TBH, wouldn’t it be nice if they just let you skip the whole starting area if you are not a first timer? Do we really need to learn how to press 1 each time we make a new character?

Prior to NPE, at least you could unlock some weapon skills there.

I’m going to pull out my tin foil hat for this one and say that all the classes where the exclamation show up are ones that have their elite specializations announced, so maybe there is a hidden elite specialization trait line that the game thinks we haven’t spent points in. Elite Specialization in next beta confirmed?!

We just did a live build. We fixed a bug that prevented progress from being displayed properly on certain characters. This correction will address issues related to a character’s training, collection items, living world progress, hero point totals, PvP reward track, mail carriers and a few other related issues as well.

Would have been nice if this info was included in update patch notes instead of ‘Fixed Server Crash’. Maybe you could edit them to reflect what was actually patched.
Thanks.

That was the same thing I was thinking. It is nice that what was solved is posted here, but the first place players will look is at the patch notes. And server crash is just silly. Maybe a server crash was the reason why progress wasn’t shown correctly, but most players like to know what is solved, not the way it is solved

The only ingame mail is the one you get if you were a victim of the bug and had the achievements removed. Legitimate people don’t get a mail… you get access to HoM back and another sorry from me for your wait.

I’m a bit confused by this. So us legitimate players won’t get a mail then? Then why did you say this……

I don’t decide these kinds of things, but there is an ingame mail associated with the fix! It’s a great email too… I think all of the people with legitimate HOM achievements will really like it.

Why exactly would legitimate players like a mail message that we are not getting? With this statement you made it seem like we would be getting something as legitimate players for our troubles, but now you are saying we don’t get a message? So what’s going on exactly here?

Level scaling is broken when in lower level areas.

I went to a level 4 Caledon forest area on my main necro who’s condi-spec.

Was attacking some level 4 mobs when I noticed that my bleeds did absolutely no damaged compared to normal. They used to kill these mobs in 1 tick but now they barely took 10% HP total.

So I checked the stat menu and behold:

Power 1200 → 87

Conditon damage 2200 → 12

(The big numbers are very close estimates since I don’t remember my stats exact value)

After some further investigation it seemed that Condition damage, Ferocity and Healing power gets riduculously downscaled.

My full zerk friend had 4 Ferocity and my healer guard had 4 Healing power (From 730 normal Healing Power).

Undermines all players in lower zones and needs to be fixed ASAP.

If it’s not too late, I would strongly recommend a rollback so you can fix these bugs at your own speed. They are confusing and high in number.

A lot of the hero panel stuff seems to be just the display. IE. collections, trait unlocks etc. My specialization unlocks say 0%, but I seem to be able to still do everything. Collection that were reset did not take away APs or skins earned through them.

If people are able to earn double rewards for these, that gives them an unfair AP hunting advantage. I don’t see how to fix that without rolling back.

I had 50/50 and gwamm etc legit. I still have the titles and the AP.

Same for skills. Skill is shown, but not the animation and movement from your character.

I’m also having all of these problems.

And I should clarify: all of these issues appear to be visual for me. It doesn’t look like I’ve actually lost any progress. I still have access to all of my skills and traits, my achievement point total remains unchanged, I still have all achievement related titles, etc. It just looks like all of those things have been lost.

Just for the record, we are NOT “rabid wolves.” We are just loyal gamers who worked hard to get our rewards in the HOM and cannot retrieve our rewards because of some bug that is now going into it’s 5th month with the only ETA of a relaunch of the working properly HOM is a generic “soon.” (Although, I have been informed it is a pretty good “soon” by Lauren in this thread —- a more specific ETA would be very nice)

Well, some act like rabid wolves. Because you are not unable to retrieve your reward because of a bug that is going into the 5th month… The bug has been fixed within hours. Anet could have opened the HoM right away but we requested (and hopefully they felt) that they also needed to clean up the mess the bug created and remove the rewards that were handed out for free.

Make story more personal and about us, I could care less about commander trahearne or destiny’s edge when really we are just a stand in and not even a supporting actor in our own story line.
Make norn spirits more personal and somehow involved in their beginning story.
make sylvari birth times more significant.
Asura colleges – make it almost like a competition between them
Charr legions are the only ones that feel complete
Human origin – somewhat complete but as a noble we should have a title and a claim to things, even a large house not just be a rich aristocrat. as commoner – we should live in a mediocre house that’s cozy. a street rat- let us take shelter in the sewers or a shack.
When I picked Raven for my norn mesmer – I was excited to see what my story held – and it was a real underwhelming feeling that I experienced knowing that spirits did not matter to the core of your norn or their story.

Bunch of diehard whiteknight (you know I’m talking to you) and corporate shill defenses in this thread.

Just another Dev you can’t put enough trust in to make pre-ordering a safe bet.

Anet is hovering just over Rocksteady and Ubisoft on my meter of trustworthy/competent Developers now.

I like the misuse and/or misunderstanding of some terms. I think even those saying to let Anet fix it properly are actually rather critical of Anet and hardly white knights. But some have an understanding of what is actually required to fix something like this. For someone to be a shill, they would need to be basically hired to fulfill those roles, would they not? Or otherwise benefit. Although I suppose if you think everyone that isn’t absolutely of the same mind as you, are hired either to undermine you or somehow to appease people? My how some things don’t change.

Now, my question for those that have been ranting and raving. Does what has been said here today convince you that they have been working on it and that it will be resolved soon? Or will the requests for more updates start all over again tomorrow?

Thank you for your time way beyond your job Lauren. Don’t envy you willingly stepping in front of rabid wolves >.>

So it is my understanding that they are more concerned with the “newish” players than the “veterans” because it is “disproportionate” to their monatary botton line?

No, that’s an incorrect understanding, at least as it applies to this situation. Some of the people they hope will buy HoT are veterans; some are GW1 players who aren’t yet GW2 players. Obviously, people who aren’t affected by this bug, well, whether ANet cares about them or not is moot for this particular bug, since these players don’t care much either way if it gets fixed today or next year.

I know it’s just business, and money talks……

Reputation matters, too. It’s pretty clear that they don’t like noteworthy bugs (of which this is merely one) slowing down their hype train for HoT.

but still an over 4 month now issue with no sign of a relaunch is a MAJOR disservice to thier loyal players and those who “worked the grind” to get all those goodies.

It’s a miserable inconvenience, not a “disservice” per se. It doesn’t prevent us from playing the game, just from enjoying a certain type of reward.

The thing is, there really isn’t much way to accelerate the implementation. Here’s a situation in which they didn’t change the HoM…and yet the rewards bugged out. So the cause is elusive and therefore the complete solution has to be very careful, otherwise it could trigger a different set of of foreseen issues. In other words, the presence of the original unexpected consequence suggests the potential for others — and my guess (based on the evidence) is that they ran into at least one more such issue, which is why the implementation didn’t happy “soon™” from the last announcement.

If they are actually working on this issue, a break from the constant HOT updates and a quick update on the HOM would be awesome

I would love that. I’m not holding my breath because (see below), they probably don’t have anyone assigned to do that. It’s my guess that ANet doesn’t have anyone assigned to communicate to the public about bug fixes or minor feature changes, which is why that we frequently don’t hear about stuff that does get fixed.

(Which is unfortunate for situations like this bug and for ANet, who should get credit when they do fix long-standing bugs. That often goes unnoticed because this same setup means we don’t always hear when that happens.)

(or is that asking to much?)

And, no it’s not “too much to ask” that someone keep us updated about this situation. It’s not asking too much, except that hardly any company in the world sets their teams up to communicate with their users on specific bugs like this. Microsoft doesn’t do it (and arguably they could afford to). Even within companies, people who work in tech often communicate poorly with their colleagues, when all that requires sometimes is picking up a phone or writing a brief email.

Another issue tech people speak “tech” and their customers/users speak English (or French, etc). So people who aren’t used to being cautious with word choice (on both sides) are being asked to do so.

Usually, the only way this happens smoothly & routinely is when the company dedicates a person (or team) of people to serve as “client managers” and that gets expensive — each client manager means one less developer (if not two) and most tech teams think (rightly or wrongly) that it’s better to have more coders/testers and fewer people who aren’t directly involved in producing their product (GW2 in this case).

tl;dr

  • Yes, we all — including ANet — wish this was already a done deal.
  • Yes, we all — including ANet staff working on this — wish there was appropriate communication on the topic.
  • Unfortunately, the first is delayed by unforeseen consequences of seemingly unrelated code changes and the second doesn’t happen because the company isn’t set up to update us about bugs in general (it’s not specific to this one).

Personally, I wish they would be faster and I wish they would learn that it helps their game for someone to stay in touch on notable issues that arise. I just don’t see either changing because we keep coming here to remind them.

SInce a certain made such a long response (namely Lunacy Solacio.6514), I will make mine short & sweet.
If this fix is so “risky”, why did they break it in the first place? They expect their players to “play by the rules” and they should as well.

To be honest, with all the hype of HOT and Dev. team being so “hush hush”, I’m not expecting the relaunch of the HOM till the release of HOT (if they remeber about it at all). I have just lost faith.

The “fix” is not risky; it’s apparently already done. The remaining work is to finish a script that reverses the unearned rewards without doing anything else. It’s easy to change a “flag” or "setting on an individual account. It’s easy to do it for 40 accounts. However this work requires a script that touches every single existing account, perhaps over 4 or even 5 million at this point. That means testing all sorts of other things that could be related to the way in which the points accrued or when they did.

The fact that this got bugged in the first place means there is some sort of unintended consequence of some other change (probably for HoT and its collections) and they have to ensure that there isn’t yet another unforeseen issue.

That’s what makes this tricky.

Look at it from their point of view: it would make their lives so much easier if they could get this done and out of the way. It would be a high profile win on a 4-month old issue, that disproportionately affects incoming newish players and returning veterans, the very players they hope that will buy HoT.

Lunacy Solacio.6514

To Lunacy Solacio.6514

No, I do not think badly of the developers of this game & I am not expecting “miracles”. I am only expecting them to address a high-profile problem such as this, fix it, and relaunch the fix in a timely manner. That is called good customer service. 4 months is NOT a timely manner and ALOT of people like me are frustrated that it isn’t already launched. Everything is all about HOT nowadays, and there are many, many “bugs” in this game that need to be fixed before HOT should even be launched. Why put more “bugs” in a game via expansion when the core game already has “bugs” in it?

As far as these “details” you speak of? Can you please show me where they are? I have yet to find anything that has a set date just “soon” or “eventually.” Maybe which major patch update, and when would be great.

If you spend all your time fixing every single bug, in any software, you will never get anything new. In something as large as an MMO? You might as well go ahead and close the server before you start. At some point, you make and release an expansion. You know, like the player base has been demanding.

Anet pretty much never releases a date for anything. We’ll know the date at best a week before it’s implemented. I never said there was a date anywhere. Saying that we have been given a lot of information, far more than is normally given, does not equal a date.
Think about what we are normally told about patches and fixes. At best we get the notes, about 10 minutes before the patch is released (usually 5 mins), with a lot of what has been changed.

We have been told:
*One programmer is working on the fix.
*He is meticulous, and determined to try and get it right the first time.
*It is not a simple fix, which should be obvious to all but isn’t.
*There were not tools available to edit accounts in this way because there was no real need to do so before.
*The fix is risky because it’s editing what was essentially never meant to be edited.
*Fix was being tested against everyone’s account that was affected.
*This issue was caused by a miscommunication between servers.
*It could have been far worse if the HOM was accessible in GW2 at the time this occurred

What this means:
*One programmer to avoid a ‘too many cooks ruining the soup’ situation. It’s possible he requested to be the one, and of course everyone is busy with HoM. But who else might be familiar enough with the situation to be anything more than a hindrance?
*This is also not going to be his one sole job duty. If you have ever worked in a corporate environment, or if you have ever written complex programs or scripts, you should have an inkling of the work load, especially when ‘priority’ situations arise. This is hardly game breaking. If it is breaking the game for you, I suggest going and doing something else, and check in on the patches occasionally.
*The fix is risky because of what it is editing. If done incorrectly, it is likely that it could corrupt accounts. How many people would this tick off compared to those upset over HoM rewards not being accessible? It would also cause Anet and this programmer even more work, so of course they are going to do everything possible to avoid this. Even being careful, it is likely a bug could still be introduced, so it’s being thoroughly tested. Isn’t this what so many people on the forums are normally calling for? It’s not realistic for everything, because you would have these kinds of waits, but this must be working perfectly when it’s implemented or it’s possible Anet might have to restore the entire database and practically start over again on the fix…

Now, compared to most issues, we are lucky to get a ‘We are aware and working on it’ and that’s it. Should they spend time responding to every thread that has someone demanding they do so? Solution to that would be to ‘triage’ those that aren’t of high enough importance. But that raises more questions, like, should you even take the time to say ‘we have nothing more to say at this time’, and so on. Are they the best at communicating with us? No, but so many people demand so much, and when they do communicate, THEY GET A TON OF FLAK ABOUT IT, so why should they? We have gotten far more than they need to tell us, and all I see people saying is basically, “They didn’t address my specific concern right this minute” and “They didn’t tell me the precise second of the minute of the hour of the day of the week of the month of the year on when this will be released.”

They can’t tell you what they don’t know. Should they come out daily and say “It Will Be Ready When It’s Ready™”? Seems rather pointless. And if they did that, they’d still get a ton of flak. So I’ll ask again, why bother?

Honestly, there is meticulaous, there is being really slow and lazy, and there is “Let’s ram HOT down everyone’s throat, and maybe everyone will forget about the major HOM screwup.” I believe ANET is hoping for the latter.

We have not forgetting about this MAJOR screwup ANET, you HAD 4 months already!!! How much longer will it take for you to clean up your mess and relaunch the properly working HOM for your customers?

No one has forgotten about it. They admitted the mistake, the fixed the problem from happening again. It just takes time to clean up something likes this (mostly, it’s the testing, not the actual fix or clean-up script — they really can’t afford to make the smallest mistake now).

Not sure what that would accomplish. That one person is working on it, we don’t really need periodical reports about how they are fixing it. When it is done, the HoM will be reopened.

Gee, what would that accomplish? Periodical reports about the HOM would keep their consumer base informed, which is a good thing. It’s not that is too much to ask since they keep updating us on HOT every single day! Also, as I have said before, they REALLY need to fix the major bugs in the core GW2 game (such as this one, and many others) BEFORE they throw in the HOT expansion and add MORE bugs (which some may be harder to fix & relaunch that this one.)
