The length of a year pretty much depends on the size of the planet’s orbit. The further away a planet is away from the star the longer the year. Mass also have something to do with it but that doesn’t matter.

The number of hours in a single day depends on the planet’s spin speed.

A planet’s year can be anything. So I don’t know what is all the fuss about that.

I hope these preocupations are explained in the next update. It concerns me because there is a HUGE load of questions and mysteries unaswered yet. And if the patch is more or less the same size as this, I’m afraid we might no get much and leave them for the next season.

Then, do you think it is the writers’ duty to answer any and all questions?

The difference lies within the execution. Zhaitan didn’t send all of its forces to Lion’s Arch in a single, fast and coordinated assault. It didn’t use toxic substances that would effectively make everyone flee, die or keep everyone else busy trying to save others, on top of all her forces wrecking the place and fighting us off. Nor did he exploit the weaknesses the city had (air attacks).

Had only the alliances turn up and attack, we probably would be fighting them off and taking the city back somewhat easily. But the misma, according to the reports, have killed hundreds of Lionguards and citizens, and slowly killing those who barely survived while making it virtually impossible to fight for long periods of time against the stationed forces there.

The Ship’s Council not making any preparations does seem… stupid and badly explained. “Lol wut? Attack us AGAIN with airships we’ve long known she has, after knowing she found something she wants in here, having clear evidence of her intentions and knowing months ago she intended to infiltrate us to weaken our defenses? You’re talkin’ crazy, darlin.”

I hope there’s some explanation regarding this on the last update, but I’m not getting my hopes up on that.

Remember that all other stories have left unanswered questions too.

Dear ANet writers,

Yeah, not so much retconned or broken by Scarlet – people love to exagerate it a lot – but it really bends the lore to unquestionable points which in most people’s eyes becomes breaking because they often presume things are more set in stone than they are. Which is part of Anet’s issue – they give too little to explain things, people then make presumptions (justifiably so presumptions mind you!) then it turns out that the unknown gets filled in with something different or an individual was simply just wrong.

The worst crimes Scarlet offers was her short story, second to worst is getting the krait to work with her. The former got less offending later on, but initially she was presenting as being a sylvari who studied under the greatest norn blacksmith, under an expert sniper, all three asuran colleges (something no asura has done – and she did within a year each), and under hylek – the last being “just because she could at the time, not because she wanted to or was interested in it.” She was outright presented as borderline Mary Sue, especially since she met attempts to use her as a scapegoat, attempts to kill her, and the loss of her experiment stuff with the same “I don’t care!” reaction. Topped off with “she saw the Eternal Alchemy and learned about all there is!” This later got dumbed down in the colleges and Eternal Alchemy bit, with the former being specialized courses, and the latter via “she didn’t actually see what she thought she saw” later turned into “it was all in her mind… kind of”.

The krait working for her has yet to be clarified. She somehow got obelisk shards, and she somehow threatened the enslaving race of krait whom view themselves superior to all into working for her to get their prophets made… and they complied without question.

The biggest issue with Scarlet is how she’s delivered – and this issue extends throughout the Living World. There have been pieces this improved greatly (Tower of Nightmares stuff, sans the lack of why krait didn’t just gut Scarlet, is perhaps the best example). Second issue is that there is no character development presented. Take how she is when she wakes up, and sans some paranoia over some entity that messed with her mind after she went into Omadd’s device – something unknown until the past month (aka we went a full half year, more or less, not knowing the only thing to develop her) – and compare her to now, and you get practically no difference. Again, the only difference is in her two journals of her talking to herself about the unknown entity. So even her interactions with all others remains unchanged. And the third biggest issue is how everyone likes her – the blacksmith who rarely takes in trainees? Takes her in. The gladium who’s a loner and hates everyone? Teaches her for two years. The asura who are paranoid on a whole? Gives her their secrets. All six groups she takes in as minions? Follows her even after the failure of her promises. Yeah… what?

Yeah really they haven’t retconned a whole lot – and the things they did were small.
The movement of the world was back-tracked on a little, but that’s not retconning since NPC’s can be wrong about things and have been shown to be.

I don’t think the lore is broken – but I do think that a lot of the Scarlet stuff has been very very very poorly written. People don’t like it and it doesn’t always make logical sense given the way narratives usually work – so people look at how badly written it is and how wrong it feels in the context of the GW universe, and for some reason decide that it is therefore breaking everything.

A great many threads spread all across the forum have people screaming bloody murder over the lore getting broken, kicked, shattered, and has a host of other nasty things happening to it.
There are supposed things Scarlet does that break the lore.
How Scarlet’s very existence breaks the lore.
How they had to retcon established lore for the Living World story.
Finally, how could we forget, the fact they retconned as much as the time and date we’re playing at in universe.

All of these seem unlikely to me, but as always, when in doubt, ask someone who knows more about than you do!

So, where and how has the lore been broken?
Was Scarlet the cause or reason for this?
The word retcon has been thrown around a lot, and I mean, a lot! How many retcons has the GW lore really had, and which ones were they?
Last but not least, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you trust the writing team to handle the lore with the care it deserves?

They ley lines are far from dues ex machinas, given that they were revealed – albeit out of game – months before they were revealed in-game, and even then we know about them a month and a half before they became relevant in the plot. A dues ex machina would be no supposition at all – ley lines just have bad supposition.

Like 99.999999% of the living world plot, tbh.

I think I’ve solved the mystery:

She’s digging her way to a Deux Ex Machina. She’ll dig up something that we haven’t heard about or seen before, and which comes right the taff out of nowhere.

That wouldn’t be a Deus Ex Machina (although it may be a Deux Ex Machina?). Deus Ex Machina originates in old Greek plays where at the end the gods would decent from above (usually on a pulley or some other form of machina) and would swiftly resolve the story. Now in modern times this usually refers to something or someone magically appearing out of nowhere and resolving the plot (usually their appearance has no ties to the plot or has not been built up to). By definition her digging something up (unknown or not) would be well outside Deus Ex Machina as the plot so far has been building up toward this. You might however say “but if it’s some unknown thing then it must be Deus Ex Machina”, well no by that definition every reveal, twist or turn in every fictional story ever would be a Deus Ex Machina. All mystery would be Deus Ex Machina, all big reveals etc etc.
A literal Deus Ex Machina would be if the gods descended from the sky in the next patch and swiftly swatted the big drill out of the sky. Since the gods have not been hinted at (only player speculation so far), and by all account have no relation in this plot.

Actually, we’ve had confirmation by now that the Living World happens after the Personal Story.

Actually we’ve had all sorts of confirmations…

She found the location where it is resting, and has started to dig down towards it so that her Ethercannon can fire at it and kill it. I am sure that’s her plan, but it will most likely backfire badly. She is most likely doing what the sleeping creature wants her to do – help it rise.

So my prediction is that the Ethercannon will basically power the being up and allow it to rise earlier than it would have without Scarlet’s unintentional “help”.

A Pact member tells you after the defeat of Zhaitan that there is “one down, four to go”, so i bet we will see the Rising of Mordremoth, the Jungle Dragon, the sixth and final Elder Dragon to awake.

I repeat again: ‘What does God need with a starship?’ The other dragons woke up just fine on their own, why does Mordremoth need a giant drill?

Skoryy, sylvari thief: “Act now, figure out ‘with wisdom’ later.”
Nanuchka, norn mesmer: “BOOZEAHOL!”

Mmmm well by their nature they’re already corrupted (or else they’d be called ex-dragon minions), however we’ve seen no evidence of them being twice corrupted, so a theory is that once they’re corrupted by one ED then other EDs can’t corrupt them.

Yes we have seen such creatures. Three of them, each corrupted by at least 4 Elder Dragons’ energies – Kralkatorrik, Zhaitan, Primordus, and Jormag. The last linked, by five – the fifth being Mordremoth.

Well then, no non-asuran-experimental multiple corruption :P

But that doesn’t mean anything, seeing as asuran experiments are the only times we see minions of separate dragons interact.

Most likely reasons:

1. She’s trying to access the ley lines in order to power something.
2. She’s trying to access the ley lines in order to feed something.
3. She’s trying to snap the ley lines in order to starve something.
4. She’s trying to access the ley lines because [something] is there already and she wants to reach it for [reasons].

What would Scarlet want with Glint’s child? Why would it know anything about Destiny’s Edge when by your theory it’s been locked underground for hundreds of years? Why would Scarlet want a branded army, for that rate? She doesn’t care about armies, she has plenty and still only sees them as something to keep us heroes busy while she digs in the harbor.

Taimi seems to understand Scarlet better than anyone else (she was right about the thumpers during the Marionette and she seemed to know what was going on better than most in Edge of the Mists) and she says Scarlet has moved on from Lion’s Arch. We did see Scarlet during the beginning of the invasion, but I guess she’s moved elsewhere (like Thaumanova – a place where reality was already torn) for her final target?

Again, Taimi is wrong. We know that Scarlet is on top of the drill, because we get aerial surveillance cutscenes, but not a single one of the characters, including the ones we play, knows that. Nobody has seen Scarlet because she’s staying far out of reach. Taimi’s information relies solely on the accounts of people who were fleeing for their lives as their world literally crashed and burned around them. She makes the assumption that nobody seeing Scarlet means she isn’t there.

She isn’t some omniscient Scarlet expert. She’s a kid with a hero complex, and just because she obsesses over Scarlet doesn’t mean she’s developed some supernatural ability to pinpoint her location.

Personally Im all for Largos as the next playable race. I understand peoples love of Tengu from GW1. But Im not a fan of humanoid animals myself – I have 9 characters and not a Charr to be seen XD.

In regards to peoples points about Largos being assassins and only suited to being thieves; Norns are considered to be a brutish heavy handed race, however they can be mesmers, eles, etc. And Asuras known for their superior intellect and technology and still be a smashy smash warrior. And any class could “track, kill and bring proof”.

The wings/ fins could be customised size and pattern wise, and I would assume more discrete breathing masks could be “invented” for those who prefer to see more of their creations face.

Also I think having a couple of starting areas that were a high percentage underwater would be a fun idea and open up some new ideas, and could nicely integrate with bubbles or a bubbles champ being bought into the game.

On the whole I think Anet have a really creative team so even with a race and home environment we know little about, could be beautiful, interesting and different to the norm.

Just to everyone- those are not wings- they are fins-
think manta ray,
not death fairy
They are an underwater race.

its even worse…

First “largos”-human encounter was in 1989 during the film The Abyss. For more reference ask your mom and dad (at least in that movie they looked fishy enough and not so succubus like)

Btw largos are viewed as assassins only, so we only allow the thief class to play them? I know there would be ways around it but to most people they are simply more appealing as npcs.

That is true however I think they could be easily be limited to fighter classes rather than just thief. On the Largo wiki it does say they are assassins and you are right but it also says and I quote,

“Largos are fighters that are trained in killing, often silently, and as such are assassins. They are secretive and do not openly share information – either about them or their techniques – and often work alone. To them, assassination is a way of life rather than a job. In fighting, largos have only been seen to use dual swords or a spear. "

They use swords and such as well. So would people really mind if there was a race that didn’t use magic?
