Funny I just referenced weapon swapping in my previous post. I’d say about every few battles. When I’m low enough on HP and really need to keep my distance, or when something has a PBAoE or another attack that would be neutralized by going ranged. For example, one would be crazy to fight a krait with a knockback on one of those vista towers as melee. Those aren’t fun at all, as you can’t dodge and poison AoE is everywhere. And one may materialize just as you attack one =(
i’ve had the opposite experience with crafting. now having taken 3 crafts to 400, i am seeing the coin roll in. as in 2g at the end of my playing session for the day. this is in addition to the de chains i did(coincidentally ‘farming’ my mats) earning me about 1g per 2 hours of play. i don’t do the holy trinity of orr like many players do, either. otherwise i’d be earning close to 1.5g/hr.
what i can agree with is that crafting under 275 will get you nothing in profit. just salv your crafted items and save them for later. once you start making rares/exotics then you can see the profit margin increase
Unfortunately, you’re right – because of the mess that the TP is in currently, no one’s buying anything mid-level. You need to be making rare or exotic items, at a minimum, to really sell, or produce something that another profession needs to level to actually make money on the TP. Crafting’s difficult right now because of a number of issues, but I’m hoping it will improve over time.
No one! But… I just bought some rare 65 daggers… when I only had 30 silver -_- Yeah, even rares are cheap at that level.
When materials and sometimes RNG are where the big money is something’s wrong with the design fundamentally. The value of maxing a profession is worth more than what you can make apparently.
Looks like precursors go up in price again. All 250g+ Dawns and even a 300g Dawn vanished from TP today.
Price has far exceeded value, and therefore they’re expensive -_-
When % rates for prerequesite items were nerfed naturally that created a scarcity where their value would increase, but now they’re to the point where we’re probably better off making our own prerequisites.
It means that someone is probably buying them at those prices. You could try making a dusk and probably get like 30g profit (unless you’re lucky enough to win a dusk/dawn on the first try then over 200g profit), that’s including undercutting the current sellers by 10g =)
another nerf to elementalist and thief…
as these classes were a remotely viable in WvWvW…what do i need a “Glyph of renewal” for? if not for rezzing dead people? another useless skill in the elementalist arsenal.
nerfing whirlol? nobody cares because nobody use this skill out of the water (yes the only underwhater skill for elementalists is nerfed).
nerfing pistolwhip? the ‘trivial to dodge’ skill that roots you in place for like five seconds and makes you vulnerable to anything? thats just show arenanet cave in to the crying masses… what about “whirling axe” ? ah, this one is perfectly fine, yes?
you call this balance? this is a joke.
why dont you balance classes that have range, damage, roots and pets at the same time instead…
sometimes, it is better not to touch something that it is not broken.
I care about the nerf to whirlpool. Underwater creatures drop scales and other loot, yet some mobs have pullbacks (trivial to dodge if you’re soloing and are facing them, but usually you’ll be pulled anyway since you can’t dodge everyone’s pull), and underwater mobs spawn pretty fast. Also, sometimes it’s nice to burst stuff down before “invulnerability” kicks in. It’s mostly a great “Oh crap abunch of things want to kill me” ability that isn’t used lightly. If the former whirlpool took, say, seven mobs down to almost dead and higher defense mobs to half then you’d be saved, but now the high defense mobs would be over half and you’d need more hits to kill the other mobs, and you’d be downed before you switch to earth to finish off the high armored mobs.
Gloom and doom! Elementalist is so terrible! ArenaNet obviously hates us!
Seriously, guys? Whirlpool was OP, and our water stuff is actually pretty decent for CC if you stance dance fast enough. Signets not hitting behind us just brings us in line with everyone else. The glyph probably needs some loving, though.
On the plus side…
“We’ve updated the camera to reduce the amount of camera smoothing currently in the game in order to lower the frequency of related bugs. We’re still looking into other camera issues, but we decided to make this quick change because it greatly improves the gameplay experience.”
We’ll have to see what this does, but this may help dramatically with targeting a lot of spells. If this does what I think, D/D will benefit greatly (fire 2/3/5, water 2, maybe earth 3).
No. Earth 3 will still see us spending a lot of time hanging in the air next to an enemy doing nothing like idiots while we get wailed on, Fire 3 will still not actually go towards the enemy you have targeted, but rather where you are moving instead. Elementalist is still going to be broken in some very fundamental ways, but at least it’ll stop killing people underwater.
It is ludicrous to be applying nerfs to this class, when it already has to attunement dance and pre-plan to excessive degrees to get anything done — meanwhile the warrior standing next to you is just drooling over his 2 key and outperforming you when his saliva completes the circuit. Glyph of Renewl nerfs, are you freaking serious?
Again, monk is looking pretty good. Since I hate faction favoritism and broken talent trees so that is saying something.
The truth about the DR system is:
All those complaining that DR hurts their farming and etc simply do not deserve to get more gold than normal players who just play the game. ArenaNet should punish farmers and other grinders, who create a massive gold disparity when compared to players who are not going to waste their time grinding, but instead would rather have fun.
I wish they would nerf farming more, and reward playing the game normally more. If you want a grind-based MMO, there are many options for you out there.
So you basically want to punish people for actually earning their resources and want them to have just as much as those who put in less time and effort, sounds reasonable.
Don’t forget about mobs! Mobs, their strength and density of numbers always stays the same while players get weaker.
Edit: Some storymode boss was nerfed, but I mean out in the world.
(edited by Agemnon.4608)
Ghostly “We are best at nothing. That is all.”
Don’t say that, we’re still the best class at running away. Noone can catch us
Apparently you haven’t used shadow refuge on a thief -_-
And imps still hit too hard (one isn’t a problem they telegraph and you can dodge, it’s groups that are hard) in addition to other mobs. It looks like somethings on the battlefield remain sacred cows that the gods never nerf lol!
I did a server transfer to get at a skillpoint that was bugged in mine and that other server has an army of Charr running around farming Jourmag cultists in the 15-25 Norn zone =(
Human areas are really bad too, and on my server (switched back to Sanctum of Rall) there are armies of rangers with bears that just kill everything in their path. Harathi Hinterlands has such a bot zerg.
“Honestly. Yeah, I’m done with elementalist. I’ll just got play some other class instead until maybe Anet stops being dumb and gets their act together.”
Monk is actually looking pretty good right now -_-
Whirlpool was a great, “Oh crap! Abunch of stuff has randomly spawned on top of me! Time to whirlpool and live through this!” ability. They could have at least reduced the CD by 33% to compensate for the damage reduction, or buff our "1’ abilities.
Whirlpool got nerfed =( I spent a lot of time underwater knowing it’ll eventually happen. Anyone else?
Those animals also drop hides, cooking ingredients, loot, and even dyes ^_^
Use neutrals to your advantage if you can. If you stand next to one and the mob you’re trying to get away from attacks, then the animal will fight the mob. Saved me a few times.
Have you tried the thief’s dagger swirl or elementalist’s whirlpool abilities? Come back after you unlocked the 30 point skills.
Loot rarity should be balanced around no magic find, the point of magic find is to improve drop percentages, not be necessary just for the chance to get anything.
And again, I was was right, the sky is falling crowd is here too. The game was just released give it a chance. This isn’t SWTOR, and WoW was very bugged on its release.
Why I do explore lower level zones:
It’s good to get map completion out of the way when you’re under 80 since exploring gives good mats and EXP. You could just kill pretty much everything you run across and collect the hides/salvagable weapons/etc.
They should introduce a chef class. No, not just a crafting profession, but an actual class. Obviously, it would wield knives and some other weapons, and it throws foods it made to inflict certain status effects.
Honestly the Twilight sword reminded me of Twilight Sparkle. It’s just a coincidence but still ^_^
Other than the shield they ALL look stupid…wow.
Even the cool lightning sword?
I like that bow! :D
@Manifoldgodhead: Exactly this. I loved levelling my elementalist, but am stuck in Malchor’s Leap (she’s level 79 atm). I know I’m supposed to participate in the events that are all over the map but getting there is an exercise in frustration. Battling through hordes and hordes of undead that CC the crap out of me just to die in the event and do the whole thing all over again is NOT fun. The genius that came up with the idea of contested waypoints, thus blocking our only means of travel, deserves a kick in the backside.
GW2 is a great game and maybe there’s something I’m missing, but I play games to have fun. That’s why I’m going to give pandaville a try this weekend. I’ll definitely be back, though.
You could try heading to Frostgorge like I did at that level range. There are even heart quests, quaggans, and kodans there ^_^
I agree, GW2 is awesome from 1-40. However, you might change your mind, like I did, after you get past the beginning of the game.
I think Bloodtide Coast is the best zone in the game (minus the Inquest event there, no one likes or even bothers with it).
I got killed by a group of hyleks since abunch randomly spawned on me. Nerf stuff that randomly spawns when you’re fighting so I don’t die anymore thank you.
“To be honest with you, back when I actually ran a longbow, I would use that knockback skill in groups because I felt like one player was taking too much damage and I wanted to get that mob or at least one mob off of him or her for a second so they could recover.”
That’s a proper, intended usage whereas “lol no credit 4U!” isn’t.
Icy runestones are… 1g each… -_- Chances for obtaining an exotic needed for a legendary are probably high enough where I’m probably just better off buying from the TP instead of forging 4 exotics in the MF.
Playing the trading post and collecting and selling vendor trash, hello! Gosh!
Never underestimate anti-social trolls, even in this game. Shared EXP is great as it minimizes KSing, but some abilities are used for trolling purposes like hunter knockbacks, which funnily only seem to be used when others are around. Not saying all who uses these kinds of skills are trolls, but the context in which they’re used makes me a bit suspicious. Scattering mobs is also less efficient during DEs as the closer mobs are to eachother the more damage you’ll get per skill overall as you’re hitting more mobs with caltrops, meteor storm, etc., depending on your class. If that’s the intent then the joke is on them because I usually do enough damage to get kill credit and sometimes even loot anyway ^_^
“But they’d likely have to be made massively-longer if that was done anyway or you’d end up with something similar to PSU or PSO2 where the content is all in such short, insular bursts that rooms don’t have proper time to get into full swing.”
I’m looking forward to Phantasy Star 2 coming out even though it’s probably going to be pay to win (Sega said so themselves). It has the best character customization I’ve seen (although this could also be a curse since I really don’t want to see disproportionately big… melons everywhere -_- ) and I love the anime graphics and they remind me of Star Ocean somewhat =) The series is even older than WoW dating as far back as the Dreamcast! I even created some custom characters. They’re female so I’m not going to use them in game, but they are cute ^_^

I’ll look through one of my many screenshot folders for this one:

Raven Everdark
Jaded Necro
Drunkalot
The Sick Duck

The title says it all. I think a good idea for a new expansion would involve this. Queen Jennah would become possessed by an aspect of the dragon and therefore must be killed, but Logan refuses and tries finding another way. Zojja knows through irrefutable Asura science that Jennah must be killed, and does so herself.
Logan discovers that the reason Zojja was mean to him the entire time was because she secretly has a crush on him because Trahearne tells him. Rytlock and Logan become friends again and Rytlock is the best man at Logan’s wedding. As the two kiss after being declared man and wife the spirit of Queen Jennah appears above them, smiling with approval, but no one but the player and some seers in the audience can see her. After the wedding they are all attacked by dredge, but they are easily dispatched of with no inconvenience or collateral damage and Logan and Zojja drive off in a horse and carriage.
Yes. I hope in a future expansion she kills Queen Jenna (because Queen Jenna became corrupted and had to go) and marries Logan and reveals that she had a crush on him the entire time, and used being mean to him as a cover for hiding her feelings.
Either something that’s a cross between a monk and a thief. Their lore would be a highly spiritual group much like the Shaolin monks except that they are known for stealing. Or, something like a death knight but with stealth.

Would be curious if it IS all GTX 570 card owners.
I have the eVGA model, if that helps/matters.
I own a Gigabyte 670 Windforce and have the game on a SATA III Octane 128GB SSD and it still crashes on me =(
Favorite: Sylvari. I have three. I love everything about them.
Least favorite: Asura. I deal with enough self-important scientists within my two majors, so I can’t stand these pompous little midgets. They don’t even do good science! The technobabble isn’t too far off from the research papers I’ve read though…
What’s the matter? Are you jealous of the Asura’s insufferable genius and cute widdle faces? ^_^
As someone who has played tons of thief/mesmer since beta.
Yes invis is insanely strong in this game.
Stronger than pretty much any MMO out there.
Apparently you’ve never played WoW with perma stealth?…
And even then rogues have a high skill cap and should follow the simple rule of don’t shadowstep into the flare lol!
“It was exactly like this in SWToR aswell. Most people that didnt have blindfolds on realizes quite quickittenhe faults of the game, while the fanboys posted stuff like you did to redicule the worried ones.
It didnt go to well for that game.
My guild has gone from 80 players to 16 logging in each day since launch. Most of them give the reason to the game beeing boring an repetative to levelup in, and there not beeing any endgame."
You’re comparing GW2 with SWTOR. Really? GW2 already succeeded whereas SWTOR already failed.
The same thing applies to most stealth based builds….if – as a thief – I can draw 4-6 people away trying to chase me down (which has happened numerous times in WvWvW) instead of playing the objective, I’ve just created a pretty good advantage for my side.
^This.
There are many instances in which I can push a group back a good portion by forcing the front of the enemy to follow me closer to their gate.
And just shadow stepping back.
People keep forgetting that a lot of our skills are melee-based. We have to be close to hurt people (the most). Even with PP it isn’t easy to hurt a group and get smashed by long-range-casters/rangers.
A thief has the ability to scare the group into thinking they will die if they do not attack him.
As a thief I hate when two ranged mobs are far from each other since you have to burst them down individually and any AoE you have will only effect one of them. It’s not a problem if there are only two, but a good strategy is run towards the ranged, melee follows you, you caltrop the ground, death blossom to apply an extra bleed stack, do a normal attack, and finish them off from there depending on what the mobs can do.
An air attuned elementalist properly played has the best escape skills in the game, yet here you are kittening about a thief.
Still curious how a detect invisible skill might change things though. Hopefully the devs read and at least test it out to see if it makes any kind of sense as far as balance goes(for all classes).
All this would do is ruin the thief class mechanics further.
This. I play both and wanted to main air on my ele but earth and fire are more useful most of the time (though air is best underwater as far as toe to toe fighting is concerned) but air attunement is great for getting away, especially with the lightning teleporting skill that breaks CC and gets me to events faster.
My human thief and asura elementalist:
The human is wearing mostly blood dye and has purple breeze for the feather and belt (taro works well too) and oil slick for the boots and gloves. He also has lemon tint on the small metal parts of the boots.
The asura is wearing celestial with mithril accents.
(edited by Agemnon.4608)
Favorite: Asura and Quaggans ^_^
Least: It’s a tough call between Krayt, Hylek, and Dredge. Anything with pullbacks, knockdowns, AoE poison, and rapid fire poison not on CD deserves extinction.
^^ my asura CuddleBunneh <3
+10 internets for you for the name and the outfit ^_^
Whatever happened to actually supporting the company? It isn’t Anet’s fault goldsellers exists, they have existed long before then and they always try undercutting official sources.
Race changes I don’t see happening because our races decide our story quests and establish who our character is. Choosing a race and class is a commitment.
Because the RNG gods want people using the trading post. You could also salvage things you don’t need for mats.
In my new armor I got from the trading post (it’s about time I upgraded!)
The coat is blood and can’t remember the purple name off the top of my head but it’s a rare.
The second picture has abyss on the belt, lemonade for the buttons, and emerald on the coat and most of the hat ^_^
