Again, the only way thieves can take advantage of this is going S/D, which without Boon hate is a sub par build.
And have you ever dueled a warrior? Given equal skill they are laughably easy and I would smack you for losing to one if you two were at comparable skill levels.
I wanted to reply, but then decided it wasn’t worth my time, then changed my mind and decide I should write a post about how I wanted to reply but wasn’t worth my time…..
Oh god I couldn’t keep reading this thread after the suggestion to put the shield skills on a 15 second cool down.

d/d elementalists: the only class that can rush into a zerg get focus fired at and still come back out alive.
This.
The Elementalist forum, where Eles are the squishiest class and everything else is OP.
Eles don’t need mobility to survive, they simply abuse it to survive in situations where they shouldn’t be able to, like in a 5v1 scenario.
As an asura, I do this all the time.”

I did my whole Monthly in WvW.
The bad thing about smite is that it’s short and, like most AoE skills, the enemy can just walk right out of it.
Assuming that you don’t take any steps to ensure that the enemy stays in the radius for as long as possible, then yes it’s bad. But that isn’t exactly what I’d call a smart use of Smite. It works great with AoE chill skills (like the ones elementalists have) and there are other AoE snare skills that it works well with too. It doesn’t mean it isn’t viable or that it’s worthless. It just means you need to be smart about how and when you use it. At the very least you can use Chains of Light on your target first and immediately hit them with Smite. It isn’t perfect since it isn’t snaring more than one target. But it can still do massive damage if you use it right.
I’m actually perfectly fine with the current ranged options for my guardian. The range is outstanding for 2 out of the 3 scepter skills. Both Orb of Wrath and Smite have a range of 1200. Only Chains of Light has a shorter range of 900. My only real issue is the slowness of Orb of Wrath. Other than that, I think the scepter does a decent amount of ranged damage. It certainly isn’t going to win any awards for having high, sustained DPS. However, I don’t use it because I want to do massive damage. I use it more for Smite and Chains of Light.
I get that people feel neglected because the guardian can’t do massive amounts of damage at a distance (Smite is crazy good if you have a high crit chance and can snare your target). But I think the limited ranged options says a lot about their design goals for the class.
The whole class is built around the concept of always being in the thick of battle, while buffing and supporting those around them. There are many ways to accomplish this task of course. I think giving the guardian a stronger ranged weapon would make the class way too powerful. It’s already extremely powerful.
Having said that, it would be nice if the scepter had a symbol skill associated with it. Maybe turn Smite into a symbol that has a chance to cripple your target(s) while also providing a boon for allies?
we need ranged.
We dont need to be super great at ranged.
Just a viable way to act at range. or to hit runners.
We dont want ranged to be so good its the main playstyle, just buffed enough so that you can hit something other than a stationary target. We are the ONLY profession which lacks a viable ranged option.
I’m not really feeling sympathy. Give up some of the over-the-top survivability in melee first.

As a mesmer main I have met a couple guardians who’ve forced me to step off – they didn’t kill me; but I had to fall back and lose the area to the guardian which is to all intents and purposes a victory in PvP (Territory control is more important than an outright kill).
The first thing is pressure; mesmers DPS is not especially good, and much of that comes from their clones, either kittenters or direct attacks from phantasms. Kill their clones and you slash their DPS, a mesmer with no access to clones or shatter fodder won’t do much damage to you.
Next is to take note that Mesmers don’t have a reliable source of poison, combined with poor DPS when their clones are focused down – if you bring decent healing, you can tank the mesmer pretty much all day.
Finally, snares. Mesmers are the slowest class by a long shot (having only 1 reliable speed buff and that has a long cooldown) and are relatively glassy – once you are happy that you don’t have a 3 clone shatter or a bunch’ve phantasms breathing down your neck, get the mesmer rooted or snared and get smacking – putting pressure onto the mesmer forces them to burn dodges so if they’re using evasive deception they’ll also lose a portion of their clone spawning capability.
You might not be able to KILL the mesmer; they have excellent escape strategies available to them – but with no simple way to kill YOU or force you to back off, they’ll have to cede the area – and as I said earlier, winning in PvP is mostly about area control; outright killing people is just a bonus.

Yeah, leave it to the zerglings and their “nerf confusion because I cannot spam 1 anymore with it”.. :/
Or to the more organized groups of 15 – 20 people?
I dont like zergs
Ah, that’s more like it.. imho anyone can give their input, except zerglings..
I will agree on you on that. Rather have roamer input than blob input

Well you can’t please everybody. I for one am having a ton of fun with all the little things they do in this game. I also like the 8 bit music its great lol
This is now the third or fourth post that I see kittening about the fun content, as I said before relax or ignore it. And yes it’s kittening around…..8 bit music on the login screen omg can’t take it my world is serious please, no can’t take 3 sec of 8 bit music while I log in….sorry but this is pathetic.
What’s more pathetic is that you need to hear it 3 seconds while logging in. 3 seconds? Really what is the point?
Eh… am I the only one that pauses and listens longer than that?
I actually turned on my music for the work of auditory art that is the character select screen in 8-bit. It’s that good.
