hammer.

Gs is too much a one shot pony, its just a dps weapon. Hammer offers so much more in terms of utility, masses of control, a very short cd blast finisher, perma protection. And it hits like a truck.

GS is great on lots of weak enemies, but otherwise its hammertime!

Im glad as well. Its a chance for them to renew the zone, to polish it. It really needs a meta event or 2, and some more dynamic events. Or a dungeon. Karka dungeon????

Unless the dungeon is soloable, no. I’m sick of being forced to party to complete content.

Welcome to life. If meeting people really makes you sick, you probably never leave the house right? There’s almost nothing in life you can finish on your own.

Group content is the most fun in games, and though it could be better with a large group event, no one wants the november 15th disaster again.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

What if confusion...

Honestly confusion isn’t as terrible as people think… in pvp I got 22,671 damage on my target…. We just have to specc heavier for it now

Because people thinking with WvW in mind have nothing to do with people playing sPvP. Just like Necros are hopelessly useless roamers in WvW, but dominate sPvP. “It’s fine in sPvP, it should be fine in WvW” and vice versa is trash logic.

Oh go to spvp threads and see just how many people think necros are sooo underpowered… As a Mesmer I know that isn’t the case… And since the confusion in wvw can still be affected by foods number for number its more powerful than spvp. Just saying.

Rangers are not allowed in speed runs...

Ranger is among the bottom of the barrel in dungeonplay for a number of reasons.

Largely because dungeons lean toward direct damage and other classes do (and should) specialize in that better. Additionally, Ranger’s damage specs are mucked up with fragile pets creating a unfortunately high skill floor, our highest damaging weapon being amazingly user unfriendly, and Unshakeable reducing the impact of our Power traitline’s entire theme by 50%.

….but, the barrel’s basically ankle deep in this game so being at the bottom of it just doesn’t amount to much at the end of the day.

A Tier-based Meta is an exhausting mentality to buy into.
It’s all about putting greater than or lesser than signs between things, but it rarely asks itself how much of an impact it all has. So professions are put into this endless rotation of tops and bottoms that breeds constant dissatisfaction and hysteria for half the classes in the game, no matter how good or bad things actually are. The sort of people who take classism that seriously, are the sort of people who’ve bought themselves lifetime passes to that pointless emotional rollercoaster, and as far I’m concerned they go have fun with it.

Far, far, away from me.

The first 38k+ health warrior

So, I took the effort to buy a full sentinel set. I was really curious to how much health I could get. First we wanted to reach 35k+, but when I passed that, I wanted to go for the 38k health mark. And I did it!

http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/6329/gw144r.jpg
Just wanted to share this epic moment with you guys. The viability of a build like this asside (wont be using it for real ^^). Next stop will be 40k+, I do believe I can brake that one too.

ps.: stats in rampage form: 55.5k health/4k+ armor/2.8k power (no might)

You can be a giant health pool.

That can’t survive as long as other classes..guess this is what the warrior class is reduced to..seeing how high we can jump!

Then you need to learn to play warrior. It has great survivability.

Thief Problems - Roaming

When I run into a thief alone, first thing I do is equip my Shield and sword. Sword allows for a (# 3)r anged attack, and a (# 2) teleport to enemy, which is useful to catch up to thieves. Shield skills (# 4) gives protection, really useful against backstab damage. (#5) And when the thief uses shadow refuge I use this skill to push him out of it. This + a hammer or a great sword and i never lose a 1v1 to a thief.

Rather than 2 shields, i’d like a weapon class like a halberd
Or even be able to equip spear on ground with a shield, and run around like Spartans
And yes a few of the spear skill should be throwing it at someone.

Just want to give some recognition to the guys, pugs or not, who silently do all the unglamorous and unrewarding stuff like

a) escorting yaks on end
b) staying back to repair/rebuild after the zerg runs off
c) sentry/scout/or with the latest patch, just going ard making sure siege doesnt despawn. seriously ive seen zergs run past siege without even stopping to check timers all in the name of bloodlust

All of the above (n im sure some ive left out) give almost no rewards at all vs banging down doors or combat yet are still integral. Next time, u run with the zerg into a tower/keep and happily assume the AC/Cata for more bags, be thankful for the ppl who maintain and built them up

truth about what is wrong with the hammer

in Warrior

Posted by: Varonth.5830

The #1 Attackspeed isn’t exactly slow.
Here are some frame numbers. I measured how many frames past between the start of the attack chain, until the damage floater of the first attack of the second chain appeared, at 60 FPS.

Greatsword: 190 frames
Hammer: 201 frames
Sword: 174 frames
While technically it is slower then greatsword, it is just ~5% difference.
190 / 201 = 0.945 → ~95% → this is the time greatsword need in relation to hammer for a full chain.
The damage difference between both weapons on the other hand is enourmous.
Damage greatsword chain: 519+519+668 = 1706
Damage hammer chain: 668+668+891 = 2227
1706/2227 = 0.766 → ~77% → this is the damage greatsword does in relation to hammer in a full chain.

Just for the sake of numbers, here is the amount of frame from Hundred Blades start to damage floater of autoattack:
Hundred Blades: 257 frames.

The root on #4 is annoying.
And it seems that unsuspecting foe from the Arms traitline really just works against stunned enemies, and Backbreaker is a knockdown.
Backbreaker casttime could really use a slight cooldown and casttime reduction. Somewhere around 0.75s casttime and 25s cooldown.

Earthshaker on the other hand is the by far best burst skill the warrior has.

No really...

Im a warrior on Blackgate. As you know the reset yesterday put us in first place(Wasn’t easy JQ and SoR, nice fight this week). Anyway, earlier this morning (Saturday morning) I fought and engineer and won, fair and square. So right after I finish him a thief and necro shows up(I’m at 40% health) and obviously beat me. I don’t have a problem with that. But what I do have a problem with is the disrespect that followed. The Necro and Thief rez the engineer who then proceeds to dance on my body. I’m sorry I outplayed you fair and square but I really don’t think a response like that is appropriate…

Mist Form Nerf - Care to explain Anet?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Escthiil.3210

Escthiil.3210

I’m not Anet, but here’s an objective analysis on Mist Form, with a comparison made to Endure Pain since you mentioned it.

Firstly, Endure Pain is a 90s CD stun breaker that lasts 4 seconds allows you to take no damage but conditions can still be applied to you throughout it’s effective duration. On the other hand, Mist Form is a 75s CD stun breaker that lasts 3 seconds that makes you invulnerable. Meaning other than not taking damage, new conditions cannot be applied to you nor do CC have any effect on you.

Granted, you can’t use skills in Mist form as opposed to Endure Pain, but you can still do element switching which I figured is a relatively good deal.

Plus you can still stomp with Mist Form and no one has any chance of stopping you. Unlike with Endure Pain, because it grants no stability, you are not excused from CC.

So all in all, with only a one second effect duration difference but a much lower default cool down while benefitting largely from being invulnerable, I don’t think other skills “seem to be much better than mist form” at all.

you’re pretty pathetic if you think your class is dead just because they put it in it’s place. dumb bunker builds healing right through my damage and getting away from what should be kills is ridiculous. and then to top off the cherry on the kitten pie, they can burst me down just as fast? you deserve to be nerfed.

adapt, and learn to play, rather than hopping on a bandwagon just because it’s stupid strong.

I never said traps or LB were buffed. I was just making an observation that a group of rangers were doing great last night. Also, pets were a factor because they sent their wolves in to fear other players that got too close to them.

Also, I’ve been playing ranger since launch so stop with the 101 stuff.

hey Emily! i had a similar problem when i first entered dungeons as my Guard lol. though i feel with dungeons, you need to know as much about the dungeons, each encoutner, the mechanics as much as you need to know about the Guardian class. or any class you decide to take into any given dungeon.

when you practice more and learn more, you’ll find yourself changing traits and weapons halfway through the dungeons to best equip yourself for each encounter. though to be honest, it’s not entierly necessary : )) but the Guardian’s set up allows us to do so.

a good youtube channel to check out would be Strife’s youtube channel. he covers most dungeons on his Guard (who he started out with iirc), as well as Warrior and now Mesmer. note that he and his group do speed runs, but he does explain each encounter quite nicely.

and lastly, to be honest, you can play any role in dungeons. i can’t speak for high level fractals yet since that seems to be a different beast in itself… don’t let other people dictate how you should play as a Guardian. it’ll be hard for people to get out of their mindset that Guardians are supposed to only, well, guard and support and heal. we can do anything from being extremely survivable, to being extremely DPS-sy. but if you know you want to do support as much as you can, go that route. : ))

same for WvW. i started off as being mainly hybrid.. decent damage, pretty darn good survivability. then i went the more DPS route. less forgiving in terms of making mistakes but i killed a LOT faster. and most people don’t expect a Guard to be able to hit that hard. then now i’ve been exploring being more supportive as well.

some weapons to note – mace / shield is a nice supportive combo. staff needless to say. hammer is pertty good too. but to be honest, all weapons would work because i feel the Guardian has so many innate supportive abilities that we’d have to try hard to NOT passively support our allies. with that in mind though, you can definitely build for that. shouts for example, consecrations, area blinds, area denial, area control, healing symbols, knockbacks pulls to take off focus fire from your enemies, etc… am sure you know all about this already.

regards to the Guardians low health.. it’s due to the damage mitagation skills we have and also the ability outheal any damage we take. obviously, you’ll still want to recognize and avoid the big hits or focus fire. acuse that’ll kill anyone. XDD

if you wanna talk more, i’d be more than willing to help and we can go through some builds even. good luck!

Ok so say we have 10 boons on us and a Warrior does 30% more damage to us (3% per boon). Protection virtually cancels out all that extra damage said warrior is doing. All this boon hate isn’t a big deal to me, maybe the thief steal will catch me off guard once in a while but seriously, seems like everyone is flipping out over nothing. Amirite?

I think a lot of people are reading too much into “unblockable”. It doesn’t mean you can’t defend against it at all and it always hits. It just means than aegis and other blocking skills won’t be able to stop the 3 attacks.

Blind, dodge, weakness, and protection will still work like before.

It also won’t override stability, so you can still protect yourself from interrupts while sheltering.

Indirectly nerfed?

in Guardian

Bah, just lost my entire message. That’s annoying. I’ll just say now that if you play your guardian, you know exactly how to mitigate damage. Not to sound harsh, but don’t sit there and try to troll me by asking questions like that when you’re mostly like going to respond with the contrary, no matter what I say. “Sandra” already has that covered in this thread to an irrational extreme.

I’d like to think it’s fairly common knowledge that the game does have a ‘bunker problem’ and that the SotG stuff is meant to reflect this. I mean, I get it, you don’t want things to be stronger against guardian. But for the sake of balance they’re going to have to be and I think Anet finally agrees.
