Ah yes, how dare they implement stuff people have been shouting about since release?
The fact that they are implementing stuff to make it closer to GW1 (mega-server) should make you happy.
But I suppose people will always complain, no matter what.

What Would Your Character Have Said to Jory?

My sylvari Mesmer would have answered:
“I didnt feel joy from it. She took the wrong path. Her death was inevitable, but, deep inside, im still cursing myself for failing to save Ceara from Scarlet.”
Ah the times whe firegrab could do 16k…

The Dragoon Brotherhood
Here are the people who are kittened off by the change so far:
-dual legendary holders, + other expensive exotics
-people who like to mix-match town clothes
-people who bought multiple dyes
-people who absolutely hate anything involving the gem store
The first three I can get behind, the latter I have no sympathy for because they think GW2 should be a charity.
As with all changes, there will be people who will be negatively affected. And they are more than likely to be vocal about their displeasure.
Either way, these changes are for the good of the game – it’s players and creators.
So when the blog was posted, people responded with, largely, elation. There was confusion about certain wording and such, but with the discussion, people figured it out, and an hour after the blogs were released, mostly everyone was excited, elated, and optimistic about the coming changes.
But 2 hours after the blog was posted, attitudes changed. Many people began pointing out “flaws” and complaints on the new system. People are decidedly less excited. Are they different people? Maybe, but not really. I’ve seen specific posters (no names) go from happiness to fear, out of speculation and paranoia and distrust of the game company that they obviously care about.
Why is this? Why does the community reaction appear to decline almost exponentially? I’m still elated, but I know many others are not. They’re angry. They were excited, but now, no longer.
Is it a mob mentality? Do members of the community see a negative reaction and follow suit quickly? I don’t know. I’m very very interested to get some answers though.
So here it is: if you were happy but now aren’t, what changed? Was it further speculation, introspection, knowledge, what? And if you were first unhappy, but are now happy, what changed?
Thanks for reading!
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Which isn’t a bad thing. I’d rather pay for a charge here and there and never worry about loosing a look then having a full bank of skins and stuff I haven’t had a chance to find homes for.
Fire is meh, the whole traitline is rather poor. So you burn someone and blind them great for Scepter and its Auto attack, average for anything else and weakened due to the trait line it is in
Air. Yawn. Terrible.
Earth is TERRIBLE. It has very average skills and is pretty terrible when going with D/D at the very least. This trait wont be taken by quite a few i dont think. Being in Earth and with D/D you are not a threat so not being able to be Crit hit means nothing.
Water. Terrible.
Arcane. Terrible. No chance it would be taken over Evasive Arcana.
I have to disagree with you on this. This open up a lot of builds for the Elementalist mainly a condi bunker build. I’m really excited for Stone Heart, Blinding Ashes, and Elemental Contingency. But yeah, Air and Water are rather Meh. I’d rather take Cleansing Water over Aquatic Benevolence. I think only Staff has enough Interrupts to fully take advantage of Lightning Rod.
1. Blinding Ashes plus Stone Heart – Gives you a Condi Bunker Elementalist which would work very well on Signet Builds especially D/x.
What traits applies Burns?
Flame Barrier, Burning Precision, Fire’s Embrace (Fire Aura from Signet Activation). Blinding Ashes has 5 seconds ICD which means you can pretty much proc blind every 5s. Now you can also get Runes of Balthazar for more Burning + Blind Procs.
Pros: Tanky Elementalist that can semi-spam blind and can be immune to Crits when he chooses too. Decent Condition Damage and Duration because of Trait line bonuses.
Cons: Still lacks access to conditions. Getting GMs in 2 lines will leave you with just 10 points which is not enough to get Elemental Attunement and Lingering Attunements. Long Attunement Cool Down.
2. Full Bunker. Stone Heart plus 20 or 30 in water. Maybe 0/0/30/20/20.
Pros: Good ability to tank plus condition cleansing.
Cons: You’re pretty much just a tank. Other condi bunkers can still do better.
IMO Earth has a couple of good traits for bunkering. Armor of Earth, Elemental Shielding, Rock Solid, and Geomancer’s Freedom.
There are a lot of other builds in my mind. If Elemental Contingency works like EA where each Element has its own ICD, I’d love to try it. With Boon Duration, the all the boons you can get will be at least around 4s+. We may also see Fresh Air + Stone Heart Ele builds.

If you check the properties of the GW2 shortcut, you can add -bmp in the target after “Gw2.exe”. like that
“link/Gw2.exe” -bmp
It will allow you to take screenshots in BMP.

best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
in LA?
the moment they removed the GW1 LA fountain is the moment they removed the last part of GW1, GW2 is now officially unrelated to GW1.
So… the Norn, Asura, Humans, Charr, every single location in the game, even some of the enemies, that are the exact same as they were in GW1, dont relate the two games?
People forget that there’s been something like 2-3 centuries that pass between the timepoints the games take place in. The GW2 LA was already nearly unrelated to the GW1 LA when it was drowned by the raising of Orr.
Also, HoM. Just sayin.
The first elder dragon added to the game since launch looks to be tied to the sylvari.
For the Living Story at least, that’s only because we happened to get Mordremoth first. Expect heavy emphasis on the Asura when we go after Primordus, Norn when we go after Jormag, etc. Hang in there. Your race of choice will get its day.
Story and lore is why I play. Can’t play a single player rpg with my husband, thus why we’ve gravitated to MMOs. So we can partake of the story and adventure together.
If I wanted just a strait up hack and slash without a lot of story or adventure, I’d play mortal combat, tekken, or soul caliber. Sure those have some story, but they aren’t rpgs. It’s not the same thing.
Personally, I think we could use some more story in the pve setting. There really isn’t reason why an mmo can’t have as much story as a single player rpg. It just has to be adapted to a larger scale with co-op capability.
I know, not the most popular opinion I know but hear me out.
Killing Scarlet truly feels like a fan-appeasement cop out. Players demanded you ditch scarlet and get on with the dragons and then that happens in that order, practically in the same cutscene.
But whether it was planned from the start or not that scarlet would bow out here really doesn’t change the fact that the story just wasted months of build up on one character to kill her off before she gained the chance to become a three dimensional character. Forever will she now remain a two dimensional character with a lot of negative player sentiment.
Here’s just one of many examples of the things you could have done to advance scarlet’s character.
Our heroes opt to imprison scarlet instead of killing her. The first chapter of the second season would see scarlet imprisoned in an impenetrably force-field within Rata-sum.
We then get to learn about the connection between mordremoth and scarlet and attempt to sever the connection. And succeeding scarlet is reverted to Ceara… Who from then on dedicates her life to trying to make amends for all the stuff she brought down. And failing due to the sheer justified hatred for her. These could have been optional side quests in the living story going forward. Giving the player choice to shun her or assist her (with equal reward).
This story seriously lacks supporting secondary stories and this was an opportunity to create one.
Alternatively you could have had a vote… Right at the point where you kill Scarlet… Given the players the choice to imprison or kill her. Perhaps with negative consequences for choosing the easier option down the line. And played out the remainder of the cutscene on the 18th.
Instead, Scarlet is dead… A grotesque sacrifice to the easy route and player appeasement.
I realize that there are times when killing a villain is the only option. I just think that at this moment, this was a wasted opportunity… Sadly one of many.
Scarlet Stomp is extremely annoying

This achievement requires skill to understand the mechanics of her stomp interupt. You can get tips from Dulfy if you feel you’re stuck.
Lol, loving the classic example of game forums here. “why so negative?”
“I’LL TELL YA WHY I’M SO NEGATIVE BUT FIRST I GOTTA PUNCH SOMETHING AND THEN I’M GONNA YELL AT THE GAME COMPANY (who probably won’t see this post anyway) AND I’M JUST GONNA BE MAAAADDDDDD!”
I agree with you, though. This update is COOL. We finally get to kill Scarlet, and in a pretty cool showdown, I might add. The hologram fight is truly fun and interesting every time.
I’ll give all the ranters two things. One- it’s buggy as all get out. I haven’t played it in the past few days, maybe they’ve fixed it. All I know is, what an earlier post mentioned. In the first 6 days, we had 6 patches. (psst, that means they’re working on it. Don’t be a grouch.)
Two- zerging isn’t for everyone. There are those of us who like to take everything down in the most systematic, speedy way possible. They want to hit all three knights at once. Not because they need the ach, necessarily. That’s just how it makes the most sense to them.
Then, there are those of us that just wanna SMASH THINGS! Hmm, I can beat up this robot with 40 people.. Kinda tough though. What if we get the other 80 here? I bet we can blow the durn thing up faster, then just run to the next one and give it a similar beating! That’ll teach their metal butts to mess with a group of 120 angry Tyrians!
Anyway, stay classy. Hopefully everything will be right soon.
P.S. When you finally get to the end, and a little bug gets through.. Instead of raging, try laughing. It’s healthier. Pic related, this was supposed to be Marjory and Kasmeer’s ‘tender moment’. I lol’d.
The music IS amazing but its not long it just loops between the phases. : )
The problem with dueling is, it wont be skill based or competitive.
Because the player who has the best PvE gear and access to all traits and skills will have an advantage to change tactics against the player who doesn’t.Most people I know who take PvP seriously wont duel anyways, unless it’s in the sPvP arena where all players are truly equal in terms of having access to everything they need to strategies against their opponent.
You make it sound like getting access to all traits and skills is hard o_O
I make PvP & WvW videos
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

9/10.
I don’t understand your complaints, people.
All those powerful effects in the Fire Magic line….Earth Grandmaster soooo strong too!
I believe the approach to ele balance is: nerf anything viable so that the garbage that is abundant in all traitlines doesn’t look so bad.
Edit: Also, I forgot to mention this: ele’s aren’t allowed to have nice things.
(edited by BlackBeard.2873)
The current state of Diamond Skin makes it far too strong against condi classes. If you run Carrion or DIRE, forget about winning against an Elementalist using Diamond Skin. The main source of our DPS is all but gone, and it’s nearly impossible to get D/D and S/D elementalists below 90% HP with the tons of healing they have using power alone, depending on what class you play(Condi warriors should be fine). The trait should be redesigned to be similar to that of the Engi’s below 25% HP condi immunity trait, NOT above 90% HP. Then at the very least it would be more balanced in a 1v1 scenario yet provide eles with more toughness during zerg fights and small battles.
Have you even tried it??? I have, and it was near useless. Take 1.5k – 2k damage and tada game over. So even a non power necro with scepter 1 you can do ~500 damage an attack, so 3 – 4 attacks and the player is now affected by conditions. Or 1 hit from any profession that does 1k – 3k damage, tada now Diamond Skin is inactive.
We spend 14 months trying to prevent a sylvari from awakening her master, an elder dragon. With all the heroes of Tyria, we failed in that task and yet I’m being told that there is no proof that sylvari can be corrupted. If the last season of the LS isn’t proof that a sylvari was a dragon champion, then there is no such thing as proof.
Let me put it this way:
As I understand it, in the [Lore] guild there is now speculation that sylvari born from the Pale Tree can not be corrupted. In other words, sylvari under the influence Dream can not be corrupted.
Scarlet broke/was disconnected from her ties to the Dream using Omadd’s machine, unlike the Soundless who are using meditation to stay disconnected from the Dream. This mean that arguably/possibly Scarlet could have been corrupted.
However, there is no proof she was corrupted and there is a huge difference in being corrupted and being influenced by an Elder Dragon.
I wouldn’t view ED corruption as something like radios or cell phone reception lol.
I’m sure the corruption is down to the DNA, or magical.
That the corruption has always been in the Sylvari, just somehow the pale tree has been able to stop it.
Of course the EDs influince for Sylvari in the form of dreams and nightmares, perhap because the ED itself was still asleep.
Maybe Scarlets way to stop the nightmares was to wake the dragon up.
Though we don’t know 100% how the link between Sylvari, Pale Tree and Mormedoth works so…soon maybe? Lol
Or it was Abbadon corrupting Scarlet the whole and he’s not dead because magic.
Hello all,
Please remember to be respectful towards our staff while giving your feedback. You can be critcal and offer your opinions & suggestions, but we ask that you keep the rude & insulting comments out of your feedback. Thank you.
Please don’t delete them!
You can hold on to your extra blade shards, as the team will be adding something later which will allow you to convert the shards to something of value. Dev will be announcing more on that later. Thanks!
Thank you for telling us.
Cool that I get to know that now. I already trashed like 10 stacks? W/e…
Your own fault, I think…

One could make the case that they currently want people to partake in the LS rather than “buying” the experience off the TP. After it’s conclusion, they might un-account bound them.
That said, I just wish I could put them in my collections. Especially since the Gift of Sprockets is dropping them now.
20/10.
Shaky introduction, and I will admit that my non-literal love for her has developed over time. Now I find myself fondly looking back at the time she was formally introduced in Divinity’s Reach, her chilling 12 seconds “Theme”, and the developement her behaviour and actions had taken from there. Her short story, as I suspected, contained all the answers from the very start – it was simply a matter of deciphering and understanding, as a good story should be.
I do not like my characters pointed with a marker too clearly.
Contrary to what most may say, and this coming from a very avid lore shark, Scarlet has been the most interesting antagonist I had seen in a long, long time, waking ranges of emotions that go from wicked giggling to actual sorrow for her fate, and how -actually- dramatic her character had been from the very start, hiding under the veil of lunacy and prankster-y while struggling with her own sanity.
I also loved the narrative route taken, where opposing to multiple stories, the “reader” only knows as much as our characters do. Kudos for not feeding us every bit of information right from the start – I really appreciated that.
I’ll remember Scarlet, that is for sure.
Good job Anet, and rest in peace, Scarlet.
