Using an example – CoF path 1 can be run in about 10 minutes with a good group.
10 minutes.
I don’t think this is true.
I have literally gone to Jormagg/Tequatl/Shatterer, hit them a SINGLE TIME, and gotten Gold Medal + Chest.
Not sure about non veteran or non champion monsters though.
Well, there’s a difference between getting credit for participating in an event and getting credit for a kill to the point where you’re earning XP for the actual monster being killed and a chance at a drop off the corpse. How many times have you received credit for an event just because you ran through the circled area, or killed a different mob within the event area? Personally, I’ve lost count.
This is true, and honestly in the 400 or so hours I’ve put in this game I’ve spent less than 10 of it in a party with people that wasn’t a dungeon. So I’ve never had to consider what tagging is/isn’t.
Lol @Ahlen,
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I’m cherry picking my favorite armor designs. Those definitely weren’t the community’s favorite picks.
The first one looks pretty good, but the second one is like…they just stuck spikes on it for no reason.
Are you…suggesting that dungeons in GW2 aren’t short enough?
I….what?
I was incredibly disappointed with the lack of variety in a lot of the armor sets in this game. Guild Wars’ armor was so exceptionally impressive to me personally. I had never really seen anything like their armor in other games. Also the fact all the different classes had class defining armor made me feel very set apart from anyone else.
Were their popular armor sets, and did you see them everywhere? Sure, did I care? Not one bit! The armor was so beautiful I loved seeing all the copies!
Now this isn’t to say Guild Wars 2 armor isn’t beautiful. I still feel Guild Wars 2 has some very unique sets (most of them being racial which is kind of a pet peeve of mine).
However, I still have a very special place in my heart for the beautiful equipment of Guild Wars 1
This is of course my opinion, but damn those are some ugly armors.
Someone will say there is no “tagging” in this game.
According to pre-launch developer interviews, players need to do somewhere between 5-10% of the damage necessary to kill a monster in order to receive credit for killing it.
As there are only so many “5-10%” slices to go around, it should be obvious that once you pile more than X players on the same target, someone is going to lose out.
This was a huge problem during the Ancient Karka event. Many players received almost no loot during the entire 2-3 hour battle. Others were receiving drops consistently. In a recent AMA on Reddit, ANet claimed that was a “bug”.
I don’t think this is true.
I have literally gone to Jormagg/Tequatl/Shatterer, hit them a SINGLE TIME, and gotten Gold Medal + Chest.
Not sure about non veteran or non champion monsters though.
Prowler coat, Asura Cultural 2, and CoE are more amazing looking than any light or heavy armor.
Your opinion is noted, and denied.
It’s just yet another thing that shows how Anet is making stuff up as they go along and have no coherant plan for the game.
Picks were level bound on launch, you could only mine ores in maps suitable for your level. I questioned this, and got the answer of “the experience you get from higher nodes is quite a lot so it prevents power levelling”.
Ori nodes, on launch, were also scarce and randomly placed at each server reset in high level areas, this made it a significant effort to do an ori run, therefore defining the value of ori.
Now they have made ori cheap and easy to get AND farmable by low levels (helped by the fact the map is adjaceant to LA).
honestly, can Anet keep ANY plan going longer than a few months? Just stop selling the low level ori picks and there will be no problem. This is clearly some cheap way to encourage people to play the new map (as it doesnt have anything else going for it!)
Because no company or individual ever has accidental oversights. Only Anet. Those kittens. YOU AREN’T ALLOWED TO MAKE ANY MISTAKES ANET!
FT 1 is definitely bad damage. There’s just no real arguing that. Personally I think FT is a pretty bad kit overall. The Toolbelt skill has WAY too long a cooldown, 1 is low damage, 2 is super finicky and not really usable in close range combat.
no they dont. conditions do not come close to direct damage, even on pistols themselves.
And rifle outdamages pistols significantly the vast majority of the time. withough coated bullets is not even close. With coated bullets, rifle does more damage, unless pistols hit 3 times per target.
Are we only comparing Pistol 1 vs Rifle 1? Or Pistol Vs Rifle as a whole? Because as a whole, pistols are more DPS than rifle. Assuming that you’re the only burner/poisoner and you know how to rune.
Turrets are also bad. Feels like half our skills aren’t worth using. Not just “These skills are better” but rather “These skills are not viable”
Example: Rifle turret does the same DPS as 1 stack of bleed with 1400 condition damage. Without overcharge.
Turrets are fine. Except needing to do more damage and take less damage than they do now by a factor of 2.
Rocket boots would be a GREAT gadget with two changes.
Make the Utility skill just launch you backwards (as if using Elixir Gun 4), and make the toolbelt kit a small burst of flame at your feet (Let’s say between 400 and 600 range)
It’d make it less clunky and overall way better.
and to everyone who is saying just chill and make money while playing the game, I got already 100% exo geared in just 2 weeks without even trying. so all that’s left for me is get a legendary, which ill need to pay around 800g which would have been straight out impossible to get out farming mobs.
You keep using this word…I do not think it means what you think it means.
Well ok, you can be a support elementalist, engi or guardian etc and do a lot of group healing.
But it’s not a dedicated healer, and will not keep alive dps who stand in fire etc.
Engineer will.
You can pump out 1500hp/sec if you try on an engi.
Ok, I’ll bite.
How is this done?
Elixir gun 5, Super Elixir, heals for about 400hp/sec base with no +healing. With Kit Refinement (10 points in tools tree) when you switch to Elixir Gun, you put down a Super Elixir.
The Super Elixir spawned by Kit Refinement stacks with the regular super elixir of the elixir gun. That’s 800hp/sec, again with no +healing.
Combined with the toolbelt skill of the elixir gun – 10 seconds of regeneration, (Which is about 170hp/sec)
That’s 970hp/sec.
Super Elixir scales very well with healing power. I’ve gone to the PVP room, and put on 1400 healing, and been able to heal for around 650+650+300 HP/sec with double elixir + regen.
That’s 1600 health/s for 10s. Now obviously unless you REALLY want to heal, that much healing power is a waste, but I think 1000hp/sec is a pretty kitten respectable number, and you can get that with <200 healing power.
Interesting. Doesn’t sound sustainable though. Maybe I’ll give it a go and see how it works!
No, the real challenge is getting people to actually stand in the field that heals them.
More often than not, I will see an injured party member, run and flip my way to them, throw down heals….and then they just run off at 10% health instead of getting healed up.
guess it’s a matter of perspective, I don’t even have two gold! …. (and I do have 2 level 80’s)
think the most I have ever had was about 6… when I once lucked out and had a White Dye drop…. but I don’t mind. I still enjoy playing with no money and have no intention to work to farm more… if I get some I get some.
This sounds more like you’re just bad with gold mate. Run a few dungeons every few days, sell a few things on TP, loot a few things and sell em. Don’t spend the money willy nilly, you can make 20g per week just like that.
The thing about Gadgets, is that Elixirs and Kits are both better overall.
Yes gadgets are useful, but they’re more situational and just not quite as good. Elixirs also receive much better trait support, so Elixir B is almost universally better than Goggles.
Goggles can be better, but ONLY if you really need a stun break.
I do love Rocket boots though.
I want my asura to wear norn female Cultural 3.
Make it happen Anet!
They did, however, take everything I loved. And my brother and sister-in-law.
no offense, but this tells a lot. I know people that are still sticked to the game, and most of them are ~30 or more,. We don’t love the same things in a game.
What I loved in Gw1, and what many “HC” players (for what it means…) loved, was what was different for other games, the intrinsic mecanisms. In comparison Gw2 is oversimplified, and boring (even for the story part…).
Fortunately some still like it, but most don’t.ROFLMKO… I think I was just called old. ;-)
It’s interesting to me that you find GW2 to be oversimplified. I found GW1 to be oversimplified. PvE was a complete joke. Get your heroes together, grab a variation on Sabway or the later flavors and then destroy it. Dungeons were all SC builds or nothing. PvP was the only place there was a real variation. And there was still an awful lot of FotM at work until you got to the truly competitive ranks.
Added to that, the game fostered a community that was in a lot of ways less about community and more about finding someone to look down on. That’s the one thing I don’t miss about GW1 at all.
In any event, I’m not sure I agree that “most don’t.” But let’s not bother with “look at the posts” “not a statistical sample” “players are leaving” “depends where you look” arguments that go nowhere, and just pretend we did.
That’s true, but it was at the end of the game… And even then, you had a choice, you could make other builds, and play with your brain, because the mecanisms were there. In GW2, you don’t have any choice :/
Yes you do, again this is just your own confirmation bias talking. This is grass is greener syndrome at it’s finest. You THINK GW1 had more choice than GW2, because that is what you have already decided.
Reality will not intrude on this delusion that you have imposed on yourself.
GW1 was incredibly simplified compared to GW2.
Do you have a son or daughter? I promise you that in school they have already learned more swears, curses, and obscenities than you can think of off the top of your head.
That may be true – but they didn’t learn it from the Guild Wars 2 forums, that’s one of the points here.
Because sheltering people always ends up with good results right? Yes you should attempt to not curse or be overtly abusive. However going the opposite direction is just as bad, and is just running from reality.
What’s funny is all this time you spent talking about on forums, you could’ve gotten quite a few pieces of ascended gear by now or enough gold/badges/ whatever to invest in it in the future. If you think you need ascended gear now; does that mean you think others need ascended gear as well? Are you the kind of person to reject people without the top-of-the-line gear? Just like how I don’t care what people wear, I don’t think people should either unless they can really help themselves (staying in green, getting carried the way through, while hoarding gold—bad manner). But seriously, the need for ascended gear now is what is killing you guys; you do not need it now and it hasn’t been a game changer for anyone. And as they reported they are going to make it a lot more available in the future. I’m just going to wait 1-2 years from now and bump this thread up so people can be embarassed on how much ascended gears did not become a starting point for a endless progression theme for this game overall.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with how much or little ascended gear actually affects character power; it’s the principle of the thing and how it makes people feel about playing.
I have over 500 hrs played. I don’t have *any** exotics yet.* Never really planned on it. Ascended gear and the fractals doesn’t impact my actual gameplay one bit, but what mattered to me was the principle of a capped-stat system and the knowledge that my characters would always be approaching the top grade and always be right where I left them in relationship to the power structure.
What’s important is how a power-creep gear treadmill – no matter how slight the incline is set – makes me (and others) feel about playing. It makes me feel like I’m always losing ground, and so gives me a sense of being 2nd rate and makes my time in the game feel useless. That’s ultimtely how I felt in every MMORPG I played before GW2, why I left them, why I stopped playing for a few years, and why I bought GW2 – because I thought (mistakenly) it would have a capped stat/gear/level system.
WHAT? Seriously? Do you even actually play the game…? In 500 hours you should have at least accidentally gotten full exotics.
Actually no…. I want the game I bought which advertised itself as being a different kind of MMO with horizontal progression and no gear treadmill. Anets fault.
Show me explicit advertising that there would be only horizontal progression. Basically, it’s GW1 players whining that GW2 is not GW1. If you want GW1 so badly, go play that!
The fact that a 3rd party site has to be used for groups is disgusting.
Well ok, you can be a support elementalist, engi or guardian etc and do a lot of group healing.
But it’s not a dedicated healer, and will not keep alive dps who stand in fire etc.

Orr is solo ezmode for full exotics 80s.
Or Engineer’s in blues/greens.
Southsun Cove is nowhere near as threatening as Orr and you can do just fine solo there if you’re not pulling Veteran Karka every few seconds. Some of the best farming in the game is there and it’s actually a pretty beautiful, relaxing environment. Feels just like I imagined something called the “Lost Shores” should. I have no clue what you meant by infusion, absolutely nothing outside of the Fractals use Agony.
Orr is (and is meant to feel like) a brutal nightmare in comparison. You’re not supposed to be able to navigate it safely alone, and the atmosphere should be oppressive. It’s the closest thing the game has to the instanced runs in GW1 that you’d be suicidal to attempt alone even with bots.
That said, my thief can sneak around Orr and mine the nodes pretty effectively without any company. Take stunbreaks and stability. :P
But…Orr is easy.
Seriously, I’ve posted in tons of threads about this. Nothing about Orr is exceptionally hard. And the mob density is GREAT! I get so much loot just moving through the zone it’s ridiculous.
just confused as to why you think that a dual wielding character should be penalized for wielding 2 weapons. Or from the other side why should 2 handed weapon users be rewarded for only using 1 big weapon?
I’d read this last night and I considered making another point by point response, however, I think most salient points have already been made for both sides. So I’ll simply say that I think the essence of the discussion comes down to this statement above in quotes.
You perceive the price as a punishment, hence your word ‘penalize’.
I perceive things as Opportunity Cost. If something costs more than the effort to get it, I wouldn’t get it. If I can maximize my spending power somewhere, then I would do so wherever I can.
Much earlier in the thread, I’d asked the question, though nobody answered it, “If the price of weapons went to 500 tokens for 1h weapons and 1000 tokens for 2h weapons, wouldn’t this be fair? Would you be happy with it?”
I still do wonder in complete honesty, can people answer this question? What if the cost was 5,000/10,000? Etc. etc.
You’re kind of rambling here, but yes if 1h cost 5,000 and 2h cost 10,000 it would be fair.
Well ok, you can be a support elementalist, engi or guardian etc and do a lot of group healing.
But it’s not a dedicated healer, and will not keep alive dps who stand in fire etc.
Engineer will.
You can pump out 1500hp/sec if you try on an engi.
Your opinion is ugly!
Divinity is probably the best rune set, for any class at any time.
You can be a healer or dedicated tank, don’t let the forums or game lie to you.
Trinity still exists, it’s just not easy or hardcoded.
Absolutely.
Also, if you don’t have 50%+ exotics the moment you hit 80 (Karma gear) you’re doing it wrong. Step up your game.
people quitting the game over ascended gear is AMAZING to me. Yea, they said they didnt want to make the game a grind like WoW, but when people complain that there isnt enough content in a game… thats “free”… and they try to do something about it people still complain. Its a lose lose for Anet. Stop complaining. I completely understand your exotic gear isnt top tier anymore but you know what? congrats, we have more content to work with. IF you truly love the game youll understand its required to make the game live, just stop being a baby about it
You know what? It requires a special mindset to consider a +5 to stats “content”!
Don’t worry though. That special mindset will eventually be the majority once the rest of us leave.
I really hope that Anet’s metrics look a lot different than what can be found on other gametracking sites. One stupid mistake should not hurt a great game as much as this and I am one of those in a holding pattern waiting for Anet to fix that horrible mistake!
Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you leave. It doesn’t matter if I leave!
Hopefully, anet will realize their mistake and add more vertical progression.
The “Horizonal progression” crowd is most likely such a teeny tiny minority in the game, and they’re also the people who hate the gem shop. So why should anet care if they ALL quit?
Real sick of people blaming gem shop for their inadequacies as players.
It’s fun.
/end
Someone got socially engineered.
Wait till you need to get two legendaries because you use two pistols. But the materials are the same as one 2h legendary for each.
That seems pretty fair to me :P
I don’t get how anyone can compare WoW grind to any sort of ‘grind’ in this game. Yeah it took me five times doing lvl 10 fractals to get my 2 ascended rings, but it didn’t feel like it was a grind, I actually enjoyed it. Yeah you see the same maps here and there but it sort of alternates. But it never once reminded me of the games I had to kill 5000 of the same monsters to get a weapon drop, then grind another monster 50000 times to get that weapon to +10 to even COMPETE with people in pvp.
I admit they released this new tier rather poorly, and didn’t implement a better means to get ascended gear. Lots of people simply hate that they have to do only this dungeon to get on par with the top players. Perhaps if they implemented far more ways to get the gear, and all the gear actually being available… maybe there would be less of a problem here.
I’ll just be waiting for the day when every piece of ascended gets released, and everyone runs into that wall and it will be back to it was on day one. I just hope they do it right from now on.
For real.
I’ve played games where the best gear had a 1/10000 drop rate. And sometimes you need 4 of them.
People who complain about grind in GW2 seriously make me laugh. GW2 is the least grindy MMO to ever exist from my experience. It just seems so sheltered and soft to complain about it here.
The great thing about a light field is that its blast finisher is Area Retaliation. And Engineers have plentiful blast finishers.
3s AoE retaliation versus 1.2k AoE healing per blast.
I’m not sure there’s a debate here, merely pointing out how one dwarfs the other.
Given how retaliation scales and stacks duration and engineers can trivially drop 2-4 blast finishers in rapid succession, I’m actually in favor of the retaliation. It’s pretty rare to both need to suddenly heal 5k and have the capacity to coordinate it with all cooldowns up. Whereas big retaliation is something that is always useful for the group unless you’re totally braindead.
I’m not saying a water field in our arsenal woudn’t be nice, but a light field shouldn’t be underestimated.
If you’re using blast finishers on light over fire or water, you are doing it wrong.
100% wrong.
Am of the opposite opinion – GW2 is probably the most ‘balanced’ of any MMO I’ve played.
I’m with you on the servers, in hind-sight it looks like this would have been a better plan.
Each zone is a server, when you go to a Zone, lets say Queensdale, everyone in GWs’2 is on that server zone. When you hit the player limit for the zone, it goes to an overflow server for that zone, there could then be several overflows. This would make it more like GW’s 1, with one world server.
This way all players from all servers would be able to play together and I bet if you bunched them all up like that, all zones would be alive for a looong time to come, several would have overflows 24/7.
All players from all servers can already play together for anything but WvW. The only thing home server decides for you is WvW – that’s it.
I feel the need to put reasons because saying a class is “OP” doesn’t give enough detail.s OP can mean a thousand things.
1. Mesmer – So much utility/escapes combined with great DPS.
2. Thief – Way to much burst damage with that one build combined with the amount of stealth they receive and dodging.
3. Guardian – great survability and support combined with great DPS. One of the few classes that feels like a non holy trinity class. It is not OP, but actually should be used as an example of how other classes should feel.
4. Ranger- Though boring, they can do amazing DPS. Their entangle elite needs some…work also.
5. Warrior- amazing Burst dps, although it can be easily countered. They can only do DPs however, hence why it is #5
6. Elementalist- My only problem with ele is their amazing escapes. If they want to run, they can run. I dont feel this is overpowered, but rather how other squishy classes should be modeled after. Not too much DPs, but just the right amount combined with great escapes to get out of sticky situations.
7. Necros- Every time i fight one, i dont feel them. Minons are easy to counter and the DoTs can be easily removed
8. Engineers- who would’ve thought engineers would be put as least OP in the engineer subforum. I’ve played with all the classes, and it isn’t so much that this class is OP or UP, but rather there is no variety. Their DPS specs are good, however they are easy to counter. So one DPS spec, nades, sticks out the most. Turrets need more viablity in the field. Their long CDs and non mobile state make them undesriable. Engineers can be amazing support, but have litttle to no dps. They can be amazing bunker, but again have little to no dps.
I actually kind of agree with this list.
Though Necro/Engi is a pretty gray area on which is more powerful than the other I think.
And the tiers would be pretty close together (Except Mesmer and guardian, which are such powerful classes that I believe they stand above the rest)
Sure , some people that dont go to event get chest ok, and others that looted like 2 or 3 chest get another chest, and some people who only lot the normal chest, and not get the email, will complains as always cause these unfair.
So what now?
At long as everyone gets at least one, it’s remotely fair.
There is not one Engineer themed medium outfit in the game as far as i know – not one.
Ive just hit 70 on my female Asura Engineer and Im sooo fed up of looking like a butch pirate – and the only alternative is getting a ranger or thief selection – you think you have it bad OP!
I wear the prowler coat + karma shoulders/gloves and the most magnum looking pistols I can find.
It’s not engineer, but at least I can look like a cowboy.
Elixir B, Elixir C, Elixir Gun
Refined kits, formula 409
Use pistol+shield
If you want to give out boons instead, use bomb kit and stack Hoelbrek/Strength/Pirate/+might duration runes. Use bomb 2 + BoB + Shield 4 to drop 6stacks of might for 39s on your party (assuming they’re smart enough to stay relatively close by) Combined with HGH you can keep your party at 8-11 stacks of might all the time.
If they changed burn and position to stack intensity instead of duration, engineer would automatically be fixed.
:(
Bring Pistol back up to pre BWE3 levels! DO IT ANET.
People find anything to whine about.
Be happy ANet even lets you play this game.
You’re lucky they even responded to you.
ANet is obviously a perfect company who never screws anything up and treats their players as if they were real human beings, instead of game-addicted piggy banks.
If they say you didn’t meet the requirements, I think it’s quite obvious you are just lying and never even participated. After all they have mountains of data to justify everything they do or don’t do.
PS – I feel for you guys, kinda. ANet seems to be proving to the world that they are either wholly inept, or in extreme disharmony over recent top-level decisions.
“Customers should be lucky that companies even deign to cater to them!”
- Said no good businessman ever.
While that’s true, Ahlen, the scream’s duration outlasts a single roll. You’d need two back-to-back rolls to tank the whole thing from start to finish. Granted, it can be done and I do it when necessary, but just clarifying.
As to the main topic, this 270-degree scream has been this way since launch. I always felt this uber scream would be better suited for the HK, and that CR should have a better version of his leap more like the Graveling Scavengers.
Half the scream should also not kill you though. Also HK has a scream too afaik? I don’t really pay attention and just zone out on these fights, not like you can die on them.
Or is it GE that has the other scream..
I have a guild mate who didn’t participate in Lost Shores in even the slightest way – got a chest.
And another that has gotten 3 total.
I’m thinking they should of just scanned their entire accounts DB and mailed one to every single account. Sure some people would of gotten multiple, but at least it would of been SLIGHTLY more fair.
