Personally I think it would make more sense – and be more intuitive – if you indeed would have to play each arc separately, for each character that made a different selection. Whether it’s because you have different race, or different order, or have otherwise a different background option. That way your story would always remain /your/ story, and you could still ‘guest’ in someone else’s story if you wanted to play the instances together. I imagine for the most people if they distinctly select one path over another, it indicates that this is the storyline they wish to experience. If at some point they indicate that they wish to accept progress, and that progress would lead them to branch that differs from what they had clearly selected earlier, I would imagine it’s often/usually by mistake, e.g. because they don’t understand the full consequence of that action. Perhaps – at the least – a clearer warning indicating that this will prevent them from experiencing their own, selected storyline, would help.
This is so completely dumb and ticks me off. I am playing through my first char with my friends. I really wanted to do priory so that is what I picked. I wanted to join my friends for Vigil quests so I joined them. I was told the first quest was the same for everyone which it is. This gave no kitten warning that it would switch me to Vigil. This is beyond stupid. I understand to allow it to prevent people from having to do it for every friend. However I wanted to do this I shouldn’t have to look up on the kitten website on some obscure post hidden away in the depths of no where that is almost a year old to find about this. To find out i’m screwed now and stuck and forced to do a quest line for my character I never wanted to do. First I find out I can’t get my GW1 stuff, now this. I wonder what ridiculous thing is next?
Bumping this. It’s a serious bug, and with the reorganization of the story steps after the living world content, surely this can be fixed? I can’t complete certain achievements this way either, such as To Know the Unknown for the story step An Apple A Day. This bug isn’t okay.
I understand your feelings, Siren. I can’t imagine that this is a complex fix. It surely can’t be more than just a few zeroes and ones in code. I’d be more than happy having a few story steps deleted, even; hell, make me do the whole kitten ed thing over again, if need be.
But I really don’t want to play the character now.. Makes me not want to play at all, in fact. The one aspect of GW2 that rises above other MMOs IS the story, and now I don’t even get what I wanted out of that.
This just happened to me. And I have to say I am not pleased with this feature at all. And judging by other forums and stuff, it has messed up a lot of other people’s stories.
I am in OOW and play with my boyfriend who is a DP, I must’ve accidentally hit the accept progression during the quest “Setting the Stage.” So now instead of being in the OOW “Stealing Secrets.” I have to do the DP “Dredging the Past.”
I found a player who is going OOW and is just about to enter the “Setting the Stage” quest. And I really hope that doing that, or starting his “Stealing Secrets.” quest, will fix this mistake of a feature, leaving me ever the wiser of what silly functions of this game to be ever vigilant about.
If not, it means I have to watch a Let’s Play on Stealing Secrets and hope that my level 50 story arc will go back on track, which is a shame cause I would have very much liked to witness it myself!!
Thanks much for the responses Pat Cavit!
Clarity is always nice, and I can also confirm that the TP is functioning a lot smoother right now than it was for the past few months.
Easier to fix than expected, these should be good now. Fixes may take a few minutes to show up.

Ugh, sorry this slipped through. Working on this now.
As an update, this issue was fixed today when the laggy TP UI fix was implemented.
Thank you very much!

The scroll position changing may or may not be fixable, there’s a not-particularly-interesting-but-deeply-technical reason why that is happening. We’ve mitigated it as much as we could in the short term in order to prioritize getting the TP UI fast again. We’ll swing back around and take another stab at it now that the bulk of the optimization work is sorted.
I am very glad to see the several other fixes to the TP today, but one new bug I noticed is that the “Bought” and “Sold” designation in the “My Recent Trades” section no longer displays – it only shows the item.
Is anyone else experiencing this bought/sold element missing or do some people still see it?
I’ll run a cache cleaning in a bit to see if it is a local problem unless others mention they, too, are missing this element.

Nice catch, not sure where those bits wandered off too. We’re investigating.

Hooray for fixing issues we caused! XD
Glad it’s working better for you now.
Glad you noticed, sorry it took a bit. We’ve been heads-down on HOT stuff and finally got some space to go spelunking into the changes since v2.0 shipped to figure out what had happened.
Thank you VERY much for fixing this!
Indeed, noticed last night that suddenly it became lightning fast and still was in the morning now that I checked it.
I have no idea what they did, but it is working and I really hope it stays this way
The TP UI really is back to its normal, speedy self!
Thank you for tackling this issue! I’m overjoyed to be able to interact with it at a normal pace once again!
I believe I see that you have opted for the background listing screen to hide temporarily when a pop up is being displayed instead of the pop up overlaying on top of it. Perhaps this is what was causing the issue, some kind of layered animation and updating bogging down the animation and interaction with the pop ups.
Thank you for this corrective change.

Does no one at the animation department want to take a look into this? It’s not, like you have to invent a new animation in order to fix this.
I have to agree. I could not get to one specific platform with Lightening Pull and tried it almost 10 times. As I was standing on a platform with a Lightning Tethers I had no other option. I was on that platform as number 3, but got out of time because of this bug.
I have done Sanctum Spring at least 80 times and I never had this issue. I have no intention of doing Sanctum Sprint again until this bug is fixed. If it is part of the daily I will just run around at the start until the timer is over.
This is still happening.
Even with a ping well under 100ms, Santum Spring races are nothing but an exercise of frustration lately. Rather than ’who’s faster’ is about who can jump more times without being screwed by the skills.
If these jumps can’t be fixed in some way, those preset lightning jumps to Lightning Tethers should at least be replaced by something else until it can be fixed. For example, direct teleports using Lightning Flash’s animation and visuals to still fit the theme, with a longer casting so it takes the same time and it can still be interrupted.
I actually wouldn’t mind the event, but the ONLY way I can get the most out of it, is that I have to tag and go on as many events as possible in order for me to get the maximum out of it. If I could stay and complete the events, I’d be happy to, but it forces me to hit and run, which I hate doing.
Events like these should rely on team/map contribution, rather than individual contribution. Everybody does their part in order to get the most rewards. Granted some people will come, do the minimal and afk, but I feel that is better than forcing me to run around, waypoint to every possible waypoint on the map, and get bronze in every event possible just to get 1/7th more reward.
First thing that i would do is to reduce the event time from 30 min to 20 min, and instead of having individual stacks like we got now, i would add a “Map Stack” this would calculate all events we finish during that 20 minutes. Rewards would be equal to all, teamwork would be rewarded once again.
Rewards would be the following
10 events completed by map = 10 blossoms
20 events completed by map = 15 blossoms
30 events completed by map = 20 blossoms
40 events completed by map = 25 blossoms
50 events completed by map = 35 blossomsUsually you average 35-40 events on 30 minutes. This would add a bit of a challenge, cooperation between commanders and the “taggers” atm would have to finish the random events they port to just to contribute
This. Oh my goodness this. Definitely seconding what Arahzor is saying here. I love it!
I’m a new player (pre-bought HoT about a month ago), and have been playing quite a lot.
I’ve got a character to 80, and a couple to 50 or so.
I don’t mind the new events, but I’m not really interested in them. They’re not challenging in the least, it’s just running and/or warping from one instance to another. Once you understand them, there’s no real challenge.
Like I said, I’m a new player. I’m much more interested and involved with event chains, and enjoy them more. I’ve not even tried a dungeon yet (save Arah story)
Mordrem invasion just feels like whack a mole over a few different areas of Kryta. I’ll do each once a day to get the 20, but I don’t see myself doing more than that.
I am definitely enjoying GW2 so far, but this event has been a little uninspiring.

Thanks to all of you who are posting solid, substantial feedback or even just a few thoughts on the subject. The thing I particularly like is that you’re sharing constructive ideas and suggestions that the team can use in the future to offer improved events.
Thanks, and please continue to share if you have other ideas!

Main issues my guild discussed:
- The event is not enticing at all to new players – to whom this event was supposedly aimed at. No exp earned for kills/events, no money earned…. in fact, you LOSE money WPing around the map, and the rewards you can get with the blooms cost even MORE money – more money than and new player can scrounge up. It’s sad that basic dynamic map events are more rewarding than this event for new players.
- Rewarding selfishness – along with new players, this event was advertised for guilds to recruit and team build. However, the only way to get the best rewards is to run around being unhelpful, tagging things and leaving. This made it impossible for my guild to play together and have fun, let alone think about recruiting during this madness.
- Unfun grind. I am no stranger to grinding – I actually love events like Silverwastes and the Queen’s Gauntlet. THOSE events, however, give lots of different incentives to participate. Exp, gold, drops, etc. This event lacks everything that could make grinding worth it.
Basically, this event rubbed everyone in my guild the wrong way, and has caused a lot of salty talk in gchat.
EDIT: Also the lack of achievements made most of my guild not want to return after one try of it, because they already had the skins they wanted from the vendors from when they were available previously. So veterans are bored too.

I rarely come here to post or reply but I just want the devs to know how important it is for us players to not be punished in any way by having a disconnect in the middle of a play session, more importantly if we are going to lose any progress we have made in a said event. If there was a way to “save” that progress for a few minutes so we have the time to log back in, it would be great, and yes I know we can do the next event in 30 minutes but for some 30 min are alot and dont have time for more. One more thing I want to say is that the gameplay in open world events should have people working together and not running selfessly around the map trying to tag as much events as they can. Lastly, one thing I liked is the return of old rewards/skins/items that we can no longer aquire. Would love to see more of that for newer players to get them and for older palyers that didnt have the chance to aquire them the first time.
