I find it more difficult to think of skills that aren’t gap-closers for warriors.
Man that never happens. Something must be wrong with the game.
It’s okay. I’ve been watching this same cycle in a different game as well. It, oddly enough, also happens right before an expansion release. It’s really weird in that it’s like a break up. People have problems recognizing that they’re bored with a game and move on, so they start picking fights until they can flame out. Just some quirk of psychology, I guess.
Our fabulous human brains are to blame. They slowly bleed the enjoyment out of things to drive us to acquire NEW things.
If nobody else is applying burn or poison, then P/P is way more damage than rifle, and more utility.
I would argue that p/p doesn’t have more utility. But the main reason I quoted you is that in practice, p/p is rarely more damage than pistol when you’re playing with 4 other players.
Many classes apply burning and bleeding as incidental damage and just one person doing that can really destroy our condition damage output. It’s much, much safer to play with a Rifle and stack power because of this.
In my personal experience, I rarely run into another player applying burns on a long term duration, and almost never run into anyone using poison.
I use both P/S and P/P fairly regularly depending on the fight, and both are good. I don’t know how you could consider rifle having more utility than pistol though, it (rifle) has more damage against a single target (unless you’re abusing coated bullets, then pistol DESTROYS rifle in DPS).
For debuffs, the pistol wins pretty much hands down. It also allows use of a shield for even more control/defense, and a nice blast finish for combos on fire and water fields.
Ah yes, and last but not least – I vastly prefer condition damage, especially longish duration ones, because it allows me to apply my damage, and then switch to kits to use their skills while my conditions continue to damage things. Which rifle doesn’t really provide (Yes the bleeds on 3, but that’s not very much in comparison to Pistol 2/4)
At the end of the day DPS isn’t the most important thing, but the overall package that you bring to the group. (dat refined kits + elixir gun, mmmmmm good)

They should just make it so completing an exploration mode counts as completing story mode for progression.
That way people with alts can just move along, while leaving the option for people to gather to complete story for just that – story.
In the strictest of terms, the number of people who post on the forums is a minority of the game population as a whole. The forums do provide a modest, self-selected sampling of the player population, but so do fansite forums, twitter and facebook.
^^ All of which sites have numerous players complaining about the game…. Why cant you guys just take it from the players themselves…. Do you not think we hear other peoples opinions of the game while in party chat doing an instance/event/ect?
lets take some expamples from face book (theses posts are one after another..not scattered in different topics)
“Stephan Nitschmann: Really nice feature but I’m getting tired waiting for a better gold/gem balance. One month ago it was around 20 silver. Now it’s 136 and no end in sight. Seems like a hyperinflation. :-(

Casual gamers have no way of generating enough in-game gold for gems at these prices, so the only way for them to get gems is with real-world money. In other words, it punishes casual gamers quite severely.

People who enjoy the game, don’t come out and complain about it. Therefore you don’t notice them.
Get it through your heads, the overall reception of guild wars 2 is positive, while the overall feedback is negative. Because people who have a negative opinion are more likely to bring up their real or perceived slights.
engineer doesnt need a total rework, not even a partial one. it’s fine as it is, it just needs bugfixing and a way to get sigils and weapon dps working on kits.
I’d like to see all rifle traits moved to the explosives tree, rename it something else.
I’d also like to see the rifle skills reworked some. 5 should be a blast finish instead of a leap finish. 3 Needs a slighty larger range and better aim’ing mechanics.
I’d love if 3 was a cone overlay like you see in games like League of Legends for some skills.
I haven’t really played since Assassin’s Creed 3 and Black Ops 2 came out, and I don’t even play those two games anymore. I feel completely unmotivated to play GW2 lately. I try to create a new character and get so bored I can’t get past level 10. I feel no reason to play my 80 Necro
It’s almost like you played a game a lot and then you got tired of it.
Man that never happens. Something must be wrong with the game.
You all forgot the Black Lion Trading post being fully stocked with Wintersday items!
- Unidentified holiday red dye
- Unidentified holiday green dye
- Unidentified holiday dye pack
- Two costumes that will take up twelve spaces in bank storage
- Toymakers chest with candy, snowballs, tonics, a chance for a holiday hat and gloves, rare weapons skins and minis (weapon skins < 5% chance, minis < 1% chance)/smh
I hope I’m wrong about all of that.
God forbid a company try to make money off a product they aren’t charging you a monthly fee for and continue to release FREE CONTENT FOR.
Those sons of kittenes.
Whilst the majority of the game can be soloed it is definitely getting less solo friendly especially with loot tables for FOTM and I think other dungeons being clearly different and yielding significantly more high yield loot than in the open world or in WvW.
This makes it look like anet is favouring dungeon runners. Why?
It’s not getting less solo friendly, it’s getting more group friendly.
This returns to the original point of “If you’re going to play an MMO, why are you trying to play it like a single player game”
More people = more reward for coordination (Dungeon runs)
Less people = more reward for dedication (Farming)
Aside from ascended gear, you can get the exact same statistical gear playing solo as you can from running dungeons or fractals.
They have also stated they will be adding more ways to get ascended gear, further reinforcing their support of solo players.
That’s some fancy mental gymnastics you got there OP.
Carry on with your delusions sir.
I never understand these sort of threads…
if you don’t enjoy playing with others, why play an MMO? Pick something like skyrim instead, there you have all the fun of a big pretty explorable world without the need to group
Then perhaps you are unfamiliar with MMO’s. In every MMO I’ve played you were able to solo all content minus instances very easily. Not only solo in terms of leveling, but more importantly solo in terms of farming. The farming aspect is very important in an MMO as that is how you maintain yourself in the game. GW2, in terms of stated objectives supports the solo player as well as those who like to group with others. The problem is that as you cross the straits of devastation you find the content less and less solo-friendly. Karma farming depends on whole areas becoming non-contested; good luck doing this without a group of players. See, the problem is there aren’t always players around and the content was developed presupposing there would be other players around. This is an area GW2 needs work and it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that it is an MMO. It needs work around being more solo-friendly because it is an MMO.
Solo is supported in GW2 more than almost any MMO I have ever seen or played. To the point of insanity. Seriously, the VAST majority of the game can be solo’d.
I’d rather go with a bad group than a super ultra rushrushrush efficient omg too slow hurry up skip everything group.
I love how tab targets the thing furthest away from me.
No opinion one way or the other, but in regards to the personal story, either it can be soloed or it can’t. If you can’t complete it solo, then it’s not solo-friendly. And you can’t.
So because 1% of the story quest can’t be completed solo (Killing Zhaitan) and you have to actually spend 20-30 minutes in a group of 5 people, it’s the end of the world? And it’s not solo-friendly? I don’t buy that.
If you want a 100% solo game, don’t play an MMO.
Total rework? No
Fixes and partial rework? Absolutely
Plain and simple, kits need to have their stats removed, and to use whatever your weapon stats/sigils are.
I’d rather it be “Do 7 Fractals OR Do 7 Dungeon Paths”
GW2 is better than GW1 in almost every way. Stop letting nostalgia color your perception so heavily.
mmmhmmm – you’re absolutely correct. Nerfing all the drops and forcing players into one type of niche to garner decent gear is just about better in all ways.
This isn’t even remotely true.
There are 4-6 ways to get “Decent gear” right off the top of my head, and more that I’m sure I haven’t even discovered or used.
Exotics from:
Karma
Crafting
WvW
Dungeons
Drops
Mystic Forge
Look at how incredibly niche that is! Gods there’s only 6 solid ways to get a full set of exotic gear. It must be impossible to get decent gear!
You’re just sucked into your own confirmation bias and WANT to hate on the game. So you do mental gymnastics to let you do so.
To the poster above me: The more people that buy a game, and the more popular it is, the higher % of players that will be dissatisfied with it. More population = higher number of people who don’t like something, it’s just a numbers thing.
Not to mention there are people who just like to hate things in a hipster like fashion just because.
(edited by Ahlen.7591)
Seriously this thread is stupid. Nobody is forcing you to buy ectos.
And even if you want them, farming both supplies gold, and possible ectos! Not to mention crafting materials.
It kills three birds with one stone. That’s a pretty nifty trick if you ask me.
TLDR; L2P.
If you engaged with the thread you would find that farming is tedious and unrewarding in terms of finding the necessary mats to craft.
TLDR; L2R.
That is completely YOUR personal opinion. It has nothing to do with facts. Fact is if you farm, you will get materials.
Whether YOU want to farm, or find it tedious, is completely irrelevant to that discussion.
How is Lost shores (and cursed shores) and Personal Story not solo-able? (Excepting killing Zhaitan)
If you can’t, it might be time to examine your playstyle or build.
GW2 is better than GW1 in almost every way. Stop letting nostalgia color your perception so heavily.
Also, gem store isn’t even remotely required at all to build an entire amazing set of gear. It can speed up the process, but you don’t HAVE to do it.
Also, to another point of yours, as an adult with adult responsibilities, those responsibilities would easily pay for gems if I were so inclined to purchase them.
Want an entire exotic set? Do your daily and farm some karma, purchase it from vendors in Orr. Bam, an entire exotic set that didn’t cost a single copper.

Evolved destroyer is kitten but alpha fights are a ton of fun.
I guess people forget that our rifle & pistol shots all pierce and can hit multiple targets. Im 90% sure this is reason why our weapon damage looks crap on screen on 1 target as single target damage is down scaled due this.
Same reason why FT damage “sucks” as it’s meant to use against multiple targets where it starts to shine (outside obvious miss problems).
Grenades & bombs are our best single target option while they happen to be also aoe attacks.. anet should really reconsider things a bit regarding engi.
Well, I don’t know if you were around for BWE2/3, but Explosive shot used to be I thinkittenerally TWICE as powerful as it is now.
Then someone make a great elixir/condition build, and it got completely wrecked at the start of BWE3.
Bleed isn’t the main condition for Engi’s, it’s burn. Unfortunately because of how burn stacks if anyone else in your group is using it (Like an elem or a longbow warr) your DPS is going to take a giant hit.
If nobody else is applying burn or poison, then P/P is way more damage than rifle, and more utility.
All farms like this do is inflate the economy, so I’m glad it got wrecked.
Right but now all the people that did have lots of money and those that didn’t are even further behind. So it really didn’t solve that problem did it?
Uh yeah, it kind of did.
The damage was done obviously, but future damage was prevented. So yeah, it did solve the problem.
Better late than never they say.
Can something be done about this? Seriously?
Can’t we just make it so players have to carry a bundle to the magmacite, instead of having to rely on incredibly bad and buggy and inconsistent NPC AI?
If you’re doing fractal bosses in melee range you’re doing it wrong. Every class can use ranged weapons, utilize them.
So we should just delete all melee weapons from the game then?
I thought GW2 was about choices, and playing how you want.
Necro wins the “Useless major traits that add nothing” award right now.
I really like Radiation field/vent radiation for Asura. 15s of guaranteed weakness is pretty solid, and 25s of poison (TB + field) is nice.
All farms like this do is inflate the economy, so I’m glad it got wrecked.
It’s fast, and a hell of a lot of fun.
Alpha fights are all great, keeps you on your toes the whole time.
Playing well will hopefully come. Standing away from action so you don’t die isn’t fun.
A dozen silver from a chest ? That will pay for 2 deaths so not exactly a mother lode of wealth.I had some cash when I hit 80…..I guess a “pile of wealth” is subjective. I did upgrade equipment though when I hit 80 but have no reason to PvE. At best I break even in WvW so I guess I am doing it wrong.
What?
I have near full exotics, and it’d take everything broken to cost me 12 silver to repair.
Paying 119g just for the look, and having to transmute it onto exotics.
Screw THAT.
Cond is pretty terrible compared to power/prec.
Pre coated bullets you might have had an argument. but now post 60, you can get coated bullets for p/p. its no question. power is your prime scaling damage.
Now, I do have to say, pistols scale much less then grenades/rifle… but probably viable.
But really when explosive shot is criting for 600×2 and rifle is critting for 2k, and grenades are 1200×3, its hard to stick with pistols.firearms is giving you free cond damage, and crit chance. Gear for power first to scale with that crit.
The only time P/P is worse than rifle is against objects and condition immune stuff, and things that take bonus damage (Like legendary dredge mining suit).
P/P can keep up just fine with rifle otherwise, and grenades while good are too much of a pain in the kitten to use forever. Seriously, I’m not playing the game to spam 1 1 1 1 1 over and over on 5 minute fights.
Also not sure where you’re getting 2k rifle crits, with 3700 power and 68% crit damage I drop maybe 1800 crits with a rifle.
Also Pistol is more utility.
Anyway play how you want, don’t try to cookie cutter your way to success you’ll just burn out.
Make a new character, engineer in your case (make sure to pick the universal toolpack), and head to the nearest with Black-Lion merchants and banks. Find a white back-piece and transmute it with the toolpack to “un-soulbind” it. Put it in the bank and take it out with the desired character you wish to use it on and do whatever you want with it.
This works fine, I did it two days ago with goggles just fine.
Transmuting to white turns it to bind on account, then you transmute it again onto whatever you want.
I hate him because I’m 90% condition damage, so…
Engi is alright, the main problem is they knee jerk nerfed pistol around the time of BWE3. If they unnerf that we’d be in a better position.
Also I hate grenades. They’re alright but it’s SO MUCH EXTRA WORK.
Wear a shield, automatically win all fights against thieves.
I actually find myself almost unkillable for the most part. I’m tougher than any guardian or warrior I’ve met so far.
Kit Refinement + Elixir Gun 5 stack, which for me with my 565 healing means I’m getting about 500+500 hp back per second. Combined with regeneration. So around 1190 HP/sec total healing while in the fields.
I wear an entire Apothecary set with Runes of Undead atm. 22k HP, 2695 armor, 1300 condition damage (With shield rune charged to 25)
If you want to play a condition based character: Make an Asura.
As someone who plays Warrior/Engineer exclusively, I’d say the warrior is the weaker of the two. I feel they’re fairly one-dimensional. Though that could be because Engi has so many skills compared to everyone else.
I am MASSIVELY jealous of the Warriors Rifle 1 on my engi. They’re basically the exact same skill, but Rifle 1 is I believe literally twice as good as Pistol 1.
You know what would help alleviate this?
A LFG TOOL!
Wait…people actually do this?
That is so incredibly kitten I think I need to lie down for a moment.
Would rather fight a warrior any day of the week over a thief.
At the very least because if the warrior starts to lose he doesn’t easily run like a sissy.
You’re fighting other players.
That’s PvP.
I like Cleric’s. Tough as nails and Elixir Gun 5 is godlike.
Maybe they nerfed it so people would go for higher levels?
Really doubt many people are leaving the game due to lack of ladder. Maybe <1%.
That’s just your confirmation bias speaking. You want something so obviously EVERYONE must want it, and you think the game is failing without it.
Death match is boring, so yeah I like conquest.
I don’t see CTF working with downed state. A VIP style of gameplay might work, at least for tPVP.
Definitely not, it’s already hard as hell to find groups for other dungeons because the best you can do is spam chats on the map they’re on or LA. This just simplifies that to only LA.
Putting it in LA is the best decision next to putting in an actual LFG tool.
