Been working on this since it happened. Don’t worry folks.
I have had many bugs on this boss that have cost me hours of time and it is quite frustrating that this fight was even able to be put out to live. It puts Anet in a bad light and should be discussed.
1. The shields don’t work most of the time.
-Why? It says to take cover or to take to the skies. Taking cover will likely make you have to start over due to having to attempt it 3 times throughout the encounter. Why is this implemented when it doesn’t even work? This leaves you with option two which is also littered with bugs.
2. The updrafts work at strange heights and when on the ground are able to be walked or jumped through in some/many instances.
-I understand taking a little bit of damage, but after narrowly dodging a boulder that has an inaccurate hitbox you are far from an updraft while being near the ground and will take as much damage from being close to the ground as you would from taking a boulder hit. And after getting hit by boulders results in the possibility that the updraft may or may not work when you try to use it. Or you can circumvent all of this and just sit on the vine which makes the entire phase worthless.
These are the bugs that have impacted myself the most. I have read on other forums that there are more problems that I haven’t addressed but are likely common knowledge if they are being attended to. I really do not understand how a fight that is this littered with bugs would not be fixed to make it halfway enjoyable. I would really enjoy this ending if I didn’t have to attempt it so many times. Getting frustrated at the very end of this epic story just leaves a sour taste in the mouths of the people who had to go through it. The end of an epic story should not make you be relieved that it is finally over, it should give a sense of accomplishment or wanting for more.
It is really difficult to think positively of how Anet addresses bugs considering this, and that two prerequisites for the first stage of making Dusk, an item that many are pursuing, are both bugged in ways that they shouldn’t be, but that is not the point of this post.
Yeah I received no reward for 100% map completion in Verdant Brink…
I am more then a little bit annoyed.
All of the nerfs to loot were really infuriating for many of us, the 66% reduction in loot from dungeons was also not received well at all, the requirement of buying keys now to unlock loot chest from fractals is another “thing” that has many people angry… but those were decisions made by Anet, forced upon the community and are something we will have to live with, BUT, Anet allowing a bug that denies people the rewards they earn via map completion to continue to effect so many players, with apparently no course of action for these effected players to take in order to get their already earned rewards is a little ridiculous.
I realize they are busy, I realize they just finished up not only the Halloween event, but the launch of the first major, and PAID, expansion.
I know they are working hard to fix major issues and bugs that are causing crashes and severe problems.
I realize it takes time to address each issue as it is brought to their attention.
I am also relatively sure that this “no map completion chest” bug is probably pretty low on the priority list in the grand scheme of things.
I think that an official statement confirming that this is a known issue that will be addressed and remedied, not just for those completing the maps after the fix, but also for those of us that have already completed them and suffered the huge let down of getting robbed of our reward chests, would be warmly welcomed by everyone.
PS: If there already WAS a statement like this, and I missed it, then I apologize and will feel like a dumb-kitten when this is pointed out to me.
Thanks for reading.
1) I like the grace period idea but I see two issues:
- It depends on how far the game kicks me out, as to how long it takes me to get back in. Best case, it bumps me back to the character select screen, getting back in from there in a minute is feasible. If it shuts down the game and I have to fully log in, then there is little chance making it back in one minute. Then of course there is my last two disconnects which forced a reboot, no chance getting back in a minute in that case.
- When you do come back in and the map is full, what que do you want the game to put you into?
If you are at a big boss event, there is a likelyhood that the map will be full. Now if you go into a que for the map that you just left, chances are that when you get back in it will be because the boss is dead and everyone is leaving. I have had this happen with Claw and Teq and there is no chests cause you are not there upon death. Now I guess the game might give you credit for the kill even though you were not there to issue the final blow but then how long does it grant you that? For a certain amount of time after death, or for a certain amount of time after the chest goes away, or for a certain amount of time after the people leave and you get back into the map.
The other option would be to put you back on an active boss map instead, that way at least you have a chance to kill the boss. However it could put you on an active map that has no chance in completing.
Sometimes even the seemingly simple solutions are unfortunately not so simple.
Three years people have been asking for a solution to this problem. I think it’s safe to say nothing is going to be done.
It has plagued us since GW2’s release, I am talking about those random disconnects you get near the end of Tequatl, or as you suddenly find that enemy zerg in WvW, or as Peneloopee intimidates you with “Coo!”. As I am sure many others like myself are becoming rather irritated by these disconnects, I would like to propose an option or two on how Anet could resolve the issue.
Solution #1: The most common that many have suggested here on the forums; allow a 1-minute grace period for players that disconnect. Effectively, this will reserve the disconnected players’ spot on the map for one minute after their moment of disconnect. After that duration is up, the spot is then open to anyone else trying to get into the map.
This solution would be very effective, as these random disconnects are usually a sudden kick from the server which you can immediately log back in to within a short space of time. Therefore, if a 1-minute grace period was in place, the player will experience the sudden horror of a disconnect, but then quickly reboot the game and log back in and safely enter back onto the same map, feeling pleased.
Solution #2: Now this one is far more complex to implement, but the main mechanics are already in place. What I propose is a queue system nearly identical to what we currently have for WvW borderlands, but for regular maps.
So taking an alternative look from solution #1, here the player would disconnect and log back in as fast as they could. Upon logging in, they would then click the ‘Join in X’ from a party member’s portrait, and if the map is full they would be put into a queue for that map.
I am terrible with words, so I have attached two graphics which explains this the best I could visually (of course, no bonus points for pointing out my terrible image editing skills).
The first graphic details the current issue I am raising, and the second is the solution #2 I am giving here.
Thank you all for reading, and hopefully we won’t have to experience the frustration of the random disconnects ever again!
Tl;dr – Take a look at the graphics.
Guys, its the weekend, im pretty sure they are at home, or at least most of them are.
We’re aware of that however, people still can post to show that it is a global issue.
True yes, but there isnt a reason to be rude, which a few posters have been. They know its an issue.
It was near the end of Chapter 7 in the original personal story when I got this bug. I chose “Dishonor my allies” as my worst fear in earlier chapters. So according to the gw2 wiki, I should be getting the following episodes in Chapter 7.
Forging the Pact → Shell Shock → Volcanic Extraction (chosen) / Fixing the Blame → Marshaling the Truth → The Battle of Fort Trinity → Delivering Justice
The last episode should be “Delivering Justice”, but somehow I got “Liberating Apatia” instead. It was super confusing because the storyline should be focusing on a rogue mesmer Syska, but now I am running a totally different side story talking about a heroic Norn fighting kraits. This change also carries on to the early dialogue of the next Chapter.

Yesterday one of my guilds has finished the wood synthesizer. I harvested it while NOT representing the guild. All I got was one snow flake – from using a Winter’s Day axe. No wood at all.
After daily reset I went back and this time DID represent said guild. I could properly harvest the wood and also the (new) ore node.
Not sure if this is a bug or a wanted effect. Many things in the guild hall are on purpose only available to guild members. However, my character did play the tree chopping animation and sounds and I got that snow flake, just no wood. This seems odd. It should either work completely or not at all.
AFAIK additional material drops coming from the guild hall nodes are required for the hall specific new guild weapons and IIRC it was said in a PoI or GC that one can harvest the other material in a friend’s guild hall. Following this it shouldn’t even be needed to be IN that guild, much less representing it.
Hi, i would let you know that sudden changes in lights are a stimulating factor in predispose people to experience an Epilepsy attack.
I invite you to make the changing in light smoother before someone can have some problem.
Do not undervalue the problem because 16.5 per 1,000 people reported that they had epilepsy at some point in their life.
How about this:
ANet, do away with the NPE, apologize, and promise that you won’t do that again, and I will buy the expansion at full retail from y’all directly. Until then, I don’t plan on playing anymore. Even WoW is more fun than this NPE thing y’all got going.
You took away the fun. You took all of it away. I’m going back to Eve online.
I wonder if Anet even realizes that a very large portion of their playerbase is not only unimpressed, but pretty kitten ed unhappy with the expansion.
Those Hero Points in Heart of Thorns are utterly bad.
5min for killing a champ solo which not only hit like a truck, also CC and heals up or stealth.
100% Hero Point in World Completion pre-hot made it like ~50% of Elite spec, and now it’s gonna take few days till finish it up for solo players, because they need to group up for those stuff.
Hero Points where NPC standing to it says “You’re not worthy” and implies that you should come later when you prolly get better masteries – rofl.
Anet, you were told many times – don’t use NCSoft cards.
Yet just like always you never listen to customers.
People are choking with this system and you believe people have fun – so you’ll state it in the end as well.
Instead of locking us out this way from Elite Specialization, you should rather focus on making more masteries for wider content.
Why not making Masteries for PvP players who are ranked 80?
Such that give access to various NPCs with various good etc?
Why not making a special Masteries for WvW?
Like buffing surrounding ally NPCs – like Dolly Event etc.
Well, congratulations on implementing NCSoft Grind thing that Koreans love so much.
I’m sure muricans and Europeans love it.
I am not buying it at the moment because from my own research the expac doesn’t seem very solo/casual play friendly right now. That plus not getting a character slot for the new profession makes it a no-go for me.
Yeah I’m on that page. Put a few hours in on my girlfriends account and decided to hold off based on my first impression and wait for a sale and a few patches to drop and see what they may change or address for more solo-minded players like me. In saying she has a far larger in-game social network than me so she’s having a blast. I deal with people all day at work so I’m more reclusive in my play-style and prefer games that cater to this as it’s what I find more relaxing and enjoyable.
My local game shop always has cheap MMO’s a month or two after release, they always seem to over-purchase copies, and I’d rather decide then than invest time and full price now for a second copy. Besides I’m fine with core for now and Fallout 4 will be taking up most of my time. No need to pay that much when I won’t even have the time to play it anyway.
I’m also really gutted they restricted the veteran character slot to pre-purchase. Hope they change this, pretty insulting they used it as merely more pre-purchase bait and left those playing since launch that didn’t want to purchase before release with nada. I have no issue with pre-purchase incentivisation but this was handled pretty poorly imo.
Some love it and some hate it. No one can decide but you if you like it. Watch some youtube videos of some people from both sides of the coin to see whats there and what they say. It may help you.
EDIT: I do have it. I bought the Ultimate version for $100. I am having a blast with it. I knew going in that there would be unlocking of WPs, HPs and MPs.
someone in map chat just asked how he activates his mentor tag.
What a mentor that is….
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Well at least you can change colors with the com tag right? :P
But yeah. Mentor tag is turning into another glorified “hey look at me”. Out of all I have seen only 1 was activity mentoring.

re: Mentor Tags should only work in Starter/low level areas – I’ve seen people that need mentoring in higher level areas, even in Orr.
They should have never made it a visible cheap commander tag, it’s just a lot of visual noise as everyone and their mother is running around with it now.
Mentor should be a UI screen. Flag yourself, ticking boxes what you can help with. Others can search for those categories. If they contact you, then after that they see you with a tag. But only they do. To highlight you in the world for them.
+1 on the Mentor Abuse function for reporting. New players may actually mistake Mentor Tagged players for GM’s, and be more likely to believe anything they say. (however improbable)
re: “They’re like a free Commander Tag, it isn’t fair.”, etc… – If all you want is bling that lets you bee seen from space, then yes they serve the same function. But neither of these are really intended to be a vanity tag. And they are absolutely not the same at all.
The Mentor tag puts an icon over the player’s head, and an icon visible on the map for all players to see. And it adds a [Mentor] tag before your name in chat. And that’s all it does. The intent is for it to show players “Here is someone who is willing to help you. Someone who is knowledgeable and trustworthy.”(Though like someone showing a Commander Tag, there is no guarantee they are actually competent or trustworthy.) The Mentor Tag does not give a special chat channel, the ability to form a squad, special map markers, visible map drawing or ping, etc… All it gives you is an overhead tag, a map tag, and a chat tag.
And you don’t need a Commander Tag to command a group, or a Mentor Tag to mentor new players. If you know what you’re doing, you can do both those things without a tag. It’s a nice aid, but not necessary. If you don’t know what you’re doing, neither of those things will give you any ability – they’ll just be bling that lets you be seen from space.
I bought a commander tag at the 100 gold + 250 Badges of Honor price, and I don’t regret it. I use it pretty much exclusively for organizing PvE events and Champ zergs.(I only really play PvE.) I use the Mentor Tag when I’m helping new players. Each has their own use. Would I still have purchased a Commander Tag if I knew that Mentor Tags were coming? I think so. Do I feel ripped off? Not really.
There is practically no use in squad chat in pve,as every activity ( maybe aside from triple trouble) requires no more than one tag. So map chat is all you need.
Mentors get chat title for free, coms don’t even get one.
You completely missed my point. Having a mentor systen isn’t the issue. It’s the sheer ease on actually getting it. Free + 30 minutes of events and you’re done. Therefor as a pve player getting a tag is utterly pointless since the mentor tag fills everyneed i had for tag.
And like it or not, bragging rights do exist. There is no justified reason to give the FREE tag better design(bigger scale, nicer tag, chat title)
Maybe in cities and zones up to lvl 40?
That could work. If the point is mentor, above 20, you kind of should have a really good grasp of the basic game.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Have to admit would prefer the mentor tags had more of a limited range of visibility to keep them distinct from the existing comm tags. Understand the different symbols but this should be a much more scaled down version. Example maybe its only usable in starting zones or only appears on the mini-map.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Battelle nailed it.
Indeed he did.
Only thing I would add is we need a Mentor Abuse report function.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
I can foresee a few things happening with these tags.
1. Trolls will troll, and they will be rendered pointless once trolling is associated with them rather than mentoring.
2. The skritt factor will wear off quickly, either because everyone will have one (so no ~prestige~ factor), or because people will expect them to actually mentor, and they’ll get sick of being pestered/flamed for being terrible.
3. Eventually, only the people who actually want to mentor will mentor, or those who want to lead a train/zerg in the absence of anyone with a commander tag.
Commander tags will always take precedent over mentor tags to those that know better, leaving starter maps and the aforementioned zergs the only place where mentor tags will be an issue (either for good or for bad). I do agree that Commanders should get a special tag in chat.
Ultimately, however, I do think the mentor badge should have been the final reward in that mastery line, and not the first one. That way, it’s less accessible for early flaunting purposes, and requires more grinding/sacrifice for those who want to use it to troll. Personally, I think it could be an overall beneficial thing for the community, and allow players who want to fill a specific niche (answering questions, helping other players who call out on the map, one-off kind of stuff) to do so without stepping all over commanders (who tend to focus more on organizing coordinated events).
The mentor tags themselves aren’t the issue. The issue is them being more appealing than the com tag.Better design, bigger size and chat title. Making it pointless to have a com tag outside of wvw. I can lead events just as-well with mentor tag which is free and easy to get. Making all the players who got a com tag for pve feel ripped off.

On the mini map the mentor tag is bigger and better designed,so if i was a new player and didnt know better id follow the mentor and not the com
So it works exactly like it is designed to.
So it was designed to kitten over any com outside of WVW? Seems pretty fair.
No, but I suppose it was designed to attract new players who do not know any better yet.
And in turn kittening over any player that bought a tag for PVE purposes.
I personally think that a full account suspension is simply rediculous.
They already revoke the expansion as soon as this happens, I really don’t understand the need for an account suspension.
If they would simply revoke the expansion, dispatch an email saying: Dear player, you applied a fraudulent CD Key for Heart of Thorns. We have removed access to the expansion from your account and suggest you get a full refund from your 3rd party retailer and repurchase the expansion through our official shop on guildwars2.com.
This would simply allow us to repurchase it and be done with it. Having to go through all this hassle with Support pretty much already killed my weekend which I planned free to enjoy the expansion.
