I for one am excited about going f2p. Finally, no one can drop the kitten excuse of “I can’t afford it right now.”
I’m still somewhat sceptical of the impact on the game as a whole, but also fully intending to nag every friend who said they’re not sure or can’t afford it.
I’m also going to get a free account on the American servers. I’ve wanted to try playing on them for some time, but not enough to justify even the discounted cost.

HI NEW PLAYERS!
WELCOME TO GW2!
Look forward to helping new players and seeing their reaction to Tyria. So big HELLO!
Any new Yaks Bend players who want to join a social guild add my account name and feel free to pm the coolest person in the game!
Welcome new players. Advice from me, don’t become bitter about the game like i did.
Newbies are super cute. Be nice to them… if they’re Sylvari.
Everything else is open game to hazing.
Welcome new players to the more or less awesome game of Guild Wars 2. Pls dont mind the screaming veterans, just ignore them as the devs and the company do. Also dont mind those guys who look completely random with names like adofnn or ahsdgs. They will accompany you for your enitre game experience, chasing you like some creepy ghost and whispering dirty things in your ears.
Welcome newcomers!
Every starting map is filled with veteran players eager to help you!
Feel free to ask any of us let it be camera settings, loot and XP gaining, combo mechanism, skills or utilities!
I personally spend a few hours running around with new saplings and I met loads of other helpful veterans!
Welcome to Tyria!
Welcome newcomers!
I hope you will all enjoy the game as much as we do and will find a welcoming community, ready to help you out if need arises!
there’s really a lot going on currently in the starter zones, feels a bit like August 2013
I know new players can’t send mail with items, but can they still receive mail with items? I want to send out care packages but I don’t know if I can.
Even in europe we still have a welcome party going at 5.30 am :p
The best advice I give new players is: “Just play the game and have fun.”
Honestly, every problem you’ll encounter will be solved. From Loot to Vistas to Builds…
No need to hurry through it. Just play the game and have fun.

Also the most modest! :-)

The Secksy Monk [Guild Wars 1]

The no map chat things is a kittene. They don’t want troll and seller on those, but in the same time like you said, it’s usually a good source of info for new players. I don’t think there is a perfect solution to that problem.
Sure there is. Allow them to see chats but not reply.
When I say we need people on, say, the north hill, I do not need a reply from every individual player. It would be nice if the defense party said how many people they need, but if not I will run by, /map what I see, and urge someone to correct me if I was wrong.
I don’t mind anybody joining, as long as it corresponds to what I listed in the LFG’s.
I mean, “P1 80’s EXP”
And someone with 200 achivements and level 60 joins and says “im good doe”
Sorry, but there’s nothing at all wrong with someone not wanting newbs with them.
My 3 year anniversary in this game is coming up, and I realize I have nothing to show for it. My AP is barely at 5k, I have yet to find a precursor (when 2 friends of mine who started the game less than a year ago have both found at least one without even going through the Mystic toilet – something I’ve dumped more than 500 gold into), have no legendary items, my guilds are dead and dying due to the game being so stale, and I have less than 10g in my wallet.
But you – hopefully – have lots of fond memories of awesome in-game moments?
Because really, that is the main thing to take away from gaming.
You still can use the title Faithful, when you hit your 3y. That’s what I do, I’m like you, no other thing to show my dedication, but you know, precursors/legendaries have never been a real proof of that. Titles are the best proof I think, the anniversary ones, or the Hall of Monuments ones, if you played GW1 back in the day.
I think you’re looking at it wrong, especially when it comes to gold. I’m in a similar position to you, I’ve been playing since launch and I think I have about 2g right now. But obviously I’ve made more than that. I spent it, I’ll make more, then I’ll spend that too. That’s how it goes.
If you had 500g to throw in the Forge you can get 500g again. If you want a legendary save up and buy the precursor this time.
But more importantly it’s a game, the point is to have fun playing it, not to get more stuff than other people. As long as you’ve enjoyed what you’ve been doing it doesn’t matter what the reward was.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The thing is that this is a game – not a job. No one will care if you’ve played since launch and have “nothing to show for it”. If you’ve enjoyed your time in gw2 then that’s all that matters.
If you find it stale or are having a time with guilds then I’d suggest taking a break or even moving to another game.
I’m for f2p players getting map chat at 70+, because at that Point not being able to communicate in map chat will not only be a hindrance to them, but other players as well.
Just think about everytime you,ve seen someone going kitten because someone didn’t communicate something in map chat.
