Why all the hate on the ranger?

Well, for me it’s more about the players who still play rangers atm.
Because, it seems, all the people who like to optimize builds and do their best switched to war\guard\mes long time ago. And now like 95% of rangers are those horrible bearbow rangers, who are next to useless in a dungeon.
I keep hearing about useful rangers, with swords and buffs and stuff like that. But in reality all I see in dungeon pugs is same old longbow+bear in tanky gear spamming #1 in far end of the room.

Wow you people are brainwashed into thinking getting rewarded is “fun”. It’s not. The rewards are entirely worthless virtual pixels. You play games to experience the game and have fun. That’s what games are for. Ultimately you will leave the game and all these rewards become worthless. The only thing valuable you get out of it is the experience itself. Sure it’s nice to be rewarded since it contributes to the game experience, but now it feels like people are demanding rewards to be handed to them on a silver platter for the most superficial things.

This is exactly what gambling addicts are like, they are addicted to the promise of getting rewarded, even though the reward ends up being worthless compared to the time/money invested into it.

Don’t fall into this trap, play the game for the sake of the game, not for the “rewards”, otherwise you’ll find yourself disappointed with the hollow experience and wondering why you bothered in the first place.

Actually, getting rewarded is fun. Why do think slot machines are so popular? It’s the dopamine.

So I've used 2 aether keys.

BP has someone like this a few months ago. Good Ole Arif Q. He would place build a gazillion trebs in our SM. Dude also had a commander hat. His favorite thing to do would be to get people to follow him and then lead them off cliffs.

Piken has now become a High pop server, all this in a matter of hours!?
As usual with Anet decisions this is a total mess. How hard wopuld it be to judge a server WvW attendance by going over the last say 2-3 weeks and using the average per an hour as an inidication ant then use that as a basis for Server costs.

The insane population servers should be LOCKED for transfers. It should be FREE all the time to go to Low population servers and then base the rest of the servers on the population per hour?

There is an absurd amount of crowd control in this game. Guardians have stability. Rolling one means you get some relief from bieng stunned, knocked down, dazed, slowed, immobilised… usualy all at the same time. Its no wonder people roll one. Without them WvW would be unplayable.

We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional

Yes, you’re definitely confusing “trolling” with saying the game sucks. Banning people for posting negative feedback on official forums would easily be death sentence to ANet’s reputation. Not to mention absurd.

Otherwise,y these forums have some of the strictest and effective mods I’ve ever seen. So much as being “impolite” often warrants your post being deleted entirely. Actually a very appropriate policy considering what we’re dealing with here.

Saying the game rocks/sucks is perfectly appropriate feedback. Maybe not very detailed, sure, but it’s still someone’s opinion.

Agony resist is in general a stupid gating mechanic that really shouldn’t exist. It’s just so specific to one tiny area of the game and doesn’t do ANYTHING in the rest. Which seriously bothers me.

Wasn’t this their reason for doing away with MF? So you didn’t have to choose between something that would help you in one part of the game versus something that would be more efficient for a group?

Anyone running those +5 versatile infusions in anything other than a fractal are being less than efficient.

Quit being leeches and get those expensive +5 precision infusions!

Serious responses start here:

1) Grenade engineer to stack might and vuln and output consistent DPS for when pugs insist on range stacking. Also heals, CCs, stealths, reflects, etc. God tier carry for bads in general.
2) Mesmers for portals. Run through half of Arah, portal rest of pugs through.
3) Rangers for fury. Most pugs don’t stack fury, so that area fury alone is a blanket 15% extra DPS or so.
4) Elementalists for raw DPS. With the terrible damage of most pugs, you’ll probably double or even triple the party’s total DPS as an ele.
5) Guardian for protection stacking and Aegis. Nice because pugs don’t dodge so damage negation is important.
6) Warrior for banners and shouts. Limited in usefulness because pugs don’t carry banners usually.

Sorry to say but you’re wrong in a few things there, Rangers is a NO as well as Engineers. No room for them in good dungeons.

Guardian is great for a few things, but if you run an altruistic guardian GTFO.
Berserker or go home tbh
Warriors, do not use shouts. Shout warriors can also walk home with the Altruistic Guardians, Warriors are for pure DPS, Full zerker. There is no other use for them.

Tryhard Ranger so you can switch to bearbow and join in on the leeching if they’re terrible.

Why carry pugs when they 99.9% of the time aren’t going to be grateful/acknowledge your carry/don’t learn anything from you anyway?

Anet should balance PVE by balancing skills not bosses.
Once it will be done we will have 90% less complaining about easy istances…..

Also if people werent so forced to farm gold we would have runs for fun and not for rewards….

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I hope they don’t nerf it, it’s been a fun and profitable way to level my newest alt. I hope they nerf dungeons because people just farm them over and over and they’re not enjoyable in any way whatsoever.

And your not farming champs over and over of course… double standards much!

Anets idea of a living breathing openworld environment is to create a groundhog day effect because they know the actual openworld events have next to no replay value in them. To keep players logging in they have pushed everyoneone into a farm frenzy in order to catch the carrots they take pleasure in dangling.. want that nice legendary or ascended then go grab the mats… don’t wanna farm the mats go buy from the TP.. wait need gold for tp or for gems so create farm rotations and players will come back time and time again. Of course the more players log in, the more likely the will tire of champ trains and fall back into the credit card/gems approach instead.. simple MMO herding tactics and we all love it and hate it.
I am no fan of champ trains or boss rotations.. ANET seem clueless as to how to keep players in game without it, but that’s how it is.
Personally I would prefer it if they gave all openworld content a makeover, get rid of rotations and have champs/bosses spawn on a random trigger by something in game , like joe blogs killed a spider in Queensdale .. ding something somewhere on map gets triggered. Whilst they are at it take away the guaranteed rare item but make loot trees more appropriate and place a 12hr timer on being able to loot that champ purse again.
And don’t even get me started on boss guesting causing overflow issues for players on their own map.. that BS needs to get sorted.. you wanna guest expect Boss event lock outs for 1hr before you can get involved, maybe then the problem will reduce, not entirely but some for sure.

Can we change the word ‘dungeon’ in the title to ‘the game’, or even ‘besides the game devs, MMOs’?

I can’t say I’ve tried this path yet, or will even bother due to various reasons, but the elitist attitude is something I commonly see in this game and have seen plenty of times elsewhere… and I hate it. On another MMO, I worked my way up to the elite of the elite as a healer. Then I had to make that difficult situation: do I use my raid locks to run this end game content with the elitist kittens who will give me a slightly faster run at the cost of making me feel sick; or do I join a random small guild/group of friends/pug and near enough carry them through it while teaching them the mechanics and helping them get the better gear so that they can compete with the elitists? Safe to say, there were a lot of players walking around in shiny new gear that would’ve otherwise been vendored.

If you’re such an amazing player, why do you need a group of amazing players to get through a run? Why not use your god-like skills to help those who need it? The feeling that you’ve actually helped someone is (or at least should) much greater than shaving a few minutes off a run.

Also, ilr, you’re definitely correct about a lot of the so-called ‘elitists’ being bad players wanting an easy ride… but the people you called ‘elitists’ are simply ‘elite’. They can often be, but don’t necessarily have to be, one in the same.

As far as I’m concerned 5 man dungeons are the bane of the game.

How is content that can be completely ignored and bypassed even able to be considered the “bane of the game”.
You can literally customize your experience to do them and that’s if you even choose to do them.
I can understand the champ farms being called out but the dungeons?

All dungeons allow is for there to be more difficult content that doesn’t interfere with the “I’m going to watch some MST3K while running around in my Staff Guard to farm events/champions” group.

It’s roughly 2.4 gold in 20 to 30 minutes. Seems fine to me as far as dungeons go.

But I also think dungeon rewards should be doubled in most cases, including the new dungeon path. In a few other paths, rewards need to be rethought entirely. For example, the first path of Citadel of Flame shouldn’t be giving the same gold reward as the third path of Crucible of Eternity.

People were asking for nerfs right after Tequatl was updated, but it still ended up being an incredibly awesome fight- this game needs more challenging content, not less challenging.

And how many people bother with him now? Not very many is my guess.

While I enjoyed my time in the new path last night even though we didn’t finish it I don’t think the game needs more content like Tequatl. He may as well be temporary content if no one bothers with him anymore.

““kill helo!!” " was probably tellin you to kill the holograms which is how you destroy the generators and you guys didnt understand, he saw that and probably thought it would be a waste of time to continue.

You mean that typing “Guys, you kill the generators by killing the halos, please focus on halos, do not attack gens” was too much of an effort?

I finished this dungeon and we only had one guy rage quit on the oozes. Oddly once replaced, we did the oozes on the second try like a walk in the park.
My issue is that the mechanics are interesting and punishing yet ppl see fit to explain them in two word sentences: “kill halo”, “follow path”, “kite ooze” and then have the expectation that once this direction is given, you will immediately proceed to follow it flawlessly. How am I supposed to know how to kite the ooze if I had no time to see the spring? Where am I supposed to kite the ooze to if I did not get to see the end of the path yet?
And at the end of the day, part of the fun is to understand the mechanics. Sure, I will kite the bloody ooze but you need to first give me 2 mins to check the spring and then walk to the end of the path to see the end point.
