I don’t see these changes really accomplishing anything in terms of balance and build diversity. They are either addressing things that are a non-issue (poison duration stacking, really?) or completely impotent at fixing any established problems.

Again, I’m left wondering if ANet is actually playing the same game I am?

I’ll comment on Healing Signet because that’s one of the few skills I am qualified to comment on and because you specifically asked for Feedback.

To be honest, in light of the changes to crit-damage, I doubt most Warriors would even notice this change. Burst is currently what kills Warriors and if burst is cut by 10%, why would we worry about an 8% nerf to Healing Singet?

The problem is there is never a good reason to use the active aspect of HS. Unlike most Signets you use for the active effects and take the passives and “nice to have” you take HS specifically and exclusively for the passive effect. In fact using the active aspect of it is detrimental more often than not.

But that’s just part of the problem. The other is that there are so many other passive healing-sources on the Warrior that it just adds up.

Leaving the mechanics of Healing Signet unchanged is a mistake. A simple nerf to output won’t fix the problem that this skill has no element of skill, no counter-play and being highly effective.

As for a potential “active” effect, how about if using Healing Signet made you invulnerable for a few seconds, similar to Endure Pain. That way you’d be sacrificing 20 seconds of passive healing for momentary mitigation. This might lead to some more interesting depth.

For the people replying on this forum.

con·struc·tive

“constructive criticism”
synonyms: useful, helpful, productive, positive, encouraging

I respect your intentions by posting that, however the ambivalence and antipathy towards the respective teams are not without reason. Frankly the listed changes to all classes are marginal at best, especially considering the time frame.

My own antipathy has stemmed from the mistreatment of the Elementalist class I love so much. Why waste our breaths being respectful when constructive feedback threads are primarily ignored.

Link’s provided below to further illustrate:

We have said more than enough. I know of no other game with such passionate players who provide amazing feedback and ideas only to be continually ignored, a disturbing trend shown in practically every single sub-forum to date.

With regards to the Elementalist changes, in my opinion they are inadequate to address the pathetic base survivability that is hamstringing the class.

Mordremoth painting?

in Living World

Posted by: Thedenofsin.7340

Thedenofsin.7340

I posted this elsewhere, but thought it may generate more discussion here:

With the EOTM patch pending, I wanted to post my thoughts on Scarlet.

First, the questions.

  1. What is Scarlet doing?
  2. Why is she doing it?

First question: What is Scarlet doing?

According to Taimi, she is looking for something. That’s a safe bet to make. So, what is she looking for?

We are not sure. However, she has built:

  • thumping devices
  • machine minions
  • airships
  • mega lasers
  • poisons
  • drilling machines (presumably, based upon schematics in her office)

From this, I conclude she is looking for something underground.

OK, so what is she looking for? Really I only have 1 conclusion based upon what has been discussed (or not discussed) in GW2: a dragon. Using some meta-gaming, we know Primordius will be the last, biggest baddie, so ANet will save him until later.

That leaves us with: Mordremoth, the jungle dragon.

Mordremoth exists and is awake – we know this. However, we have not seen evidence of its corruption similar to what we have seen with the other dragons.

I hypothesize this is the case because Mordremoth corrupts nature from under the earth. It controls plant life and various earth-dwelling invertibrae (i.e. worms).

The 3 headed giant worm, I suspect, is a champion of Mordremoth. I also suspect the giant jungle worm is a minion of Mordremoth. If this is true, this means the jungle dragon has infected large, geographically separate regions across Tyria. (If the 3 headed worm is that big, imagine how big the dragon is!)

How has it accomplished this? I suggest it has done this subterraneously. I believe Mordremoth is some bizarre tree-like dragon that exists mostly under the earth. It has slowly spread its root system across much of Tyria, corrupting organisms along the way.

Now, is Scarlet working for the dragon or against it? I’d say against it. Why? If she were championing for the Dragon, then we would see her commanding an army of plant-like life and trying to acquire sources of magic for the elder dragon. Instead, we see her using the magics for her own benefit and building machines to do her bidding. That sounds pretty anti-Jugle Dragon, if you ask me.

Scarlet has been building an kitten nal of weaponry designed to kill Mordremoth:

  • Flame legion weapons (fire is no friend of plant life)
  • tunneling machines to dig deep
  • clockwork machines (cannot be corrupted by Mordremoth)
  • giant drills
  • a super-poison injector
  • toxic hybrids that may poison plant-life

If Mordremoth has corrupted much of Tyria and lies beneath the surface, then anywhere you stand may be on top of the enemy. So where does one fight from? Well, the skies! Here is where the Aetherblade ships come in. From here, Scarlet can attack with impunity, far from the reach of Mordremoth.

I think these thumpers aren’t looking for a single thing. I think she is mapping out Mordremoth’s root system (the ley lines of Mordremoth, if you will).

All roots lead back to the trunk. By mapping out the root system, Scarlet will pinpoint the location of Mordremoth’s core.

Now, onto question #2. Why is she doing this?

I have no idea!
What I believe, however, is that the remaining questions which I have not answered are tied into her motivation
Why did she go crazy?
What did she see in the Mists?
Why did she kill Omadd?
Why is she attacking Mordremoth now?
Why is she attacking the citizens of Tyria?
What do the steam creatures have to do with this?

I can only speculate that, while in the Mists, something got a hold of Scarlet and, when she came back, she wasn’t alone.
I’m guessing whatever came back with her is somehow tied to the Steam creatures and has a giant hair across its rear about all things organic.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend? Or is the enemy of my enemy my enemy?

Suggestion: Swap Weapons out of Combat

in Elementalist

Posted by: SimmonsTheSpawn.4716

SimmonsTheSpawn.4716

I personally think that having the ability to change the weapon out of combat is a good idea !
It’s not so confortable to have inventory/hero panel opened to change a weapon.
Often if you switch from one set focus to one scepter dagger dagger and you lose time having to right click on the second dagger to put it in off hand and in excited fighting stages you are likely to end up in aggro and staying with the wrong set, or even worse (as often happens if you do not hold the panel hero) with only a dagger and nothing in the other hand

As you can change your skill off combat i think that for ele could be a good idea being able to change weapon too

Bosses should be on pre-events, not timers

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

No, the pre-events would not necessarily on timers; at least not on hourly ones. Maybe starting the event chain would be possible 10 minutes after the main fight finished, or 15, or whatever.

The point is that players would be able to decide themselves when (and how often) is a good time to do the boss fight. If the pre-event chains would go on for a while (there is plenty of different ways to add countdown timers to dynamic events, as we all know), other players would be able to join the group and partake, or not.

The other point is that ANet said that more boss fights would get a re-design a la Teq soon – now if they all spawn on the hour, they’ll all just overlap. So you can’t hop from boss to boss. You can do either Teq or the Marionette. Right now, in order to do all three boss fights in one day, you have to be online 3 hours – 45 minutes of which you actively play, over two hours of which you just kill time, being stuck in one map, hoping that you don’t DC or be kicked for idling.
There is no flexibility there. You know why I play a game that advertised dynamic events? So I have the flexibility.

One problem with the overflows right now is that everybody could just as well show up five minutes before the boss fight, but since everybody’s panicky about losing their spot, people (for Teq at least) showed up earlier and earlier and earlier. If boss fights were triggered by dynamic events, this wouldn’t happen and remove the biggest reason why people don’t want to do them.

Secondly, of course, the boss fights should scale down properly so the minimum requirements would not equal a full map. Right now, Teq requires 80 or so people; I believe the map is full when you hit 100. So IF people actually show up for the fight, the creation of overflows is inevitable and some people WILL be left behind. If Teq was doable with 40+ players (but roughly the same difficulty for each group size – that’s what scaling is supposed to achieve, right?) then overflows wouldn’t automatically mean that you might just as well go and play something else.

Karka Queen actually has very decent rewards now. Guaranteed 30 Dragonite Ore, 5+ Karka Shells, 4 Exotic Champ Bags, and a decent shot at an Exotic inscription/insignia that fetches 2g+ on the TP.

If the pre-events just weren’t such a pain to setup, I guarantee she’d be one of the most popular World Bosses.

Regular bosses can be on a timer because you can just jump in when they happen. Bosses that require zergs: better take one hour to wait, or else —> overflow.

  • In order to avoid overflow, you have to stand around in the same map with nothing to do
  • Since they all seem to spawn on the hour, they overlap with Tequatl, and probably more fights in the future.

I suggest to put big boss fights on a series of pre-events instead.

I don’t care if these take 20 minutes or longer to complete. I don’t care if they require 40+ players to do. But this way players could spawn the bosses on their own time. No pointless standing around doing nothing.

—> But they did this with the Karka Queen and people aren’t doing that!

The Karka Queen has other problems (size of the required zerg, difficulty to join the zerg due to hostile environment, and the reward doesn’t quite make it worth it). With a little bit of rebalancing (safe waypoint near the boss fight, better reward, smaller zerg required) people would be doing it a lot.

—> But without a 2 hour cooldown people are going to farm these like crazy!

People only farm events that give them repeated rewards (champ train). They don’t farm events that give them rewards only once per day (fire elemental).

I had a super epic encounter last night where everyone in my champion ring died except for me almost immediately (we were fighting the shrieker). Then, I went on to solo the boss, killing it with 20 seconds to spare, and managed to finish off the power regulator with less than a half-second remaining on the clock. All of this was happening to the cheers in /say chat from the viewers, stunned that a Necromancer of all things soloed the boss and ultimately broke the chain. We went on to win the whole thing because of that success (we had no failures allowed left before bar filled), and it made me swell with pride to think that not only had I achieved something truly great and not only had I benefited about 100 other people, but that a group of them watched it in disbelief and cheered me on. It was nerve-wracking and absolutely unforgettably amazing.

It’s moments like these that I remember forever, and for that, I thank ANet for making such an amazing and awesome fight where I could show off my personal skill and make a difference for everyone.

So why do people still fail marionette?

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Shiren.9532

Shiren.9532

It’s open world content. You don’t control your allies yet you rely heavily on them. It’s a recipe for frustration and failure. All we can do is try to help out and hope that in six months time the average player is more skilled than we are seeing now.

I do find it really bizarre that if ArenaNet is trying to teach players to become more skilled that the difficulty spike is so steep. Not only are the failure conditions sharp, the bosses do a lot of damage, they are on a timer and they require you to learn a unique mechanic to take them down. So we have people going from auto-attack the world boss jumping to all the skills required for marionette, of course the failure rate will be high.

If ArenaNet wants players to become more skilled, the difficulty curve needs to be less steep to allow the more casual players to keep up. Everyone loses when victory rests on the shoulders of people overwhelmed by the increased challenge.

I think they are trying to eliminate a lot of the leaked info that people were using to make a profit off the TP. By releasing less info to the various review sources, as well as the general public, they are reducing the chance that people can exploit that info for profit in game. Either that or they decided suspense is the new PR Strategy for 2014.

Seconded. A dev replied about this bug 5 weeks ago:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-stuck-after-blinking/first#post3383978

And yet there’s been no fix. I don’t understand how something can be a high priority bug fix and take so long.

This may not impact PvE players very much, but it’s extremely annoying to die in a 1v1 due to a bug, or when fighting in big groups, getting rolled over by a zerg because you are unable to move.

It’s especially irritating in that, since it seems like you are immobilized, you often blow your condi cleanse to try and get out of it, only to realize too late that it’s the “stuck bug.”

This bug apparently happens when you get CC’d and then use a teleportation-like skill. CC is extremely common in WvW, and you use teleportation skills to move to safety. This is a very big deal for WvW players. Please, please give this bug some attention.

"Felt ele was lacking sustain"

in Elementalist

Posted by: Nikkinella.8254

Nikkinella.8254

All our utilities need their cooldowns cut in half atleast. They’re just ridiculous right now. That would go a long way to helping our sustainability. Other classes have much better versions of our utilities on much shorter cooldowns. People maining other classes try to justify that with"Oh but eles have more weapon skills!" Really? and most of them are useless with the few useful ones on very high cooldowns. Also, weapon skills/attunements have nothing to do with our utilities. Is a thief’s initiative tied to their utilities? No, so why should our attunements be justification for overly long cooldowns on our utilities?

I still think that mesmer and ele hp should be swapped. mesmer has tons of survivability through clones, teleports, invulnerability, blocks, and stealth that we don’t have. They don’t need higher hp as well. We also lack the ability to disengage since the rtl nerf, which needs to be reverted. There are other elite skills i’d prefer to take over FGS, but i just cant afford to because ele lacks the mobility without it. you HAVE to use that skill if you hope to survive getting jumped by a zerg. I cant just stealth and hide behind something while they swing away at the area they think i was standing at while i creep off in the other direction. I’d be fine with the crappy mobility if i could turn invisible and run away.

Also, i know i’m probably not the only one who’s thought this but, Arcane brilliance should be removed as a heal and become a utility skill. Would be a great replacement for the now ruined arcane wave and give us some sustain we’re severely lacking. The healing would need to be toned down probably to become a utility.

Casual vs. Hardcore Content

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

Why can’t we have both? Because the casual fanbase won’t let it.

Hardcore players have the ability to do anything. They can do everything from wurm to FE. You don’t hear many complaints from them.

But you hear tons of complaints from the casuals who seem like they are entitled to doing everything and anything in this game on their own terms.

Legendary? I want it in a week.
Ascended? I want it in a day.
Crafting? Why must I be forced to spend money crafting?
Hard content? How come it’s not designed for me so I can beat it on first try?

so on and so forth

I think casual players just need to admit to themselves that the game will not revolve only around them and that they need to adjust their expectations on what they can do. You’re not going to get a legendary anytime soon if you play 1 hour a week. You’re not going to kill the wurm or karka if you refuse dodge. You’re not going to afford The Emperor title by making 20s a day

Casual vs. Hardcore Content

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Manijin.3428

Manijin.3428

I’ve read the complaints of a lot of people, both here and elsewhere, regarding the nature of this last Living Story update. For the most part, these forums being what they are, the complaints typically center around the nature of the content, i.e., the Great Jungle Wurm world boss being hardcore raid content, and the Marionette being casual content.

My question to the playerbase is: Why can’t we have both? The thing players need to understand is that, from the outset, ArenaNet had decided that there was going to be a way for casual players to experience content, and a way for hardcore players to experience content. Heck, just look at the original concepts for Explorable dungeons: Specific builds, gear setups, food, and maybe even classes were going to be REQUIRED to do explorable mode dungeons, not to mention having a chat program like TS. This idea was, eventually, scrapped in favor of making most explorable mode dungeons PUG-able.

This idea that EVERYBODY needs to be capable of doing all of the available content in the game has been executed, I believe, incorrectly. While everyone should have ACCESS to the game they paid for (no IRL cost-gating for content), and all content should be completable (no 5 second rage timers or something silly :P), there can, and should, exist difficult content that only the well-practiced and prepared teams can overcome. This gives people something to work towards, and truly rewards them for their effort.

“But wait!” you say, “I can’t do that content because X/Y/Z!” Well, guess what. I’m a casual player, too. I will probably never get above fractal 12, I will DEFINITELY never get full ascended gear, and I probably won’t ever beat Tequatl or the Great Jungle Wurm. But ya know what? That’s okay! Do you remember the first time you beat a video game, only to discover that you’d missed a whole bunch of side quests or bonus content? Did it cheapen the experience for you? Of course not! It only made you more excited to give it a go, and if you couldn’t, you left knowing that you’d still completed the game and had a blast. It might have even inspired you to play through again.

Now, that’s a lot to ask for from a MMOG, but I think that the idea of hardcore content should, and in some cases is, make a resurgence in GW2, not to the detriment of casual players, who should expect content for their skill level, but to empower those players who desire a greater challenge. Yes, sometimes a greater challenge requires gearing and playing a specific way, and that’s not always going to be for everyone. We, as casual players, need to accept that philosophy, and understand that there is content meant for us to “Play how we want”, and that there is content made for hardcore players to “Play how they want”, and that’s okay. Just don’t walk into a steakhouse and ask for chicken. :P

im just making sure the Dev actualy see this. Idc what they nerf i just want them to nerf it to the ground so that it never happen again.

Why? Because you’re mad? Mad because you can’t do as good?

Here’s the deal – a HIGHLY organized and SPECIALIZED team of players has used communication and knowledge of the game to achieve something unique.
They’ve done a speed kill.

Is it abnormal ? Maybe.
Is it gamebreaking? No.

95% of Arah groups will still do Lupicus the old way and still fail miserably.
Just because 1% of players are OWNING the game doesn’t mean that the content is broken – rather that some players are just very good at getting things done.

Your " nerf it because I can’t do it " approach is amazingly narrow and malicious. They deserve the speed kill for their effort of setting that up.
This sort of thing is not and will never be a common occurrence in Arah.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

The dragons consume magic. By defeating the elder dragons, the world’s magic will be able to flow unimpeded. Then, if Scarlet were able to unite the five bloodstones, she would gain control of all magic in the world, and become more powerful than the gods.

But there’s a catch. She would need the blood from a member of the royal lineage of King Doric in order to harness the power of the bloodstones. Only one human with Doric’s blood remains alive: Queen Jennah.

I think I just figured out why Scarlet wants to kidnap Jennah.

I think her journal offers a clue. She mentioned that the voice that was taunting her at night came from the jungle. Could this be in reference to the Jungle elder dragon, Modremoth? Here are some things that I think could link Modremoth to all of this.

1. We did not know about Modremoth (or its name rather) before the living story started. Colin gave us that name in one of the interviews regarding the living story in 2013 (don’t remember exact date). He wanted to prepare us for its awakening?
2. The Pale Tree could be Modremoth champion, might have fallen off of Modremoth’s path due to the influence from Ventari’s teachings. We saw something similar to this with Glint. I remember reading Scarlet’s backstory how she did not want to be defined by Ventari’s teachings. Could Modremoth be influencing her somehow through the Dream?
3. The Pale Tree tried desperately to pull Scarlet looking deep into the Dream. Was The Pale Tree trying to stop Scarlet from discovering the truth?
4. In one of the Sylvari personal story line, we met a Sylvari from another Pale Tree. So it makes sense that an Elder Dragon has multiple champions?
