in the time it takes from him sending you flying with the knockback and you actually getting out of his damage area. In certain situations, generally when you’re pinned against a wall, although it can happen when he gets “stuck” or if you happen to get carried with him due to his CC, you end up taking a ton of those damage ticks, due to you being stuck in his damage-area for a prolonged period of time.
Essentially, you got stuck in the charge for a longer time than usual, and instead of taking moderate damage you take closer to 100b worth of damage. This is why Golems can destroy siege equipment insanely fast, and why MM zergs can make walls melt like butter with 40+ charges.
So according to that chart… The tallest human can be just about the same height (or in fact a little taller) then the shortest norn…
Well, in real life we only have one race: human. And we got “normal” people so tall as 2.20 m and so small as 1.50 m. And, if you look for some extreme cases (people abnormally tall , towering at 2.70 m, and people very small , with a bare 54 cm), then you can see the great variety that members of a race can have.
So, isn’t really too frightening that the “tallest” of a “small” race can be taller than the “smallest” of a “tall” race, isn’kitten
No, not frightening at all.
Just an interesting observation on a topic that /isn’t/ all anger, rage, bile and venom… unlike so many other threads in these forums…
It’s rather nice, actually.
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
Hi everyone,
just as an heads up, I’m like an “old-school” NES/SNES player from “back in the days”. I started playing videogames when I was like 10 or something, and I’m now 26. As probably everyone at that time, since around that time there was kind of nothing else, I used to play the NES / SNES which gave the whole gaming industry it’s spark, I played games like F-Zero, The Legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, Terranigma and much much more games of this kind.
Now I and many of my fellow gamers from back then are by now much older by age of course, but still…
I myself still get the shivers from listening to those “songs” I’m about to show you, those songs BURNT into my memory, I say this without any shame, I literally nearly kitten myself while playing those games listening to this kind of music and playing those games…
So, my Question is, or well it is not an real question since I’m SURE that probably everyone of the Arenanet Devs. knows those games by the music listened below, do you think you will ever be able to to create such an atmosphere? Such an ambiente and story created with Living Story content? Such an piece of musicial artwork to get an player so much involved into the whole thing that a gamer will get so excited and scared by nearly shatting his pants while encountering an dungeon with a group of people to get to the final villain? Do you really think you can do something like this?
Because if you can, you will be my all time hero Arenanet, if you can create such an thing, such an scenario, I’ll be forever yours, because no game ever was able to accomplish this. And I’m telling you, I’ll not be the only one, if you can do such an thing with the Living Story content, many many players will gather to your game, even if it was through the Super Adventure Box.
Long story short:
I don’t give an single scary “crap” about the new tequatl, he might be stronger, hemight be better, he might be more difficult, but for me, he’ll always be Zaithans little kitten and nothing else, not scared at all, even after your trailer, I don’t give a single crap.
Regards
Sir Masao

I think someone forgot that necromancers use light armor and take like 50% more damage per hit by default than let’s say warrior, have little to no access to protection/evade/block and are somewhat vulnerable to stun etc. Not to mention while in DS your defense is near to nothing.
You can make something like pvt minion master “tank” ok, but other than that it’s pretty ridiculous.
My feeling is that DS “extra hp” doesn’t scale well for builds which don’t especially focus on having a ton of armor/hp/defensive cc etc. Also DS still has that huge problem of not getting back after it got bursted down by some random spike you just couldn’t evade. Not even getting to the conditions going through DS part. It’s so sad.
EHP is not comparable to anything since in this game you can and should evade damage completely at first place. Having a lot of EHP cannot compete with evading all the damage in any way, not even near.
I disagree that GW2 has a dark undertone. It’s all pretty upbeat and light hearted. And many of the villains and evil groups in the game, are not all that cruel, and fall into bad-guy cliches a lot (including twirling their mustache). I don’t see a dark crumbling world at all. It all seems rather tame if you ask me.
GW1 was a lot darker. Human sacrifice, the realm of torment, the underworld, and war in Kryta.

My friend DMs DnD Games a lot, and he always struggles to balance story, gear, and levels and such like that.
this doesn’t apply the same for MMOs since it’s not instance by instance where you can just change something, but for lore aslong as you have a creative mind you can find away to make it work. From something as simple as
“they grabed the wings and made them and used char circuitry and gears to make them run.” to “Half corruption cured but the wings lasted as a sign of ones fall” similar to Konig Des Todes’s explanation. All the way to Silly and almost stupid faceplaming Hybrid races explanations like “my mommy was a silvari who had leafy wings sprouted during her time part of the nightmare court (simular to the starting dragon) my daddy was a charr who saved her then… Plucked her rose bud against her will so to speak, And then they made me =D”
It works you just gotta find a way to do it.
but yeah Rhaegar’s is the best It’s still a back pack just looks different =D
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
I want Trahearne to reveal his master plan of leading our forces to kill Zhaitan just so he could absorb his powers and become the Dragon King. Then he will reignite an invasion on the world with Scarlet as his bride and allow two things to happen:
1. A worthy Plot Twist
2. A chance to kill Trahearne
I agree that the ‘group of hero’s known as dev..i mean destiny’s edge’ (yeah they are so whiny that i don’t even want to remember them) is so lackluster that I’m not even sure why they are even mentioned. They are there to guide the main character, but just end up kittening at one another about past issues while an army of undead are coming to eat everyone’s face off. They seriously couldn’t set that stuff aside for a while? No respect for anyone that selfish. Trahearne is a nooblord that’s only good for his knowledge of orr and the undead…not someone I actually want to follow into combat COUGH LOGAN THACKERAY COUGH. What’s done is done though. Can’t just go back and change all of that. Soooo I’m totally on the side of the OP, Give us a new storyline constructed like the three tier storyline we have while leveling. A new set of characters to be emotionally attached to that aren’t cliche or have flaws that make you want to smother them in their sleep.
No more dragons ZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZZ…no more undead (I’ve been killing undead for years and need something a little more disturbing/scary to destroy for hours/days/months and gasp YEARS1!!11????//!) No more taking a back seat in main story lines.
I want a villain or group that I can really hate. Something that has offended the people of Tyria and that I can relate to or at least get behind to kill. Yeah saving everyone and the world is cool, but what about some justice…or better yet, a story driven by retribution. Queen Jennah NEEDS TO DIE. Logan goes ape kitten…goes a little crazy and wants to avenge her death. Rytlock helps him not completely lose it and channel that rage into keeping the pact between humans and charr from crumbling. Meanwhile the Seraph has a new hotshot prodigy rising through the ranks looking to make a name for himself with any opportunity. The Norn need to take care of business and launch an all out offensive on the sons of svanir. I could go on but the point is that there are so many ways to drive the story here that I can make stuff up on the fly that actually sounds fun or engaging.
(edited by Roofix.8645)
I want to be emotionally invested in this story…like I was in GW1. I can’t get into this story and it drives me nuts. I find myself and my guild mates quitting for months at a time and coming back to see the changes…only to find the short living stories…not that interesting. I liked watching Gwen grow up, standing behind Jora while she dealt with family struggles, and going after my mentor Kormir and seeing her turn into a blind goddess by a crazy demon …those were bad kitten storylines…. now I feel like I just run around and commit genocide on centaur and fight zombies and the occasional dragon…There is nothing that drives me. Divinity’s Edge? Just a bunch of whiny kittenes for the beginning of the game then once trahearne comes he is the storyline hero…and I am his side kick telling him what to do…the game is gorgeous and I love the fast paced fighting, it’s half of what keeps me coming back. And I really enjoy the cooking profession…so please Arena…Anet…please write a kitten good story. There’s so much that can be done.
IT’S NOT VERATA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KILLED HIM 250 YEARS AGO!!!!!! QUIT TRYING TO MAKE ARENANET BRING HIM BACK!!!!!!
I’d say try a necro. If you don’t like it, delete it. As simple as that.
I’d love an elite which continuously spawns highly expendable minions in a small area. Kind of like a minion spawning super well.
icwutudidther
New spells I want are new minions to satisfy a few things that I think could be expanded upon: condi-based minions, self-sustain minions, tank minions, and mass-produced minions. Not necessarily needing 4 of each, but even a single skill that addressed each of those areas would be nice, so minions could have a bit more variety.
And I want Orders.
There could be a potential behind-the-scene story that would explain everything.
Norns are very strong people, surviving in the extreme cold and rough terrain. In order to prosper in these uneasy surroundings, there must be some kind of rite of passage where all the males have to roid up with natural herbs which increase the level of testosterone, which eventually leads to that massive body proportion.
I’m not sure if females are also allowed to participate in this practice, but even if they are, maybe this herb specifically works on male bodies due to their higher level of male hormones or something. Anyway, after this, they are finally acknowledged as true warriors with bigger awkward muscles.
Speaking out of my derriere… sorry. But it would make everything make sense!
Look what happened when they tried to make females un-cute and go see how many female dwarves you see in WoW.
I believe saying that armor sets in GW2 are the most modest in MMOs at this point is a bit too much. However, at the same time there are plenty of titles that are much less conservative. Whole eastern branch of the genre. And some games from the western branch as well.
GW2 is by far one of the best games on the market when it comes to the variety of options. You want skimpy outfit? No problem. You want to cover everything, head to toe? Sure, there are outfits for that. There is plenty of middle ground too. Hell, there are even pants for magic users, they are not forced to wear big blue dresses some people call “robes”. And heavy armor sets that don’t make you choose between wearing a plate and chainmail swimsuit or looking like an offspring of an unholy union between a hedgehog and a scrap heap
The only part at which Anet has somewhat failed in my opinion is disproportion between trench coats and all the other armor models when it comes to medium armor.
And OP, you’re not complaining about a group of armor sets. You’re not even complaining about a single armor set. You have problem with literally 1 piece of 1 set of heavy armor (which, in fact, wouldn’t fit the rest of the set if it was designed differently). And you’re making whole thread about it, in which you accuse Anet of making the Norn females look like underwear models. Don’t you think that is the very definition of overreacting?
For example I think that female variants of both the Duelist armor set and the medium Human cultural t3 look both ridiculous and hideous at the same time. But you won’t see me complaining about it on the forums. I can simply choose not to use them, because there are other, better options.
(edited by Searban.5984)
“Hello, hello. Say, can I ask you a difficult question?”
“I don’t mind. What’s on your mind?”
“I’ve heard of this thing called modesty. How do I figure out which parts of myself I can show to the other races without offending them? How much coverage should I grow on myself?”
“What do you mean?”
“Humans show only a portion of their bodies, while norn show a lot. Charr have fur, so they’re naturally covered; but asura keep much of themselves covered. How do I know what is appropriate?”
“Be conservative, and you risk offending no one.”
“That is true, but is that really the best choice? I would be terribly uncomfortable covered from head to toe.”
“Do whatever you feel is best.” –female sylvari conversation with Fiodh
I agree the T2/T3 cultural is rather skimpy but there are tons of other options avaiable. The T1 is a lot better already, I don’t like the skirt/pants but the rest is awesome. You are not forced to wear cultural armor and if the skimpy parts bother you, you can always replace them with pieces from another set.
It would be nice to have more cultural armor options that cover the body a bit more, but nobody is forcing you to buy the T2/T3 sets. Lots of people also like armor that shows skin, because it shows their tattoos nicely. And let’s face it, the majority of players enjoys seeing some skin, especially if it’s females. So you can’t avoid having some skimpy sets in the game.
Just because there are armors that show some skin doesn’t mean your character has to look like that. Plenty of options to choose from.
I don’t like too skimpy armor either, so I just go with the more covered looks.

THings have changed for sure.
PvE Necros are fine. Anything short of serious dungeon/fractal running we are perfectly capable of doing, and are arguably the best at (between minions for solo farming and mass AoE for event farming). In serious dungeons we aren’t bad, you can complete any dungeon and fractals just fine, but you will be slightly sub-par in the DPS department to what people are looking for. Again not a huge issue, but its there.
Minions are a lot better. They have gotten a bit of HP/toughness increases, AI has been vastly improved, and Death Nova now does direct damage on death as well.
PvP we are great. Condition and Power builds both work great even up into the highest levels of play (even though condi is favored in the meta), both max-DPS setups and tankier ones, and if you are just looking at hotjoins/yoloQ then even minions are a good setup. Just build more selfishly than if you were on a team.

Living Story and time-gating everything is definitely killing this game for me. If I had known what state the game would be in now before I started, I would’t have wasted any money on this game. As it stands it’s still F2P for me at this point so I log in to create my own challenges, and try to ignore the LS super-casual crap as much as possible unless there’s some huge reward involved that I’d be crazy to pass up (gauntlet farming, invasion farming).
But it’s pretty pathetic that half of the game is still in beta state a year after release. How many class traits are still non-functional? How many high-value weapon and armor skins are still using the default white icons? How many tooltips are still inaccurate and/or missing crucial information?
Take a break from the Living Story crap for just a month and put two of those teams you have on actual, quality bugfix duty. Polish the parts of the game that have been pathetically broken since release. Make it feel like more than a beta test.
tl;dr (and I guess bottom line): while I would like to see an improved Living Story (which I am hoping for), players shouldn’t neglect the awesome base game we have, and should focus more on doing what they enjoy rather than grabbing achievements for things they don’t like.
That’s just a symptom of the actual problem. The actual problem is that the developers decided, post-release, that they’d rather make the game for Demographic B instead of Demographic A.
The type of game each Demographic enjoys are at opposite ends of the spectrum; one group wants an enjoyable journey (story, exploration, etc) and the other only wants to race to a series of destinations (achievements, gear, etc). This game was conceived and launched as a “journey” game. But somewhere after release ArenaNet realized just how much money there was to make from the “destination” crowd.
Now all of this could be acceptable – not ideal, but acceptable – for the “journey” crowd if the developers weren’t pouring every ounce of energy into a never-ending series of new destinations. Having no new journeys being added to the game is bad. Watching the “destination” crowd trample one another in an effort to reach the current destination before it’s removed and another added in its place is worse. Realized that the developers don’t care about the journey anymore is worst of all.
So recently I’ve been seeing a lot of hate for the living story – so many flame threads about how it sucks and how it’s “killing the game”.
Now I’ll be one of the first to agree that in order for the living story to work, it requires much more polish – the storyline needs to be both conveyed more fluidly and have more relevance to the world of Tyria that we all know and love. Wasting time and effort on grindy achievements and half-baked events seems daft when it never seems cohesive with the story or world that we are familiar with – unless it fits perfectly with certain developing story lines. I think what everyone wants to see is a more polished experience with better-rounded ideas. I feel one way to achieve this would be to take more time on each living story installment, going back to once per month or even every 2 months – but that’s a different story.
That isn’t to say I haven’t enjoyed some things to come out of Living Story. Unfortunately I missed the whole Flame & Frost saga, but heard very good things about it. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bazaar of the Four Winds and wished there was more “meaty” content to do in the area. A couple of Scarlet’s invasions were fun, the Aetherblade JP is an insane addition and the return of SAB is great.
I think the main problem that players are having is feeling like they are “forced” to play the living story, because it won’t be there for much longer. I feel like this is a shame because they are cutting themselves off from the main game and not doing anything else. Throughout the past few living stories, not once did I try to max out all of the achievements: I did a few events, saw the sights, etc. and when I’d had enough, went back to doing map completion, dungeons, WvW and just messing around. And it was great – I really don’t understand why people feel like the Living Story is the be-all, end-all; if you don’t like what’s happening, seriously just don’t do it. It won’t damage your life in any way at all. Make the ethos “Play the way you want” work for you – (but it doesn’t mean being handed skins and loot btw).
tl;dr (and I guess bottom line): while I would like to see an improved Living Story (which I am hoping for), players shouldn’t neglect the awesome base game we have, and should focus more on doing what they enjoy rather than grabbing achievements for things they don’t like.
Those heralds could even mention our personal Top 2-5 events we did already in that zone (for the gazillions time). And thus personalize our game experience.
ie. “Well-met, arent you the hero who did / saved /killed…” <Top1 event name> “…and also was responsible for…” <Top2 event name>
This. Not to be egoistic here or anything ( :p ), but having a little recognition for everything player characters have done in the GW2 timeline would mean a lot. While the end of our “Personal” Story is actually all about Trahearne and Zhaitan was officially defeated thanks to Destiny’s Edge and the Pact, our characters played a significant role. We also helped Kiel when the Karka invaded, we defeated the Molten Alliance with Rox & Braham and we momentarily stopped Scarlet. Having just a couple of NPCs noticing that we’re the Heroes of Tyria, would really help in feeling like we’re a part of a story and it would provide a sense of history.
That said, I really appreciated Scarlet’s gift.
[DV] – megaboss community
First, I am more into WvW and spvp, BUT interessting stories/cutscenes or some events I like, too
…but mostly wont have the time to play them at the current pace
…and often even would like to skip the whole time-consumeing pve-mob-bashing/dungeon crawling around the story itself.
…like to experience/read them in my “personal order” (like skipping chapters in a book)
I am not saying slow it down, nor do I believe that the temporariness of those living stories is bad at all or that you should eliminate the mobs for me… ^^
BUT I strongly believe there should be a way to keep some “essence of those stories” or history / lore in the game. Kinda like in RL people have tendencies to not let go of some of their tales (ie. old people always telling their war stories like it was yesterday).
The tech needed is already in place as some players mentioned:
My history tab
Could be expanded with a “MY living world” tab.
—> Compressing the whole LS-chapters into brief paragraphs with links and act like a “newspaper” directing us (…hinting) to npcs (heralds, heroes or books) with further information.
—> Even “store” additional infos we might have gathered ourselves (i.e. tied together with some of the achievement we earned while the story was around)
Cut scenes
“Flame and Frost” had a system which let us “revisit” the cutscenes
—>My char may not have been present, but those 2 heroes were and may “VIviDly” retell what happend like its happening now
Text Splitting
NPC dialogues and books CAN indeed hold even large text amounts if you split them into dialogue / chapters / paragraphs. Careful phrased, you dont even need too much work to create these and could recycle those filler-texts. i.e.
[LS Text/cutscene 1.Part]
<… and then she/he said… > OR <leave>
[LS Text/cutscene 2.Part]
<looks around suspiciously / bored / agonized / smiling …before continueing> OR <leave>
[LS Text/cutscene 3.Part]
…etc.
For book pages you can do the same, ie. “next page is tainted / burnt /… continue reading OR leave”
Zone Event heralds
Guessing there might be some internal tracking, which events we participated in and maybe even how often we done them. If not … scripting it wouldnt take more than a work day and those heralds could:
—> Randomly pointing out events we never had played before in that particular zone.
i.e. “Have you heard anything about…” <event name>
OR
“I guess you have never noticed whats going on in/near” <zonal sub region>
—> Those heralds could even mention our personal Top 2-5 events we did already in that zone (for the gazillions time). And thus personalize our game experience.
ie. “Well-met, arent you the hero who did / saved /killed…” <Top1 event name> “…and also was responsible for…” <Top2 event name>
I really appreciate that there are no question marks in this game, but heard about DEVs who are wondering why we dont talk about their new created events. Cause often most of us have problems discerning which events are new, may have missed out before or maybe even forgot them. Similiar things will happen to tales and stories as time progresses and the above simple ideas might help players to keep track a little bit more.
My story’s best friend died and I got upstaged by a bowl of salad….
Ain’t life in Rapture grand?
The situation:
The World is in danger. The band that brought the fight to the source of the problem is broken, the organizations that could do something refuse to work together, the end is near.
The solution:
Someone has to take charge, beat senses into the organizations, and once again bring the fight to the source of the problem.
The problem:
That someone is Trahearne
Trahearne is a firstborn of Sylvari, a race of Salads (literally). This particular firstborn decided he wants to be a Necromancer, bringing his full name to Trahearne, Salad Necromancer.
Zhaitan is an elder dragon which was born when Cthulhu and Medusa were emo teens. His particular powers are rising sunken lands and rising the undead. His full name is Zhaitan, the Necromantic Elder Dragon.
So, we have a Dragon Necromancer attacking the world. In retaliation, the world unites under a Salad Necromancer. After the Dragon Necromancer died, the Salad Necromancer is officially in charge. You may have noticed that the title “Necromancer” is still around, so at the end of the day, The Undead rules over the world. Well played.
Trahearne was introduced during the battle for Claw Island. In that particular mission, he demonstrated clairvoyant level of prediction, but nothing of particular about his leadership. Indeed, if there’s one leadership capability he demonstrated, it was “follow a more competent person”.
After that, Trahearne, being a Salad, suggests that we go seek the wisdom of Salad Goddess, and through her “vision”, we were told that Trahearne will be the leader of the world. At this point, the Salad Necromancer was good enough to know he’s actually not a commander, but merely a scholar. The Salad Goddess said “all is well” and gave him Salad Ultima Weapon.
At this point, Trahearne again demonstrates his leadership capability by following you around. After helping your particular organization, YOU suggested that maybe, uniting is good if you all don’t wanna die.
After that, YOU send for the others to meet. YOU beat senses into their heads. And yet SALAD NECROMANCER suddenly “has the respect of the three organizations”
What did Trahearne do that he gained their respect? Absolutely nothing.
What had Trahearne demonstrated that he has the capability to actually lead? Absolutely nothing
What did Trahearne get credit for? ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING
The real problem with Trahearne is the fact that he doesn’t deserve even a lick of what he gets. Aside from what a Salad Goddess said about her own child, there is no evidence that Trahearne is even remotely capable of doing what he’s supposed to do.
For battle of retaking Claw Island, everything Trahearne did can be surmised as this:
Trahearne: we have a big battle in front of us everyone! ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Vigil: Sir, we have manpower, we can describes everything in detail
Priory: Sir, we have firepower, we can yadda yadda
Whispers: Sir, we have agility, we can dabba dabba
Trahearne: Sounds good, now do what you wanna do. I’ll sit back and watch
No questions, no recap, nothing. Claw Island was successfully retaken not because of Trahearne’s leadership, but precisely because he didn’t take any part in it, and let everybody do what they were about to do anyway
And yet, by the time the battle is over, an asura said “there was 1 : gazillion chance we’d succeed, you know” and people answered “if that 1 is Trahearne, I’ll take my chances”
It insults the player’s intelligence and hard work. What he DID do, was going up the highest platform available, put serious firepower around him, and ordered us to do the job. When the big bad boss came, instead of giving advice, he described the Obvious.
He described things like “those green gloopy mess he dropped is poisonous, don’t come into contact with it”. Well, guess what, Marshal Obvious, everyone at the front line already knows that, primarily because someone has gotten into contact with it before you said anything. That’s the kind of information you break out BEFORE the mission.
In short, Trahearne, a lone scholar obsessed with Orr without any experience in organizations, especially regarding military, economy, logistics, and such, becomes a leader just because. And he became the leader in the first place because THE PACT LEADERS LISTENED TO US WHEN WE NOMINATED HIM. You’d think that regarding respect, we have more than Trahearne do.
The real solution:
Get rid of Trahearne entirely. Leave no mark of his existence.
Replace Trahearne with Destiny’s Edge. Personal storyline thus becomes you trying to consolidate them before engaging the other orders
The dungeons tell the Lore of each places instead. CoF, for example, tells the story of Flame Legion. AC tells the story of the Searing.
There.
Huff huff… rant over
(edited by Raestloz.7134)
Conclusion: write Trahearne out and get awesome stuff for Destiny’s Edge.
No, write both Trahearne and Destiny’s Edge out, and make the player the main character. The game should not be a vehicle to sell Guild Wars novels. A game should be about the players. We should be the stars of the show.
I’m totally okay with being a side figure. All this “you’re the best of the best bestest world saving hero” is so old and tried I can barely stand it, especially in an MMO setting, where you really have to try hard to unsee all those other one-of-a-kind chosen ones running around.
