As long as legendaries can be bought, either straight out or by buying most of the components, they will never be symbols of achievements.
Playing the kitten game while being out in the world contributing to the community and accomplishing team oriented goals should net players a legendary after a long process of events not tied to gold.
Market manipulators and brokers can still make all the money they want trading items needed for the large amounts of craftable skins available in game while staying away from legendaries.
The entire economy revolving around legendaries is bad for the players in the long run.
One legendary? No. Everyone and their mother seems to be roaming Lion’s Arch with one. TWO legendaries? I’d say that’s impressive.
I think many folks find that less impressive – because now there is absolutely no questions that at least one of them was in large part bought.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Things not purchasable with gold:
Karma
World Completion
Dungeon tokens
Badges of Honor
Skill Points
Ok. You’re right, those are not purchasable with gold. Let’s look at what is:
Precursor weapon
Icy runestones
Both 400 crafting skills
The recipes for the crafting gifts
The crafting gift (metal/wood)
Crafted lodestone gift
Ectos and Mystic Coins for clovers (still need karma and SPs)
250 ectos for Gift of Fortune
All components of Gift of Magic
All components of Gift of Might
Imagine all those parts were removed. They are for some people, such as TP flippers or those rich enough IRL to punch in their CC and buy a thousand gold. Going down the list of legendary components, about 66-75% of the process is simply, flat-out buyable. Of course, the end product is also buyable, which I also have a problem with.
awesome fight trying to defend bay against GH on GH BL just now i think we res lord about 4 times lol, there was literally a handful of us defending against a huge army of GH and i think we pulled together nicely and really held out as long as we could, great fight to be remembered
Big Bad Bunny – Necro – FSP [PunK]
Of course your going to see more legendarys, the fact that anyone can just google “legendary weapons” put in a credit card and buy one makes the whole thing a joke.
“Why do I think that Precursors are fair price?”
“Recently I have bought my precursor.”
What is there more to say :-P
I just came back from HotW Story Mode,
talk about damage sponges.
And I will repeat this once again:
If you think that the price of the precursors is unfair then please try to make one. You will change your mind. I guarantee.
How many times do I have to repeat this:
Just because both methods of obtaining a Precursor are tremendously bad, they do not somehow justify each other. You either gamble with the RNG (which is bad) or you bend over and take it up the wazoo by the market manipulators (which is also bad).
Two wrongs do not make a right.
Do you even lift, bro?

Thanks to FSP and MS for a fun battle across the south and eastern side of FSP BL. We logged on at 75 points per tick and logged off at 245 per tick. Took back Lake, consolidated there, then kept hold of Water and pushed Hills.
Great fight to take Hills, which then had mutiple battles at various points with MS and FSP attacking at the same time. Had us running all over Hills to defend furiously.
We managed to take Dawns and then decided to have a go at FSP Garrison. We were so close, got the Lord down, but a determined defence from FSP wiped us out before we could cap.
A great night, and thanks to both MS and especially FSP for some quality fights.
At @ Maloki – that green half of your bordelands at prime time last night (for periods more than half of your borderlands). That was ours.
@Kaleygh – Our primetime team
Let`s be serious, you can`t really call groups like Xaoc “5 man or less guild groups”.
Have fun!I think your bitterness get in your way with selective reading or you think xaoc is our prime time.
Have fun
It’s not bitterness but the fact when you are making the most points and which guilds are most involved in that.
This from my side isn’t talking down on you guys, although I’ve only been in WvW 2 evenings during this matchup and when I was there I had a hard time staying awake due to busy times IRL, I saw some nice fights against you guys that didn’t involve said guild so take that as a compliment if you will. But I have been keeping track of point ticks, talked to WvW’ers on our server etc. and I do notice a trend.
Without XaoC this matchup would’ve been even more balanced but alas that’s not meant to be.
Without XaoC this matchup would not happen at all. GH would not be in this tier. And people somehow think that XaoC is playing only in morning when everyone sleep. Thing is, they are playing almost all day, many of them even fight you in prime time. They are large group that is playing almost all day.
GH is strong server, but without them we were winning tier 8 but not by much.
Also I find it strange how some people hint that because XaoC makes difference in morning we don’t “deserve” this win. Well just think it from our perspective, you have number advantage at prime time euro, the more clock tick the higher your numbers are. Which is opposite for us. Each hour we have less and less people compared to you.
In the end its game of numbers. You cant catch up to lead that XaoC gives us in mornings. And that’s pretty much it. WvW is most of the times game of numbers. If we didn’t have XaoC, you would win easily BECAUSE then you would have more numbers and more coverage.
My advice would be to enjoy match up, and stop finding excuses for losing. Having fun is much more important especially since this tier is one of the most balanced ones.
Pretty funny when u google mystic toilet…the forge is one of the top results along with some company that actually has a brand named “mystic toilet”
Almost 1400hrs, and one key dropped since Launch. Got two in beta.
Guardian
I wouldn’t be too surprised if the November 15 update that was supposed to increase the drop rate of precursors from the forge actually made it worse instead, considering other drop rate changes from that patch are broken. (Champions still not dropping loot, etc.) But there’s really no way to know, so if you’re going to use the forge, you might as well just do it.
Excuse me? If I wasn’t able to clarify my point, just tell me. Maybe it’s because it’s early in the morning over here and I’m right at my first coffee for today.
I think you got him to say your right…. in a weird way…
Only a guardian can say " Eat my dust!" and still remain in the last…
Only a Guardian gets nerf every single patch
Hey, at least they didn’t nerf something useful !!
Technical Strength – Engineer
Dungeon Master – FotM 46
They made sure noone will ever use Spirit Weapons…so stupid
They barely have any health and die from 1-2 aoe or direct hits…seriously…
No it’s pretty much terrible, it packs a punch if it ever hits.
It’s only English when you’re looking.
The text becomes English when you look at it? That’s interesting!
When I look at it, my target turns into a bloody pulp on the ground.
Break up his current fight.
Separate so 1 PVE Monthly and 1 WvWvW Monthly, i never can do monthly becase you have to do dungons and get some item that you dont get from killing players.
We are kind and little squirrels
I wasted 100g in the forge trying to get The Legend. It’s a process I won’t soon forget and one that I’ve told all my friends about.
Legendary
I was not aware of the cost of all this until reading the forums. Guess I will stop all crafting as it obviously is a total waste of time and money. I have also lost hope in getting any armor that I liked.
Don’t give up hope. Just adjust expectations. Legendaries only come with a specific stat set and you can’t transmute, so you may be legitimately better off with an exotic weapon. If you were just going for an epic skin, there are nice skins on much cheaper exotic weapons. See http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_weapons.
I’m making it a long-term project to get my legendary. I don’t need it right away. And I’m playing this game to have fun.
I want Incinerator because of awesome skin and special effects, but for my other weapons I’m probably going to go for a cool and cheap(er) MF weapon or dungeon exotic.
Cheaper?? Not by much considering the relative costs of the materials involved.
I wanted to craft the Shortbow Aether, until I realized it called for 100 Charged Lodestones.
i farm sparks outside of Arah nearly every day for 2-4 hours per day. Been doing that for the month I’ve been playing regularly. 5 days per week average. I have nearly 100% MF. Know how many I’ve found in nearly a month of farming?
ONE.
ONE STUPID LODESTONE. GG Anet, you’ve managed to break the drop rates of nearly EVERYTHING worthwhile to obtain.
Oh — And they’re nearly 5g on the TP. That’s 500g straight up.
I could spend another months time, pay 500g (100 for the runestones, 400g for the precursor), and have a better looking bow (talking about Kudzu, NOT Dreamer, though killing someone in PvP with a My Little Pony bow that shoots Nyan-cats would be a rofflecopter moment, I agree, just Kudzu happens to be my 1st priority).
So WHY again are the particle effect exotics “cheaper”?
Only a WvW player will break the existing rams outside of the castle they’re taking, and then build 4 new ones on top of it. Why? No one will ever know.
I have a feeling someone got inspired by the “Only an Engineer…” thread on engi forums…
Only a WvW player would think that having 40% map completion is completely normal
Only a WvW player would mail some of their loot bags after a big fight to the groups support guardian
Only a WvW player still gets excited over a yellow drop loot… even if its not for their career
Only a WvW player thinks Lions Arch is just ‘that weird place’ you end up making siege in the forge and for hanging out at server reset day.
Only a WvW player targets people with legendary weapons first because they’re an easy kill and spent too much time in pve.
Only a WvW player would use an open gate tower defense for their guilds ‘revenue raising’

“Legendary Weapons are the end result of an epic adventure in Guild Wars 2. You’ll travel all over, collecting items and amassing materials to build your Legendary Weapon.”
This is BOLLOCKS. What his quote should REALLY say is the following:
“Legendary Weapons are the end result of an epic materials grind & Trading Post hunt in Guild Wars 2. You’ll travel all over the Black Lion Trading Post, buying and amassing materials to build your Legendary Weapon. BUT WAIT!!! THERE’S MORE!!! Players will also get the chance at the Guild Wars 2 Lottery system!!! That’s right — After spending 6-8 hrs per day grinding gold/mats/Trading Post, 5 days per week, for four months straight, players will get the opportunity to shovel DOZENS of level 80 exotic weapons (which were hoarded from super rare drops in level 80 dungeons, and the all-mighty Black Lion Trading Post (2-5g per weapon)) into the MYSTIC FORGE, for a 0.0001% chance at having the mysterious genie of the lamp forming YOUR specific presursor weapon (did I miss a zero?).”
Now don’t get me wrong: I don’t mind time invested. To a point, it makes obtaining the Legendary that much sweeter, and there’s quite a bit of “pride of ownership” associated with that.
—HOWEVER—
Throwing around terms such as “epic adventure”, and “travel”, not to mention “collecting” inspires thoughts of taking on some grand storyline quest, in which the LEGENDARY WEAPON you’re pursuing actually has a specific LORE and actually is LOGICAL not only in the method by which you would obtain it, but in its scope of difficulty assigned to it.
Currently, the only thing we have is a grind-fest of wood, metal, animal parts, mystic baubles, slimy ectoplasm, and the like, with no real attachment of WHY we’re doing those things.
It’s more along the lines of the old-school MMO issues of the lowbie quests given by NPC’s, such as: “Bring me 19 rats-tails………just because you’re level 1.”
Players are more willing to invest their time and energy into doing something NOT too terribly fun if they see a logical structure behind it, and they see a methodology that is sound and gets them involved. As it stands, the whole system is disconnected from players, and outside of looks, there’s no sincere motivation to get players to actually go for the weapons to begin with.
EverQuest1 got epic weapons right (think “Legendary” when I say epic): You had to go through a storyline, everything you got towards the weapon was (MOSTLY) logical, and you had to do much more than just grind mats and hope the RNG pities you that day.
Tell me ONE MORE TIME, Anet: Exactly WHY do I need to bring so-and-so 1000 animal’s blood and body parts to make a Longbow made out of mystic vines, light energy, and live birds? (I assume so since birds chirp whenever you have the weapon equipped lol)
Oh where do these people come from?
50,000 commendations? I sure hope you did not get that from the exotic trinket recipe, which was taken out of the game as exploitable. After all, if you did, all of your commendations, which you probably want to turn into cheap Black Lion Keys, would be gained from an exploit.
And exploitation is grounds for a banning, I think.
Just saying.
You people have no idea what you’re talking about. This combo is a 3-shot from stealth from 900 away. Meaning, to be able to counter this, you need to know there is a Thief far away from you who is stealthed (meaning you’re asking everyone to be psychic), or get lucky.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not a paranoid player who constantly spams dodges and Protection when there’s 0 reason to believe there’s a Thief, and that’s what you’re telling everyone to do. “L2p, just spam dodge and all your Protection cooldowns for no reason in any PvP situation you ever find yourself, because there might possibly be a chance a Thief is near you.”
