No mounts - I simply don't understand...

Mounts are a great concept, but in every single MMO I’ve played except one (LoTRO), the actual implementation ranged from silly to downright ridiculous. Mount acquisition quickly turns into an arms race of sorts, with each new introduction having to “out-cool” the previous iterations, until you realize your MMO world has been turned into a Disney-esque cartoon carnival with flying carpets, roaring hotrods, glittery pink unicorns, etc. Faster, faster, faster! Neon colors! Now with flying!!!

I won’t be surprised if we eventually get some kind of mount. I just hope ArenaNet shows more restraint than most game developers in this regard.

OMG OMG I wanna Princess Miyamorei Kadenza mount!!! :D I know she’s technically an alicorn, but still ^_^

Anyway, I have had issues with mounts in previous games such as SWTOR (couldn’t drive a few feet without sandpeople knocking you off. Other planets were just as bad though thankfully Ilum and Hoth were mount friendly). I also remember Aeonaxx campers in Deepholm and even camping myself and then thinking “Screw it, it isn’t worth it”. Besides, the flameward hippogryph already looked cool and took a long time of grinding dailies to unlock. I also had a nice stable of dragons from that Burning Crusade zone. I liked collecting mounts and was basically my endgame activity away from battlegrounds. I also hated ranged mobs since they could knock you off flying mounts =(

Maybe something like WoW or SWTOR would be good (though obviously no flying mounts even though I like them because GW2 just isn’t built for them. Besides, you might crash into an invisible wall lol!) but with far more tolerance to mob hits so you can’t be knocked off so easily (though still possible but never in one hit).

It was during the off hours in a small part of the area too, there were many others by other areas. But yeah that’s nothing compared to peak hours (such as now) and more active servers. As for veterans… well, the veteran mob dies too fast and I get no credit even if I arcane blast it -_-

I wish yellows sold for 5-15 gold, that would be amazing.

In any case, I agree with the OP, right now the economy is going down the tube because of various factors (one major one is the diminishing returns systems on loot and events). Rares are quickly losing their value and becoming salvage items.

Between the anti-farming systems and the fact that so many mobs drop junk items, salvage items, and vendor trash items, it’s difficult to get any value out of your time killing things.

Actually, I try fighting many things because of the salvage items and vendor trash since all that accumulated trash adds up. Salvage items also give materials like silk =)

Anyway, yellow is the new blue, white is the new gray, green is still green, and orange is the new purple ^_^

is this serious?
if you guys choose to run in circles all day in an endless “tag for karma” loop then you get what you get.
theres a whole game out there

That’s what we center our skills around by necessity. Not support, because healing and slowing gives no loot, not single target, because you’d only get one drop out of so many mobs, so we need fast AoEs and that’s a design flaw. There’s a whole game out there, true, but I was the only person at the pirate ship trying the dead sailor quest, and all I wanted was the discovery. I got silver for the event, and given I’m an ele who had to solo it =( It involved for me recovery kiting (i.e., when something’s chasing you and you’re still out of combat kite, dodge, and hope for the best), lay down AoE fields, target higher health mob, switch back to lower health mob when downed, rally, get swarmed, and die anyway.

There were at least some people by the ice elementals in the southwest corner, but still pales in comparison to the other part of the map I showed.

“First off TSW failed because it is niche and it is Funcom… Everyone that played AOC saw that name and wrote it off immediately.”

TSW didn’t fail, and at least they achieved PvP balance in that game (apart from some factions being more popular but I mean as far as class goes since there are no classes and everyone has access to the same PvP builds).

Blacklight.2871:

“Agreed. It’s not just Elementalists that have it rough in those events. Any profession that isn’t capable of quick and consistent mass mob tagging, won’t be getting drops at a decent enough rate to justify staying in that group. Also, if you’ve got a condition-based spec, it’s disheartening to know that the majority of your damage is getting ignored before it even lands. And for support, forget about it. There’s no incentive to support unless you’re actually in danger of failing, which is rare. Secondary and collateral skill effects tend to be all the support that’s ever needed.

They need to toughen up those trash mobs and have them scale more effectively with the amount of participation. Right now, they are getting smeared faster from AoEs, than I can acquire them as targets. At least bosses still tend to put up a long fight."

This entire post!

“I remember the 1st time it was unbugged, zone was full and all you could hear was ‘FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!’ every 3 seconds for a good 45 minutes”

I keep hearing it… all the time in Orr -_-

“Use Air and Earth attunement…start in Air use #4 to jump into combat then quickly switch to Earth and use #4 followed by #5 from there just use #2 to protect yourself and then swap to Air when it is off CD and hit #5 to jump out of combat. From there I usually just use Air auto-attack and #2 to deal quick damage from a distance.”

I’ll take the combo under consideration and I usually like Earth especially against heavy armored mobs as bleed ignores defense (great underwater especially with the long bleed skill) though I mostly stick with fire staff. I also switch to air whenever someone uses some guardian skill to scatter the mobs because it’s 1 ability has longer tap range and bounces off mobs whereas with fire they have to be closer together.

It’s pretty saddening too that pretty much the entire population is here and everything dies so fast that you get no loot and only a bronze… as an elementalist:

At least a couple of people had flaming greatsword. Why would that be? What use does flaming greatsword have when trash easily dies? Elementalist skills require charging, and by the time fireball charges groups of mobs are usually dead whereas flamesword’s ranged attack is instant. I also have a picture of people meteor showing corners before anything appears too.

Again, it’s sad when strategy and skill layout are geared towards tapping mobs instead of helping the group. Out of the many elementalists I’ve seen I have yet to see one who’s water and uses healing shower and ice ground. Why would that be? Because healing and utility just aren’t rewarded in these events.

As to the question it’s just a clever loophole exploit, but probably not illegal unless Anet’s codes registers it as a bot even if it technically isn’t based off behavior metrics.

Disabling loot/exp off ALL grubs in the game (caledon, random spawns in orr, event spawns) is, without a doubt, the most ham-handed way of resolving this situation.

What would be your solution to the problem, keeping in mind it has to be implemented quickly, minimal development time so as to not let the problem exist for too long as to impact the game any more. People need to look up the term “temporary.”

I know you didn’t ask me, but I’d simply stop having grubs spawn around the giant.

So, when is the random “invulnerable” underwater bug getting fixed? I have to blow so many cooldowns to burst normal mobs as fast as I can before the invulnerability activates. Usually, by attuning to fire, blowing all those cooldowns, blow boiling water, then switch to earth and get in the 9 stacks of bleed, then finally to air where I stand close enough to it to ensure all three bolts pelt it, when in fact I’d just as easily kill it with auto-attacking lightning at close range (not all mobs of course but this is just for a 1vs1 against certain mobs).

I think every zone should be, to an extent, like cursed shore.

Most people that play this game do not get it like to casually mindless stroll though zones stopping and afking why the text their buddy about how the pwnface or some other nonsense

The speed of this game and the absolute necessity to pay attention while you are in cursed shore is exactly what I wished alot of the game was

And tbh you learn to play your character in cursed shore, or you realize something else

The problem is there’s no way to zoom our camera out far enough to dodge attacks that are coming from behind. At least in WoW we could pan our camera far enough out behind us to see everything that’s going on (though they don’t have active dodge).

Come on guys dying on a personal story is nothing compared to saving the world after dying 400 times.

Downed should be made immune to knockbacks because people oftentimes set up AoE DoT fields and area damage because they know they’ll be downed. If you’re knocked out of those fields then your death is far more certain. I’ll wait until getting my level 80 exotics to finish my personal story, 8 silver repairs per quest is just way too expensive. Oh well, off to the level 45-55 zones as they’re the most cost effective and profitable trash pick up for my level. Trash value doesn’t really seem to scale up significantly enough to offset the time spent.

Actually, you could. There’s a hole in the roof that allows you to recover. Of course, not that it matters since the Krayt with bleed, pull, knockback, etc., will get you anyway. Oh, and don’t expect your NPC friend to hold aggro. The veteran fights are relatively easy, though the last two before the champ won’t have the NPC with you so you’ll have to solo them, and they’re soloable at least for an elementalist.

" Ressed him, we tried to fight but they respawned faster than we could kill them. We died, he gave up, I was taking a breather as someone else came by. He ressed me and aggroed mobs. Respawns started all around us and killed us both."

Terrible, but you have to understand that those events are balanced around far more than just a couple of people. Oh, if you attack a clam risen will spontaneously spawn around you =(

So it is not even a real RPG then?

What’s a “real” RPG?

Character progression.
Repetition.
Creativity.
Dedication to your main.

My ideal MMORPG would be like this:

Fantasy setting.
Very slow leveling curve.
Complexity like EvE Online.
Sandboxy like SWG.
Only one character allowed.
Trinity.
Semi permadeath.
Distinct classes with a set role.
Racial bonuses suchkitten damage for orcs etc.
Longevity.

Good job ArenaNet, I’ll play again when you finally make Elementalists viable beyond two builds and make the vast majority of their tool kits viable for MORE than just 5v5 Structured PVP.

Right now they feel like they are just purely balanced for 5v5, but you know —- a vast portion of this game is 8v8 and WvW. Guess what? Elementalist sucks in this game modes, so I’m done. I just can’t stand feeling constantly subpar to every other class.

I had a pretty cool guild, and they were what kept me playing. Then, the guild disbanded and I just stopped playing because the repetitive endgame grind felt more like a second job. I waited for The Secret World, which was a good game, and in between games would just play and study Chess. I still do but it’s secondary to leveling my elementalist and even thief.

This is your first MMO? Too bad, because if you go on to others you’ll be sorely disappointing. I’m looking forward to Phantasy Star 2 coming out, I don’t care if it’s going to be a free to play but pay to be a pro game, I’ll play it along side GW2 though it looks really fun and good and has the best character customization I’ve seen. To be fair seeing…, umm…, shall we say, disproportionately big melons everywhere is a negative unintended consequence of such a great character customization.

Wonderland Online is a relatively little known MMO yet it was very active. Yes it was free to play pay to be a pro but the community was great. People would help others and there was an in-game bot because the game was just that grindy. It was the game’s way of saying, “Good luck, you’ll need this for your half a level a month”, and everyone made separate e-mail accounts for all their alts to make leveling easier for those times when you didn’t have the right element to train with (water and fire were high in demand due to experience increasing with damage and buffs and the lower level the pet the higher experience the players would get so we’d dismiss pets, capture, rinse, and repeat until level 180 where we’d class promote. Bursting didn’t work for characters over 180 or promoted characters).

Are you suited to play ele?

A Razer Naga helps a lot and rebinding attunements to letter keys (I have W for fire and R for water as R was typically my main healing skill or recuperate before getting one, maybe I’ll bind T or E to earth) will too. Sometimes you just have to learn to kite and balance some situations around the downed state. The molten lava when downed talent combined with radiation field and stacked DoTs (bleed, burning) will really see the mobs’ HP racing downwards really fast. Annoying thing is, sometimes you’re downed before throwing down the radiation field or first lava (which stacks with downed lava )

I am sorry but by playing both extensively, necros still are better – or at least it’s easier to bring their “potential” out than doing the same for an elementalist.

Also, necros cantrips etc can’t even be compared with the bland garbage elementalists got.

Elementalist is great underwater. I soloed some quest skill mobs in Mount Maelstrom and the underwater hunter one seemed tough because of the constant poison and slight regeneration (bursting that down again with wind after cyclone takes forever). However, DoT kiting with earth may take awhile, but it’s a more reliable way of getting that skillpoint, and the fire skill that cleanses poison is a godsend (though it’s CD is too long). Circle strafe and keep applying bleed =win. Wind is usually great underwater (but only underwater) because of the high single target damage from the three bolts, and all three can only hit if you’re close enough to the target.

Why is wind so weak outside water?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

Like the topic suggests. Fire has the best damage (it’s fire after all and it should, hello!), water has healing and an AoE that reduces armor, Earth has bleeds and great crowd control, but what does wind have? Great single target underwater, but you have to stand toe to toe with whatever you’re fighting to ensure all three bolts hit them, and if they’re tough enough or have an AoE poison you should just DoT kite them with earth.

How do you get passed straits of devastation?

This Game Is Nothing But Frustrating After Level 40

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

Zone after zone is almost complete devoid of any players, whatsoever. Yet there are countless group events…

On my first level 80, people were like “lol ur GOIN 2 FAST STOP THE RUSH!!! WOW PLAYER@@@”, so I can excuse this, to a degree. But there is no excuse now. Plenty of players are level 40 and above (many people such as myself have at least one 80), but these zones are still completely empty

The lack of a subscription fee lets Guild Wars 2 get away with a lot. No endgame content, terrible voice acting, poor class balance, etc., are all to be expected from a buy to play game. But when you can’t even level up without avoiding half the game, there’s a problem

Classes are more balanced than many other games and is actually quite good. They have things unique to their class only, as only an elementalist can switch attunements, Mesmers create illusions, guardians have their support abilities, rangers have pets and best bow abilities, necros with death shroud (okay, they get pets too, though I think the mechanics might be different as I have no experience with these classes other than beta), thieves with initiative and steal, etc. Compare with SWTOR where classes were very homogenized. Both jedi/sith and smuggler/agent had a stealth class, one a stealth tank and the other a stealth healer, and abilities were very similar. Resources were different, but abilities the same. Oh, and troopers could tank, heal, and DPS, not only that, but bounty hunters due to animations have their abilities hit much sooner.

As for voice acting… did you notice the human male has the same voice as the male Jedi consular from SWTOR? If someone told me it’s the same actor I’d believe them. Countess Anise and Tybalt have good voice acting, as does Agent Betenga and the other Orders’ representatives. As for endgame content there’s Orr and that 70-80 zone north of some Norn land (I was just there). Not to mention PvP.

There are legitimate concerns such as mobs having slow-downs (if you’re trying to get away it’s pretty much impossible as cleansing abilities need to go off CD and lightning flash is a point and click ability), Krayt, and those things that shoot rapid fire poison, and the poison lasts too long, a billion mobs coming out of nowhere when you attack one, etc., but overall they’ll fix these problems.

Here, people are complaining about being forced to explore. I like exploring, it makes it feel like I might stumble upon a secret or find rare stuff.
