Why I Think GW2 Will Not Stand the Test of Time

so youre trying to apply something you learned in your undergrad philosophy class? great. but if you ever study eastern philosophy and phenomenology, you’ll realize how much of a moron Nietzche was. he had a very narrow understanding of the world, and knew nothing about how nature works. in fact, he was against nature.

Disagreeing with someone doesn’t make them a moron. You also have to consider the context in which he lived too. His ideas were his own, and being an Atheist in his day wasn’t like today when it’s socially acceptable. Everyone wants to be number one, but by nature only one can be number one. Due to inherent limitations and gifts respectively, in addition to hard work, people are sorted into their place by both nature and their own merits. If you lack talent then you cannot be the best in a chosen field, as that belongs to someone who is not only extraordinarily gifted, but also works hard to exceed those who are equally gifted.

Rezzing also draws heavy aggro, sometimes you have to try rezzing an NPC to get the champ off the downed person’s back. I know because everytime I tried rezzing an NPC the monster would come after me, then go back to the person previously attacking them.

Is it considered an exploit when engineers go AFK with turrets up? This is just something that I have been wondering about. I would think that it is not an exploit. I am just curious what the official stance on it is. I’ve never done it, but I’ve seen other people doing it. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to report it or not.

No, when in doubt don’t report.

You’ll get what you want, just be patient. All MMOs eventually get expansions and even patches before them that add new content. Even SWTOR added Correlia dailies, which was a huge improvement in my opinion over Ilum. Though node and kill stealing took the fun out until only three people quested there at once.

I hear you, but that just means you need to take a break from the game and come back. Hang in there, and remember that WoW doesn’t have active dodge and 90s could grief you in low level zones, and PvP is heavily gear based over there too. Every game at launch has bugs, and WoW turned out to be very popular (with typically non-gamer people being a huge periphery demographic for them. Even Chuck Norris is in their commercials) yet I hear its launch was very buggy.

Humans: A dying race?

Yeah, Humans are the Elves of GW2; Culturally developed, ancient race that once ruled much of the world. Now their time has passed and the younger peoples have surpassed them in power and technology."

I thought Sylvari were the elves of GW2 although far more original?

And why do humans ghosts attack me on my Asura and even other human? What beef do the Ascalon ghosts have with me when I just want to complete exploration? Attacking Charr I can understand, but maybe them being hostile to all races is just for purposes of gameplay and they aren’t plot hostile (like in WoW undead are weak vs. holy according to the plot but for the purposes of game balance don’t have that weakness)?

I don’t know much about GW1 or the lore apart from the story quests and stuff I read (such as
being extinct
) from time to time. I will say this, and these suggestions typically aren’t popular, but hear me out…

Aliens. That’s right, I said it, aliens. I know people can’t suspend their disbelief over how OP the aliens would be compared to a Renaissance equivalent technological level planet, and the Asura are alien enough with their tech and physical features, but there’s just something satisfying about fighting futuristic alien tech bot 9000 with a sword and winning. The game is cool enough without them, but maybe instead of them being a deal you could find a hidden quest or secret dungeon having to do with a small out of the way alien settlement on Tyria where you have to help them.

Update at prime time...not cool, bro.

Don’t play an Ele. I’m a lvl 80 ele and I started playing a thief. While the gameplay is ridiculously simpler, it is far, far easier. I find it more fun to play the Ele, but the amount of effort to play the ele does not equate to better results. It is just that every class is easy mode in comparison.

This. I know melee should have more damage to compensate for lacking the safety of range, but good grief! You also get dashing pirate hats at around level 50 ^_^

Staff ele here, you need to switch between earth and fire frequently, while sometimes going water for healing and slowdown areas. Open with erupt, which bleeds all in the vicinity, wait to use it again, switch to fire, inflict burn, then facetank on your ground AoE lava. Underwater, earth and wind seem the most useful, though fire is good for the #2 skill AoE, but their #1 skill is weak compared to wind. Earth is great against heavily armored foes and those with powerful projectile attacks (like the chaos storm risen) because of DoT damage and the magnetic field.

There were even two nodes in the pirate ship (the one with the skillpoint) area. Don’t be afraid of going underwater too, despite mobs spawning fast around you in all three dimensions.

The toughness + healing power tree for survivability and to use that healing shroud that stealths people in it (and it’s a combo field too ^_^ )

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To me personally, being able to obtain the best gear and complete the toughest dungeons or PvP. I don’t think gear should be the reward in itself but merely a means to an end (higher quality of life, not obligatory to have the best to clear the toughest content, etc.)

At the lower end should be easier solo-content, like Molten Front dailies, and even more challenging solo-content as endgames should have different tiers.

The DR is simply a hindrance for legit players.
It simply acts as an artificial timer for how long you can play.

It limits how long you can stay in a single area. I find that just stupid. Let’s say I’m in a level 40-45 area and I just want to stay around there and it’s only got the same type of creatures in there.

To solve the DR, some would say “Go explore else where, or go ____”.

Why should I do that? I want to be in that area as it would be the appropriate are for me to be in at that level. I don’t want to have to go somewhere else just to have to work around some system that wasn’t aimed at me.

But the entire game is level appropriate, only some drops outside of Orr and even within give gear that’s 4 levels below yours. Think outside the box.

See a lot of us are not talking about “gear” we are mostly talking about crafting mats that mobs drop, you do not get those from killing mobs in low level areas, you get the low level materials from low level areas. If i could acquire those materials in any area then i would not have any issues with DR, but i can’t so i do have a problem.

That’s the way it should be, especially since character level typically outpaces crafting level. You’ll still need jute when you’re getting wool and even cotton (and in my case even silk) drops. Have you tried relogging or entering another map and switching back?

Oh also enemies becoming invulnerable when they have no way to attack the player. Also very annoying. This should only apply to certain enemies, not the random easy ones out in the open world.

This. WoW has that annoying mechanic. If you have the tools and tactical know how you should use it to your advantage, not have things magically go invulnerable (unless it’s a wizard with a temporary invulnerability spell, but that would be legit invulnerability as it would be an ability, and even then ordinary trash mobs shouldn’t have it.

Lol that happened to me before on my elementalist with the unstoppable giant mob outside of the area with the Black Lion Trading Post on the Cursed Shore! I had to attune to wind for most of the fight since I needed the extra speed boost to kite. It is quite a fast boss too and it’s tough enough without hinder immunity.

OT, but want hinder immunities, large HP pools, on demand invulnerability, simple kiting gets me backup, and other unfair advantages? Then rolling a mob is for you! All you have to do is turn in your free will and you’re all set.

In most of these games the warrior archtype is typically the main character while the thief is typically his jealous anti-hero rival who eventually learns to respect him. Now, some stories have the dashing thief hero archtype like Zidane from Final Fantasy IX or Robin Hood, but there are far more Conans than there are Robin Hoods. Warrior is just a star class. Now, sometimes mages have their time to shine like Harry Potter or Twilight Sparkle, but are usually relegated to a supporting character.

As for the video, well, here’s a novel idea: Sometimes you’re just outplayed. There will always be someone out there better than you.

What should be added to the store

in Suggestions

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

they need to add much more style armor items. currently 1 set per armor type just doesn’t cut it.

So here’s my list and what I would willingly pay money for:

1. Cloak (back) designs. ~$2.
2. Various armor skins. ~$2 per piece/$12 whole set
3. Cultural T3. ~ ~$4 per piece/$24 whole set
4. Cultural Weapons skins. ~$4 per skin
5. Dungeon skins (only). ~$5 per piece/$30 whole set
6. Town clothing (a lot of Variety!). ~$5 per set

Those are reasonable prices. Currently, i don’t care what the excuses people give for it, but $500 real dollar conversion for a T3 set is ludicrous and clearly shows they are, as yet, completely insincere about their efforts in the item shop.

I’m surprised that a game as old as EQ2 has all of that and then some in their store. And I’ve spent well over $100 in it whereas I have spent ZERO in GW2’s store. right now, the store and gems are effectively saying “We want your money” and that’s it. It’s useless in its current form and the shop is essentially little more than a very expensive in-house gold seller.

Give us something to do and buy with the shop! And for the love of the motherland, can you please be more reasonable about your pricing!

You aren’t meant to pay for the T3 with real money, maybe a little to get you a long the way, but you could play the trading post and farm vendor trash. Most DE income comes from selling grays, blues, and greens to vendors unless you’re late or unlucky.

In some ways I really would like it. They could do away with anti-exploit NPC invincibility, which is commonly very unfair to honest players.

Hard mode and vanquishing would be pretty cool.

Check out the suggestions forums tomorrow though, I hope to start a nice discussion on 200% map completion so we can have some of these benefits without the need for instancing.

+1 I hate whenever I’m playing (any MMO) ranged and hitting something that can’t reach me only for it to “evade” or “invulnerable” on me =( Sometimes they’ll remain invulnerable yet could punch the air under you and damage you! Talk about ironically screwed up! Also if they can reach you be prepared to see amazing(ly disappointing as you don’t have access to these abilities) speed and incline traversing on their part. Impossibly steep for you to climb, but not only do they climb it, they do it faster than your mount.

Underwater Combat: The issues I have with it

I’m an Elementalist so Whirlpool will be an option once I’ve raised the 40 (!) skill points it costs but that means I can kill one mob every 3 minutes. It’s an improvement I guess, and an infinite one at that but still hardly comparable with my land skill set. Still ANet should have figured out that underwater levels along with sewer levels, slippy slidey ice worlds and reverse the controls power ups are reviled for a very good reason.

Unless that mob is a veteran you’re doing it wrong. You could take out a whole wave with that skill. I like underwater combat, but not tons of things spawning on me (especially when whirlpool is on CD) or extra mobs joining the fight when I only planned on 1 or 2, and lava flow doesn’t activate underwater so no point in getting near whatever is trying to kill me.

Just a question: if you ‘join them’ and become a thief too,
what makes you think that other thief can’t kill you in 2 seconds anymore?

You still have lag, he still picks you…

Wearing glass armor does nothing if the glass canon still shoots first…

This. I was going to mention if there’s one class that obviously shines above the rest then everyone would choose it and therefore skill comes into play anyway. Skill matters, and everyone adapts. Just think about all the people not willing to improve, learn their class, how to adapt, etc. It’s like Chess, you will have plenty of opponents who just think experience or studying one thing will get them far, but the higher the higher you go the more you encounter people who take the game seriously enough to study it in further depth. You have tactics, strategy (what to do when there are no tactics present), openings, endgames, etc.
