Not sure they figured the rewards were going to zero people out. Their intentions were pure even if they missed the target. Not sure why people take it personal.
People having been spending money and waiting for some content since they cancelled living story, and now the first they get is this. Of course they are taking it personal
Not sure they figured the rewards were going to zero people out. Their intentions were pure even if they missed the target. Not sure why people take it personal.
Maybe because they stayed loyal to the game through a 10 month content drought, paid $50 for a vastly overpriced expansion, got excited for a hyped up event, and then got delivered a pile of…..
I think it is pretty understandable why people are angry.
Mordrem Invasion Update:
- Those who earned rewards and did not receive them will be given their rewards. This could take several days, so please allow time this to happen.
I hope the NPC that exchanges the blooms will still be there after those “several days”
The grouping up of the personal story has resulted in it not being in tune with the dungeon story, Eir sais she has an idea to fix destiny’s edge at lvl 40 in the personal, while you help her fix that idea at lvl 30.
In my opinion, the whole personal story is too easy. Boss encounters get devalued a lot because you can just press your auto attack key and the foe is dead within seconds. The old system where story missions were gapped by 1 or 2 levels was much better. Not only you could challenge yourself by entering a mission while being slightly underleveled, but it also offered continuity to the plot.
As an introduction post to ‘break the ice’, if anyone is unable to purchase a current, giftable sale item on the gem store, feel free to make mention of it here!
Whether due to a lack of funds, or an inability to log into the game during the sale period for an item, perhaps there are people who would gladly help you to acquire the item(s) you desire.
I know that I will certainly be keeping an eye on this thread.

“Ads by DNS Unlocker” (as you can see at the bottom of the pop-up) is adware that your computer is infected with.
If it was installed as part of bundled software that you intentionally installed, though didn’t realize it would install this additional adware, then it should be listed in your add/remove programs software list where you can uninstall it. If it was installed maliciously as part of a virus, spyware or malware infection, you’ll need to clean your computer more thoroughly than simply uninstalling it.
Immediately clean your computer!
- First check if “DNS Unlocker” has an uninstall listing in your computer’s add/remove programs list. If so, proceed to uninstall it.
Further cleaning that is recommended:
- Check your web browser(s) for any installed extensions that are adware, like DNS Unlocker is, and remove the extension(s) from your web browser(s)
- Run a full scan with your anti-virus program
- Download, install and run an AdWare removal program, such as AdwCleaner, AdAware, SpyBot
- Follow that up with downloading, installing and running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Usually, if one virus has found its way onto your computer, there are sure to be more. Depending on what viruses or malware are found, after cleaning your computer thoroughly, you may want to change your passwords for your email and various login accounts. Do not change them prior to cleaning or your new passwords will likely be compromised and you would need to do it all over again.

Why not guild siege golems? I mean really, what is the reason?
You can store guild catas in the inventory but not golems… You should never loose anything by making a mistake. I remember I took out a golem once and I could only build it or drop it. Didnt even need one lol. Had to run to the nearest camp with it in hands (and then a 50 man zerg rolled over me 20 meters outside).
Could at least make it so that if you cancel a guild golem, its returned to the guild…
I’m like how quickly a concern with f2p accounts getting exploited got fixed. This mean ArenaNet is keeping a close eye on things and will keep f2p accounts form causing to much harm.

Yes, thank you for both acknowledging the issue and letting us know you’re on it. (I realize that’s not always possible, so I’m doubly appreciative when you guys manage to get time to do so.)
Oh NPE, why must you even exist.
That pain of how I hate this game, and how much I adore my characters.
(edited by Traced.3495)
Where I see the most complaints about NPE: Veteran players rolling alts. Or Veteran players who get their friends to play.
In reality, new players have no idea what it was like before, so they have nothing to compare it to, unless while they play they have a “friend” constantly saying “OMG you can’t use PvP button?!!?! Laaame! OMG you can’t enter WvW with B?!! You used to! Wow Anet ruined this game I’m so sorry!!”
Possibly. The new players also may be like “OK, so I finished the intro… Bah, why am I just spamming my 1 skill over and over again just like every other MMO out there? I thought GW2 was supposed to be different, but OK, maybe it’ll get better later…”
“Well, I’m in the world now… Wait, where do I continue that story in the intro? It’s gone!” asks around “Oh, I have to wait 10 levels to do it? Lame!”
“OK, it’s telling me that I should do these hearts now… what? I just dance on this farm and the fires go out and cows get fed? That’s so stupid!” a few hearts later “Doing so many hearts like that is just boring! Where’s the large, interactive environment I heard about before? And the underwater combat? Everything I try to do, it says that I’m too low level. When I looked into this game before I got it, it was all about having this ‘big, open world to explore,’ ‘choosing my own adventure,’ ‘play how you want, whenever you want,’ ‘your actions have a lasting effect on the world around you,’ etc. Instead, GW2 is just this generic, grindy, level-gating, spam 1-2 attacks MMO just like everything else on the market. What utter BS. Guess I really won’t be playing this anymore.”
Just because new players don’t have people “poisoning” their experience doesn’t mean they’ll be like “OMFG GW2 IS THE BEST GAME EVAR!!!!”
Our guild recruits new players pretty regularly. I’ve never heard one of them complain about the NPE. To them, that’s the game, and they enjoy playing GW2.
Meh, you can use anecdotal evidence to “prove” anything. I could say “75% people in my guild left because they were disgusted by the NPE, and most new recruits who join barely play because of it” and it would be just as valid as your statement.
Sure if they knew what it was like before they might have an opinion on whether it is better or worse, but without that knowledge, new players find GW2 to be enjoyable despite the NPE. Which to me means it’s just fine the way it is.
See above. New players not screaming at the top of their lungs “OMFG THIS GAME SUCKS MONKEY BALLS!!! KITTEN YOU, ANET!!!!! I’M QUITTING NOW AND NEVER COMING BACK!!!!!” <> them thinking “Wow GW2 is the best thing in the world!!”
(edited by HandOfKane.5409)
I’m also curious if any of this mountain of concerns is going to be addressed when HoT launches, or are they going to continue pretending that the NPE is universally adored amongst the playerbase like they’ve been doing for the past year.
The thingh is that we didn’t buy only the game but also we contract a service (every mmo is a service) and here is the problem in the moment we bought the game the say to us that the game was b2p but now is a f2p.
I’m not agaist new players but I’m agaist what Anet is doing the things
And your service is still valid, you bought the service to play the game forever without paying again and that’s what you got, that never changed.
But the value of the offer has changed drastically. You pay 60 dollars to go to a show, and as you get there and get seated they announce that because 50% of the seats are empty they are letting everyone else in for free. Outrage will insue for anyone that values money and carefully chooses the things they enjoy enough to invest in. As somone who is physically disabled and has to manage my money carefully I made a very active decision to save the money to pre-purchase gw2 because I love the title and the company despite many of my posts on this forum.
And contrary to popular belief I am in no way shape or form unhappy with that investment, even knowing this would happen (I would be less happy about it) but I would do it again, and pay the 80 bucks up front. Now that being said this does not discount or change the feelings of animosity or distrust built by both the secrecy of this deal, because you know they knew this was going to happen and could have told the community earlier than yknow… the day they did it… nor does it change that I am upset that our consolation prize yielded to me no real value of any sort.
They did provide us with some garbage royal guard skin that looks like something that got downvoted too many times so they couldn’t greenlight the release on the trading post… however to many of us, especially most of us that will never ever use such a horrendously disfigured skin, this feels like a cop out, or at the very least gives veteran players (and this has happened many times before) the idea that we are worth next to nothing. That our continued support and promotion of their game is to them, worth whatever they found in the bottom of the barrell… They couldn’t dare to part with 15% off the expansion? Or even to generate a few in game gems to let us purchase something of actual use? Gems are an unlimited currency, they could have provided consolation compensation and chose not to. This is why most of us hardcore veteran players with 1101 days played are a little bit sour over this whole deal.
Also to many of the people on this forum this anger and unrest is being redirected at the new guys coming into the game because they are easily accessable and it will only cause problems in the future, fracturing those who play for free and those who don’t. You will see free to players getting kicked from parties, us vs them mentality. All because Anet couldn’t part with something other than a skin that looks like a beatleborgs halloween costume to placate a disenfranchised mass of veteran players who have been at the lesser valued end of pretty much every deal since the initial purchase. Veterans are not respected. Anet is a company that as a company is much like a shark, they know about time investment, and they know that as a company they don’t have any need to placate players that already exist because we stand to lose more than they do if we stop. They already have our money. This is the overall idea behind this whole fiasco.
A post or two from the red names and perhaps something of actual value would settle down the veteran players and really help to smooth the transition of these new guys into the game. Personally I am happy to see new players, I am unhappy that I was not given consideration in the method that they chose to aquire them.

All pieces of the original services we contracted by purchasing the copy of the game when it came out. You can’t just go to a resteraunt and eat food there and when you end up with a fly in your soup they offer you nothing in return and they say “Well… you had a waitress… and somone seated you… and they provided water and breadsticks so you should be happy….”
They drastically changed the value of the game without previous notice and gave to veterans little to no consolation for this. That is why there is outrage. If the prize had been even a 15% discount on HOT you wouldn’t have this on the forums… or perhaps 1000 in game gems, something that is not hard for them because they dump gems into the game from pvp tournaments and other promotions…
All of these were options that they did not consider… and as veteran players it is more the lack of thought that makes it the worst. We were there supporting them from the beginning and we receive little to no thanks for it. It is an abrasive situation at minimum.
You did. You got the game three years before anybody picking up a (rather heavily restricted) version for “free.”
If you don’t get that the perceived value of something drops over time outside of a handful of rare exceptions, there’s little further discussion that could be had that would placate you.
This is a cop-out response “OHhh you got 3 years… that is what you get…” cmon man, you know kitten ed well what he meant go apply for Anet support if you are going to peddle that kitten here. 3 years of gameplay was the service we contracted by purchasing the game, as long as it was running and we obeyed the terms of service we were in fact ENTITLED to that.
What he is saying is that he wishes like most of us, that Anet provided some sort of decent “consolation” for having to pay 120 dollars for being essentially a “founder”
Welcome all new players.
I hope you all like GW2 and will stay <3

I admit, I felt a bit like a curmudgeonly old guy when I first read about the F2P announcement (“WHAT?! We’re gonna get botters and gold sellers and stupid kids who don’t know their maces from their faces and charge right into that ettin cave and then, guess who has to go into after them to save them??”), buuuut…
Seeing this thread has reminded me of the days when it was all new. The time I took my first steps out of that inn in Shaemoor, marvelling at the very first tree I chopped, wondering if it was safe for me to go down to the river with all those drakes (it wasn’t…), seeing everybody just get slaughtered by that giant troll near the cow farm (who then went on and started killing all the cows). It was a magical time. And maybe for the new people coming now, it will be too.
So welcome newbies! I hope you enjoy your stay in Tyria.
… No, I will not mail you gold. STOP BEGGING!
I must admit I find myself gravitating to the starter zones to see all the new virtual faces and welcome new players to the game.
While I do have some concerns about the details, I think this was a timely and well-considered move by ArenaNet, and I’m thrilled to see so many new people join this awesome community.
Here’s looking forward to plenty of good times ahead.

supressed so bad on welcome messages ^.^
Helped some awsome people today so far. got a few guildies at the norn area and a fun box!
This is so nice and welcoming, I’ve never seen a game where people do this.
created a new charr ele (although I main a charr ele already) to level up with the new folks and make my new character raid ready as well…so a new endgame goal for now. Welcome to Tyria & for Iron legion!
Well i helped plenty of f2p players since morning today. I haven’t experienced any troll activity or gold sellers. So the devil is not that bad like some described (me included).
Yes i was worried yesterday and on friday when ign failed to hide the secret, but after learning the restrictions and first few hours of experience i am now sure that in the long run, this decision will be positive for us players and arena net.
We get more players and arena get more potential customers. Even 3 of my real life friends declared that they will try the game now, finally after 3 years. They refused to buy the game before trying it out (they missed out trial weekends due to work). So now they can play during week without rushing and eventually they will buy HoT and play with me. It is win/win for me and ArenaNet
Also the response from community INGAME is outstanding, vets welcoming new f2p players, a lot of info on /map chat about the game from veteran players describing the game mechanics etc. . No doubt GW2 has one of the best communities INGAME (i don’t count forums
). I have never experienced any of that in any other game after transition from p2p/b2p to f2p (well GW2 is not fully changing to fp2, but You know what i mean).
It is warming my heart and i am glad, that i am a part of that communty. You rock ppl.
I for one, hope you enjoy your time, and maybe even stay.
A very nice welcome to the new players OP. I spent some time in beginner maps too today to see whats going on. The folks I chatted with were nice and appreciative of assistance.
I think how this all works out in part may be our being accepting of them as fellow players who just want to have fun.
