I was under the impression it was actually 270.
No, no, and even more no.
Any engineer that doesn’t use turrets.
Because they’re awful.
4 necros with epidemic and a burn engi.
See, I had gotten over not getting anything from the event.
And then this happened, and friends/guildmates got mailed chests, and including people who had done the event not once, but twice (getting a total of 3 chests)
And then they decide to hand out new chests, and I still don’t get one lol. The wound had finally closed, and then was wrenched back open and had salt poured in.
It’s annoying.
Why do some people like vertical progression? IMHO, it’s because they are hard-core players who know they will get the best weapons/armor sooner that most, and will be able to grief the “casuals” who haven’t. Catering to this crowd is catering to the worst in the community.
This is an incredibly biased statement. I can only assume that you have played a previous game and had bad experiences, or that you have no background at all and are just repeating what others have told you.
I enjoy vertical progression myself – I want to always see my character improving, having something to strive for to make my character better. If character progression completely stops, I have no interest in a game. This includes both multiplayer AND singleplayer games.
For people who ONLY enjoy horizontal progression, do you also go through life with no goals? Do you not strive to get that bigger paycheck? To improve your living situation? Your relationship status?
Life is vertical progression.
Engineer pistol 1 needs to be buffed a little (3s bleed instead of 2s, maybe 10-20% damage increase) but other than that their pistols are more interesting.
I have a warrior and it feels pretty useless compared to my engi. It can do more damage, especially burst, but it’s utility is absolutely awful compared to engi.
Losing 50% utility for a 20% DPS gain isn’t that great imo. (Random numbers, do not represent reality)
Interesting that people who didn’t even show up to the event got chests, while some who did didn’t.
Jormag is how I finish daily. Killing him and all the ice crystals is either 4 or 5 of your events for the day.
Simple answer: To combat inflation.
She’s broken us a couple times.
Killing her fixes it every time for us.
I want something that looks mechanical for my engineer
At least asura racial looks somewhat like it. I’m not sure why Zojja armor is light armor when she’s an engineer.
The CoE Dungeon armor would probably work for you then.
The shoulder looks incredibly stupid though lol
But yeah the chest is nice, combined with asura cultural 2

The only turret I ever liked was flame. The toolkit skill is really nice, and the overcharge is good for blast stealth finishers and of course blind.
I run around with 20k hp and 2700 armor, 3100 attack and 1500 condition damage (hooray for near permanent 14-18 stacks of might)
I think someone did the math a long long time ago, and toughness gives you about 3.4% damage reduction per 100 against direct non condition damage sources.
Fun fact… they didn’t stick in a gear treadmill. They added a step between exotics and legendaries to fill the time gap in between and to open the door to tons of lateral progression.
Fun fact, they added a gear treadmill that broke pre-game statments like this (from their lead dev):
“We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
You now have to hop on to a gear treadmill (a treadmill which currently breaks another one of their pre-game promises that you can play the game how you want) if you wish to remain just as powerful, pre-release prestigious gear meant cosmetic, if they just wanted to fill a space between exotic and legendary then it would of been cosmetic, the stats on a legendary were the same as an exotic.
They didn’t fill a space, they created an end game gear treadmill, because of whining / failure of tPvP.
Do you feel that asceneded gear is mandatory?
Do you feel that someone who’s fully equipped with can destroy you in WvW?
Serious questions. It is not mandatory currently, when it expands to more slots / has higher tiers of infusions, then yes it will be mandatory if you want to be competitve in WvW.
It still however breaks what they sold the game on, read the quote again, it states all of it is opitional and those who don’t chase this prestigious gear will still be just as powerful, that is now untrue.
Furthermore it lowers the quality of PvP, because it increases the gear gap (again not a huge problem at present but it will be as more slots / infusion tiers are added), Anet themselves have stated gear differences are detrimental to good PvP, so congrats they are making WvW worse.
It also introduces other problems, GW2 was the perfect game for those who like alts, those who can’t play much or come back from a long break, ascended gear has made this less so and it will only get worse as they add more ascended gear.
If someone is beating you because of the couple of stat points ascended gear has, it’s not the gear.
Can someone explain to me why Ascended gear is such a big deal? I mean, did a couple of rings and backpack really obliterated this game? Is this game that fragile? And we don’t know how armors are acquired, either. How can they break the game when they’re not even in yet?
Here’s what I understand from Ascended gear.
- Slightly better than Exotic, slightly worse than Legendary. Mostly a negligible difference in PvE and WvW. If a handful of stats is making you lose at WvW, I think you’re doing something wrong.
- No upgrade slot. Which means less versatility than Exotic gear. If armor continues to not have upgrade slots, then we make use of our Runes with special effects on them. This makes them slightly worse than Ascended gear depending on the type of runes you prefer to use.
- Has Agony resistance and takes Agony increasing infusions. This is only relevant in Fractals. People are crying because they can’t get ascended gear because they don’t play Fractals. Why do you want a stat restricted to a mode you don’t play?
Then people are saying that Ascended makes Exotics obsolete, except we don’t know how we get Ascended armors? Maybe we use Exotics to craft Ascended. Who knows?
The problem is not the degree of progression they’ve introduced with Ascended gear. The problem is that they have committed themselves to vertical progression. Vertical progression “progresses” by periodically raising the power-level. This won’t stop, ever, and you will find that if you don’t hop on the treadmill at some point, you will not be able to play the new content. That’s the way all WoW-like games work. You can ignore it for a time, but eventually the difference between you and the environment will simply be too great for you to play. Let me repeat it since I see so many posts on the insignificance of the stat increase: The degree of vertical progression with Ascended gear does not matter in the slightest; what matters is the introduction of vertical progression.
As someone who loves both horizontal and vertical progression: Yay.
Seriously, some of us like having something to strive for in games.
I haven’t looked at anything recent, but at least as of ~ one month after release, Mesmer was the least played class, followed by Necromancer, then Engineer, according to a census.
Ahaha…..AHAHAHAHA
No.
Because ascended gear is so much more powerful it makes the game unplayable if you don’t have it.
^ I’m with this guy. I don’t use speedy kits, between Elixir B, Throw Elixir B, and Elixir H I generally have all the swiftness I’ll ever need. Besides, I’d rather have Static Discharge or Kit Refinement than rely on speedy kits.
Is Toolkit stronger than Flamethrower? DMG-wise? I couldnt test it yet. I can see that Tool does have a lot of utility. It’s good PvP. How is it in PvE?
If you’re powercrit? Against a single target? Yes, way stronger.
Guild hopping isn’t a good mechanic. Not sure why that was instituted. I don’t hop. But thats my choice. We have several that do and we’re okay with it since its part of this game.
But, would rather see it changed if given the choice.
There’s no raiding, or things requiring large numbers of people at once, so guilds exist only to socialize, and as an easy access LFG.
Do coated bullets apply the bleed to every target the touch? I know the “explosion” part of the pistol doesn’t spread bleed. But if the bullets spread bleed as they pass through targets that’s a whole different story.
Every target the bullet hits directly yes.
Also the sharpshooter bleed is aoe.
What about incendary powder, do you think the ICD is per bullet, or calculated on the crit.
If you shoot one bullet and it crits 10 targets, do all 10 get the burn, or only the original target.
Toolkit really needs to replace Box of Nails with something. Its just…ew. Cripple and bleed is great, but 1 second cast time, and they can just run away from the pitiful area it covers? And smack, whack, and thwack? Really need to be replaced by Throw wrench, or something better then “bad damage and vuln, bad damage and vuln, good damage on a 1 second cast time”. Prybar, Gear shield and magnet are great though.
Ah ha! but if you have kit refinement (I never leave home without it) it spawns a Box of nails instantly when you switch to toolkit, which gives you time/space to cast another box of nails ontop of it!
I have no idea why people say coated bullets are a must. Its really not that good unless you are fighting AIs
Mesmer Illusions, Ranger pet, necro pet, Other Engi turrets, Guardian spirit weapons.
There are a lot of things that you have to shoot through pretty often in PVP.
Coated bullets is a must.
can just take a kit.
Good players will avoid most kits fairly easily. Grenade kit and bomb kit are super easy to see coming/dodge unless they’re touching you at the time.

I actually like Trahearne.
Elixir gun exists for Kit Refinment and Super Elixir. 4 is super situationally good.
Plus what are the plans for the turrets?
Turrets? Yes please! And if you are going to do something with them sometime in the future; please also consider the turret models to show ‘racial diversity’.
That way an Asura would have turrets resembling Asura technology, Sylvari would have turrets resembling Sylvari ‘technology’ (naturology?) etc. etc.
Still, it’s good to see the Engineer getting some potential attention. Maybe someday I can pick mine up again… It’s just that the current (technologically inferior as per Asura standards) turret models just don’t cut it for my Asura…
The most important part is to make it so turrets don’t do half the damage my skills do.
Personal burn ticks – 660-750 (depending on might)
Flame Turret ticks – 320?
He does make some good points.
One of the first things I noticed was that unlike GW1, when you open the guild screen, it doesn’t open to the roster. I like to quickly check if anyone’s online and have max info on them. The roster is the best one for that. So I didn’t even check anymore.
Also for some reason the chat function seemed more active in GW1. Not sure why that is. But this whole representing thing without limit seems a bit counterproductive to me as well.
Wait, your guild menu doesn’t open to a roster? Mine does.
Push G, see exactly who is online and who isn’t, every time.
…because those that aren’t upset are playing the game..
^ False (or indeed total lack of) logic.
I know many people that were unhappy with certain aspects of the game, the majority of which did not post on the forum, but neither are they happily playing the game, they are playing other games, some got refunds.
Which is in part the reason for this thread, when some idiot comes out with “vocal minority” garbage they base it on utterly false assumptions such as the “silent majority” disagree or that anyone still playing the game is totally happy with it.
If you think the only people who for example thought all the bugged DEs for the first couple of months were a bad thing were the minority who posted on it on the forums and that everyone else thought it was absolutely fine, you are gravely mistaken, as is anyone that uses the term “vocal minority” in a similar context.
We’ll take your anecdotal evidence under advisement.
You can’t play around with builds and gear in Guild Wars 2?
Are we playing the same game?
As for GW1…Nostalgia is a powerful drug.
A class is only as squishy as you invest into toughness and vitality.
sigil of strength + grenade kit. People are really never gonna leave grenade kit now if we get stats + sigil. I guess they could always fiddle with the weapon damage to keep it in line. Either way looking forward to that.
Let’s see some pre-nerf Pistol 1 in action.
Nice of TC to show up at YB’s fort right as FA is taking it.
That’s not suspicious at all.
Step two is to get the weapon stats to apply to kits as well. We felt sigils was the more important first step because it creates build diversity. Flamethrower with sigil of air? Yes please.
Yay
We are working to make sigils work with kits. Our intention is to push this as soon as possible. Hope that helps.
Jon
It does, but it still makes it feel like weapons are pointless to a kit engineer.
I could wear a level 1 white pistol and it wouldn’t matter to my DPS at all if I was in kits. THAT is what is the most disappointing.
The pry-bar, shield and pull offers a lot of utility. Especially the pull, with its massive range. I hear engineers love it in WvW.
The first two skills aren’t that great right now.
Disagree entirely. The AoE cripple/bleed is pretty nice. Also the damage scaling/numbers on 1 are incredibly high for power builds.
Even if destroyer was damaging me + the other person during shield down phase it doesn’t matter.
As Engi I just use refined kits and elixir gun. Everytime shield is down I put down TWO healing fields that tick for 450hp each, along with 13 seconds of regeneration.
So that’s 450+450+181 HP/sec healed the entire duration of the shield down, everytime.
The boss is still boring and stupid. A good idea executed badly.
Kids these days don’t know what a grind actually is.
Also, devs have said that Legendary items will always be best in slot.
There’s not need to be anal about the OP’s words choice. What (s)he meant is clearly that (s)he believes forums to be a statistically valid sample of the whole community and therefore to be relevant in determining the community’s reaction to any ArenaNet action.
You may rightfully agree or disagree with the OP but if you argue about the words choice you are wasting forum space and showing little reading comprehension skills.
And by the way I agree with her/him. It might not be the most accurate sample ever, but it surely gives a true enough idea of the community feelings that ArenaNet should take them seriously.
There is no way the forums is an even remotely good sample of the playerbase.
Can’t afk shoot anymore? How horrible!
The problem is his ridiculously high HP, genius.
The truth is the people on the cannons are supposed to jump down on the floating platforms avoiding the periodic “into the lava” knockbacks to get close to the boss, DPS a little jumping back and forth as needed, then going back up to the laser to activate it again (laser takes 15s to break the shield then 15s later it’s back up) and repeat that until victory.
Now, what can go wrong here?
- Falling into the lava and getting killed with very little hope of getting rezed cause the place hurts.
- Walking from faaaar away to come back to the fight.
- Walking through the lair of the ultimate life form : the Champion Destroyer Crab. Run for your lives! Thank god this monster doesn’t try to take over the world or else we’ll all be doomed.
Yeah 15s of DPS is worth it!
They should just make the shield stay down for 1 minute, maybe 1.5m.
On Engi I rip through Orr like a fat guy through a buffet.
Seriously.
I don’t know why people complain about Orr, on Engi I can solo some champion events by myself (Though obviously it takes some time)
@ OP
Less and less? hell yea you’re pretty right, it forces even when it doesn’t mean to due to FAST and uncontrolled spawns, say I’m runnin in Orr, ppl pop a message in MAP chat sayin: hey lyssa’ temple got like 3-4 events running, now… I’m kinda far but I can still foot it, keep in mind all those zones are contested so there’s no other way.I’m trying to make my way through the crowded waters full of zombies and finally make it to the beach, hey look I could go this way there’s even a skill point and… w8… there’s a dead guy there… press cmd
Just how? HOW am I supposed to survive THAT? when there’s not even an event running?? and I’m an engineer? HOW??
Something like that would be easy to clear, and I’m an engineer. That’s more of a L2P issue.
And not to keep harping on it, but this is an MMO. The most solo friendly MMO I have ever seen.
Fixing Elixir C looks like a fairly nice bug fix to me. Definition of “major” being a little murky.
Another pistol legendary would be nice. The idea of using Quip already gives me headaches. The sound effects would drive me completely insane after only days.
Assuming no other damage source than agony, they’re both equally likely to die. But the issue is healing back up again afterwards. If one guy has 22k max HP and is reduced to 10%, he has nearly 20k HP he has to heal back up again. The other guy with 13k max HP only has to heal less than 12k HP to be full.
Lol, how are you not getting this.
If person A has 20k HP and is taking 1000 damage/second
If person B has 10k HP and is taking 500 damage/second
And both heal 500 hp/second, what’s going to happen?
I use both P/S and P/P fairly regularly depending on the fight, and both are good. I don’t know how you could consider rifle having more utility than pistol though, it (rifle) has more damage against a single target (unless you’re abusing coated bullets, then pistol DESTROYS rifle in DPS).
Educate me. I don’t know what you mean by Coated Bullets Pistol beating Rifle for single target DPS.
And against multiple targets, I thought Coated Bullets only explodes ONCE on your target and then continues going in a line? That doesn’t seem like a big damage difference to me.
I’m really not understanding, even with your post. How can I get usefulness out of Pistol than Rifle or Kits? The only thing I see is an additional Blast Finisher from shield…
(And furthermore, on the subject of the thread, are Tankcat and Nades our only options for Fractals that are efficient?)
On-topic:
I run pistol might stack, with Elixir gun and refined kits, Double super elixir is incredibly utility for fractals (800+ hp/sec for everyone is INCREDIBLE)
Off-topic:
If an enemy is against a solid object, like say a wall, the coated bullet will pierce the enemy, damaging and applying any on-hit or debuff, and then hit the wall and explode, doing it’s damage again and applying the debuffs again.
I’m not 110% on this, I have seen it in action many times and used it myself, but I can’t say “I am definitely right on this”. It may just be graphical and not actually doing the secondary hit. When I get off work I’ll do a more thorough test.
I’ve also noticed it when striking large destructable objects, like the eggs during the escort quest in Cursed Shores.
