I stated this during the Ready Up livestream earlier today, but I’ll repeat it again here.

While we are releasing new story related content with the Edge of the Mists update, very little of that content actually occurs inside of the EotM map. Hopefully that alleviates some of your concerns!

At first i thought to myself “Big deal… there has been plenty of LS content that i, as a wvw player, cared nothing about.”

However, here’s the thing. Doing PvE isnt difficult, i can easily take my WvW build character and do LS content. Dungeons, pve zerging, fetch-quests. Simple.

But, the otherway around can be punished… brutally. Infact often the way to build for pve is very wrong for wvw. PvE is easy enough that it promotes squishy, high-damage builds to clear content as far as possible.
In WvW however, this promotes getting insta-gibbed by things you never expect and possibly, litterally, never saw comming.

Why do pve players whine about LW in EoTM – fist of all there are now queues so you can get in anytime you want – no more “I can’t adjust it to my playtime” arguments. There are no server specifications so even low-pop servers gain same amount of people as T1 servers do. You are not restricted to playing alone. The only difference is that there are more hostile creatures – be it Legendary Bosses or players.

Yes it is fair to say that, well this engineer doesn’t deserve ascended level damage from his/her kits because they are still only using exotics. but on the other hand it is equally unfair to say that an engineer who has had ascended/legendary weapons don’t get a buff to their damage until every engineer is equipped with ascended weapons, or they have to wait 5+ months to receive the same buffs available to all other classes (besides ele conjured weapon builds, and I’ve never seen it but a warrior using banners for his/her weapon.) Now you may say that well they are trying to find a way to only buff people who actually have the upgraded equipment and its more difficult then anet anticipated at first, if that is the case ok but then I think we the players would at least like to know because currently it just feels (to me at least) that they just forgot, or because it is the least played class that is affected most by this they just don’t care (looking at the way they reacted to the charr being the least played race).

You may also notice that in the second post right here that originally it appeared that they did buff banners, kits, and conjured weapons to receive this damage bonus but it was fixed as a bug fix here is the quote “•Fixed an unintended damage increase that caused engineer kits, elementalist conjures, and warrior banners to deal more damage than intended.”

So in this update will engineers receive the buff to their kits to increase their damage to ascended levels, as well as elementalists and their conjured weapons, and warrior’s banners?

Everyone else received this buff back on September 3rd (I know most people didn’t craft ascended weapons the first day) when ascended weapons were released which means by the time of this update it will have been 5 months since other builds were given this buff that we were also promised that we would receive eventually. So again will this be the update where these specs receive their overdue buffs? (or are we forced to wait until after they nerf fiery rush?)

Alright guys, Angel has posted a response to a question/comment. It’s time to bombard this single topic with 1,000 questions in hopes of getting at least one more response

One thing I want to ask, and I understand if you can’t answer, will we (the players) be able to see some of this silver-tongued aspect of Scarlet in game? I only ask because thus far Scarlet hasn’t necessarily tried to be that way with us, and so we see a lot more of her frivolousness, brutishness, and her high levels of confidence, but not the silver-tongued, highly tricksy side. I personally think that being unable to see this side of her has lead to some of the disbelief of how she has been able to accomplish what she has done, even if you have well thought out explanations for it. I guess us players always like to see to believe, which isn’t always a bad thing.

Konig!

The interest in “why” and “when” that happened has caught me by surprise. One of the things I’ve learned over the past year is that GW2 fans take an interest in every little detail. And I love that. It means you’re invested and you care—as much as we at ArenaNet do.

Speaking for myself, I not only have to remember the details of the lore from the past (three novels, two games, and almost 9 years worth of added content), but I also have to continue creating lore for future story, make story sense of the gameplay differences between the two games, write dialogue to character voice, script content, maintain style, and do a zillion other things. That adds up to a lot of lore road that I’ve traveled. All I can say is thank goodness for wikis. No single human being could keep all that in their head.

So, I’m not perfect. And yes, from time to time, you will find me or someone else on the team making a mistake.

If we get too afraid to make mistakes in front of you, then we stop saying anything at all, and you get either silence or non-committal mush from us. So, I stick my neck out every time I give a lore talk live or answer an interview without my reference material at hand. It’s a risk I take in order to, hopefully, give you all some answers to your questions. And it’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done in my life.

And, I’m gonna get it wrong sometimes. I’ll beg a bit of forgiveness in advance.

Besides, if the worst I do is get mixed up who was the first Scarlet contacted: Flame Legion or Dredge, then I’m doing better than I thought I was.

I do appreciate that you have my back so that when I say the wrong thing, you set the record straight for folks.

Given that, here’s the true, secret reason the Flame Legion agreed to work with Scarlet. Scarlet duped them. She lied and said that she already had the dredge signed up. She did the same to the dredge, saying she already had the Flame Legion signed on. In this way, she promised them each whatever the other could give, even though she didn’t already have it. They both believed her. Until, of course, they got together and started talking. They learned then that she was a silver-tongued, snake-nosed trickster. By then, however, they WERE both invested, so it would have been foolish to back out just because they’d been duped into working together. By then, they were experiencing the benefits of the alliance.

Wishing you a very happy New Year, my fellow GW2 Lorehound!!

And so glad you all enjoyed the livestream!

Funny thing; at 21:30 Angel explained why the Flame Legion agreed to work with Scarlet and she said that Scarlet offered the dredge technology she had already acquired, but yet…

“Yeah, the flaming cow pies and their fast-talking friend from the city. Never again! Lying silver-tongued, snake-nosed trickster! Never again. "

According to the Veteran Dredge Prisoner from the end of Flame and Frost, it was the Flame Legion that Scarlet had gotten allegiance with first.

Lore: I loved Scarlet before I learned about her background. Her studying in all 3 Asura universities and in a short amount of time kind of killed the character for me. Was it really necessary to have her finish her studies in all three universities? How relevant do you consider it for the whole plot?

“Without too many spoilers, I can only say that yes this is an important part of the over-all plot. Everything that has happened ties into a bigger story that within will come clear with the final four releases of this current story arc in 2014, saying anything more would give away too much! I can say that we’ve learned a lot about how to try and better pace living world releases in the future, in particular from all the great feedback we’ve received this year, and from our recent collaborative development discussion.

For future stories after the current one is completed we’ll work to get a more of the core plot out earlier so folks can get engaged earlier on. We’re also going to try and shorten up stories into more easy to digest chunks that have clear starts and ends, and though there may be a larger plot behind them still we want to tie-up more smaller stories very neatly on a regular basis so it feels like the story has clear progression. Once our current story completes, I think people will realize everything that happened for the last year all suddenly ties together in a pretty awesome way, but waiting a year and a half to find out how anything ties together isn’t something we want to do with our future stories.” ~Colin Johanson

Features: What are you able to tell us about the new features coming in March?
”Right now, absolutely nothing! It’s worth noting, we’ve never said the features we’re bundling together will release in March as well, only that they will be released together after the first living world season has completed. Between china beta testing and the large amount of work we’re doing to better pace the progression and teaching of the game based on those tests, completing our current living world story arc, the big projects we’ve been working on in the background (shh!), and all the features in production we’ve got a lot on our plate currently. We don’t want to list any specific features or timing until we get closer to that point where we’re more sure of exactly what players will see. Once the current living world season is completed, we’ll do a “state of the game” update summarizing the major features under production for the big feature release, as well as where we’re headed beyond that feature release.“ ~Colin Johanson

Races: What about Dwarves as a playable race?
”Well they would have to be stone dwarves, since as far as we know all dwarves were turned into stone!….As far as we know, there are so few of them left alive in the world of Tyria after the battle against the minions of Primordus, there wouldn’t be enough to make a playable race. Poor Ogden is likely very lonely, make sure to visit him and give him a hug! That doesn’t rule them out from being a possibility many many years down the road, but there are a lot of races we’d like to pursue first.” ~Colin Johanson

Achievements: Are you going to change the Map Completion to remove the requirement of WvW?
”We currently have no plans to do this. We’ve been doing a lot of work lately to try and bring our three core game types: PvP, WvW, and PvE more together in their systems of progression, rewards, and unlocking to try and give the game more of a sense of everything you do ties back into the growth of your character. We feel like WvW is a really good middle-ground between PvE and PvP and want to encourage people to think of the mists as part of our world they should explore and experience, we might consider adding the PvP lobby to world exploration for future characters for example to help give more incentive to visit there as well.

That being said, we’re always looking at the systems and features we have in place, and as you’ve seen since we launched if we find something we think is better, we’re not shy about replacing a current system if we find something better for the players, but accomplishes our same goals. Our over-all goal is to encourage all players to experience WvW, to have goals that keep them there long enough they might fall in love with it and take that on as a separate game time; should we find other ways that are as effective as we’ve seen world complete is for encouraging play there to see the different maps, that is just as easy to understand and uses existing systems like world complete, we’ll certainly consider them. It’s something fun to brainstorm on our forums and see what kind of ideas players might!” ~Colin Johanson

WvW: We feel like WvW season 1 rewards were really disappointing. I am not talking about being rewarded with gold or great powerful items in-game but I feel like the work on finishers and titles could have been better. Is that a problem you consider relevant on your side?
”We’ve taken a hard look at all the rewards for season one and we feel like we’ve learned a great deal about how we can do a better job of providing rewards for the next season of WvW after reading the player feedback, and discussing our own experiences as players through season 1.” ~Devon Carver

WvW: Are there any upcoming changes or additions to WvW in 2014 that you can share with us at this time?
“We are really excited about the upcoming “Edge of the Mists” map which we are currently testing with selected guilds. There are a number of things in that map that we are looking forward to possibly using in WvW in the future. We are also getting ready to move WXP to be an account based system. There are more plans on the horizon that are not at a point where we are ready to discuss them to help address some of the core remaining concerns with WvW our player base has raised. That being said our current collaborative development threads on our forums in the WvW section are a great place to help give feedback and shape where these new features will go in the future!” ~Devon Carver

PvP: How do you feel the upcoming PvP changes (gold rewards, removing glory, etc) will contribute to making the game mode more fun and rewarding?
”The short term changes we are making are in large part to bring PvP closer to the rest of the game. Players have told us that when they enter into PvP they are essentially putting all of their game wide goals on hold while they do it. What we are doing now is telling players that they don’t have to do that anymore. So there is the direct impact of PvP contributing to a player’s individual goals of reaching level 80, levelling up an alt or saving up for that special weapon on the trading post.

The result so far has been a lot more players to play with and against in PvP and that is more fun for everyone. More players improve queue times, improved matchups via the ratings system and will give you more friends to meet.

We are also excited about our long term project of ladders and seasons because it will give players a chance to work their way up based on their skill and dedication. It will be fun to see players distinguish themselves from season to season and to know that each season is another opportunity to show that you are the best.” ~John Corpening

Fractals: Why did you feel that resetting everybody to fractal level 30 was the best course of action?
“We were changing the relative difficulties of those levels and really wanted to level the playing field and give everyone a fresh start. We know this devalued some of the work people did but we wanted everyone to have a common language as far as the progression in fractals and didn’t want confusion in terminology for example ’I’m a pre change level 50 fractal’. Now if someone says they are level 50 in fractals everyone understand what they did and what that progress means, this becomes very important as we increase the levels in fractals.” ~Isaiah Cartwright

PvE: Are there any plans to make condition builds more viable in PvE?
”Yes you should see some creatures targeted around weakness to condition in some of the early builds next year.” ~Isaiah Cartwright

Skill Balance ] Why is condition damage intentionally restricted?
”We don’t restriction condition damage in any intentional way there are limits to the number of stacks on a target and gadgets cannot be targeted with conditions both of these are more of a result of our tech. These are limitations that we often work around and we are always looking for more ways to make condition damage interesting across all game types.” ~Isaiah Cartwright

I’m not sure how the two would connect. Three bloodstone locations are known anyways – she’d have better luck looking through human records than using randomly-placed thumpers for tracking such down, since humanity spent nearly a thousand years fighting over them.

But the spores aren’t heat resistant… they’re sensitive to heat. The one during the tower finale was only able to be opened because you used a torch and it was even reacting to the heat of your palm. What she did was made a spore that was invulnerable except to heat (unlike all the others in the open world where standard harvesting tools could open them up). This kind of debunks the Ring of Fire islands idea to me.

Side note: it’s not “isles” but “islands” – though this only makes the Ring of Fire Islands (the most common name for them, not Fire Isles) to be more likely.

However, I found it unlikely that she’s after the Realm of Torment. What would she gain, exactly? That place has been taken over by Kormir and furthermore, the sylvari are agnostic when it comes to the Six Gods – they aren’t sure the Six even exist, so why go after the realm of such a being?

There’s also other possibilities for what’s meant by “the islands” – Orr, for example, is called an island throughout the latter personal storyline, and now we finally have these DO NOT TOUCH thumpers in Orr, the first of the Living World story to affect Orr in some way.

And on Scarlet obtaining an Obelisk Shards – since she obtained shards and not an actual obelisk, it’s possible that they washed ashore, otherwise she’d have had to go into the DSD’s territory. So I wouldn’t be so certain that she’s been so far south – though such does lead precedence to “the islands” referring to the Battle Isles, though they’re supposedly sunken now.

Honestly, the Orr concept sounds more likely to me, since she’s shown disdain for the Pale Tree, the Firstborn, and the Dream – reversing Trahearne’s little ritual to cleanse Orr would be a massive slap in the face to them.

If the Realm of Torment is Scarlet’s main target then we might gain 5 new interesting zones(Domain of Pain, Domain of Fear, Domain of Secrets, Domain of Anguish and the Depths of Madness)!

Using spores to invade the Realm of Torment would not be suprising.

The heat resistant spores could set up a Tower of Nightmares on the Fire Isles as a base and when combined with Scarlet’s armies would set things up for an attempt to breach the Realm of Torment(thus allowing Scarlet the means to cross Torment Creatures, Titans and Margonites with other beings).

The mysterious probes could direct the Elder Dragon energies to the second Tower of Nightmares where it will be used to breach the Door of Komalie and gain access to the Realm of Torment and all it’s secrets(the anomaly was made to give us a boss and thus has nothing to do with the story).

Scarlet may have seen Margonites in her vision which may have been enough to give Scarlet the inspiration to creat the Toxic Hybrid!

in Lore

Posted by: ElysianEternity.6215

ElysianEternity.6215

From the Order of Whispers NPC at Thunderidge we know Scarlet has been seen around the “isles” and that she has shown interest in the Mists.

Now, most theories about what isles could be meant pointed to the sunken battle isles and possible the new WvW Map.

However, what if she has been seen around the Fire Isles, also known as Ring of Fire instead? Could she be looking for a way to access the Foundry of Failed Creations?
With that in mind and looking at what she’s gained from all the previous alliances, what could she be up to? Could the bloodstones finally make a comeback to GW2? Could she be trying to make titans of her own there?

Possible points for that theory
- Fire Isles. They connect to the Mists, specifically the Realm of Torment. Fits the description nicely. Also makes a defensible location, perfect for a base.
- We know Scarlet has been to the Unending Ocean before, seeing as she somehow “magically” obtained pieces of a Krait Obelisk. That’s just south of the Ring of Fire.
- “Rock Tyria to its core”. Well, kinda. Not really. Might fit, because Volcano.
- She tries to make the spores more heat-resistant, if I don’t remember it wrong.
- More of another theory, but if we had gotten the Abaddon fractal instead of the Thaumanova one, we could have seen the battle and still yet foreshadowing to the next LS installment since the Realm of Torment was Abaddon’s prison.

Possible points against that theory
- Well, there’s really nothing that comes to mind why Scarlet would be interested in the Realm of Torment of all things. Or how Azurite, the spores she obtained, or anything would tie together.
- No clear link between Thaumanova, the anomaly and dragon energy to this either.
- Only one alliance to fight there would make sense, namely the Aetherblades. (Or at least I’d be shuddering at the thought of the Molten and Toxic Alliance still being used as minions type A and B after what’s happened so far. Unless we fight their hallucinations like we did in the tower I suppose.)
- No clue what the mysterious probes might accomplish either. Forcing the door open? Idk.

I’m feeling like I’m missing a piece. Tho, I do find the possibility of her base being set up in a new zone with that much potential fairly intriguing. :p

Scarlet as a champion of Primordus

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

Ultimately these alliances are a means to an end: the Toxic Hybrid, the first (or one of the first) iteration of this new Primordus minion. One that is produced through incubation and is born extremely powerful. The only thing missing is Primordus’ corruption. I think this will be part of the next update, and we’ll probably see some form of Destroyer Hybrid or something like that. And Scarlet will now be mass producing these creatures in her factory somewhere (the ‘islands’?) and finally unleashing them on Tyria.

How do you get Primordus’ minions out of the Toxic Hybrid? If you observe the body of the Toxic Hybrid you will note that it holds all the same designs as the sylvari body. It is literally a krait-shaped sylvari. It has the little “sprouting from” central area in the lower back (you’ll note that sylvari underwear comes from here as well as most sylvari cultural armor flowing from this spot).

The Toxic Hybrid is literally no more than a fast-evolving giant krait-shaped sylvari. The “incubation” process is no different than a sylvari in the “golden fruit” of the Pale Tree.

Besides, if Primordus or any other Elder Dragon tried to corrupt Scarlet – or any other sylvari – said sylvari will literally drop dead. That’s their “immunity” to dragon corruption. And if the Toxic Hybrid is anything like that, then it too would just drop dead once touched by Primordus’ corruption. Even the Mordremoth-corrupting-the-Nightmare-Court theory that I have is hindered by this fact.

So Scarlet cannot be a minion of any Elder Dragon.

- Completely off topic but I am desperate for a response on this for some reason. The Lion Statue in LA is facing another way I noticed today. I dont know for how long now. It was facing towards the Mount Maelstrom area and now it is more facing towards the Grove. Please tell me I havent gone insane and tell me your thoughts on it :P I thought it was weird because you dont simply turn a statue, unless it is some special type, but then it is weird that I only notice it now.

It was always facing the Grove’s general direction. It was never facing Mount Maelstrom’s general direction.

Scarlet as a champion of Primordus

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

In the personal story (The Hatchery), we see that Primordus is actually experimenting with alternative forms of corruption; that is, corruption from birth and through incubation (hatching eggs). This is a revelation that we may not have paid much attention to (with our focus on Zhaitan) but all of the Orders agents agree that this is a uniquely new form of corruption. However, this technique proves to be insufficient as the minions that are hatched are too weak to do anything of value and we vanquish them fairly easily. So, Primordus has the corruption-from-birth angle right, but he needs a way to birth minions that are actually powerful.

Well, I’m glad you’re not saying that that storyline shows Primordus corrupting a living being… cuz I’d have to point our you’d be wrong there and I’ve done that so many times. Thank you for saving me the trouble.

Anyways, you’re wrong about those destroyers hatched from the eggs to be too weak – as there are standard destroyers hatching from some of the eggs too. The chances with the crablings are that we disturbed them before they could fully “mature” (so to speak) while within those “eggs” – only the crabs have a “weak” form among the destroyer minions so instead of making new minions they likely went with just mainly featuring crablings.

Given Rata Sum’s history (and present day problems) with Primordus and Destroyers, it’s very possible that the area in general sits atop a draconic leyline (as the Thaumanova Reactor did). And in this case, Primordus’ leyline.

I don’t see why you think that the Elder Dragons get their own leylines. Leylines by nature are the ways in which magic flows through the world itself – living beings may tap into them, but they do not get designated leylines all to themselves. I don’t see why Elder Dragons would be any different, as they would likely be consuming the leylines.

So when Omadd fires up the machine, mixing the chaos magic powering the machine with the dragon magic in the area, Ceara doesn’t completely plunge into the eternal alchemy; instead she becomes saturated in Primordus’ magic. But why didn’t she access the eternal alchemy? Honestly, I think it was a power supply issue.

And why are you saying Omadd’s machine was powered by dragon and chaos magic? The Thaumanova Reactor and Omadd’s machines are two different things. There is nothing to link Omadd to the Inquest anyways. Why didn’t Scarlet access the Eternal Alchemy? Because the machine was merely a sensory deprivation machine – in other words all the thing did was make her blind, deaf, mute, unable to smell, and unable to feel (touch sensation, not emotions though she doesn’t feel that way either :P).

You can slap the lack of Eternal Alchemy (if that’s what Scott meant by “not seeing what she thought she saw”) to flawed asuran theory. However, I would like to point out the Pale Tree’s recent dialogue about Scarlet. She confirms warning Scarlet – possibly referring to that ‘vision’ of Scarlet’s; though that wouldn’t be too odd, doesn’t mean she saw Eternal Alchemy but instead the connection between sylvari, Dream, and Pale Tree (possibly Nightmare too).

We actually experience something like this ourselves in the Asura Infinity Ball personal story. When we supercharge our infinity ball, it produces steam creatures – creatures from an alternative world. THIS is the power that Omadd and Ceara were trying to harness; the power to traverse space and time. But what happens when the infinity ball is NOT supercharged? Well, when we activate it, a bunch of Destroyers come out! Dragon minions, and Primordus’ minions, no less. It may be the case that, when mixing chaos and dragon magic, there is a spectrum of energy input that either taps you into the draconic magic in the area, but if you are able to provide enough energy to the device, that can take you into the eternal alchemy (I know, that sounds awkward).

That makes no sense. You’d note that the first time the Infinity Ball was powered up – with the least amount of power of all three attempts – Steam Creatures came out.

Each time the Infinity Ball showed different possible futures – a total of two or three possible futures (or even one, really). The need for ever-greater power sources in the storyline was just to keep the Infinity Ball “portal” open longer so that actual results rather than random creatures pouring out could be obtained.

The amount of power did not affect what the Infinity Ball did, just how long it was open and how viable to results were. Similarly, the amount of power wouldn’t have effected Omadd’s machine in that kind of way you claim because it was simply depriving Ceara of her five senses; he mentions previous patients dying – this is likely due to shock of losing said senses.

So I talked to Gnashblade today, he told me this: (short summary)Kiel is going to get veryone killed one day, she is playing in the mists while Magnus has the best lionguard out in Caledon Forest, Scarlett will attack LA one day and then we all die.

So…

-Why has Magnus put the best men in Caledon?

-Why did Gnashblade want to research the Abaddon fractal? He fears Scarlett, so what did he want to learn of Abaddon’s defeat to stop Scarlett?

-Kiel playing in the mists is probaply about her and her fractal?

My idea: Evon wants to find a weapon to stop Scarlett, Kie wants to learn about Scarlett’s past

Thoughts?

The only places where such an angle is possible with a group of asura gates that I can think of would be Gate Hub Plaza in LA, or one of the three corners in Rata Sum.

Edit: Scratch Rata Sum, those are all blocked by trees and structures.

All other gates I can think of which has at least 2 near each other in the game would be in Fort Trinity, but that has a blocked off sight, and Ulta Metamagicals in Brisban, which is also blocked off sight. There are the WvW gates, but those are of a different design.

No other place I can think of has multiple gates next to each other.

Looks like Scarlet’s going to attack Lion’s Arch. Or we get a brand new area/heavily altered area.

Greetings all,

Today we are implementing some of the forum changes which we spoke about on this post: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-Wars-2-Forum-Moderation-Updates/

This week, you will be seeing various sub-forums move around and some of the general structure will change. We’re not just removing and moving sub-forums, but we’ll even be adding a sub-forum that many of you have requested!

We’re excited about this change, as it will allow our team to find quality posts and suggestions. We know that many of you feel there has not been much “dev attention” in some of the sub-forums, so hopefully you’ll love these new changes once they’ve all been implemented.

Wow, it’s like I’m really on the 4chan Guild Wars 2 General thread!

Seriously, I understand your criticisms, but please keep it constructive so the administrators of the forum will not be able to justify deleting your posts, if you want to at least spite them.

Also, sadly, believe it or not, technically it could be said human racial skills are NOT conclusive proof of the Gods. Plus I think the avatars to the gods vanished around the time of the end of Nightfall (thus, why none of the shrines in Eye of the North are capable of calling god avatars, not to mention not being shrines dedicated to them, but GW1 had a very strict and clear “area progession = story and timeline progression”) so no, 99% of the population has not.

Now the prayer and avatar skills are, again, still out of the question because that does not always denote divine magic, people could dismiss it as psychosomatic influence on a regular spell. PC Warriors become notably “Hulk Out” when using Rampage (which may or may not be magic, I suspect it’s due to exposure to Asuran Gamma Rays), Necros transform into liches and… Whatever death shroud is, and Hylek can spit on you to turn to into a pig, among other things.

All of which though have perfectly non-godly explanations. And frankly, I question even the Dervish avatar forms myself sometimes because I wonder why members of the Kournan Army had them when they were clearly working in opposition of the gods in the name of Abaddon. (Plus, it makes it disappointing Kournan Acolyte bosses were, thus, not using things like Avatar of Dhuum, Avatar of Abaddon, or Avatar of Menzies. You just know those forms would have been sweet looking and done something crazy.)

Personally, I think the human, non-elite racial skills are psychosomatic influences on magic. The elite ones though, those are probably something divine at work. There is, of course, no real logic behind this besides the idea that by the time you can unlock elite skills, you managed to impress Grenth, Balthazaar, and Melandru (the three best gods, Dwayna, Lyssa, and Kormir are useless and dumb. Especially Kormir.) enough that they’ve decided to make an investment in your character as a new champion for them in Tyria.

And this is where you’re wrong. You see, norn view the Six Gods and Spirits of the Wild to be on par; Eternal Alchemy is not a deity but a concept so it isn’t in the same category as any other deity (nor should it be) by either asura or human; and humans count the Spirits of the Wild as gods.

The Eternal Alchemy is a religion, it’s just a religion practices by rationalists, so they don’t call it that. Still, it’s a belief in a higher power, perhaps not conscious, but it does seem to imply a guiding influence on the world, more akin to Karma.

However, the things grawl worship as well as other similar things, like the mursaat, are not gods. Even if they’re worshiped as gods, that does not make them so.

Who decides that? The Grawl believe it is so. Because the humans and norns do not believe that their gods are legitimate, they are not? Who is the ultimate arbiter, within the lore, of who objectively counts as a god, and who does not?

“Because we do not have conclusive evidence, we should presume the situation is one specific outcome, rather than other implied possibilities.” This is your argument, given all the facts. And it is flawed.

I think that given the evidence we do have, it is the most reasonable assumption to make in the situation.

As Narcemus said, in early pre-release reveals of the lore around the Elder Dragons, they were repeatedly stated to “rival the Six Gods” – never overpower.

“Rival” is a neutral term, it does not confirm that they are stronger, but neither does it deny it.

So Zhaitan lifted a peninsula. Big deal. Balthazar burned that same peninsula to a crisp (and then some), and Melandru took that crisp and made it a verdant landscape. Though Shiro Tagachi, Abaddon used Dwayna’s power to solidify an entire inland sea and a huge forest (both the size of Orr on its own). And Zhaitan can control the magical flow of a few statues within his territory – the gods do that from across the Mists to statues in three separate continents.

The point is not that the achievement’s Zhaitan’s had are greater than the ones they have done, and his power is clearly rooted in one element so he would not have the same variety that they do; the point is that Zhaitan is marking his territory all over theirs, and there doesn’t seem to be anything they can do about it. There are small cases where the gods are shown capable of reclaiming a very small portion of their hold on their own home turf, but only with significant mortal help. If each god were supposed to be equivalent in power to each dragon, you would think that the gods would be perfectly capable, and perfectly well motivated, of driving Zhaitan out of Orr entirely on their own.

You’re arguing about unknowns and unprovables. You cannot prove that something can kill Dhuum, when even a demi-god couldn’t (or the heroes who killed a different god, and aided by the spirits of those who helped Grenth defeat Dhuum, couldn’t either).

Again, just because A can’t defeat B, doesn’t mean that C cannot. Maybe the players just didn’t have the right Kryptonite for the job. Dhuum is clearly very good at not dying, better than Grength’s ability to kill, but that’s no proof that killing him is entirely impossible. It’s very hard to prove that something is impossible.

“You see, Dhuum was not fully destroyed; Grenth was simply not powerful enough to slay him.”

What we’ve been told so far tells us that Grenth tried but couldn’t kill Dhuum.

But it also says that he was not powerfully enough to slay Dhuum, which implies that there Is a power level, in theory, that would be enough. If the intent was that Dhuum could not possibly be killed by an outside force, then the appropriate phrasing would have been “Dhuum was not fully destroyed, as he could not possibly be killed by any force.” All that does is reinforce Grenth’s limitations, not indicate Dhuum’s lack of them.

you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”

Things like the mursaat and the various things worshipped by the grawl (including, I would say, “Badazar”, since I suspect in that case they’re worshipping the statue itself and not what the statue represents…) are distinctly not gods because they fit in other categories, and do not appear to have any of the properties that we do know are associated with the Six. The category of “elder race”, for instance, or “demon”, or, simply, “rock”.

That’s a purely Divine-centric viewpoint though, it may be true for a human researcher who believes in the human gods, but it would not be true of a Norn or Asura, who would place their own spirits or Eternal Alchemy equal to or above the human gods. The term “god” may be defined for humans by its relation to the six Divines, but to those outside their culture, the six human gods may be respected as powerful forces, but they are no more “gods” than any other creature that claims to the term.

However, the things grawl worship as well as other similar things, like the mursaat, are not gods. Even if they’re worshiped as gods, that does not make them so.

I think that until we have evidence to the contrary, it’s fair to assume that the Dragons are stronger than the gods. I mean, Zhaitan alone dominates Orr, and all their various temples and followers and the such, pretty much at will. And he’s just one dragon. The human gods can push him back, to some extent, but they certainly don’t seem to be equal forces.

“Because we do not have conclusive evidence, we should presume the situation is one specific outcome, rather than other implied possibilities.” This is your argument, given all the facts. And it is flawed.

As Narcemus said, in early pre-release reveals of the lore around the Elder Dragons, they were repeatedly stated to “rival the Six Gods” – never overpower.

And Zhaitan can control the magical flow of a few statues within his territory – the gods do that from across the Mists to statues in three separate continents.

Zhaitan has not one-upped the gods in any way.

I was speaking more broadly of the other “deities” of Tyria, which includes the Mursaat, the Dragons, the Spirits, etc. Clearly the inanimate statues got nothin on the human gods, but against many other forces the human gods did not seem capable of dealing with them without human support.

The mursaat hold nothing on the Six Gods. See above regarding the Spirits of the Wild and of the Elder Dragons.

But we don’t know for a fact that their power is in any way absolute. It has been tested, and succeeds, that is not proof of being absolute. […] I mean, Grenth may claim dominion over the dead, but clearly he can’t just shut Zhaitan down in his tracks.

You’re arguing about unknowns and unprovables. You cannot prove that something can kill Dhuum, when even a demi-god couldn’t (or the heroes who killed a different god, and aided by the spirits of those who helped Grenth defeat Dhuum, couldn’t either).

Grenth shutting Zhaitan down is irrelevant if you’ve been listening, since Dhuum still lives and thus would have his power still – Grenth was originally representing mortality, ice, judgment and sorrow. Dhuum is attributed with Death. While their domains are similar – should Grenth have that kind of “indestructible power” the gods do – he wouldn’t be able to prevent undeath with a wave of his fingers – unlike Dhuum supposedly could, given how when Dhuum wasn’t imprisoned, he disallowed resurrection and undeath.

Has there been a lore mention that I have not heard of? Last I had heard there was speculation that perhaps Grenth WOULD not kill Dhuum because of his morals or some such thing. Plus wasn’t one of his attributes judgement? Or am I mixing him up with post “godhood”.

Since I missed it before:
