I am a PvP player. I play this game (mostly PvP) since release in 2012.
@ArenaNet
I hate Heart of Thorns. It’s ugly, it’s dark, it shows lack of imagination. Above above above above, below below below below – seriously: not all players like to spend hours just to get a skill point or a waypoint. As a PvP player, I newly tried to check these new maps (since there is no active PvP season, and PvP is… as it is). Ater 2 hours of struggle in HoT PvE maps, I hate them from all my heart, not because of their complexity in killing creatures, but because of how they are arranged, tunnels, jumpings and paths, all layered one above the other. It’s a whole labyrinth where all information is wrong and even the minimap lies to me.
I hereby promise never to prepurchase any of your expansions from now on (because even beta testing requires me to actually buy it first).
@PvE players
I know you love these maps. Feel free to comment, but please respect my opinion as I respect yours. Be happy and enjoy the content you love.
Respect, with hope for better PvE content to try in future.
Hello. I am looking for a PvP only guild; not PvX, not PvE, not WvW, but PvP only.
I do PvP about 2 hours a day, after 19:00 GMT. However, I can do PvP during the day too, if that is a requirement. Please note: I love PvP, I hate PvE, I rarely play WvW.
I am a casual player, I play since release (September 2012), and I have 4.5k+ games so far (mostly elementalist 4k+).
I like to play for fun, in full teams, with Teamspeak, because communication is key to victory (this an opinion, others may think differently). I do not care about tournaments or leagues, because I personally consider the game too balanced, too perfect, and too difficult for my brain.
If you want to know my Season 1 division: Emerald. If you want farmers players with a higher division, please (I beg you) do not contact me, ever.

Indeed, I think new game modes are an urgent requirement, but not in 2v2 and 3v3 format. This game was never built around 2v2 and 3v3. Look at the concepts, story and huge differences behind each profession to understand what I mean. 2v2 or 3v3 will simply never work, because each profession is completely different and they must combine all those differences in teamwork to have fun and achieve a win (see: combo).
However, for 2v2 and 3v3 ArenaNet gave us a beautiful deathmatch arena called Courtyard. Create a server, activate this map on it, set it for 2v2 and 3v3, then have fun.
I love new things, I love new game modes, I love experimenting, but I do not like changing the whole game, just to make is suitable for 2v2 and 3v3.
As a side note: I would love to see battlegrounds 10v10 (similar to WoW) added here. This would add even more teamwork and more complexity (a huge success in WoW game).
What do you think about a smoking finisher where you would put out the cigarette on enemy, and then step on it with your foot to extinguish it on enemy, finishing the cigarette and the enemy?
And what if I wish to give it away as gift?! The code belongs to me because I bought it, but I can not gift it to someone else because it is on my name… right?
It is a requirement. You can not go to PayPal page without completing your personal information (not just owner name and CC numbers).
To reproduce this:
1. Open http://buy.guildwars2.com/
2. Select a version (for example Standard)
3. Click “Add to Cart”
4. Continue to checkout
5. Continue
6. At this screen it requires personal information where you can not continue without completing your personal information
For the sake of conversation, let’s say I do not know how to buy a game from website. If I wish to buy HoT ingame I get the exact same error, on a different interface. Follow the steps (like on website) and you get the same error when trying to buy HoT with PayPal, even though it’s ingame, from your account, logged in and authenticated.
If nobody believes me (not that I ask to), I provide screenshots attached to this message.
- EDIT *
I already tried with different broweser. I tried Maxthon Nitro (screenshots), Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. It’s official: they ask personal information for a casual game.
(edited by Acrisor.8097)
If I try to pre-purchase HoT (with PayPal), I get this:
“To complete your secure online order, please enter your billing information below. The billing information should be exactly as it appears on your credit card statement.”
If I pre-purchase with PayPal, why do they require my credit card information?
Since when does an online game designed for casual entertainment require my personal information?
In my opinion this is not right…
For me, Halloween event is much more important than HoT event release.
Halloween is fun, rewarding, provides gold and has good offers in gem store.
My personal concern is that most players (if not all) will be in new Maguuma maps, dungeons and raids, while only few people will enjoy the actual Halloween event.
I know others think differently, but I enjoy Halloween event in GW2, even though I have no connection whatsoever with Halloween as american holiday.
You don’t kill an ele. You should never try that.
You just sit tight, hoping they do not see you, waiting for a whole game rebalance after 3 years (like the last 3 years).
I do not want SoloQ. Interesting subject, but this game needs more people combined in teams, communicating, building tactics, improving combos, and exchanging ideas in real time, not just going in PvP solo while listening to music acting all alone thinking you are the best.
One can predict the future by looking at the past.
3 years of PvP have passed. We can very easy see what balance will be like in future.
In the end nobody forces us to consume this product.
I do not understand why they did not put Royal Terrace Pass too. It does the same thing, but on a different location.
Anyway, it’s not my decision to make
That’s officially a wrap I think. No bunny ears, but I can’t complain. :P
Of course no bunny ears! What did you think? That ANet loves money?
Actually, I am happy that ArenaNet does not love money. They are not greedy, and I like that. People with Bunny Ears and items unobtainable can feel special and unique more time. Indeed, seeing old items being brought back to life would have been great; but respecting old players who got them and kept them is awesome because it provides uniqueness to old players.
I do not have Bunny Ears, nor do I want this item. But I respect old players who have it.
Experienced a game crash near the end of the event in Diessa, and now I have nothing to show for the last 30 minutes of my life. Wonderful.
You have yourself to show. Nice meeting you. I am glad you are happy.
They could drop the price for Blooms with 90% of current value (example: 45 Blooms for 1 Potion). That would make all players happy (including casuals) because they can get what they want with just one daily.
Think about it ArenaNet. The rewards were the biggest problem, so drop the prices on event’s currency, and you shall get happy customers that will forget bad elements of this event.
(edited by Acrisor.8097)
ArenaNet should start thinking about casual players. There was no event for 7 months and now they release a short event with very low drop rate where a good reward costs 450 tokens.
A casual player with ~2hours/day has no chance to get at least a top reward in this event. And above this, producer expects me to buy their expansion on my every account. It is interesting the way they think at it.
You’re expected to play 48 hours a day for the whole event, it’s not like people need to work, eat, or sleep right?
If you want rewards, you have to work for them.
One of the best rewards for this event is this item
I’m out. I don’t care if they’re giving a million blooms once they fix this. I’m done running around being too late to get event credit most of the time. Games are supposed to entertain, not frustrate.
I just can not give enough +1 to this post. These are my thoughts too.

Some pople got rewards, some did not. I did not get rewards, probably because I did not buy HoT yet.
Let’s be realistic here. Many people bought HoT Ultimate package. All those players got 4K gems. To spend them they had to be lured into it with offers. This sale with “not so loved stuff” was for them, to spend those gems from expansion, and later on start buying gems with real money.
They hit 2 targets with one blow (or Anniversary Sale): most new players and Ultimate HoT buyers with 4K gems on the line got broke but happy, and most veteran players with lots of gold spent some gold to not miss the offers (while gold-gem conversion got more balanced). As a side note, they dropped electro dyes price from the 1K mark with gifts and offers during this time.
It’s pointless to argue if we are happy or not. We are happy, otherwise we would not be playing this game or talking on it’s forums. New players are also happy, because with 100$ they exit from free account limits, while getting core-game, expansion, extra deluxe bonuses, plus 4K gems they were very tempted to use in an Anniversary Sale. We are all happy, otherwise we would not be here reading these lines.
<troll>
Thank you ArenaNet. For 2 years I wanted so much to buy Permanent Whump the Giant Finisher, but I simply could not buy it. Now it’s on -90% offer during Anniversary Sale. In those great moments I simply can not thank you enough for thinking at me and my wishes. I feel like a very valued customer right now at the end of those awesome offers. Thank you.

We will see what tomorow brings. Perhaps hope will not die tomorow.
It’s simple. Buy a dye because you like it or love it, don’t buy it because someone else tells you it’s worth 1K gold. Prices on AH vary not because of how good or how loved a dye is, but because it is rare. If a dye is rare, it does not mean you have to like it. Choose what you like, not what someone else likes, because it’s your account and your time having fun.
Well, I waited for Royal Terrace Pass and Captains Airship Pass with no result. Three days left and I am still hoping.
In the country where I live, game testers are usually paid for their work. In this game most testers like to do it not by receiving money, but by giving money (prepurchase); and whover does not like it (did not prepurchase) is forced to play with those testers. And if like this was not enough, the testers consider themselves the best when they defeat non-testers in PvP or WvW. It’s just awesome.
My advice for all the players is to do like I do: stop playing during beta weekends! You are spending your time and your resources to provide feedback, while receiving nothing in return, but frustration. During beta weekends I only join the game to receive my daily login reward.
I do not want mounts.
1. They leave dirt everywhere. Imagine going to the bank and smelling all that **** combined from horses, dolyaks, and other beasts.
2. They require time to cast and take space in bags.
3. They will cost gems or gold. You will be tempted to buy them all, even though you will use only one at a time.
4. There are waypoints all over the game. I can’t see a practical reason for mounts.
There’s a weird disconnect going on in this thread. People don’t trust a company with their phone numbers, but they do trust them enough to install software provided by them on their computers?
If I didn’t trust a company, I’d give them my phone number before I’d let their software run on my system. One can only do so much damage with a phone number, but software? Brrr…
Phone is more important than software. Nowdays people hold important contacts, social network accounts (with passwords for instant access), websites accounts, friends, games they love, youtube profiles, music, very important pictures, memories, payment profiles for shopping in stores, and so on.
A phone is much more important than a PC because of the amount of personal information stored in the phone.
When it comes to a company knowing my phone number, sending me SMS for logins, enforcing me to use their service with my phone, it’s like adding one more thing to the importance of the phone. Gaming should be simple, input username and password, then enjoy the game for a period of time, then logout to join back tomorow.
Let’s say I activate this SMS thingy for security… to secure what?! Adding text messages, like a bank account service, for an online game with no content for 7 months, is not something I personally desire. For 2 months (since announcement) I am still in doubt if I want HoT or not to continue using their new and shiny, but unknown product.
Dual step authentication is justified for a bank account holding my work value. Dual step authentication is not justified for a game designed for casual fun where content is not delivered constantly to keep me tied into it (like it was about 2 years ago with content every 2 weeks).
Players always complain. Now it’s elementalist, tomorow is revenant, then it’s thief, or mesmer, or necro, or guardian, and so on. Stop complaining, just enjoy the game.
If you do not like a profession, just play some other profession that you feel it’s great and awesome. This is the best message for developers to investigate why 74% of PvP players choose elementalist (just an example percentage). If elementalist gets nerfed, choose something else to send again a feedback to developers. That way you will always enjoy the game, while learning the best professions in game.
I love special effects. I would love to see more special effects in outfits. There is no point in having strong computer with a lot of graphical power, and play games without special effects in items.
+1
Now this is an interesting topic. I am curious what ArenaNet has to say about their religious naming rules not being enforced.
I have seen characters with names in reference to religious figures, and historical figures.
I have seen characters with “misspellings or alternative spellings” of religious figures.
What if someone steals my phone? The thief will receive my SMS instead of me.
They should add a requirement to make a photo or video of the phone receiving the SMS and upload it to GW2 website, in order to confirm we are in possession of the phone on that specific moment.
What if a friend can take my phone for a few moments while I am on a club/pub/bar/restaurant? In this case he/she can see my SMS messages. ArenaNet needs to also add phone call authentication with voice recognition to confirm I am indeed the owner of the phone and number.
What if my twin brother can see my SMS messages and can imitate my voice for authentication recognition? ArenaNet needs to urgently add a fingerprint authentication for smartphones and tables, to know I am the customer with that account and phone.
On the other side, what if I am in debt on some moneylender and to punish me, that moneylender decides to cut my finger, take my smartphone, and use it all to empty my GW2 account for the debt. In this case they should also add a retinal scan for smartphone, to really proove nobody has stolen my account, phone, voice and fingerprint.
I still don’t know what should be done if I stumble on the stairs and loose one of my eyes. My GW2 account can be stolen because someone gets access to the retinal scan. In my opinion this is exactly why securing an account is extremely difficult. All these procedures must be put in place to protect the customers and their ingame fun.

New, or free, accounts are limited.
Without SMS, accounts are limited.
Coming up next, without a GW2 tattoo on right hand accounts will be limited.
These sales are so boring. Please ANet, just put nice things in the store so i can spend my gems
You want something, get it. Do not rely on ArenaNet or players to give you something interesting. By the time you get that offer you want, you lost the joy of moment. Waiting 6 months for a 25% off, does not worth the gems. Just enjoy the game, as it is right now, because life happens here and now.
Many persons want something useful and cheap, but right now the game is as it is. If you want something, get it and have fun with it, no matter the price. GW2 is about having fun, while it is a business for ArenaNet (not for you). Let ArenaNet have concerns with statistics about sales and money because it is their problem, not ours; we can just enjoy the game.
I do expect that even HOt become free?
Indeed. HoT will become free in future (or included for free in core game) when next expansion (after HoT) will come. People will always have to buy 1 game, or the latest expansion for 50$.
In other words, everything else (expansions from the past) will be given for free, while the latest expansion will cost 50$ and will be considered full access to the game (with no limitations).
If they add bunny ears, I don’t think I shall buy this item. Everybody will have it, nothing unique about this girlie item.

I fully support this topic. There should be a sound bar (or at least a checkbox) for minis volume. There is so much going on so fast, we do not need minis sound this loud.
Accounts created in Trial Weekends are active, with all characters created and have all the limits, except these:
- they received all bonuses and birthday gifts (2) during this time (including Royal Guard Outfit)
- bag slots 5 (not 2)
- /team chat unlocked (not mentioned if it should be locked though)
There is no mention about /team chat. What will happen when those free players join WvW or PvP with access to /team chat?
“Free accounts can use local chat and whispers, but not map chat.”
What about /team chat? WvW will be full of spamming in /team on an entire borderland. ArenaNet please take action fast.
Hold your horses. Bunny Ears will come, ArenaNet has to put it on this anniversary sale. Players are willing to pay top gem for it. Besides, there is no content for 7 months, so it’s not the right time to disappoint players.
Just wait…
Let’s say tomorow ArenaNet decides to remove from the game Dust Dye (which at the moment costs ~2 silver).
Would all players choose Dust Dye as reward for 3 years, just because it can not be obtained ingame, even though only few people actually like it?
It will be an honor for me to be backstabbed with a stick. I am curious if you can break the stick into someone.
Prices on auctions will rise and drop as ArenaNet chooses (not players decide what is rare or not).
My advice (not that it matters): Do not choose a birthday dye because it is expensive or rare, choose it because you like it and you will use it now. These dyes are account bound (you can’t sell them for gold), and if you waste that choice for a dye you do not like or will use in far future, you end up wasting a great opportunity for fun now.
Remember: you play this game for your fun, not for a volatile auction system controled by designers.
I consider all sales and offers as something good, because ArenaNet tries to make money from those microtransactions, while keeping the buyers happy.
I am always curious to see what is next. Personally I am waiting for great things such as Bunny Ears, Royal Terrace Pass or items/weapons/outfits with awesome special effects.
Today is your birthday. It is a great moment to reflect on your past time, present moments and future life, with memories spent on GuildWars2.
Now it is the time to ask yourself why have you not manage to create a legendary or ascended so far. Now it is the time to brace yourself, take courage and be brave. Now it is the time to wake up from dreaming about obtaining everything for free. Now it is the time to enjoy life, appreciating every reward the game has to offer with hard work.
Get up, and take a leap of faith in hard thinking and rewarding work to create a legendary or ascended.
Rise! Rise as a great player of GuildWars2!
I love seeing so many happy players.
This is one of the best ideas from ArenaNet.
Thank you ArenaNet.
I would love some gems on third anniversary, but I know it will not happen. :P
