We already have waypoints to get around faster making mounts obsolete
No! The lat thing we need Platemail high heels
they sold for $9.99 USD on GW1 doesent look like much of a change to me .besides its not like you cant exchange gold for gems anyway
Cultural is for looks and looks only so it doesn’t matter if its rare or exotic since your buying it for its skin .
whatever you say. You still need to brush up on your lore big time though before you go making an ignorant statement about the guild wars again which ended in 1070AE
Ignorant…brilliant choice of words….un-informed. I got to a point last night in my story where it broke it down to after the chaos of destruction that the world broke off into their own guilds of survival and warred with each other for various reasons. Mind you that is very short summary… their presentation was more specific and dark.
How was I off the mark ? in the WvW I think of the servers names as being the name of the specific guilds. Or is it because you, in your interpretation, tend to think about the WvW as an extension of the ongoing story in PvE…. which I would wonder where Eir, Kaithe, or Logan an the others are hiding in the WvW maps. I haven’t seen them.
No…I don’t know the lore. It’s why I am playing and playing a role, my role, through the game. Hitting all the towns, villages and conflicts along the way to hear the stories they have to tell. And jumping in WvWvW to (YES MY OPINION only) go back in time pre 1070 when you said the wars “stopped” and lend my talents to my “Guild” to help better our chances of the day.
I am however glad to see your passionate about it. That’s a good thing. Seems to me you are an example of what I was speaking about. A player immersed in the world in their own way to play out their role in the story.
@Jack of Tears… I can say I wish i knew you in game. Seems running through the wonderful world of Tyria would be entertaining as hell if not straight fun.
I am what you call a lore hound and i give my characters profiles based off lore past and present . You may disagree on its importance but i find lore to be paramount to a good character as i said before .
whatever you say. You still need to brush up on your lore big time though before you go making an ignorant statement about the guild wars again which ended in 1070AE
How about i think of ya as grounds keeper willy
Trooper and Commando seems to be personal story only
Conquest is Karma with different stats depending on where

WvW is a great place for the possibilities of GUILD WARS
For someone touting the RPG aspect you sure dont know the lore very well . Anyone who’s ever played an RPG knows that lore is paramount to doing it properly. Perhaps you should read up on what the Guild Wars were and how the land of Tyria took its shape both culturally and physically .
sadly i dont think theres a gaming laptop in existence that wont be obsolete in 2 years . Even if you built one more powerful than the death star today down the road it would need an upgrade which is more expensive than it needs to be if not impossible when it comes to most laptops.
The prices are fine. Obsidian/Vabbi armor in GW1 was way more expensive really if you’d compare the effort to get those. Tier3 is supposed to be the most prestigious set in game currently and it has to be expensive. It’s not required for anything other than show off/vanity.
Vabbian would probably be the equivalent of T2 at best ( more likely Orders armor ) . Vabbian was far cheaper than FoW and took less effort.
Id roll an Ele or an Engineer for contrast . both can be a swiss army knife giving you good diversity. the Engineer is a lot more durable though
To find the shore?
Maybe actually be able to step foot on the shore to the far south of the Sea of Elon .
Guild Halls ( one can hope anyway )
Some DSD action
go to the PvP locker and try to find a set up you like .
well the GW1 set up for skills is a blessing and a curse at the same time . there are tons of awesome builds you can make but at the same time you could make some abolutely hideous ones too.
dont get me started on the GW1 mesmervs the GW2 mesmer . Mesmer 2.0 is…… lacking . ill just leave it at that before i rantt
You too? LOL I sure do miss those hexes. Love the clones, hate the idea of having phantasms as “Living Hexes”
Also, another important thing to note in Guild Wars, there are such things as Secondary Proffesion and some of the Proffessions are much different in Guild Wars then those in Guild Wars 2 (Such as Rangers, Mesmers, Ritualists, Dervish, Paragon, Monk, Necros and maybe even Eles)
My main was a Mesmer for 7+ years iin GW1 .In GW2 My mesmer is an alt at this point
dont get me started on the GW1 mesmervs the GW2 mesmer . Mesmer 2.0 is…… lacking . ill just leave it at that before i rantt
Actually going to the mists does . Specifically the rift . "In the middle of The Mists is a spot where time moves neither forward nor back. It is a tear in the fabric of the cosmos, the point of perfect balance between all forces of the universe. "
Personally just wish they had more than the rainbow bright pistol as i like to call it . shooting rainbows may be fine for some but give an alternative legendary pistol to it
Dunno why they couldn’t have just put ‘I Will Avenge You!’ as the Elite shout.
haha IWAY . i remember when that was an HA build back in the day using R/W or W/R with pets .
I was wondering if the female characters could get their own dance. Or would this just be a stupid thing to suggest? I’m sorry if I offend you with my stupid ideas, but this popped into my head last night at work.
I was wanting the female human dance to be Elliot Reid’s “I Told You So” dance from the TV show ‘Scrubs’… preferably from Season 8 Episode 12 at the 14 minute mark.
Once again, sorry for the stupid idea.. just wanted to get it out of my head.
Any of you other guys / girls would like female characters to have their own /dance?
not stupid at all. In GW1 dances were divided both by sex and class . so male wars did one dance and female wars did another
my comment was only in regards to a secret society. New classes should be added, but the lore has to fit.
Agreed this is why i said if an arcanist was added it should be because of the Priory finding scrolls or something of the sort in Orr. Its also why i mentioned Temporal Distortion being a must as lord Odran is described as an arcanist who specialized in it . The only reason one can enter the mists is because when Odran died the wards he put on his portals to mists failed giving access to everyone .
Balthazar stood in lions arch and opened access to the mists. It had nothing to do with Odran.
also, leave temporal distortion and such to the potential chronomancers is my opinion.
I probably should have specifically mentioned HoH and TOPK but i didn’t. Either way
“Using a spell of his own devising and the sacrifice of many souls, Lord Odran, a powerful arcanist who specialized in the study of temporal distortions, opened a portal that offered him access to the Mists and eventually into the Rift itself.”
“When Odran’s mortal body died, the wards and enchantments that kept his portals hidden failed, and the gates to the Hall of Heroes were laid open to all who were able to find them.”
I am currenlty playing through GW2 and having an absolute blast. However, I feel I know too little about the world and I must start with the beginning, thus I plan to play GW1 next to GW2. I know it will take an awful lot of time to “finish” the first game, but I’m in no hurry.
The main reasons to do this would be story and lore. I know there are resources on the internet, videos on youtube and the sort but somehow I feel like experiencing the full story by myself. I don’t have any friends who want to play this game, and I am not sure I can commit to a guild, I play on and off, sometimes with long breaks, more so since I have no plan of getting fast through the content.
My question would be then: can I experience the story in this game until the very end by playing alone (hiring henchmen, heroes)? I am aware that by doing this I lose the MMO part, but that’s no problem for me, since I got GW2 to provide it. More specifically, what I would hate would be for me to get to end-game story missions and not be able to complete them because I would need a full party of real players and the henchmen/heroes wouldn’t suffice.
A side question would be, since I am not 100% sure with my plan, is it worth it? Not if the game is good or bad, but would you advice me to go with my plan and play GW1 in order to fill all of the story/lore gaps or would you rather recommend that I just go on with GW2 and watch the lore videos on youtube?
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to answer.
PS: I wasn’t sure where to place this thread on the forums so if needs moving there’s no problem at all.
you can absolutely solo it with heros /hench . I would advise starting in Prophesies and Eye of the north since most of the current lore is Tyrian . As far as lore filler You’ll probably want to do a mixture of the game the wiki and the books.
The game actually gets it name from its lore . The Guild Wars happened from 1013-1070 After Exodus and only really ened because of the Charr invasion that happened in the same year . Your character comes along right before The Searing and you WILL learn to hate the Charr because of it .
why doesn’t gw2 have more solo content .
almost the entire game is soloable the only that isent are Meta Events and Dungeons .keep dungeons the way they are

repair costs for an 80 are what 10 silver if you wait for the red broken icon? I dont find that unreasonable since you can pretty much make that back in 5 mins .
pretty cool idea, would love new ranged wep for my guard. I find it interesting that Tyria has yet to invent crossbows, seeing a show they’ve gone straight from a simple bow to rifles and pistols.
no they have Balistae which are pretty much oversized crossbows so they just need to pull the smaller versions out of storage
It doesn’t take long at all, assuming you know what to do. A few hours and you’ll be there.
Armor sets: Go for a handfull of the cheaper ones, not the expensive ones. Ancient, and Eye of the North reputation sets are all cheap, easy to make. With Asura, Norn, Monument, Ancient, and one more random one, you’re at 4 points
Hero statues: These are incredibly easy. Grab a ranger secondary, and tame a Black Moa, Imperial Phoenix, both in Factions storyline, and then any random common pet. Complete the quest to get M.O.X. Get every hero that can get it, Stolen Sunspear Armor for 5 Nightfall heroes. Get Brotherhood Armor for every EoTN hero. 7 points.
Titles: Linking accounts gives you points automatically. Then beat every campaign mission, in normal and hard mode, with bonus/masters. It’s pretty easy with heroes, and will get you 9 titles. Get one more random statue to bring it up to 10. 9 points.
Weapons: If you do all the War in Kryta quests, in hard mode, you’ll make enough for 1 Oppressor Weapon. Destroyer Weapons are incredibly easy to craft, and you only need 1. 3 points
Miniatures: This is really the hard one, for someone jumping in to the game now. One rare, and one unique (a gold and a green) mini, and you’ve got 3 points.
4 from Armor, 7 from heroes, 3 from weapons, 3 from miniatures, 9 from titles. 4+7+3+3+9 = 26 points.
Completion time: Nightfall Campaign, 20 hours. Eye of the North: 6 hours. Factions campaign, 3 hours. Prophecies campaign, 8 hours. Challenge missions: 3 hours. War in Kryta, 3 hours.
43 played hours total.
Crafting: Depends a lot on your profession and selection. I’d do it on a ranger, as they’ve got pretty common ingredients for pretty cheap armor. With 100k from storybooks, MOX, and Bonus Mission Pack, plus ~20k from nightfall treasures, you can do 2.5 sets of armor. ALWAYS SKIP HEADGEAR. That saves you a good amount per set. Assuming you looted enemies, did quests, and otherwise made money while beating all three campaigns in normal and hard mode, you should have enough to do at least one other 40k cost armor set.
So, you’re left to your own devices to farm 2 more armor sets, and one destroyer weapon. Use your heroes to vanquish zones in Cantha for Kurzick or Luxon faction, turn the faction into Amber/Jadeite, and sell those to a rare material vendor for about 1k a piece. I’d say no more than 20 hours to farm out 100k would be needed.
63 played hours total, 26 points.
actually a black Moa chick is really easy to get . its more of a run around than anything else and you dont even have to be the one with the Final Assult quest to get it to hatch . although doing the Sorrows furnace quests and FA wouldent be a bad idea for the statue .
better than pants that look like gloves……
I agree it should be renamed "Advance to the Rear "
I’ll admit you could make a case for an Arcanist that would be cannon but the priory would have to find scrolls somewhere in Orr for it to work . Temporal Distortion would also have to be either a trait line or a field of magic .
NOTE: One thing that bothers me about many an MMO is that somehow it’s become the ‘leaders’ job to organize everything, to make up special olympics for the ‘socially impaired’.
Who actually expects this? i sure dont . The biggest organizational effort our alliance did was district hosting for Canthan New Year in GW1 but that was a combined effort in farming stuff organizing who was going to be hosting at what hour and getting the word out on what districts we were hosting . When it comes to stuff like dungeons people would never get it done if they expected the guild leader to do it .
you need it to build rapport.
You need to encourage people to help each other so you aren’t always the link in the chain and this game feels like “hang on got to go to my 2nd job tonight”.
your quoting the wrong person here .I agree 100% and even said that Officers /Leaders need to build a rapport in a previous post of mine . I can tell you right now i would throw myself in front of a bus for the guild leader of my main guild and im not just saying that either .Organization brings members in rapport keeps them .
None of them ! I vote Destinies Edge
the Guild Wars ended in 1070 AE
Well firstly the trinity is gone and "raids " have been replaced by meta events so lets get that out of the way right away.
As far as is it fun i think so. It will take you some time to adapt to the lack of trinity DEs and Hearts instead of Quests etc but its definitely worth it .
as far as the social element . probably the most helpful MMO community ive seen . Oh and yes its active
Since you are Lore person try picking up the 3 Guild Wars books they will fill you in on some of the details that you may not otherwise get lore wise going in .
heres the thing not only is making 3 auto attacks lazy but its an invitation to bot nation . surely you can see that.
no i dont really use it at all . it hinders more than helps in most cases . Id rather just spam 1 while everything else is on recharge than use auto attack .
From a PvE perspective you want to have as many level 80s as possible that way when your friends are doing a dungeon and are wanting a specific class for one reason or another you can pop on over and help out in a flash . Who knows you may even find a new main doing it .
I believe the term for that is botting or at the very minimum laziness
Ok lets assume they went with your idea for a moment . you would still have the inventory issue after a while anyway. Besides its not like 2 clicks is THAT hard and if it is you have issues .
As far as the Heritage stuff goes

Ive got this wonderful new perfume called LA Beach. got it from an Asuran charlatan named Gadd if i remember correctly or was it Vekk
Ele you can roll switch quickly to adapt to the situation the easiest .
im not MR ROBOTO and i wish i knew the answer too.

no way id rather they named a hammer Emcee
Here are a few reasons its a good thing
1) if your "main guild " only really does PvE and has no intrest in PvP you can have a PvP guild . This way when you are doing PvE you rep one and when you are doing PvP rep the other . I cant really see a down side to this .
2) if a friend decided to make their own guild for one reason or another you could give them a boost in the influence department to get it off the ground .
3) It makes Guild leaders/officers actually have to work to maintain membership . Face it if your not doing your job as officers and leaders ( part of which is establishing a good rapport with members ) your not going to keep members very long .
If you really think about it it encourages community more as you’re more likely to make friendships with more people being in multiple communities .
oh dont be a carebear . Waypointing is a money sink and if you dont have the money you’re doing it wrong .
You asked for it you know it .
