^ That.
There’s an update and thank you for giving people more information, and going out of your way to give updates on many issues across the board.
I don’t think constant updates should ever be needed, but I know it is appreciated on many levels.
Edit: And hopefully it reinforces with people that this is not being ignored at all, that it is being taken seriously and will be fixed. Taking time so as not to risk messing more things up when it is implemented.

If you would use the forum search, you would know that this topic was discussed for years now… oh wait!
Want to hear where you are and an eta or something atleast.

We are still waiting for a fix…
I was really hoping that the fix would be included in last weeks patch. Maybe they didn’t want to push it out, because they knew they would have enough work fixing bugs with the new traits. But it’s more likely that it is still not done – which is disappointing indeed. That said, I do want it fixed, but I want it to be fixed properly once and for all. So if it really takes that much time, it’s fine with me.

One issue I noticed:
At the end of Forging the Pact, Trahearne used to (before the personal story changes in the feature pack) have a short, unvoiced (text box) dialogue with you where he discussed what your next assignment would be based upon your greatest fear. That was removed with the feature pack, and it hasn’t been restored in the restoration update. This means that you finish Forging the Pact and then randomly get sent off to your greatest fear arc with no real explanation for why you’re going where you’re going or meeting with who you’re meeting. Just one thing I thought Bobby and co might be able to take a look at.
here’s some of my feedback:
battle of claw island: the new VO’s for trahearne are much better. no longer does he refer to the fortress as Clawr Island or Claw Righland.
i haven’t played all the new VO’d story instances, but i presume they’re of the same improved quality.
Defense of LA immediately after Battle of Claw Island: seeing the old, pre-Scarlet Lion’s Arch in the story is breathtaking. we’ve asked for this ever since the living world started changing LA. the slight sepia tone hints that this is definitely in the past. this is a very nice touch.
[suggestion] the slight sepia tone could be a toggle effect for all personal story instances, due to the fact that all personal instances take place in the past, according to the time line.
Victory or Death:
~ i luv that i can solo it now, for two reasons. 1) i don’t need to find a group. 2) my character is in all the cut scenes.
~ the first part of the instance still feels epic. collecting the parts for the airship launch, fighting alongside Destiny’s Edge is pretty cool.
~ once the airship takes off, it’s still feels epic due to the view while flying. it’s different enough from the typical ground combat to keep me interested in the instance. (this is nothing new of course, but i think is worth mentioning)
~ and then all of a sudden, we land at the cliffs to kill a champ, and i leave the airship by myself, Destiny’s Edge twiddling their thumbs on the airship while i do all the fighting.
~ i return to the airship and it takes flight again, and before i know it, it’s time to man the turret and shoot down some dragons…. by myself. Destiny’s Edge just stands on the command deck watching me do all the work. there’s no other NPCs on deck at all.
~ once we transfer to the Glory of Tyria, it’s the same thing. Destiny’s Edge and the other NPCs just stand around watching me do all the work.
basically, once i board the airship, the instance no longer feels epic, because the NPCs no longer do anything to help.
[suggestion]
~buff the boss on the cliff and send Destiny’s Edge with me to fight him to maintain the epic feel of the first part of the instance.
~throw a few more mobs on deck during the dragon – airship sequences, but again, make destiny’s edge help me by fighting the mobs while i’m on the cannon.
thank you for your time. and bacon to you for the mostly awesome personal story restoration

Ty for restoring the personal story. I just started playing it after a long wait. It was very sentimental to see the old LA again. I haven’t played much into it yet, got 2 chars at about lvl 30-40 story parts so really looking forward to seeing all the changes/missing story parts. So thank you for your effort. It must have been huge. It’s always easy to get rid of something than restore it and I for one appreciate you’ve listened to the community and put this effort to make tings right, especially with expansion in the wings.
I’m particularly looking forward to Victory or Death in solo mode. Hopefully I’ll survive it lol.
So glad personal story is fixed again ^^ Having so much fun playing through my charachter her worst fear and doing Orr in a logic, chronological order
My mesmer might never turn into a good reliable person, not having done personal fear might only be a small part of it, but still..
Thank you for (finally) fixing it ^^
A couple of things I forgot: the airdrop entry mechanism for a few story steps was removed and replaced with the original instance entry. Also, old L.A. and old Fort Concordia architecture (from 1325 AE) should be seen in Personal Story instances.

Well, at least they added a slot. That is something, now i see that they at least little care of our opinion. Not sure if will pre-purchase, still, but willing to buy it on launch.
To anyone, who thinks this is unlogical – it is not about money and slot. It’s about attitude.
Thanks, Anet, at least for this.

so be grateful and get HYPED for HoT!
How about I use common sense and remain cautious of any purchase? Going “ZOMG get Hyped” leads to impulse buying and wasteful spending.

Congratulations to those that have attained victory.
I don’t want to say “riot for everything ever”, or something like that. But you should definitely always try to get the best bang for your buck, even if you have to make some racket to get a company to pay attention. Never assume that them getting your money is a done deal if you ever feel some hesitation about the product you are purchasing.

THANK YOU FOR THE RESPONSE!!!
1 Character slot isn’t what I wanted… But I find it acceptable. Thank you for listening. Ultimate will be purchased shortly.
Can a red shirt please post a link to it here for easy findings, just in case other people look here and not on the main site?
“In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.”
I would like to see this part ammended, "… For one single purchase price for newcomers. As well as some sort of additional perk/bonus for existing players. "
EDIT: speeling… I was too excited!
now i hope you will give something more to ppl who bought the most expensive version of expansion, for be FAIR WITH ALL not only for one kind of proposal….
I see..another drama incoming. Too bad you already preordered so in fact you was fine the way it was done. I dont’see reason a reason why it should bother you in this case.
They could have avoided a lot of trouble had they just done this from the start.
I think the new option for veterans is fair. There’s no reason they couldn’t have provided that choice from the beginning though.
The only criticism I might add is that they could have given the option between a new character slot of the equivalent in gems. Not everyone will need the extra character slot, and it gives more flexibility depending on the player.
(edited by Amroth.2170)
yes thank you gaile for bringing that to our attention. this is what i felt was right
See nothing to panic over. They’re always listening even if it doesn’t seem like it
There was a big thread way before they announced the prepurchase asking for a slot to be included with the expansion. It wasn’t until after everything blew up(including massively, pc gamer etc) that they went back on it.
I’m not convinced they would have changed this if the freakout wasn’t as large. Even the worst companies know a thing or two about damage control.
Not a complaint, necessarily, but for those who bought Deluxe or Ultimate, this is giving us two character slots. I’ve already got 9 slots: one per profession and one key farmer. I liked getting the extra slot with the upper two editions for the Revenant, but another one is not exactly useful for me. Perhaps there could be an option for something else for those of us who picked up Deluxe or Ultimate?
ANGRY VET WINS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s a great way to handle things. Hopefully in the future, the people that make these decisions will see the types of issues that could arise because of said decisions before they happen and address them accordingly. Giving character slots to people when you add a new profession was amazing in GW1 with Factions and Nightfall. The addition of it here with Heart of Thorns is a good trend to continue.
Hopefully this type of communication can continue in the future as well.
I still want to know exactly what I am getting before I open my wallet though.
- How many zones are there?
- How much content is here when compared with GW2’s base game?
- How much future content will require Heart of Thorns?
So many more questions, but that is a good start. A good start at open communication.

The character slot does nothing for me personally, I’ve not seen or heard anthing to suggest to me that HoT is worth the money.

Just chiming in to say thanks for taking our opinions into consideration.
Personally, I know I’m not entitled to anything here, but it’s nice to know that concerns like these don’t fall on deaf ears.

Now what they have to do is actually give more info on HoT since we really don’t know much yet other than specs [and we STILL don’t know them all], Revenant [we don’t know his own elite either] and that one area of the beta.

Well that’s an improvement, Good job A-net
It addresses most of the concerns, I still feel 75 euro to be too high for deluxe but may buy it anyway.
I’m glad they clarified that business model it’s an important point. I hope that when the next expansion comes round the veteran bonuses are cumulative if that’s the model you’re going with in future. (I.e you had original gw2 prior to Jan 2015 +1 , you had HOT prior to the new expansion announcement +1 etc.) to avoid any future PR backlashes.
11x level 80’s 80+ Titles 2600+ skins , still a long way to go.

Also another ploy to get all the prepurchases. That brand spanking new extra character slot goes the way of the dodo once HoT launches, from looking at the text. Its an improvement, but I think it wold be better to be a standard perk of upgrading, whatever the timing of it.
Its an improvement, certainly, but I’m not wholly convinced yet. The cynic in me sees it as a ploy for more prepurchases over people biding their time and waiting.
The kind of people who will set an orphanage on fire after locking themselves inside it.

It’s not a bundle because there’s no option to separate the two. Neither piece has its own individual price, and on top of that, the vast majority of people who would want to pre-order, people who already own the base game, only get the “free” base game if they start a brand new account, and apply the expansion to that account.
And if you do that, start a brand new account, you’re not buying an expansion. You’re buying GW2 v2.0, which happens to have new features collectively knows as “Heart of Thorns”.
People want an expansion, which means a product that “expands” their existing account, and get as good a deal as people buying GW2 v2.0.
That’s gotta be the best way of explaining it that I’ve seen since the announcement.

There’s another angle to look at the ANet offer. Veterans get more from HOT because they are given a choice – get a new account with HOT or continue on their existent account with HOT. New players does not have that choice. So veterans actually get the better end of that deal.
What ?
If I have to throw away everything I’ve worked for so far in GW2 at each expansion, I really can’t see how it is beneficial to me.

So have they responded to this buzz yet or can we just label this concern and the veteran players dust under the rug?
“Dust in the wind… all we are is dust in the wind…”
Not sure how many here are old enough to remember that song, tho.
Carry on wayward son…………………….
One of my all-time favorite classic rock songs.
Leftoverture is one of the great classic rock albums, period.
“You’re my boy, Blue!!!”
(kind of sad, most youngsters would remember it from that….)
Back on topic, I don’t want to be too kitten the Devs here as I’m SURE many of them would like to respond on this issue (tho I’m not sure how they would do so or what they could say to defend it), but also want to keep their job.
I’m quite confident this was a (horrible, IMO) decision made way up the food chain and those Anet employees that truly care about this game have been gagged.

Lets not forget the network effect of having new players. There is value in a large player base that benefits players. If you consider the fact that the free core game is in order to facilite new players, it is a kind of win-win. That being said, I am quite surprized that the expansion doesn’t by default give a few, not just one, character slots. Not very good IMO.
If they really wanted to expand their player base, why not let veterans have free core game copies, too? As a veteran, I would happily hand off my “free” copy of the core game to a friend who was considering the game.
As it stands, however, I would tell him either to wait and see how this issue shakes out, or to look for another game.
“Dust in the wind… all we are is dust in the wind…”

Plenty of us, I think.
Also, I appreciate your voice of reason here and your ability to make your points in clearly legible text. Thank you.
I can think of at least three people I could hand off a free copy of the base game to without even having to think very hard. If they want new players, they shouldn’t kitten off the best advertisers they have… existing players!
And I thank you for your kind words.
