This. I bet most of the people complaining here are the very same people on the WoW forums who said, “GW2 is going to be so fun!” Which, when you translate it given the context actually meant, “I don’t like playing a game with pandas in it and Imma gonna go somewhere else!” This game is actually enjoyable and far from a corridor. Sure, zones are instanced, but still big enough to explore without that SWTOR corridor feeling (and don’t even get me started on orbital stations -_- ) Yeah Ord Mantell and Hoth were fun, but most of the planets were, “OMG not this planet again!” whenever I made an alt.

Also, if you ever obtain an unexpected periphery demographic please don’t change in a major way, they’d like the game because of how you made it when you didn’t even think they’d be playing. Think of it like American producers only thinking Americans are watching their stuff, then they have an unexpected worldwide audience, and change accordingly. New audience then says, “This isn’t as good as the previous stuff”, and they flock to Youtube for their entertainment instead. But that’s an entire topic in itself worthy of scholarly study meant for elsewhere.

In short, do things the way you want to. Don’t nerf a class because everyone complains about it, etc.

My female ranger has a wardrobe of like six different coats and six different leggings. Al look more or less nice.
The ones that she wears look quite feminine and i found those well before lvl80, transmuted several times to keep the look.

The only problem i have with some armors is that skirts/dresses are often to large/to wide/ bulging in the front as though the avatar is pregnant.

I like the skirts and dresses, they have a nice bloom to them that has a certain modesty to it that’s usually missing in these games ^_^ Yet at the same time they accentuate their features quite nicely so it isn’t crudely modest like burqas but more decently modest like an Elizabethan dress ^_^

There are also not so modest armor sets too, and there looks like something for everyone.
In fact, pretty “ladies” in this game are everywhere, but those kinds of topics don’t really go down well so I’ll stop here.

Are you kidding?! I have thousands of screenshots of AFK “girls” and not so AFK because the armor helps accentuate them. Heck, I even have some interesting guy pictures too (those were taken for a different reason obviously but a big Norn in pink armor is too picture worthy). The “girl” in the picture isn’t my character (I’m the Asura in blue), but you have to admit “she’s” drop dead gorgeous ^_^ I have a few more pictures like this too but “she’s” one of the best ones I’ve seen so far.

The bosses, and minions need more active skills when facing huge zergs. Things like blowbacks, stuns, freezes, blinds, and increased crit rates. Not just one hit kills.

There needs to be some risks involved, such as higher gear damage, negative cash flow, ie, the boss/minions steal your credits.

The way it is now it is just a big gaudy show where you throw AOE’s and watch the spectacle until it is time to collect your gold.

Some events are not cost effective as it is, especially quests where the mobs continually spawn. Spawn points + repairs sometimes far exceed any silver you’d get from them unless there are enough people to help, but then the quest would scale up anyway making an attempt pointless.

My new thief since lower level characters get more jute than higher and I want to up my tailoring:

I’m the blonde guy in the front =) I know the color scheme says hunter more than thief, but I plan on my thief joining the Vigil and he will have their colors (my elementalist is in the Order of Wispers). I thought about giving my Asura Order of Wisper colors but he just looks really good as is (besides, blood red and black dyes would cost an arm and a leg -_- ) Besides, I like the natural greens and am fortunate enough to find dyes that work together =)

Blood red and black are more thief colors (and necromancers could get away with it too though deep purples and certain greens go well with them too), though thieves could basically get away with anything understated so long as it manages to match :) No hot pink and lime green for the thief.

And people use AoEs, so what? The entire point of AoE is to take out large groups of things (or plant down DoT AoEs like radiation field when you know you’re going to be downed soon so their HP ticks down faster while they stand in radiation and the lava field you talented). Besides, meteor storm has unreliable damage as the meteors randomly strike within a certain radius, it isn’t like each meteor causes damage to everything in the circle.

Make mobs so that they have at least a gram of gray matter with which they can conclude that AoE = bad! So they… Move out of it?! Sounds crazy enough to work, right?

Mobs aren’t players, mobs should stand in the fire because they commit themselves when they’re charging a 3 second knockdown hammer swing or bow move. If mobs split up and pincer the group then it’d blow. For a player to take down a mob they need to press many buttons, most of which are charges that root the player (especially meteor storm and radiation field) whereas mobs simply need to get in melee range if they’re melee and if they’re ranged they aren’t as bad, just lava under where they’re standing and have a shootout with them while dodging after that second and a half they put their bow or gun up.

So I’m sure this has happened to people before, but on occasion I am rewarded for DEs that I actively did not participate in.

It usually goes like this: I’m walking along, looking for the next gathering node/waypoint/vista/jump puzzle entrance what have you, and there will be an event near by, not so near by that I can walk to it in a short amount of time, but it’s out of my way and I don’t feel like going out of my way to participate. So as I march along, the DE long since absent from my map, I will eventually get the “Mission: Success!” pop up on my screen, awarding me a silver and the appropriate reward. On more inane occasions, I’ve been given gold rewards for DEs that I not only did not participate in, but was also entirely unaware was occurring. Is this gonna be fixed?

The usually nifty feature — that whatever zone you’re in, most drops are for your level — this works against you if you’re trying for jute.

You need < lvl 15 cloth armor to drop to salvage. So you best do it with a low-level alt.

Agent Betanga was cool and helped influenced my decision to join the order, but the Charr (again, don’t want to mention names, but those who had the quest know who I’m talking about) was really awesome and actually made me look forward to doing story quest that much more =( Some of his more memorable moments include, “I expect you to make lots of ‘oooooooo’ sounds” (to a fish person, I think I chose the right quest I like those fish people ) and getting our characters drunk to save the pretty lady =(

I came to Kessex Hills (and luckily went to a spawn point practically right on top of the armor merchant). Being low on jute and not wanting to overspend or grind for it. Then, I try salvaging some level 50 apprentice gloves I bought (worth a try even though level 50 stuff doesn’t salvage to jute) but can’t! So this is kind of a two bird with one stone post.

I really need to upgrade my crafting level (looks like somethings don’t scale with us as we level lol!) but jute is getting harder to come by! I try farming lower level Norn regions, but mobs that drop them are hard to come by and where they’re plentiful they drop wool too (will be useful much later when I can actually get past 75 tailoring lol!)

Signed.

As a thief, I need to be on guard for a mob of enemies to spawn, then run in the middle of them and just spam shortbow 2. But when it comes to veterans then I can just forget about it, even if I switch to dagger/dagger and maul on it from 100% HP to death, there have been occasions I got no credit for the kill. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m not running a full class-gannon power/precision/crit damage set, which a lot of players do.

I remember in some other game I would gem evade and some block because I needed to “balance” out my offensive stats! My guild (with IRL friends) was a bit annoyed that I’d roll on tanking gems for my rogue. This was in the Burning Crusade areas and it actually helped quite a bit while leveling and I still had a decent crit chance and hit, but I learned quickly to ditch that and go full offense (meet hit cap, rest into crit) and carried that mindset over here, which in turn isn’t recommended! Still, I think “well, elementalists weren’t designed to be tanks” and went full offense. I won’t even bother with the GM book as 20 talent in an element is as far as I intend to go to have some healing and survivability.

Agemnon.4608

Right now, to get exp, gold, and loot from an enemy, you have to do a certain amount of damage to it to “tag” it. Even if you’ve hit it, if you haven’t done enough damage it won’t count as tagged. This damage seems to be a percentage of the enemy’s HP.

That means that no everyone can get credit for a mob kill. You have to fight over exp and loot by seeing who can do damage the fastest. If you try to use supportive skills, then you will be rewarded with 0 exp, gold, or loot. This encourages everyone to go full damage build and spam AoEs.

It also means that some professions have a MUCH easier time getting loot and gold. Elementalists can just stand back and spam huge AoEs to tag all the mobs, whereas Mesmer, the class with the worse AoE in the game, will struggle to get 50% of the. They’ll have to run into groups and risk dying to try to shatter with illusionary persona, because that’s their only reliable AoE damage. Mobs die so quickly that Chaos Storm won’t do enough damage to tag in Orr.

Tagging changes DEs from a cooperative experience into a competitive experience. Everyone is fighting to do damage to mobs before the others kill it. It’s back to the same old MMO style, where you cringe whenever an Elementalist joins the DE because you know it will be harder to get loot and money now.

I still go into water to slow down mobs and have an AoE heal (I have a couple points talented into water since I maxed out fire and air on master and a +50 healing power armor piece), but that’s only after I do enough damage to ensure I’ll get gold. I agree somewhat with the tagging as someone could hit something once, run away, and still get credit. Sometimes I’m annoyed that I hit something too late or joined an event too late and only get bronze, but it’s no big deal.

I hope rewards will correspondingly increase if this is ever implemented. Some of the events are hard enough as it is and some events still have loads of mobs even if you try soloing it (like that inquest underwater event in the level 50 pirate zone). Some mobs have three second knockdowns, this means you can’t do a thing for three seconds. If you’re an elementalist it’s insta-death unless your mist form activates (takes too long so don’t bet on it) and you can mist towards the water (and even then hope no water mobs are present or whatever’s chasing you can’t swim).

Tailoring because I get extra bag space. Oh, you mean class:

Overall, i’d probably say the Guardian.

They’ve got options that many, many classes do not. They are completely viable healers, tanks, zone control, damage and even condition damage (never, NEVER underestimate burning)

Add to the fact they have access to one of the most powerful buffs, Aegis… I believe overall these guys are #1. They truly can do it all in a number of ways and good guardians in pvp are absoultely disgusting to fight against and EVERYONE wants one in their party.

Yep, role guardian. Everyone should have one eventually.

PVE Down-level Scaling Pains

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Agemnon.4608

The problem with every MMO is that you don’t even have to do squat and mobs are very eager and willing to kill you… despite the fact you didn’t even do anything to them (well you could attack first, which counts as “something” but you don’t have to is the point). “Hey, let’s go kill that guy who did absolutely nothing to us!” But that’s just how these games are. Another thing I hate is mobs having snares and slows. If you’re slowed that makes it much harder to get away. You’re basically guaranteed a death if there’s a pack of mobs you could normally outrun and one of them slows you down.

If elementalists are so weak then why so many of them?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

All I see on here and on the GW2guru forums is how weak elementalist are and how they die if a mob sneezes on them compared to every other profession. If thats the case why are they a dime a dozen? After Warriors and Guardians Elementalists are easily the 3rd most popular class, at least on my server. If they have so many issues why do so many people punish themselves by playing one? Also not to mention they are probably the hardest class to play to its full capabilities. Are all these people just pro gamers who are awesome and can just attunement dance no matter what weapons they are using and own everyone using all spells and utilities to their fullest? I mean I highly doubt people would pick them just to be bad. I have been gaming for a long time and even found them very challenging and hard to play, especially in sPvP.

Are elementalist actually fine at level 80 and can farm just as easily as a Guardian,Ranger, or Warrior using the same minimal effort?

Ahh, the appeal to popularity fallacy. If billions of people thought the world was flat it wouldn’t make it true. I will say that elementalist isn’t as weak as its reputation, though all skills needing to charge gets annoying. Underwater we tend to wreck, especially as fire with the number 2 boiling water AoE (then switch to wind for the single target lightning), earth is good too for bleeds.

Just keep in mind to dodge and that elementalists weren’t designed to be tanks.

Having a hard time targeting

in Players Helping Players

Agemnon.4608

Having PvPed in MMOs for the past decade, I can’t imagine relying on WASD alone to move. I use them in conjuction with holding the right mouse button to be able to have total and extremely quick control over my character.

That said, I do have some issue with the targetting in the game. Not gamebreaking, but it does frustrate me sometimes. Luckily, I can tab target back quickly enough. BUT… I would like it if they made it a little harder to actually lose your target and go targetless.

WASD is garbage for movement and games should just get rid of it as default movement keys already. This is 2012 where mice come standard wit at least a mouse 4 and 5 buttons (mouse 4 is great for left strafing for example). WASD being binded to abilities during beta before I got my Razer Naga worked out really well.

I usually main thief classes but went with an elementalist this time around. I had a human warlock in beta (because Asura wasn’t available) and it was boring. The demon saying, “What!?” all the time was a bit annoying and un-Gothic. Lines like that are great for brawlers, not summoned minions. Although I did like deathshroud. I also had a Charr warrior and it was alright.

I’m going to make a (Human) thief after my elementalist reaches 80 and gets some good gear and maybe an engineer Charr. DCUO has a rifle and gadgets combo, and engineer with a rifle equipped sounds like it’d be much like it, which is why I think engineer will be the star PvP class ^_^ Oh, and here you aren’t locked to a specific weapon too :D

Off topic, but Lady Wi was a character in my Asura story too (Order of Wispers), and she was a favorite in my human beta storyline, yay ^_^

The events trigger when they trigger and when you are nearby you are invited to participate. Except if you get there at the very end, you will generally get some reward. This ensures that people are willing to jump in and participate.

This is part of the MMO experience, it’s a way to make sure people actually participate. I mean, how many people would join in if they weren’t sure if it would be worth it? Not that many I can promise you.

So what the OP is complaining about, maybe a valid concern for him/her but in the larger scale of things I wouldn’t want them to change it because it’s instrumental in getting people to participate.

Let’s be honest…we were told there were over 1500 events to start with. Well, after doing a fair amount of events I roughly see it comes down to: defend this npc, defend this location against x waves, escort an npc. I’ve killed my share of centaurs by now. Anyways 90% of the events are roughly the same type. Understandable but without a generous reward system, people just would start avoiding more and more events because “it’s not worth it”.

Perhaps you’ve hit on a bigger problem. If the game has to reward players for minimal effort, just so they’ll participate, then either the events aren’t interesting enough, or they happen too frequently to be worth caring about.

I don’t really like being rewarded for something I didn’t do, however, if I knew that the event happening was a rare opportunity to participate, I would do everything I could to be a part of it.

It’s like when celebs visit malls, everyone flocks to the area to be a part of the event. It’s because it’s rare, and exciting. I’ve been saying this for weeks, but I think there is simply too much happening on the maps. Too much overlap, too many creatures, too frequent of repeats.

They don’t happen that frequently. I was roaming around the level 35-40 centaur zone and hardly anything came up whereas I teleported to the cold hills to the east and found many more events, and even then it’s hit or miss. I even logged in to an event and the warp point was “contested”. There was no one else around so I had to warp to the Durmand Priory Waypoint, single the obnoxious Norn (I’m an Asura elementalist and fire sword bursted him down I activated before the charge rooted me so I wouldn’t be rooted during combat), and soloed him because no one else was around =(

Elementalist downed state... why?

Probably something to do with the fact they have mist form…

Mist form has probably only saved me 1/4 times I get into ‘Fight for your life’ stance. pretty worthless to me. Enemy still has you locked on.

Sorry to the GW2 fanboys, but in TOR, as a Operative/assassin, if I was low on health, I’d pop my quick stun…get out of combat, then re-enter prepared for a counter attack.

When a rogue cowboy with healing and a wookie or cool British accent spies can’t even save a game you know it’s bad. SWTOR classes were too homogenized (Agent did have a good story though) and was too much of a corridor. I actually liked Ord Mantell and Hoth, but when you play alts and say, “ugh, not this planet again!” for most of the planets and tire of doing dailies you know it’s time to move on.

Though yeah, mist form is mostly worthless unless you can manage to get into deep enough water where you have to swim to the surface, and even then it’s situational and may draw aggro from water mobs.
