Gaile,
What I would like to know, is the following. I’m in Europe, so I will use my timezone (GMT +1). The patch came live at 18:00 here, daily reset is at 01:00. Will a player who has only logged in on the 16th between this timeframe, and today after reset be on day 2 of the rewards?
And are players who logged in before and after the patch on day 1 (like I am because of this).
If so players like me who have logged in before and after 18:00 on the 16th are being punished for playing more, and that seems a bit unfair to me while the whole point of this system is rewarding loyalty. If not, then all is fine by me.
(edited by Dhalis.8297)
Same for me, I usually play past 00:00am GMT, and that happened on 15th →16th, no login when I came on after 4:00 pm later on, I got my 1st chest on 17th at 00:00, and it said I only got the 1st day only. And I know I was on 16th since i got the 11/11 on 16th… and I have a screenshot of the minipet skritt thing I got on 16th. I am also a Day behind by this fact, and am sad because this would have been a nice change since i come on every day. but now I am as I say, a day behind, so people shall get things before the people including myself this was bugged for.
As you can see in my screenshot, I received the 17th day chest, at 00:00, and the calendar shows only day 1 unlocked, HOWEVER I am infact in Tixx’s Infinirarium with 3 friends meaning that I could not base don times get into the area from not loggin on at all, and only logging on at 00:00 to enter the instance and complete it withing 1 minute, it infact took us like an hour to do so.
-The hearts should be quicker to do.
Not sure on this. I feel that some hearts are faster than others, and it adds the feeling of adventuring throughout the world.
-XP should be ideally tripled for everything across the board.
No, can’t agree on this. If something, the jorney should take me to lower level areas after I’ve cleared the current one. The world should be enjoyed.
-Early unlock of skills traits and trait points.
Not so much as full unlock, but the old system where you bought skill books at the level you could use them for traits (skill points and gold)
- personal story is not fun especially when you’ve done it multiple times.
-once the personal story arc converges, it gets even more painful. (its like a bad deja vous)
Personal story is stll fun over your character build and options available until the converging point where it feels boring (poor Zhaitan)
- Kill off Trahearne (ok, I’m kidding on this one……..well kinda)
Might not… be a bad idea…
Yesterday I already logged in before the patch. Patch hit, I update and log in again. No login bonus. A friend of mine only logged in after the patch, and she did get a login bonus…
Is this intended? If so why are people being punnished for loging in before the patch?
Nobody should be on day two, right? I mean, I played last night, logged in after the patch today and did my dailies, and then logged in after the reset today, but it was only after the reset that I got my “day one” login reward. I’d hate to think that I’m permanently behind on the system because of some bug.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
How about you move it from being an “activity” to being a “dungeon” so we can party up with a group and perhaps actually start at the very beginning rather than join an in-progress instance with random people who may or may not be saving dolyaks?
And now I got in one that showed 59 minutes, and then in the next minute 5 out of 6 dolyaks were dead because there were toys filling the center before me and another person managed to even get there.
Seriously, Anet?
while people who did not log in before the patch are at day 2…how is that fair when they’re 1 day ahead? is this a bug or intended ?
Wow. So information goes out through the spanish community manager —> reddit —> a player post so we can hear it on the official english forums.
Nice.
Breathe, go for a walk. Make some tea, then stop presuming you speak for everyone,
Hi,
The forum reorganization broke all forum bookmarks or external links (from reddit for example).
Redirections should have been made to avoid this.
Example : I just clicked one of my bookmarks to a pvp thread -> 404. I opened a new tab to the main page of the forum, clicked my way to another pvp thread and compared URLs. Then I just had to replace “/forum/pvp/pvp” with “/forum/game/pvp” -> no more 404 so the thread has not been deleted and is just missing redirection. Not all players know how URL works so a lot of people will not be able to do the redirection manually.

Eowyn
It’s bad enough that you already can’t do most activities with YOUR friends. But to take something amazing like this, one of the few activities that we could enjoy with our friends. I’m sorry, but this is a TERRIBLE choice for your player base.
I just heard from the team about this, and it is an unfortunate but intended change. The alteration came about because code changes were required in order to stabilize PvP and some Instance Activities. According to one of our lead designers, the change cannot be revisited for this year’s release. Thanks for your understanding concerning this necessary adjustment.
This is a joke right? We can’t play with our own friends and are forced to play with random people who are unreliable and come and go as they please because somebody made a mistake and loaded the wrong version of the code and now they’re unwilling to admit it. “Code changes”? That is the vaguest and most unreasnable response I’ve ever seen.
Year 1 – No parties, major complaints.
Year 2 – Anet acknowledges the problem and fixes it.
Year 3 – Anet says screw you and changes it back without a care in the world.
As time goes on we learn more and more how little anet cares about it’s playerbase.
Count me as another who may “understand” the technical reason for this change but most certainly does not like or encourage it. This event was lots of fun last year, particularly because you could go in with friends. Now this year I’m unable to take new guildies (for whose first Wintersday this is) in to show them the fun because it’s been changed to throw us with randoms.
What I don’t understand is why there is this insistence that things designated as “activities” cannot be done with parties. They are precisely the sort of thing you should want to do with your guild or with friends. Being tossed in with random people who have different motivations and intentions for participating in the activity decreases the fun of the activity. Personally, I will only be participating in Toypocalypse this year to get the needed achievements and nothing more because this change to the activity directly makes it less appealing. From what I’ve seen in guild and map chat so far today I’m not the only one who feels this way, with some even ignoring the activity this year entirely. This is really unfortunate because there are so many other areas where the game does a good job of letting you play with who you want to.
No worries, it’s only another tick on ‘ruined things’ list
Sorry Gaile, I don’t have any understanding for this stupid change. Two years ago there was a lot of complaining about this and now you changed it back. If you had put this in the patch notes I would have had some understanding but not now.
Oh, and you don’t want to know the reaction from my guild mates when I read your post on TeamSpeak
This thread was buried, so I ended up creating another, which I believe I will no longer use, as it disperses the information.
This one being older has quite a lot of interesting views. As most of the things I agree with have already been said, I’m left with asking: where is the feedback from Anet? Where is the correction to this… Problem?
We will not have a new patch from today to January. Are you taking these 30 days as vacation? I’m sure you deserve it, but…
Most of the additions granted (regarding gameplay) are disliked and counterproductive for new and old players alike.
As I said on my thread (and others have also suggested), an option at character creation (or during gameplay, if you fancy) asking me if I wanted the dumbed down version of the game or the usual, friendly and insightful version, would be nice.
I’m guessing you didn’t delete the code for it. I hope you didn’t. Just copy paste it in with an “If” condition. Shouldn’t be too hard. Shouldn’t take too much of your time. We’d very much appreciate it. You could consider it our Wintersday present. And for what I’ve seen, some new players (the people who were supposedly the target of this… experience) who would like to play the game as the older players did.
In this case (and I’m not addressing the issues regarding the story restructuring; though if you’d like another piece of feedback: no. I don’t like being served in large batches, and then starved so the next batch seems yummier; let me have the wonderful game you made 2 years ago) everybody can win.
It looks like this has been recently fixed. Thanks to the Anet dev(s) who solved this issue. It wasn’t a major thing, just an inconvenience. Thanks again.

I’d just like to add this one here, now that the old thread has been archived:
Anyway, i’ve posted a GitHub link to a little greasemonkey script along with a stylesheet in reply to this thread last week which is a temporary fix for the search, using Google’s custom search. However, my post got deleted and i got infracted for it because the moderator thought i posted bad stuff, which clearly wasn’t the case. I hope that’s now sorted out (thanks to Gaile!), so i’ll post it again:
https://gist.github.com/codemasher/654f05a7cdf1c268d404
In order to use this script, you’ll need a google account where you have to create a custom search engine and an API key (links inluded in the script’s comments). For now i assume you know how to use greasemonkey etc. and you know a little Javascript to see that is no malicious stuff at all – i’ll write up some instructions when i got some time on my hands. Enjoy.
There are a few minor bugs and possible enhancements to this script, however, i haven’t had time on my hands to fix it yet. Feel free to use and/or fork it!
I agree on the topic about the forum’s software. I wonder if this (fangamer forum) was so much cheaper than a commercial license of the Invision Power Board (Wildstar forums for example). Why can’t we have nice things?

The Quality Assura nce team is aware of the issue and they are working on a fix.
Of course, because only Asura’s can fix that (couldn’t resist xD)
Hah, clever! I think I might call them that from now on xD
Nevermind, I found out that it was moved into the Looking For section. I feel like guilds should have a category of its own though.

[SNIP] We regret that the search engine is not functioning properly right now…
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the search engine ever worked? If so, when did it stop working? I’m not sure that I recall that it ever worked, but I could be mistaken.
In any case, I’m having a difficult time understanding why exactly the forum search engine would be broken for so long and/or be so difficult to fix. Nearly every forum on the internet has a working search engine; it’s not brand-new cutting-edge technology. Honestly, is ANet doing so poorly financially that it cannot afford to have forum tools that work?
The problem is deep within the technology behind the forum structure itself. Yes, we had a search engine in the beginning, but it was broken by our forum contractor in the course of working on other things. We no longer have a relationship with that contractor or his company, and someone else is not able to step into the system and fix the search engine because (1) our programmers are tasked with other essential work, (2) the forums run on a web framework with which most of our programmers are not familiar and (3) we’re investigating other options for forums and it would not be prudent to pour money into hiring someone to fix this as a short-term solution.
My team agrees that it would be great to share the system that is outlined in the OP, and we’re going to figure out a way to do that. It won’t be as simple as “plumbing” the current search window to go to Google — each of us still will need to input the search manually, but it’s better than the current “poke and prod” to find a particular post!
I have to say this is the problem. Anet’s priority should have been to aquire new and fully funtional forum software as soon as the problems with the maker surfaced. I can only assume the decision not to aquire new forum software was made outside of the games’ division and based only on saving money.

I’m wondering if this is gonna be fixed with the next LS update!
What a joke, its been a week and no answer and no fix for such a vital part of the game. So much for all that communication …
Will this be addressed/fixed at some point? The issue is that when a very large group kills a champ a lot of people don’t get any loot from the kill. I’ve also noticed that I don’t even get credit for the kill at all — i.e. no progress on champ kills, daily kills, etc.
I know the first typical explanation is that you have to do a certain amount of damage. That’s fair but I’ll do enough damage to get the Gold level reward for the event but I still get no loot and no credit for the kill at all. That doesn’t seem logical. I’ve also noticed that when the group is smaller I’ll get kill credit and drops even if I only get a few shots off but in a large group I can wail on the champ for the entire duration of the kill and get absolutely nothing. So I can get loot and kill with less damage and nothing with more damage. With that the whole “you didn’t do enough damage” argument doesn’t seem to hold water at all.
People say join a group. Being in a group seems to help but this still happens to me quite a bit even if I am in a group. This also makes me wonder if I’m losing kill credit/drops because maybe someone else who otherwise might not have gotten credit happened to be in a better group than me.
Yes, it takes a lot of money to have an OP Google search engine embedded into your site. So the above post is a practical work around.
