Hello all!
I checked with the Team and we’re going to be putting the chests back in so you’ll be able to redeem your cyphers. Sorry about the confusion!
Huzzah! Thanks for following up Danicia!
Yer welcome!
Evon Gnashblade - Hero of Lion's Arch
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294
With the upcoming battle at Lion’s Arch, we’re going to need a true leader! Evon Gnashblade has proven to everyone that he’s the true hero of LA, and I predict he’ll be saving the city for a second time. Councilwoman Kiel on the other hand will probably just ask our hero characters to do all her work, allowing her to plot her next evil moves. That said, it’s time for #Team Gnashblade to take up arms.
Also, please be sure to stop by the Black Lion Trading Post to pick up some new hardware for yourself. Boxes of Chocolates and the new Harp are available now!
Here is a list of problems currently being experienced at least on JQ:
1. Civilian Counter doesn’t reset between rounds. No awards for civilian saves are given since we are permanently over the threshold. (currently at 7700)
2. Lawson event is stuck permanently. Since the instance does not reset neither does his event, cannot be completed.
3. Moa racing event does not award achievement for saving all 7 moas even if you save all 7 and get event credit.
4. Defense events have just stopped starting. Have been unable to get hold the line daily achievement because there are no more defense events to do.
5. Rubble piles respawn but the items inside them don’t. I don’t know if this is a bug or not, but it is annoying to search for them when you keep coming across ones that don’t contain anything.
Hopefully these issues can be solved soon, thank you.
Option to get High Res video intro to LS?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Zylonite.5913
It is such a shame that you guys design a great intro video into the Living Story and it plays on low resolution of almost 480i resolution. It is so bad that I just click skip….
Why not add the option or just get the high res video available in game. Yes the patch size will go from 300 MB to 900 MB but we live in 2014 and 25-50 Mbits internet is not hard to get.
“Old-fashioned Synergetics texts call them ley lines.” If I had to guess, I’d say Synergetics figured out they exist but never bothered to track them down, so technically the Inquest were the ones to prove it.
on calendars: seasons are unstable things. you have your soltices and equinoxes accurately happening, but that’s the only accuracy there is. the whole fact that human wintersday was about “will spring show up early or late this year” is proof that they don’t really base the calendar on accuracy though. a change to a solar calendar could make it more accurate.
and i don’t think “lore is kitten”, i just think that whining (because it’s gotten to the point where it became that) for months about incredibly minor changes as if it destroyed the canon is too much.
on those changes: the updates are already mostly month-long. rytlock is staying there another two weeks, just like the rest of the origins of madness content. if everything is spoonfed (by directing us at every little thing) then it loses the sense of discovery that you get when such things happen.
It.. was.. the gods… influence… The gods caused winter to expand or not. The days of the calendar stayed in place too – it was just affecting whether or not there’d be snow during spring. Their calendar had never changed.
And you know that YOU were the one to bring this up. I didn’t even mention the calendar change! I mentioned that they’ve confirmed via Angel that the two timelines progress at the same rate. So it’s not whining, because you, not me the so-called “whiner” brought it up.
And the updates aren’t always month long. I mean, Kasmeer and co aren’t at the Marionette anymore and the instance in LA is no longer available (no clue about the probes or the lair or Rytlock). And remember Twilight Assault? Two weeks not four. Halloween was, iirc, three this past time.
i doubt they’ll nuke LA for good, but earlier today i was talking with guildies how i really, really would like it if DR became the new hub, and they spread out things more. make that city worth visiting for more than visual spectacle.
DR already has that exclusive place… They’ll make DR a hub to promote people to buy that BS pass! OH SHI-
I don’t want DR to be the new hub.. It’s very pretty but it’s the human city and I am not a human.
Besides the Grove has a far better, far more centralized, layout which makes it much quicker to get from place to place – DR is very spread out. – Rata Sum isn’t too bad either.
Hoelbrak is too spread out and the Black Citadel is a nightmare to navigate.
My vote’s on the Grove or Rata Sum. Pitiful humans…
Pfft.
Ebonhawke all the way. You got the TP, crafters, and Bank all along the same strip with no evetns and a non-contested WP nearby. Just add in a Mystic Forge and gates to the other cities (or an option at that gate to go to the other cities) and it’s in.
But even that’s not true. The new hub will be…
Wait for it…
Waaaiit for it…
SCARLET’S BASE! We’re commandeering the flying drill after she attacks, and it’ll move about Tyria as our base of operations from here on out.
Just got into EotM. Taimi has confirmed the probes exist to find ley lines- specifically the biggest and strongest. Also, apparently Synergetics discovered them a long time back.
How far is “a long time back”?
Scarlet discovered their existence thanks to Thaumanova. Which was just before the PS. Which places it in late 1324 or early 1325 AE. It’s now 1327 AE.
To a little kid like Taimi, 2-3 years can be a long time.

DR is prettier. thus it gets my vote.
Just to throw some fuel on the fire- when talking to Marjory, your character guesses that the change of color in the probe in Sanctum Harbor means it’s found what it’s looking for. Hopefully, that rules out an Elder Dragon… although ANet does want players to spread out, and nuking the hub would certainly accomplish that for a time.
Thoughts?

Nice catch Glestad, I think you might be onto something. The screens show some convo missing. Do you know when Rytlock and his search party spawn? Also I’m curious how did you figure out which waypoints there were using or heading to?
Well the gods left the world and are nowhere to be seen so for them to suddenly appear would be against the lore. It also wouldnt be fair against other players who dont play human so ‘No’ I can not agree with you on this one.
A cute and neat thing they could’ve done in the PS was to ask if your 1st word in the name is your 1st name. I would say most people followed that order, and if that isn’t the case the game would just treat your name as it does now.
On the other hand, if you had nominated what your first name would be, closer NPC’s like the current band of heroes(Braham etc.) could call you by your first name only to signify the bond between your toon and them. This would’ve been particularly awesome in the newest story instance!
on GW1, you had to pick a first name and a last name (or last names).
then the game proceeded to ignore that and call you by your full name all the time.
Checkmate atheists?! Does that mean you believe the Elder Dragons…are GOD? :-P
1. Civilians die.
2. Civilians get sent to the Underworld.
Wait right there. Why would they remain there?

“It is where all newly dead souls are brought before they are sent to their final destinations.”
So how would this benefit Dhuum?

Well, wouldn’t dying send you to the Underworld, and thus be in a domain where Dhuum could very much benefit from you?
You would have to still be killed IN the underworld for it to benefit Dhuum.

Hrm. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade but I’ll have to take the blame for inflating this beyond what it is. At the time I was creating the content in Black Citadel, everyone was abuzz about waves of “mysterious” bird deaths and thinking it was a sign of something apocalyptic, when in every case the deaths were quite ordinary and not notable.
When I thought about the absence of gargoyles from the areas of Ascalon where they used to live in large numbers (which, as a player, is a detail I would have noticed), I wanted to say something about it, but without saying what actually happened to them. With the conversation on the scholar in the Black Citadel, I didn’t set out to answer that question as much as I wanted to explore how some people in Tyria, just as they do in real life, respond when presented with things in nature they don’t have an explanation for.
Gargoyles and Mergoyles have disappeared, and at least one person is looking into it. Whether we expand on that story in the future comes down to whether the story of their absence is interesting enough to be worth exploring, and fits in with other stories we want to tell.
As long as there is a story that will be told.
It is just annoying having something like this in the timeline and not much mentioning beyond that.
It could be somethign symbolic or just something natural. They went away, they got the flu, who knows.
The only thing i might want is a little bone thrown to us here and there. Update something secretly, even though we are right now a bit buzzed about Rythlok roaming around and we just now noticed.
If it is coming someday, just place it somwhere, so we can find some little clues.
if it is happening “now” make it a bit more visible
I love it when old threads are re-animated necro-style :P I would definitely say that I’ve got a good feeling that they have SOMETHING planned for this. It just doesn’t seem like them to throw out a thread like this without something behind it. I mean there are dozens of other monster types missing that have no mention whatsoever.

I know that I’m a digger, but what do you think about ending of AC story?
" King Adelbern: “You’ve defeated me, but what’ve you gained? Much deadlier things stir beneath us. They’ll consume you all!” "
2 legendaries down and I only have rank… 12 in wvw. What a silly silly requirement for new players
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
To follow up, the client optimizations that I mentioned before went out with the build today. Let me know if you saw improvements. Feel free to list your specs too!

The entrance is hidden, and there is a invisible wall, so you can’t get over the entrance behind the bushes.
I tried it a few minutes ago, looks like there is a new wall there, the old “way” to get in isn’t available anymore. Look’s like they updated it with the last patch or something.
No. The Thaumanova incident revealed their existence, and the fact there’s an intersection under/at/above Thaumanova, but that didn’t show where all the others are.
From the Thaumanova fractal:
Scarlet Briar: At least they helped identify the network of magical channels that crisscross the globe. That was a breakthrough. Now we know how NOT to do this kind of research right on an intersection of those channels. Live and learn, right?
And honestly, yes. Scarlet going after a ley line would make sense even if we didn’t know that she knew of it. At least, it would make as much sense as her somehow getting a dozen+ krait obelisk shards, or her somehow working with steam creatures, or her somehow easily hijacking the Watchknights, or her somehow being undetected by the Priory despite being right underneath them, or her somehow capturing one of the best thieves in existence (Caithe) and knowing said thief’s secret (which apparently everyone forgot about).
Shhh, don’t forget putting an energy probe right in front of the Whispers HQ without anyone noticing or caring for weeks. In addition to knowing where the HQ is.
And the mention of her breaking with Teyo into Rata Sum’s archives for the upcoming Snaff competition. That would place the whole Inquest dabbling some time before the PS whereas the short-story states that after the Inquest deal she wandered several months then stayed with the hylek. Teyo’s Scarlet’s former krewemate and the one who stole the Snaff Savant’s Translocator which apparently was supposed to serve as explanation for Scarlet’s crazy teleporting around, but this makes the whole “so where does thaumanova fit in” deal even more confusing.
Then we also have her base in Lion’s Arch, her somehow working with renegade courtiers that seem to be in just for the evulz and totally don’t mind following her instead of idk gutting her, her acquiring plans of the completely new pact airships without the pact caring or noticing and her lack of reason WHY countless mobs of pirates and whatever alliances should be afraid of her.
…yeah sorry I just had to butt in when I saw the chance cough cough. Tho if anything I mentioned got cleared up and I missed it feel free to correct. :p
Anywayyys, I’ve been thinking and trying to see the whole plot from another angle. By the end of the PS we have a multiracial army and even anti-dragon lasers. So unless there was a big new ‘hindrance’ to overcome, the next dragon assault would be really short because we already have the tech and even if it’d be destroyed we’d still have the knowledge to remake it. Only Primordus and the DSD would offer another kind of problem where our tech might be useless or at least less efficient because they’re underground and underwater respectively. ‘Might’.
I wonder if Scarlet could be an attempt at a ‘hindrance’. Iiii don’t know how the whole pale-tree convo plays into this because honestly my thinking-resources are drained atm, but assuming the painting on the ceiling was a lieutenant of modremoth or modremoth himself and she’s originally had her own plans how to remake the world the way she likes it but then Modremoth “hijacked” her and now uses her to quicken his awakening (…if he hasn’t awakened yet) and decimate the orders that make up the pact.
…or at least that’s a random thought. Not my favorite theory but my gut feeling tells me it’s either something not too ‘surprising’ or something so out of the blue we couldn’t have possibly guessed it.
(edited by ElysianEternity.6215)
Given how they are now called Energy Probes, it would make more sense that they aren’t used for scanning for something but used to gather energy to empower something.
Let me log on and check real quick. I remember it was right infront of the cave entrance
Edit: Yea ok i just checked and it’s there guarded by some Aetherblades. My bad.
(edited by Xukavi.4320)
everybody says that the X in bloodtide coast is whispers headquarters, yes? So where is the dot representing the probe just outside the cave? is not there. and so are missing the others.
And yes, the X’s are ambiguous, just like i stated.
Yes, the orders are trying to stop Scarlet, but she always followed the plan she have. She think everybody is meaningless, she sees everybody as insects and is just not like her to take a detour from her plan to destroy the orders.
imho.
Last time I checked the Whispers HQ right after the patch there was no Thumper in front of it. I thought they removed it from there.
What Scarlet hates is conforming to a pre-existing group or falling in line under others. She’s egocentric to the max and her persona is that she views herself as a “special snowflake” character, actively trying to make such a reality… when it isn’t anywhere close to such, in all honesty (probably because she’s trying to be so special).
She doesn’t hate the Nightmare Court’s ideals, nor the court itself. She hates being part of a group she didn’t make/doesn’t lead. So even if she’s just like a courtier, she will always refuse the notion that she is a courtier.

it’s definitely meant to be the marionette’s sword.
http://www.selectgame.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Guild-Wars-2-Marionete-de-Scarlet-Briar.jpg
Anyone think the Arrows are related to her drawing the Elder dragons to LA for a single fight, let them fight each other and then “mari-laser” them down?
I don’t think the Marionette has any long-term purpose actually. If you fail the event and talk to the NPCs immediately after, they say the Marionette blew up.
It’s bait, and the heroes are the fish. The “weapon test” seems to be a red herring. Which leads into Rox’s “culling the herd” theory.
Which makes me think even more that all she’s doing right now is intentionally weakening various groups – Hoelbrak and Iron Legion (Molten Alliance attacks); Lion’s Arch (Mai Trin); Kryta (Tower of Nightmares – “stupid humans, always in my way” I wonder how…); and now adventurers in general. And at the same time, she’s building an army, twisting them in various ways (dredge undergoing the Baelfire ritual of the Flame Legion; Nightmare Court and krait undergoing that toxin appearance).
Makes me think that all she’s been doing – and given the X’s on the map, is going to do next as well – is just to weaken the major players of Tyria.
Hi Etaoin,
You pointed out that there was an entity at the Thaumanova Reactor? Would you or anyone else be able to clarify this for us? Which entity are you referring to? Thanks
The thing that’s just like a Diamond Djinn (aka air element djinn) in Nightfall.
The thing called Thaumanova Anomaly
