I posted earlier about my client crashing (October 25, 2015 14:57).

Now I don’t even get an error message. The client just hangs and I have to kill it through the task manager. This happened two times now. Both as I was about to take a screenshot (pressed printscreen —> hang).

Miraculously I was able to re-log into the same map instance. Your brilliant event participation system informed me that I was no longer participating in the escort event I had been doing (Escort Arwyna to the Oger camp). So I ran to catch up, was able to, and followed Arwyna to the Oger camp. HOWEVER, since on the last few meters she does not encounter any enemies I could not re-gain event participation!

Do you even test your new features? Why give me a notification at all if I am unable to re-gain participation!?
This was not the only time that the event participation system kicked me from events without good reason. One other example: The pact soldiers in Verdant Brink you are supposed to escort to the camps multiple times just stopped moving, subsequently kicking ME for inactivity.

Please think more about your wonderful new features before you drop them into your game and cause frustration to your player base.

Party members are no longer visible along the edges of the minimap.. This occurs regardless of minimap zoom level and makes it extremely irritating to try and locate teammates in the same zone when they are even a moderate distance away.

Just came back after a little over a year of not playing(situation forced me to sell my old gaming pc), and find a new thing on here: NPE. I thought “Hey, nifty, a way for new players to get the feel of the game. Maybe it’s good for returning players, too.”

No. It isn’t. Level one: All you get is a basic attack. You can’t sit in your warm up instance and get the first three weapon skills unlocked right away anymore. What’s more is that I can’t bloody die there, either. What kind of bunk is that?

I can say with honesty that I don’t like it. Not in the “It’s new so must be bad” sense, but in the “This is boring, I’m not having fun” sense. I loved and applauded this game, bought copies for all my friends, and don’t regret that at all. This NPE though, it makes me want to just mark all ANet mail as spam.

I do not like the new style of early game training wheels. The fun and unique flavor and gameplay has been replaced with something dull and droll. I got back into the game as a warmup for HoT. As Long as NPE is a thing, I’d rather play anything else.

Get rid of the NPE, or I’m getting rid of my account.

I recommend editing your post immediately and removing this info that can be exploited before it allows damage to be caused and sending it to the email I mentioned.

Before you go all melodramatic we do not know the current cost to build the new +5. Yes it may take some time to build up the War Room but it could simply be a scribe recipe like 50 badges of honor, 10 wood, and 10 leather.

Yes I get that it is gonna suck to have to rebuild up that progress to get our essential buffs back I don’t think it will be hard to do. From one of the streams that I watched they said that there is a separate WvW queue to build items (like +5) than the PvE things you may need.

I trust that Seth and the other programmers know how important these are to running efficiently in WvW and doubt that the new system is a disaster. Just wait 9 days and then we can pass judgement.

thanks for the reminders Vroom. i had forgotten about how they said there’d be a pve build queue and a wvw build queue. i trust the devs too. just a bit worried this new system will make life harder for small guilds. but ya, i guess waiting and seeing really is the only solution. lol

thanks again!

Revive cancel bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

yasutora.7218

We’ve all been there. One of your partymembers went down again, and ofcourse you are the one reviving him. Was it not a red circle apeared a few seconds after you started the ress right on top of you. Ofcourse, you panick, and try to cancel the process asap, but somehow moving, dodgint or hitting the esc button doesn’t seem to work. Your character just continues to revive the player, resulting in you yourself getting into the down state, and in some scenario’s causing your group to wipe. Often it doesn’t matter. But sometimes (take mai trin for e.g. in a fairly high fractal) it can be soooo frustrating.

I’m pretty sure this has been mentioned before but I’m mentioning it again. Is there a way that we can instantly stop reviving someone? I mean, this issue has bothered me before, but especially with raiding coming up, I feel like this really needs a fix. It is, and okay I’m running a guardian with fairly tanky stats, the number one reason that I die in dungeons nowadays, and I feel like that is bullkitten. Reviving another person in combat is dangerous, but one should not die because of a skill that you cast yourself and which you cannot interrupt.

So I ask you again, dear Anet, because I love your game. Could you please fix this issue, so that it will not ruin my raiding experience?

Much love,

Stormtwister

Isn't ANET embarrassed about forum search

Long story short: they are very aware about the issue and are also annoyed by it, but they haven’t been able to fix it or change it because they used a third party software that’s no longer supported, and no one there was able or had chances to learn how stuff works in order to be able to fix it.

This is correct. It would take substantial time to fix and it’s not a priority for the company right now.

Sorry, I wish search worked better too.

If your forum software really isn’t updated anymore, you as a web developer should know that you should switch to another one ASAP.

Outdated software, even something like a scripted forum, can have glarring security holes. If it isn’t a company focus, it should be. This forum handles user data… it should always be top priority to have it up to date.

I think what the OP means is they’d like to see the mail system be more convenient for communicating with their guild. It’s already a very useful system; it’s just restrictive enough to make it useless as a tool for guilds with more than 20 people.

However, there are some compelling reasons why those restrictions are in place: to prevent spamming, to cripple gold sellers, to hurt illicit coin launderers, etc. So any new system would have to take that into account. And unfortunately, there aren’t any easy-to-implement solutions. Anything that involves removing per-minute limits benefits gold sellers and launderers; anything that increases the character limit adds some stress to data management (admittedly, not that much, but it’s still something else to worry about on ANet’s end).

Accordingly, I think your best bet is to ask ANet to adjust the guild panel to meet these typical guild communication needs, rather than trying to over-turn the existing limits on mail. For example, add some sort of “I’m planning on attending” system to the guild panel.

Yes, spamming just anyone should be filtered. HOWEVER. If you are an officer in a guild (for context of gw2 a member of guild that can kick and invite members ) then you should have no restrictions on mass mailing fellow guild members. They delay is ridiculous, infuriating and just god awful design. You have no CC option. You have no subscriber option. Honestly it’s a very, very, very restrictive system that is near useless. It’s only use is to send very short Tweet like messages and attach non account bound items for friends. It’s potential uses are 10x that. It needs to be revamped. What would be idea is social media type of situation where each player has a a wall and users can subscribe to feeds. But this must be done in-game or it would still be useless.

If ANet wanted to build something outside game, a first-party solution for GW2 like GuildWork.com would be great. They could make it freemium so it matches the guild’s model and becomes another revenue stream. Just give us something.

My guess is it’s only certain lines from certain races and genders. So if it happens and you can remember exactly what it was try to post. If we can find a pattern to the problem then that gives devs a direction to go in. But as it stands now it’s too random to replicate and fix.

Another another aspect I would like to mention; When you send mail to a player you send to an account, e.g. AccountName.2353 however when you receive mail only the character name that the play was on when mail was sent is displayed. Please explain the rational of this design? Why has this not been retooled? Is everyone really too swamped to address the little details?

How large is the radius on the visible gold dots when working as intended? Will I be able to stand at EB spawn and see gold dots in enemy keeps?

Just like with party members you can see the gold dots anywhere in the world. The rate as which the position updates is much lower for players not in the same map as you (which is also how party dots work currently).

Thanks for the response, Seth. I hope this upcoming feature will have a toggle option, as I imagine people in guilds with 500 members might not want their maps to be obliterated by yellow dots.

Is this something that we’ll be able to toggle off?
Being part of a big guild, Teq will look really cluttered with a whole bunch of yellow dot around a commander tag.

Good feedback, thanks.

I tend to not consider how things will affect larger guilds because things (usually, not always) benefit them already, but that is a very good point. That clutter x.x . Besides, i’m always for having more control and choice, would have to agree having the choice to toggle that would be a good thing. Now, if only could actually toggle the story ui off…

The gold ‘guild member’ dot is an issue though. If you are in party, Why shouldn’t they all be blue dots still? You already know who is in your guild, having some party members in blue and some in gold because they are repping same guild, is just plain odd.

The dot at the edge of the minimap has been buggy at times for longer than we’ve had this gold color for guild members.

Edit: Why is this feature needed? Why should party members show as different colored dots?

Party members should not show in gold, they should always show in blue. Guild members that are not in your party should show in gold. The fact that this is working otherwise currently is a bug.

This feature, when working properly, allows you to see your guild members on the world map without the need to be in a party with them.

Guild Party Map Icon Possible Bug/Oversight

Last week there was some change to the the party member dot on the map. It’s always been a blue circle that shows up at the edge of the minimap when the party member is off that section of the minimap.

I party with a friend a lot and we’re in the same guild, and last week he started showing up as a yellow splotch sometimes instead of a blue dot. The same for him, he sees this issue too. There is no consistency to the way this is applied- sometimes he will be blue dot, sometimes he will be yellow splotch. I tested it tonight and it does appear to be related to being in the same guild, as he was yellow and then I switched to another guild and he turned blue, then back to our same guild and he eventually turned yellow again.

This change is not a good one- I’m presuming it was intentional, but it’s clearly bugged because of the inconsistency of it. We’ll go to a map and I’ll see him as blue and he sees me as yellow, then we go somewhere else and it’s reversed, or we’re both yellow or both blue, and we have no idea why.

Also, the yellow splotch looks terrible, it’s not even a dot. It’s like someone took the MS Paint dot icon and then smudged it a bit. The blue dot is a clear, easily identifiable indicator while the yellow splotch is just visual noise. But most importantly, the lack of visibility on the minimap is a killer. This is a useful function, denoting which direction to look in for your party member! Yellow Splotch version does not do this and thus is a significant downgrade. Why would you take away a useful part of the UI like that?

Computer Mysteriously Shuts Off Randomly

Couple of ideas here:

First, I know you keep saying over and over that it couldn’t be an overheat issue, but I’d try doing a full cleaning of your CPU fan and heat sink; make sure the fan is clean and blowing as hard as it can, clean out the heat sink of any dust, probably even give your CPU a new coating of heat sink compound (which is pretty cheap). GW2 tends to be more CPU heavy than GPU heavy, especially compared to other top tier games, so something like Skyrim might not have any problems, but GW2 might be pushing your CPU juuust hard enough to cause issues.

Second one is; How old is the hard drive GW2 is on? IIRC the GW2.dat file is actually a compressed form of all the games files, which it then decompresses the needed files during gameplay. If your hard drive is several years old and/or an off brand, it might be too worn out to keep up with the demand. Again, AFAIK this is something GW2 does that most other games don’t, which my be why you don’t have an issue (yet) with other games but have issue with this one. If you have multiple hard drives, you might try moving the game’s files to it (even if it’s some slow-kitten backup drive that has you suffering from pop-in graphics for five minutes every time you load a new area) and see if problem persists.

Finally, it could still absolutely be a PSU issue; I’ve had two Power Supply failures and the very first sign was random shutoffs without bluescreens or lockups. I’d look for something that tracks power usage and see if GW2 draws more juice than the other games you can play just fine. Could be a new PSU is in your future whether you like it or not. On the other hand… it might just need it’s innards cleaned, PSU get full of dust too, and some heat tracking software forgets that it exists.

Seems like an awesome change to me. Key farming was never intended, keys are supposed to be a major contribution to their gem store sales, but were being significantly undermined by key farming.

Hopefully with the restrictions in place they can increase the drop rates in the chests now so people will buy keys again.

I myself am not color blind, but I will agree with Kaitlu. This kind of accessibility issue is something that should be looked at, a long with other issues – such as text size and even text color.

A potential fix may be a color blind mode being implemented, that makes the colors of certain things a little more friendly to those with color blindness.

Either way, I support this.

Today the Hero Point Incomplete Icon has been changed. I am colorblind and have had some serious issues seeing it since. I brought this up in-game and even players who are not colorblind are having issues distinguishing the two. I searched the forums and noticed that there aren’t any posts about this yet. Can we please get a change made to reverse this difficult and unnecessary change? I am having trouble exploring the maps and actually determining at a quick glance which points I’ve completed and which I haven’t.

Thank you for the help ANet.

Well he got a point, say a person decide he want to be a kitten and troll me, he blocks me and then he sends me a message with loads of rude language, i can then block him, but the damage is already done. He already got his shot to insult me, i already saw what he wrote, so he goes out of this feeling great, it is a win situation for a person who are abusing something that easy could be fixed.
If you block a person you have no busniess writing that person anyway, you block for a reason, so why you should be able to write something to the person does not make any sense what so ever.

Now it might be that you feel this is not needed, but that does not in any way mean that the OP don’t have a good point, it is both good and valid and there should be a very easy solotion to it, and in the end the only thing you stop is the people abusing it.

Little section to talk about people’s reactions on this forum, guys; keep cool, the OP is just posting a suggestion and his opinion in a constructive way. Of course everyone should feel free to react to a suggestion, but no need to post again after that to absolutely convince the OP you’re right… I mean, it’s basically derailing the thread instead of staying on the topic: the suggestion
</off topic part>

Agree with you backup.1256: I don’t think it’s a bug, but logically if you block someone, you shouldn’t be able to whispe him or gift him items.
But it would seem really weird to me that this could happen, so I would tend to believe more RoseofGilead’s explanation.

In my opinion, both cases are/could be annoying. Of course, reporting is a viable solution, but once the invisible player whisped you well… The damage has been done – as explained by Leaa above -. Prevent players of doing this could probably discourage some (Yeah, only only discourage them because players attitude in general is the real crux of this bad behavior).

Even though I don’t think working on it should be a priority right now.
