hahaha TheReaper – I’d always wished for the opportunity to fall into Nightmare, and now perchance will be able to dominate, instead of being called a salad or fire fodder. Ceara/Scarlet was a martyr of the one true superior race. Let our true master Mordremoth show the meat sacks the errors of their ways.
Y’know this may explain why they chose Scarlet as the villain of this LS. The pact is just too strong to continue creating a compelling story around, it’s basically become the superman of GW2.
However, it just so happens the pact is lead by a Sylvari… and a Sylvari who provided no help against Scarlet at that. If ire continues to rise in all the races against the sylvari race the pact may be broken by internal strife and prejudices, allowing for a much more compelling story arc then ‘Follow Trahearne in to battle again’ as we face the next dragon.

I thought about this some and chatted with a few guild mates a couple weeks back and we thought it would be very nice if they did something like this. We were thinking of a LS season followed by a PS expansion, alternating until the end of time. I would be thrilled if they came out and told us we were getting a PS expansion and we kill mordy, and after a while they start up the LS to lead into the next one.
Kindof dangerous to have nothing for 10days

I honestly WISH there was something for us to do but I recently convinced my friend to get GW2 so I’m kind of glad its quiet now so he doesnt miss too much more. I hooked him by retelling the events of Living Story season 1. So don’t screw this up ANet! You’ve been slowly proving that you’re learning how to make LS better, make season 2 the best yet!
It is bad enough running around on a Sylvari with all the NPC hate now- can you imagine if I was wearing Scarlet’s hair?
it would be instant pitchfork time
ANet had zero problem making money off of Scarlet’s armor in the gem store, both the Magitech armor, which one only needs to look around the game to see is quite popular, and her more iconic battle armor, which can also be seen around and some people have done some cool things with dye-wise. Her gun is the hottest thing going on the BLT that is not a Legendary or precursor (currently the 60th most expensive item in the entire game).
I’ve played probably over a hundred hours the last two weeks, mostly guesting on Blackgate, and I have not once seen anybody being badgered about using any of her gear (other than that some people don’t like the look of the gun). And if you’ve seen it once or twice, that’s nothing compared to the number of people who are using it.
Reasonable adults are able to separate virtual gear or cosmetics they think look cool from a fictional character that used them. The only unreasonable ones who apparently can’t are those who need to defend the decision not to make a very clearly in-demand hairstyle available.
I’m sure ANet has their reasons, one’s that have hopefully have nothing to do with protecting players’ feelings or the belief that Scarlet’s cultural and historical significance is equivalent to Hitler’s (or even Darth Vader’s). Whatever those reasons are, I’m struggling to find an argument that would show the disappointment is unwarranted.

Go to the new graveyard, talk to the npc’s crying for their lost ones.
One of them gives a good setup for the next season..
Humans vs Salad.
E.A.D.
Well, in this exact case I made a minor mistake too, by relying on my deduction based on trusting recurrent experiences.
On the other hand, the main problem here is Anet’s inconsistency. In Guild Wars, the token reward vendors stayed for at least half of their duration after the event too, some remained permanently. Also, we had fewer tokens that could be used repeatedly next year or during other events. Here we have tons of different tokens and all of them are just temporary.
Regarding release dates and proper communication with player base. In Guild Wars (and almost all other games) we got exact times by hour and minute when the next content will be published, so we could expect and prepare for them. Here, we have no information, sometimes the patch is late by a day or a half, other times it’s early by hours.
I’m a programmer and sort of developer myself, and what I’ve learned about any development process in overall is that the most important thing is consistency. It applies to games, teaching, training, any aspect of life.
I’d strongly recommend to any dev who reads this post (probably none :] ) to consider this problem and apply the solution to their developing habit.

New patch reveals that they do know about the dragon. Some fat chick is investigating.
She’s not fat! She’s voluptuous! Learn the difference.
I don’t understand why we would go after Mordremoth straight away.
Because it woke up more or less in the backyard of two of the Major races capitals and it got supercharged from the Ley-line?

SPOILER: Jokes in bad taste.

I get that Scarlet was the villain, but I felt horrible listening to Marjory and the others joke about her death.
Previous LS updates established that she’s been driven crazy by some external force that she encountered in the Eternal Alchemy and could no longer mentally fight it. We should pity her or mourn for those she’s killed, not make childish jokes about what it felt like to deliver the death blow.
Not to be rude here, but I’m genuinely curious – do dialogue ideas get checked before they are added? If so, did no one suggest that joking about killing a mentally unstable character might be in poor taste?
Except fiction can also be a reflection of the society we are living in.
And it is a sad world we live in
We are constantly reminded about Kas and Jory homosexual relationship.
People celebrated their representation because as society we become more open and accepted toward other sexual orientation.
Yet the irony is where we celebration one social group rise up while stepping on others
Imagine Scarlet has a female lover and upon killing them we are forced to make a joke about their death.
just imagine the uproar we would see on the forum
Scarlet was responsible for the destruction and deaths. While her action certain makes her death more justifiable in this fictional world, she does not deserve to be dehumanize (desylvarized).
It would’ve been better if the 3 answers we can choose simply reflect the 3 personalities (honour, charm, agression)
A thank you note for making GW a better game. I think people have seen the difference between a map with an active commander and without. In WvW its the difference between alot of pugs staying on the map for more than a minute. In PvE its the difference between a coordianted map effort or people just farming for loot, not even trying to win.
It takes a lot of effort to organize things and it may seem like a waste when things fail, people wipe, or map chat gets filled with hate and rage comments. But some stick with it and try no matter what and eventually they get a crowd or have a good enoguh group to succeed. The ones who make serious attempts at commanding in Overflows and EoTM must be even harder as you dont have your servermates, but people you wont see again and way less guildies than a home map.
Feel free to comment if your gw2 has been positively or negative effected by commanders
Now that well can put the ugly, horribly written story of Scarlet behind us. Anet have probably taken on board all that went wrong with their first ever LS arc. I have no doubt that things will only improve and it seems like we’re off to a good start.
Seriously. I am so tired of seeing these things. They’re still in Kessex, Queensdale, Gendarren Fields…! People stopped doing them or caring about them before that patch was even over. They’re a blight and the fact ANet hasn’t bothered to remove them now that Scarlet’s forces are no more is really, really annoying to me.
I’m not asking for Kessex to be back to normal at all. I’m glad they left part of the map damaged by the whole thing— but these events should really be gone by now.Since we’re going after Modremoth next, it makes sense to keep them around. The Toxic Alliance is the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Nightmare Court, and the Plant Dragon has some sort of connection to the court. I hope we see more of them in the LS updates!
I really hope Anet decides to name the main leader of the bunch and show us the drama within this group.
Fair point. I wouldn’t mind them coming back, I suppose. Maybe the toxic-krait would hail Modremoth as their new god? The main problem I see with this group even staying together is that Scarlet baited the krait with the “obelisk” that was the Tower of Nightmare… which is, of course, gone. So I’m wondering what’s keeping them there.
It just feels like an oversight to leave the events as-is for so long, though. It’s like they just forgot about ’em.
They should of also named the main leaders of the Aetherblades, Molten Alliance, and Toxic Alliance. We should of also seen Scarlet interacting with these baddies as well.
^This is my opinion would have done a lot to make the bad guys be more than just cannon fodder. By giving them an actual identity, they would have become more than just another mob. Ok, so we had Mai Trin for the Aetherblades, but I would have really liked to see a prominent Krait leader, and a Molten Alliance leader.
One thing they should not have done, is take Mai Trin out of the story. She spends the majority of the story locked in jail, and then she’s sprung from jail, and escapes into the Mists. Way to go in keeping her completely uninvolved with the plot. Confronting Mai Trin with the destruction that Scarlet was causing, would have been interesting. Maybe she could have changed sides in light of the slaughter that Scarlet was creating.

I think that “Feral Scarlet” is a personality that emerged to protect herself from the evil seed in the back of her head that was accidentally triggered by going into Omadd’s box. It’s all her rebellious tendencies dialed up to 11, relentlessly trying to throw off that influence.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I agree with you OP.
I’m not a big fan of LS in general but part of the biggest reason for that aside from how it’s all we’ve been getting attention to on the game is that the story itself lacks depth. It’s such a transparent script and mostly everything was really predictable. I didn’t feel engaged at all since I first began to pay attention to it many months ago.
This is just in: Canach is Caithe’s brother!
To be fair Canach IS Caithe’s brother.
Just like how every other Sylvari is their siblings.

Who wrote this plot? I had seen people act more logically in Disney films.
be grateful that there wasn’t any singing every 3 – 5 minutes
Fear not this night…
The wife and I were talking about this thread and she has pointed out that LA was attacked 3 times before Scarlett:
Zhaitan
Mad King Thorn (counts since he busted through the lion statue)
Karka
Lions Arch should have reinforced the city’s defenses LOONNNGGGG before they even figured out that Scarlett was going to attack.
LA deserves to STAY buried now.
Time to contract the Asurans and Charrs to put proper defenses in the 5 capitols.
Lady Alexis Hawk – Main – Necromancer
Ravion Hawk – Warrior
I’m more interested to know, WHERE she built the Drill. If there is a factory somewhere capable of building a drill THAT huge (it’s bigger than an entire fleet of airships combined) then whoever is in charge now (Mai Trin probably) can launch more and more attacks in LA, or any other town.
Also, let’s say that the Aetherblades DO own such a huge factory, where do they get the materials to construct it in the first place? I believe Caudecus is backing the Aetherblades, it’s the only logical explanation!
Who wrote this plot? I had seen people act more logically in Disney films.
What I am talking about is how easily Scarlet managed to destroy Lion’s Arch.
Seriously what’s it going to take for LA to see a real threat when warned about it?
I mean just 2 years prior to it LA suffered 2 major attacks! First from Zhaitan and then from the Karka. They really need only 2 years to become carefree again?
I am not saying that Scarlet should have lost the battle instantly. But there should be at least some real resistance preventing her from landing in LA and starting her digging operation just like that.
Question: WHERE IS THE PACT AND THE AIRSHIPS THEY USED TO FIGHT ZHAITAN?
Even if I were to believe they all got destroyed you would think they build new ones after 2 years right? So why aren’t any of them fighting the aetherblade airships? And is the pact on a 2 year vacation or what? I mean they defeated Zhaitan but celebrating for 2 years when there are 4 other dragons left is a bit too much. And aren’t our characters suppose to be commanders of the pact?
I mean if this was for real I would instantly go to Fort Trinity and say “Soldiers of the pact the terrorist Scarlet is going to attack Lion’s Arch we must not let that happen!”
The only explanation would be that everyone lost hope and want to live their life to the fullest for as long as they can. Yeah well that would make sense but BEFORE Zhaitan was defeated and not AFTER. At this point everyone who lost hope should have regained it and joined the fight because now it is clear that it is possible to stop this apocalypse.
1) Longer time limits (1 month minimum)
2) Less grinding
3) Less bugs
That would be the bare minimum… But there are plenty of other things that the Living Story should ideally have, such as:
4) A plot that actually makes sense
5) No time-gating
6) More content that is friendly to small guilds and solo players
7) Affordable items in the gem shop
8) More permanent items in the gem shop
9) Desirable items in the gem shop (enough with the gloves and pauldrons already)
10) More ways that the players can influence the story (Cutthroat Politics was a good idea but didn’t go far enough; if you really want the story to feel “Living” then make it less linear)
And many more.
To be honest, the Living Story is just rife with problems and needs to be scrapped. What we need is more development for sPVP, WvW, Dungeons, PVE, along with new skills, races, classes, zones, and bug fixing… Y’know. The stuff that matters.

Remember that bit in Scarlet’s backstory where she trained with a charr gun expert? She learned all she wanted, then went to leave. The charr, this expert with guns and deadly sniper, was upset by this and attacked Scarlet…
…with a blade. A blade that Scarlet simply dodged, and then she walked off. No shooting Scarlet in the back, or anything else that you’d expect of an expert sniper.
We’ve been written in the same way. All our skills and incredible abilities suddenly disappear when we’re around Scarlet, unless it advances her plans for us to be capable again. Even when she’s beaten, she STILL manages to either escape or, in the end, pull off her master plan. Our being there really didn’t change anything.
I hope they’ve learned this lesson for Season 2, though I’m not sure I’m even going to bother to watch and see when the time comes.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
A Norn, a Charr, a Human, and a Sylvari walk into a bar.
The Asura walks under it.
This.
This is an excellent idea.
ArenaNet, you ought to do this.
I really would like to see tengu as playable race, they’ve alredy Dominion of Winds very nice positioned near low lvl areas, so i guess implementing them would be easier than for any other (new or existing) race.
For class it’d be a bit harder due to balance, but i really hope for Dervish and Ritualist to come back to Tyria
What do you guys think? Is ANet going to surprise us with a new race during season 2 of a Living World?
I really think more people should be vocal about the game’s targeting system. This is the core of Gw2’s combat, and it’s absolutely horrendous, much like the camera system. Please let yourself be heard if you think this needs to change.
Yes the targeting system in GW2 is the worst I have seen, I play only one class/role, that being a ranger and from BETA to present my characters target is CONSTANTLY DROPPED or target switched when I use “Barrage” and has been ignored, I have been told by many others that it is a ranger thing only in that guildies who have multiple alts have this problem as well, but, ONLY when on their ranger. So, why the hate and TOTAL disregard to the ranger by this company.

Simplest thing of all to add: We need ALL FOUR DIRECTIONS on the rotating version of the mini-map. Not just North. The direction indicators must be BIGGER and ALWAYS ON TOP. (I.E. more visible!)
Super-easy! Why can’t they add that?
They took away the compass in Beta and replaced it with the mini-map, because people complained of having to constantly open their full-screen map to know where they were. Well you know what? Those of us who prefer a rotating mini-map (compass style) STILL have to constantly open our full-screen maps!
