It is certainly possible to reach diamond without abusing the system. Stop being mad at people for being better or more lucky than you.
Certainly better luck… But if you doubt skill message me in game I’ll Fraps it hero.
Because Free To Play can’t post here. The players they care about aren’t the ones who’ve paid already it’s the ones who haven’t.
I whisper them congratulations on cheating a broken system. As a solo Q’r your diamonds mean you grouped and took advantage of a flawed mechanic. I know many of you are good and fun to play with as I’ve been here fo eva but I solo and Anet kitten on my kind.
Sigil of Doom: when you swap your weapon, the next attack inflict 6 seconds of Poison.
Be happy.8 seconds, basically near perma poison as long as you keep swapping weapons.
BUT IF YOU WANT REAL POISON BRING BACK DHUUMFIRE! 6 seconds of burning on ANY critical hit with no cooldown! It’ll kill the entire PvP community in a couple days
I’m Very much in favor of this and increased poison stacking. Poison was never meant to stack so almost all classes aren’t meant to apply more than 1, there was no need as duration stacking was all it was. With poisons now stacking this should have been addressed long ago.
My solution to bunkers is more Condi not nerfing survivability.

Which is why Arenanet of course anticipated this and banned f2p accounts from putting anything into guild banks, as the posts before this already correctly pointed out.
Really, all the other restrictions would be totally pointless if f2p accounts just could dump their stuff into the guild bank and have someone else take it out, that is also “not astrophysics”.
By the way my youtube channel now also has a short video showing an example of how to spot/target cheaters in the wintersday jp. See my signature.
So Free To Leech hack just because and the paid accounts do it for gold.

Didn’t know this. I hope they normalize all guild buffs asap. Considering all guild buffs were taken away with the introduction of HoT this isn’t surprising.
Very close to my thoughts on the game and I’ve been here since before launch.
According to the Gw2 chart of what F2p can do this is said
“Trading PostCan buy and sell items from a selected list.”
you may view all their FAQS at:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157?_ga=1.193197101.1617053550.1444300724
I don’t need to view any FAQ because I have access to a f2p account and see what it can and cannot do firsthand. You are nitpicking here. Ok, yes, there is a “selected list” of what f2p accounts can sell. I do not know what that list contains and I do not care. Nothing in my inventory is on that list. The list was made to ensure that nobody uses f2p accounts to “farm stuff” and have another account profit from it, and it does its job. You cannot sell anything you obtain from wintersday gifts and botting the JP on a f2p account would be completely wasted time so it is not done, period.

Hoghwash, everyone knows that developers aren’t human, you just plug in the feeding tube and they’ll spew out code all day and all night. Maybe a little downtime for maintenance and cleaning like once a month.
Can’t Stop Laughing! :’D
Lately? Lately?!?!?!
They released HoT, completely broke WvW, made everyone angry and went dead silent. Not a single word. Of course they posted in every other forum – including pointless troll threads – arranged sPvP tournaments and released tons of patches. It was only some weeks ago that they finally said something about WvW, a vague promise that sometime in the future they might do stuff. WvW is still broken btw, theres more bugs than ever that essentially brings the game back to beta stage. They admit none of these bugs. Well except the walls thats been fixed multiple times (they are still bugged).
So Anet being “quiet” here on the general forum is just lol.
There is a couple of people complaining, the rest of us, the majority of the community, really enjoy HoT and Everything it came with… Those of you who don’t like it, is a very small minority of way too loud trolls…
You have no basis in fact to assert that you are in the majority. I don’t presume to be because I have no data to back it up.
Down with Free To Play. This post was ignored because you want MORE Free To Play. /thread
Free To Play gone tomorrow. If they get banned they’ll just Re-roll and start over. They should all be banned but keeping them out is impossible now.
Well, I’ve been apart of the game for quiet some time now, I just got my “faithful” title and I’ve been talking about how amazing the game is and how its now free for people to join! I had gotten a good friend of mine to join the game, and so far so good.
The thing is, the F2P mode is lacking so much content..if you’re gonna make the game free for new players why take out basic things that pretty much all F2P games have?
I get it, it used to be that you had to pay for the game to play it, and its got a LOT of content. But come on, map chat, trading in the market, messaging players items/gold. Seriously?
His own quote, “Feeling bullied into buying the expansion.” basically says it all. Its like in order to fully enjoy the game you have to ultimately buy it anyways.
This needs to change, I was extremely upset to hear him say that he might just drop the game because of this. Perhaps he’ll want to buy the game if the game showed more…content? He’s limited in certain aspects, and its completely unfair to new players. You want people to buy the expansion, don’t go and limit them to what they can do!
I dunno if I’m the only one with this opinion, but I am very disapointed.
This makes me very angry. Very very angry, but you get it… Ok.
As a hater of all things Free To Play this makes my day. Thank you for posting, does anyone else have “friends” who didn’t buy the game and therefore cannot post here that they would like to circumvent forum rules for?
All who bought this Buy To Play game thank you in advance.
1 – Split PvP from PvE
2 – Solo Q
3 – Monthly Balance
4 – Build Templates
5 – News Maps
In order those are my fixes / wishes for PvP. 2 of these used to be in game and were removed (solo Q and PvP/ PvE seperate) which caused many of the issues with the current state of PvP.
If you’re against solo Q you’re not looking for good matches you’re hoping for easy wins with your guild team.
The game still has all the casual elements that casuals have had since day one. The game simply has additional opyions for game content beyond the casual if you so desire to take part in. Yes the new maos have a slightly increased difficulty curve, but they are afterall intended for players who have been playing the game for 3 years. I repeat: (These – maps – are – intended – for – players – with – 3 – years – of – experience.) If after 3 years you are still having trouble with this game to the point of openworld being impossible for you then you should probably quit. You are destined to be low tier scrub for eternity.
The problem is everything we just paid for is the meta event mumbo jumbo and they have away the things we already had.
Lol I love when GW2 players talk like this. Low tier scrub? All this game has had for 3 years is a speed clear dungeon team meta. WvW has actual players but you’re talking about PvE…. In GW2…. I swear most of you have never played another game before this one.
(edited by Aidenwolf.5964)
Community infighting because some asked for challenging group content which became the tag line for the expansion and the mantra for Anet this dev cycle. It was poorly implemented clearly and hasn’t been addressed quickly enough but that’s not the fault of those who asked for or enjoy this expansion that’s on Anet.
What is on the Get Gud crowd is the constant insistence that if you’re not enjoying the xpac it’s your fault. This is not remotely what was promised to those of us who paid to Play this game. Challenging group content in every aspect of the xpac all maps requiring organized groups to tackle meta events ad nauseam is not what we were sold. This is the issue, the xpac contains 4 maps which (whether you like it or not) are not what GW2 was built on.
This game was the anti MMO, and the base (or half at least) loved it for that. Anet have placated one side and upset the other half, that’s the issue.
I laugh at the Get Guds in GW2 honestly, I’ve been to the very top in raiding and PvP in far more competitive MMOs than GW2 and I left them to come here. This game can’t compete with those other MMOs in this regard and trying to isn’t wise.
I was going to create my own thread but these mods combine them anyways so here’s video of a JP hacker, reported.
Soleil,
That still doesn’t show why the game needs saving. You just claim that it needs saving. And then point to an end result reason. But that’s not that core reason. And until you say what that CORE reason the game needs saving is, there is no way ANY of us can claim that mounts will save or not save the core problem you think the game has.
So, why are stocks falling?
Could be game issues or corporate issues. I will assume you mean game issues as mounts won’t solve corporate issues.
Game issues the game has:
1. Lag
2. Low FPS issues
3. Crashes
4. Too easy/Too hard – aka Difficulty issues
5. Balance issues
6. Way too many WvW issues to list
7. Guild issues
8. Achievement issues (Festive Imbiber)
9. Rewards issues (failing events, rng, etc)
10. Content issues (too much, too fast/too little, too slow)So which key issue, will mounts begin to address? If it’s not listed, please let us know specifically in as few words as possible. If you must expand, have the fewest words possible summary bolded or otherwise easily findable.
Basically keep asking Why is this happening? until you can’t answer it anymore without giving obvious answers.
Why are stocks down? People are unhappy with ANet.
Why are people unhappy with ANet? They are getting a feeling a lot of people have stopped playing GW2.
Why are they sensing that? Because they’re reading several posts about how players are fed up with crashing.
Fed up with crashing is the first time you get to the point where if you ask anymore questions, you’ll get obvious answers. In this case, the reason the stocks are falling’s root cause is the crashes the games has.
So, find the root problem. Then we can discuss if mounts will help fix the problem or not.
Don’t put me in a box of your ten problems. I am dealing with a bigger problem of unnatural lore, built up community disappointment with updates offered, and gem-induced income.
A higher income and more investment will allow more time and employees to handle your 10.
I am pointing out an overlooked goldmine that needs to be addressed in order to help address the rest of the problems.
Mounts will save the game.
Then you missed this line:
If it’s not listed, please let us know specifically in as few words as possible.
I knew there were likely more issues, but I didn’t need to spend 5 years writing an exhaustive list.
But based on this response I can infer you think it’s a money issue. Please let me know if I’m wrong.
Here’s one why path:
Why aren’t they achieving the money they want? Because HoT didn’t sell as well as expected.
Why didn’t HoT sell as well as expected? ANet mismanaged the information stream. The fiasco regarding hero points really hurt the sales combined with not much concrete information was released. Had that information come out sooner, it may not have has as huge of an impact.
So in my mind, ANet being more open with information would save the game. Not mounts.
There are enough people that withhold gem purchases with money based on ANet’s decisions for the game to say that just mounts will save the game. Enough who want mounts may be unwilling to spring the cash to buy the mounts because of other more critical issues they see with the game.
Even their merging of mount threads without a word is an issue. I’d rather then come out and say: “Hey, we’d really like to add mounts but we can’t really come up with a lore based way to do it or with a fair way to handle them that won’t make our problems with lag and FPS worse.” Or a “We don’t plan on adding mounts at this time because we are afraid this will lead to inflation due to fewer people using waypoints and can’t come up with a fair way to tax mount usage. Should someone come up with a solution to both problems, we would look at it and may consider adding mounts at that point.” But just merging it doesn’t say anything to me. It could be a it’s on the table and in the works, so we can’t talk about it; or we don’t want to drive away the large minority by outright saying no.
So: Why does ANet have a money issue?
Answer in as few words as possible. Until we get to what you feel is the core issue, extra words are pointless.
I have no reason to answer this question. It’s not something we can resolve here.
I’m not interested in talking about problems, they have experts who do that already. I am here to suggest a solution. And my solution just happens to be a beautiful one that will make everyone happy.
Your posts are well… just whining
Which means you know it won’t save the game, but are too proud to admit it.
Stop claiming it will make everyone happy when there are people in this post who say it will make them unhappy. Stop speaking for everyone.
To get other PLAYERS behind you, you need to convince us you’ve found one of the problems that ANet’s people have found and that your solution will solve that problem. If ANet’s forum reading people don’t get a sense that your solution is well liked by others, they won’t pass it on to those who are in charge of making the decision on whether or not to add mounts.
So again: Why do you have money problems?
No one has said that it will make them unhappy. The strongest negative emotion was annoyance.
A positive remark about mounts was mentioned by another poster to describe mounts as beautiful and well desired.
I’m winning in terms of community feedback about mounts.
I am giving a solution that will mainly do 2 things.
1. Enrich Lore and Gameplay Enjoyment.
2. Increase income to help ANET work on the major issues more effectively. I already think they’re doing a good job, they just need a good push to help them do it faster and more efficiently. My solution helps that tremendously. If you really want the answer to your question as to why there’s a money problem then here it is:
It is because the developers have not listened to their community and their suggestions for improvement.
Which includes your suggestions as well Seera. I think you bring up good points. It’s just not relevant to this particular thread is all.
They’ve instead cut back and took the easy road due to budget issues. This caused the initial exodus of players who were the chief income producing agents for ANET. It all spiraled down afterwards.
Ok, we’re getting somewhere.
How does adding mounts solve that problem? Adding mounts is only one suggestion for improvement. Other suggestions have been made for the game. Some contradicting each other. Is every idea no matter how absurd supposed to be added? What do you about ideas that contradict each other?
Your problem I think is a symptom of my problem. Their lack of communication creates the perception that they don’t read threads. Whether that’s true or not, neither of us can say. If they communicated more, we’d know better what ideas would work with their vision of the game and which weren’t. And how to better to lay out the case for our ideas. Do they care more for lore or for balance?
Racial elites have been posted. Lore wise it makes sense. But balance wise that could be an issue. Norn warriors who go the Norn Elite route may end up more powerful than an Asura warrior. While lore wise that makes sense, they did say that racial skills were underpowered because they didn’t want race to become something people used for finding others to party with. So it seems if the two oppose each other, they go for balance.
I see what you mean. However, I really can’t address the balance issues you’re talking about.
I think ANET is doing a good job at balancing. It just takes time so I would ask you to be patient with them.
My goal is to increase income and disposable income at that in order to help them address your concerns faster. We’re aiming at the same goal but going at a different angle. I hope you will see the positive effort of my OP. The end goal is to help ANET do their job well. Which I think they’re already doing. They just need that support push from us the community. And I think the mounts will be well received with a plethora of income opportunities to be had.
Until they figure out the major core issues, any gem sales are likely to be too adversely affected to have any huge affect.
People aren’t going to buy gems if they’re crashing.
People aren’t going to buy mounts if they’re having FPS issues.
People who mostly play WvW aren’t going to be happy to fork over money to ANet for mounts if WvW is still in its current state.
People aren’t going to buy mounts in drove if they have no where to take those mounts (lack of content problem). HoT maps aren’t exactly designed for traditional mounts and flying mounts would negate the entire gliding and mushroom jumping masteries. And anger a lot of players. Someone will ask for flying mounts if non-flying mounts are added. You might not, but someone else will.
Looking at all the people farming for [Winter’s Presence] I’m pretty sure plenty of people will buy the mounts regardless.
But that’s in game progress. Not spending real money. A player’s desire to spend time to farm and a player’s desire to spend real money are not based on the exact same conditions.
I’d be more likely to farm the gold to convert to gems buy a mount than open up my wallet if I had crashing issues or was a WvW player. Which doesn’t give ANet any money.
And you’d have to be very careful with the price of the mount to not make it too out of reach for players who can’t spend money on gems. Otherwise you turn the game into pay to win in that area and that will anger a lot more players, even players who would have otherwise loved collecting or buying mounts.
This is why I mentioned BL weapon skins in the earlier posts. No one will be able to buy all the mounts. And we don’t have to. Just like we don’t have to buy all the BL weapon skins. But we can if we want to.
If people can farm for a legendary which is around 50,000 gems. They can farm out the necessary gold. The gems come from somewhere. Someone has bought them to get gold for their 5th legendary or something. Anything Gem related in the end gives income to ANET. Which is my hidden goal if you want to call it.
You’re linking a legendary’s gem price…. If Anet follow your gem first thinking this game will go fully Free To Play which maybe you want. Gem sales first has done more to hurt this game than any misstep in design ever has or will.
What you believe and what is true are not necessarily the same thing. So when you say ONLY mounts could do this, you simply haven’t thought hard enough or you’re being sensational, because it’s all you have to ‘prove’ what you believe.
I don’t debate people would pay for mounts. The question is how many at what cost.
I don’t see why you think mounts are the simplest and most cost effective feature to implement for GS offering; nothing ingame right now demonstrates the mechanics necessary for mounts. All the collision, animation, artwork, etc… would need to be coded.
On the other hand, I can think of two things that would be hands down even more simple and cost effective than mounts because the mechanic already exists as a Watchwork pick. If we got a harvesting and logging tool that give bonus mats like WW pick, that would sell better than any mount ever would and for a lower development time and cost as well.
I think in a way us as a community are simply just complaining and asking ANET to simply fix all these problems. I don’t think that’s fair for ANET.
I think us as the community need to put our money where our mouth is and actually invest in this game so that the devs can attack those problems effectively.
Mounts gives us the community a good opportunity to do just that. Invest in the game. And mounts are usually one of the highest priced items in MMOs. That’s one of the reasons why I picked it.
We always have the choice not to buy them. We already have speed buffs to get us by. But having the mount available just helps us the community to invest in the game and get something nice out of it too. I honestly think this is a win win situation.
We just bought an expansion that broke more than it fixed, and watched Anet go Free To Play with our Buy To Play core game. You want us to buy gems…. No.
Be patient, they’ll prove themselves. They always have.
Not the same company.
Actually I am pretty sure mounts will come soon or later because ANet will make millions from gems to buy mounts at BLTC.
Exactly my hope. What I am saying is… now’s the perfect time to do it. No strings attached, just ANET’s present to the community. Something new, something fresh, something fun.
To be clear, presents aren’t COD.
What you believe and what is true are not necessarily the same thing. So when you say ONLY mounts could do this, you simply haven’t thought hard enough or you’re being sensational, because it’s all you have to ‘prove’ what you believe.

I’m not 100% against mounts but saying anything will save the game and then putting it in the gem store as you suggest shows the gap between players of this game.
The gem store is why things aren’t right. Free to Play exists entirely because they want fresh gem sales and all development of GW2 going forward will be with an eye to converting the unpaid horde into purchasers not just of the game but of gems. Old players already have bag slots and character slots so the best potential gem customer is a new player.
Save the game with a gem store item? I’d pass.
It’s every game mode for free…. Forever, I paid for that access and giving it away is stealing from me that’s my definition of theft.
Your definition of theft has little to nothing to do with theft. I understand that some people just don’t like MMO’s going free to play in any way, shape or form. I saw it in SWtOR, where chat was about as vehemently anti-free player as any game I’ve seen. I just don’t understand why.
Theft would mean that something you had was taken away. Well, you still have everything you paid for. Well, most everything. If there was any theft, it was in taking the vanilla guild bonuses and re-purposing them behind HoT guild mechanics and in removing dungeon rewards and putting them behind a mastery barrier that requires HoT. I’m still not sure that qualifies due to that pesky clause in the ToS or UA that says something like, “…the game may change without notice.”
Since I won’t change your mind, why post this? Well, because I’d rather see suggestions for how Anet could meet its goals while preserving whatever it is you want to preserve. Recriminations may make you feel better, but they will have zero impact on ANet going forward.
I played swtor when BW took that game FTP I left never went back and will never buy another BW game, ever. I am not alone in this as everyone I play with did the same, you burn gamers you lose them forever.
This wasn’t a sub game, FTP is unthinkable in a B2P game. You pay to get in, removing that barrier destroys the contract with those who bought the key. What was broken was the contract I agreed to when I bought the game. I’ve now paid to be surrounded with FTP leeches who go game to game without spending a penny. They don’t care if they’re banned so they hack, troll, whatever they want. If they’re banned… Re-roll for free. I despise Free To Play.

The biggest problem with all those whiners is that they interpret their own opinion into the minds of everyone.
Many people like to have skill challenges hard/group content, just be cause you don’t think it’s fun you don’t have to come here like 10’000 others and whine about it for the 10’000th time and tell that it is not fun.
Ironically your post sounds whiney.
The 10,000 number you used twice to emphasize your point is also very ironic. Talking about what you don’t like is actually better than leaving the game as many have done over the last 3 years. Whichever of us is in the minority we’ll soon know. Whining about whining is the new meta.
Whining about whining isn’t whining. But I understand that you hate the game.
Worst expansion I’ve ever purchased.
PVP – Worse (unbalanced, kitten pips)
WvW – Worse (dead)
New Maps – Bad (All Zerg Fest)
Dungeons – Dead (No Loot)
Core – Given Away (Theft)GW2 is in a very bad place imo.
Won’t comment on PvP. WvW changes that were supposed to be in the expansion were delayed, so yeah that sucks. New maps are mostly not zerg fests and in fact, zerging some of that stuff makes it a lot harder. It’s a lot easier with less people. In fact, the maps are designed to break the zerg into sections frequently. Anyone who plays those maps can see it.
Even in something like DS which is a huge zerg in each of the three lanes, there are still multiple side quests along the way further splitting up the zerg, somtimes into 3 parts. So on a full map if you actually have 150 people that’s 50 per lane. Today our “zerg” of 50 had to be divided into smaller groups to actually do what we needed to do, about 15 people in each group. Not a zerg by any definition I’ve heard. The final battle takes place on floating islands and you certainly can’t zerg that.
The core being given away free isn’t theft by anyone’s definition. All it is is a paid demo till you pay for HoT or the core game if you can find it. It’s not the full original game without restrictions. You can’t talk in map chat, you can’t trade gems for gold, you can’t use the trading post fully…I’m not sure how that qualifies as theft. Yeah we get it, you’re not satisfied with the game, but inventing stuff to try to prove a point doesn’t prove anything.
My ownership of Buy To Play Guild Wars 2 was turned into a joke, it was made irrelevant, it was voided. This is an unpaid permanent access to GW2 This free trial allows a leech to Play 1-80, WvW non stop, PvP non stop, complete all core maps, and craft ascended or get guild comms for ascended trinks and run fractals. They can’t map chat but they can party chat so who cares. They can’t gem to gold? I never have either that’s a plus. They can’t be TP barons… So?
It’s every game mode for free…. Forever, I paid for that access and giving it away is stealing from me that’s my definition of theft.
I bought GW2 because it was Buy To Play, I hate Free To Play games… I HATE them. My purchase of GW2 is now a joke because I bought a Free To Play game. They changed the business model, whether you admit it or not is irrelevant.

I can’t support balance like that.
What do you mean? You are already supporting it.
Do you play sPvP? Well elites are meta (the only meta) so the community has spoken – get HoT, we all love it.
Do you play PvE? Elites are pretty much superior in every single way and everyone play them, so get HoT, we all love it.
Do you play WvW? Well you’re actually really into PvE, see point above.
We don’t all love it. Unless you’re using the royal (southern) singular of you all.
The biggest problem with all those whiners is that they interpret their own opinion into the minds of everyone.

people keep saying 3 years 3 years, but not everyone play this game all 3 years, player can cut the subscription if they want a break
beside that, this game has gem store
I think that the content of HoT not worth $60 for players with core game
Selling HoT alltogether with core game was lame way to steal money from people who have core already.
Its ok to pay 50 euros,if you do not have game at all,but that means,i bought core game, which i don’t need at all = i wasted 25 euros for nothing. It would be awesome if they allowed us to give to people core cd key.
People who do not have game at all, they spent 50 euros on both games.
People who got core game, spent same amount of money for expansion..
That’s some weird logic, but then again, its Arena Net,nothing can surprise me anymore.
It’s also what all the top MMOs are doing, not just Anet. You’re trying to make it sound like it’s unreasonable to remove barriers to entry for people. People who bought half a dozen WoW expansions paid for them, but new players only need the base game and the current expansion.
It’s not something people complain about, because it’s ridiculous to think that people will look at a game to play, realize they have to buy three or four games and think sure why not. That’s not how it works.
Removing barriers to entry is good for veterans.
GW2 was Buy To Play it was supposed to be different than every other MMO. It is now a Freemium game and players have every right to dislike it. Buy once and play forever was corrupted by the gem store you championed no matter what they put in it. Players like me saw doom when you saw sunshine you’ll convince none of us to rejoice in being fleeced.
Guild Wars 2 is buy to play. You can buy it and play it. Now Heart of Thorns is buy to play. Just like Guild Wars 1 was buy to play but still had an expansion.
Buy to play doesn’t mean there’ll never be an expansion. Buy to play means you’re playing a game without a monthly fee.
Guild Wars 2 HoT essentially replaced Guild Wars 2 core. It’s the new Guild Wars 2. It’s buy to play.
If you want to play Guild Wars core, you dont’ have to buy anything. It’s now free.
I’ll correct you here because accuracy is important when attempting to correct misinformation. Guild Wars 2 is Free to Play…. Guild Wars is not. Each Guild Wars campaign still is Buy To Play. I was robbed and am unhappy about it, if you want to correct me, be correct.
Free to Play Guild Wars 2 has kitten all to do with the expansion anyways they just gave away my kitten for nothing to anyone who logs in.
The Guild Wars 2 game is buy to play. That is HoT which is the current incarnation. This is how MMOs work. Too much of a barrier to entry for new players to buy every single game leading up to the game. This is why WoW and EQ did it.
And you know, three year old games all go down in price to the point where you can buy the original Guild Wars Trilogy for the price of new players paid just for Prophecies.
So if you bought Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall when they came out, you were actually paying three times the price of all three games together if you waited.
It’s what happens. Expecting it not to happen, therefore, isn’t reasonable in my opinion. The real problem you don’t like the direction the game is heading in, and so you’ll complain about every aspect of the game, even something every other major MMO is doing or going to do for the exact same reason.
You think it’s better to charge for each game and have far less players? Okay then.
You’re right about my thoughts on the direction of the game but you’re actually trying to ignore that the core game is Free To Play which boggles the mind.

people keep saying 3 years 3 years, but not everyone play this game all 3 years, player can cut the subscription if they want a break
beside that, this game has gem store

OP, players like you are why they dared to take the game FTP. Honestly they just gave the game away for free now you want to limit what my paid account has access to?

Really? Freemium? Where is this optional monthly payment? I’m not seeing it.
Here I’ll help. Base game is completely Free To Play with a few annoying restrictions, Chat and Trading Post Limitations being the most annoying but the entire core game (all of it) is playable for free. Want those annoying limitations removed? Buy HoT. Want to make a Revenant? Buy HoT. Want to do meta events in Maguuma? Buy HoT. Want an elite spec? Buy HoT.
None of these are required to play GW2, they’re extras. You can create a Free account and spend 24/7 in Tryia without ever spending a penny. The game is free… With extras.
As for the optional monthly bit, that’s the store.

If you bought the game for $50 at launch and did not play it, it is your fault. Then when you look at the price today and think that charging another $50 for the expansion+core game is ridiculous, then you are unreasonable. AreaNet simply removes barrier to entry to all new players.
A new HoT player is not on equal footing with a 3 years old veteran. No way. Let’s not talk about all the restriction on free account. A 3 year old account can worth tens of thousands of gold in collection, dyes, ascended weapons/armor and legendary weapons. To even think that somehow you’re cheated that suddenly a new player that just purchased HoT is somehow magically equal to you is unimaginable. Yes they got both parts of the game for the same price while you paid twice. But guess what, you get so much advantage over those people.
I can jump into a raid whenever I want, can a new player do it? Nope, they better wait for a month or two before they can even attempt if they want to have a chance at it. Can a new player join a raiding guild? No, not if they are not sufficiently equipped or can play proficiently.
Can a new player craft a legendary weapon old or new? No. They’ll have to wait for months if not years down the road? Me, I have enough resources to cook up one or two or three if I want to.
Can a new player do anything as efficiently as I am? No, not if I’m also doing it.
Can a new player reach where I am at right now? Sure, maybe 2-3 years down the road?
By the time they reach my point, which is a few months if not years down the road, I would be hundreds, thousands of mile ahead still. There will be new raids, new weapons, new armor. I want them? I can cook up any any time. New players? They have to wait.
People speak of 3 years game play as if they are not worth anything. They are wrong, 3 years is A LOT of advantage for head start.
At HoT launch, I had a choice of buying a new account or add the expansion to my old one to have TWO accounts. But then I thought, well yeah, I don’t want to be a new player right now.
If you’re pleased good for you. Tired of being told I got my money’s worth, that’s my decision. Core being bundled with HoT is fine but it should cost more than an existing player’s purchase, period.
The game going Free To Play killed any loyalty I had for Anet.
Try Settler’s go burn heal or bleed heal auramancer and bathe in the tears of those you stomp. Healing Condi is great.
Whether or not HoT is too challenging or just right isn’t the real issue, it’s not for me, so I don’t venture there. I finished story and left, it’s all yours. Raids were the only thing I went in for and I’m taking a break from them as well. WvW is ruined and the solo Q in PVP is in the worst place it’s ever been so if you’re enjoying it, gratz but I wasted money on HoT.
Whether my assessment, yours, or some new player who bought the game and loves it or quit instantly is being catered to We shall find out soon enough. I’m tired, the game’s gone Free To Play so any hope I had for GW2 left when Anet stole from me and I doubt they can fix what they’ve broken with this feature pack.
Happy for you even if I’m angry at the player base for not being angry all the time at what this game turned into. I’m just tired.
I’m not sure if it’s a bug or it’s supposed to be this way, but I can’t change the stats on an ascended breather in the Mystic Forge like I can with another ascended piece of armor or weapon. Is this a bug Anet or is supposed to be this way? Anyone else have this problem?
Backpiece trinkets and breather are all treated the same. Build the Zerker one and never look back.
You do not want toughness. Healing, Power, Prec is what raids call for. Or a 4 stat Healing, Power, Precision, Expertise. If you want to heal tank run some cele trinks.

The game went Free To Play which kittens everyone who owned the Buy To Play Guild Wars 2 core game. Preorders who got kittened received a character slot but those who were smart enough to wait to be fleeced get kittened a bit more. You’re better off waiting for a huge sale at this point.
They should have made more achievements than required for the meta. Less stress, and more fun. That makes happy customers. And you don’t have to make the achievements super easy. You can just make them possible to get during the meta..
It should have been ~1000 drinks and 10-20 completions of each activity.
As it stands, you basically do the activities 3 times each and then get the monolith drinking one done with whatever activity nets you the most gold the fastest since earning the drinks directly through casual play is a glacial pace endeavor if you don’t enjoy grinding the hell out of the jumping puzzle.
It’s like they literally couldn’t help themselves and just had to sneak in one requirement that would guarantee them RMT income.
Exactly, it’s as if no one was there to say no to the money people.
1st post you’ve ever made….. I swear this is making my spidey sense tingle.
To the OP of you’re losing running staff switch to DD (same build)
sorry to post 3 picture i dont care anymore about the rule in the forums im just mad . No Gun Em down i dont care about mmr , im just playing for fun and getting diamond but its impossible for me.
I dont know what should i do……
Im gonna try venom share Ross :PHere you go
Don’t expect to carry, but you’ll certainly make strong team mates stronger XD
Stick to team fights and decapping and you should be boss.
Kitten Ross the 1st rule of Thieves Club is not ever sharing anything. Soon everyone will know thief isn’t kitten and…. nerfs.
Kidding of course, but seriously thief can contribute to a group comp and so can anti-meta builds.
I gifted a guild member the Festive Hat (gold to gems) but it was sent to his alt account. Anet quickly refunded the gems so I could send it to his main account.
I’d like to say thank you and Happy Winter’s Day to support staff for their swift action.
Best of luck in your next game. I’d nominate myself but RNG wouldn’t let me
creditcard? what are you guys talking about??
What they’re saying is that you as an owner of Guild Wars 2 are basically a Free To Play player now. Buy HoT to play the non free game.
You read correctly, I HATE Free To Play, I HATE it. I paid full price (max as I have a CE) for GW2 and they stole from me when they took GW2 FTP. I don’t care if you like it or don’t mind it My money is mine, not yours.
Free To Play games are a joke and I avoid them because this is what they do. They add so much grind that a player with a job and a family will shortcut the grind by using a credit card. That’s what Mad King and Winter’s Day post Free To Play have been… FTP style credit card simulators.
Don’t tell me to enjoy, accept, welcome or rejoice over having a product I paid for given away for free. FYI that Q for the jumping puzzle is a bit longer because free players need gifts too, even though the whole game’s a gift to them.
Free To Play is exactly what’s wrong with the game.
Well that’s what happens with software (as with any consumer product). It devalues, and instead of just letting it die out while becoming nothing more than the foundation of future expansions they decided to make a bold marketing move to help promote future growth to the player base.
It just so happened to have got stuck with an unfair F2P label (people immediately think Korean F2P model and shy away) that does not work or fit these newer hybrid F2P models, but then again in reality GW 1 & 2 has always been looked at by players of various MMO’s as F2P as it has never had a monthly membership fee.
Which is unfair to GW2 as its F2P does not have “buy in options” that allow it to stay free while having more benefit (to either the player or ArenaNet) than a full account.
It does what they wanted. It gives a nice chance to experience the core game without taking away from or impacting the benefits of what being a full account means.
FYI though I wasn’t telling you what to “enjoy, accept, welcome or rejoice over” as my post was simply pointing out an objective argument (based on having owned GW2 since launch and using a F2P account) to your blaming only F2P for this design trend.
As I said above F2P is of no benefit to full players let alone ArenaNet in regards to these past couple months when it comes to these new grinds other than it nudging them to upgrade to full account at best.
So again. Other than hate for the sake of hating you cannot even back up your claim to blame to show how these design choices are even due to F2P.
You don’t like it, and you don’t have to like it, but unless you plan to stop playing you are stuck having to accept it. Like it or not.
In the end though this game has always had a grind (just as GW1 did) in some form that resulted in potential money making for ArenaNet well before F2P existed.
Living World event chests requiring (outside the very rare key drop) you to buy them with Gems by either farming gold and converting it to Gems or opening your wallet.
Then there was the Molten Jetpack that required you to keep grinding the dungeon in hopes to get its drop, or somehow grinding enough money to buy it, or yet again opening your wallet to buy Gems to convert to gold in order to buy it.
We really must have been playing two very different versions of GW2 since launch, because I can toss out plenty of things that have been like this or worse from time periods way before F2P that show that this has always been a “credit card simulator”, and all you have to hide behind is to simply blame F2P instead of the real issues.
Its fine though. We all have to keep our own realities sane somehow.
For me its seeing that this is a company that behind the game is in it to make money to turn a profit, pay employees, and keep the money mak…er, game going as long as they can.
At least if your going to be mad about something base it on its real source, and that is that ArenaNet wants YOUR money right now. Not some F2P that is not a sure thing.
1st two festivals after FTP both contain the Korean style grind you say the game doesn’t. These events before FTP did not.
They say that because they are brainwashed sheeple nerds. Of course score matters. It is true that the top score doesn’t always mean that is the mvp of the match. But generally speaking, good players will consistently score higher then bad players. Saying score doesn’t matter is like saying things like caps, decaps, defends, kills, ressses don’t mean anything…..of course they mean something.
You can always tell who the dude is outclassed in the match, when everyone on the server has 150 points, and he has 50…That no skill, sit on his kitten , bunker, better not have lost that base once! lol.
If you are bunker camping a base the whole game, even if you did not lose it once(meaning you never had to recap it) you better get some points for resses, stomps, kills, team assists, etc….
^ this is why ANet needs to fix this issue. People like this just have no idea how pvp in Gw2 works and it’s sad :/
You beat me to it. This is the sort I’m being matched with and I’m fed up carrying them.
Festive Imbiber is a ridiculous achievement if you ask me.
Why has ANet adopted this policy of introducing overly expensive or grindy achievements? Why must we pay for achievements with gold or mindless farming instead of earning them through actual challenge or fun events? Shouldn’t Wintersday be fun?
I don’t understand. The game has been taking increasingly worse turns lately. How can you keep making so many poor decisions, one after the other without proper testing or implementation? Did you just think “oh, let’s make it 10 000 drinks because that’s the first number that popped into my head”? Did you even consider the potential costs involved for the player, in terms of time or gold and consider whether it was balanced or viable?
You are forcefully ensuring only a minority will be able to get these shoulders (thanks to resource limitations that will become increasingly worse once Wintersday ends). If your new policy is to make a game that’s rewarding and fun only for a minority, I honestly think my days in GW2 are numbered. I’m becoming very frustrated lately and I don’t think I’m the only one.
Free To Play. GW2 is no longer Buy To Play no matter what anyone says it’s now Freemium. The entire design of the game from going FTP forward is how to get gem sales and convert FTP into spenders. I never play FTP games because I can’t stand the design. Grind to the point of grabbing the plastic is all they do, welcome to the new Tyria.
No, just NO!
All I read here is hate for F2P and F2P players that causes you to have flawed and misguided theories of why there is a 10k drink achievement for Wintersday.
Which of course has nothing to do with the core game going F2P, but looks to have everything to do with blaming another player type for something that really only impacts you (and other full players).
Have you even tried the whole F2P model?
If so then you would know that its design (and limitations) is actually quite ingenious compared to other F2P games as its focus is not in trying to milk new F2P players from their money.
They have actually did a remarkable job with creating a F2P game that will actually let you enjoy just about every aspect of the core game (even with a few major limitations) without having to pay anything if they were so inclined, and it really is what they advertise. Simply a way to see what is offered while letting their game do the talking for them.
I have been playing since launch (this account right here), but I did create a F2P to introduce my kids to the game and be on equal level with them while they were seeing if this was something that they liked enough to purchase. It did its job (as advertised), and my kids are waiting for their upgrade come Christmas. All without being blocked off by a “Cash Grab” beyond nudges of seeing why getting the full game was a good thing, and yet at no time did the kids (or I on that account) feel a need (let alone pressure) to have to buy Gems in order to keep playing or accessing the game.
However, going back to the main point of how this isn’t about the game going F2P. F2P cannot even buy/sell the drinks which of course also restricts their ability to obtain the other needed items to complete Winter’s Presence. So where is ArenaNet trying to turn F2P into spenders with this?
Yeah, thats what I thought. Nowhere. So then it really ONLY affects full access players, but even if this was some conspiracy to get you to buy Gems to convert to gold it would be no different than other things ArenaNet has done since launch (well before F2P) with things like the Karka chests and gem bought keys.
Which means in the end this still has nothing to do with being about the game going F2P as they have used similiar types of tactics to encourage your parting of monety since launch. Its ALWAYS been about designing ways to sell Gems, etc to increase sales/profit while in many ways giving us fun options and things.
In the end. You don’t want to buy gems to get gold to buy drinks, and it only affects you if your full access. Similiar things have been done since launch and it does not equal being the fault of F2P. Especially when they cannot even make partial use of the ability your being inconvienced by.
You read correctly, I HATE Free To Play, I HATE it. I paid full price (max as I have a CE) for GW2 and they stole from me when they took GW2 FTP. I don’t care if you like it or don’t mind it My money is mine, not yours.

The newly forming condition meta seems only to value burning, and they seem not to value the other 3 damaging conditions like they should, least of all bleeds.
For reference on this, I invite you to check the wiki like I did, and break out your calculator app and look at the difference in damage. I asked the question: “How many bleed stacks does it take to equal one burn stack, for one second, with no condition damage?”
The answer? 5
This seems disheartening, because we all know that most bleeds are only applied one at a time sarcasm*
I then asked the question: “How many stacks of bleed does it take to equal burn damage at 1700 condition damage?” (1700 was chosen as it’s an easily reachable number with condition damage primary star gear.)
The answer? 2.
Not what I expected to see at all.
Conclusion? Bleeds get more benefit from stacking condition damage than burns do, relatively speaking.
I can hear you now… “but if I stop using my ‘burn rotation’ to apply bleeds, the burns fall off!”
And yes, this is true. But I invite to to look at the base durations of bleeds on any class capable of doing them.
Bleeds, even high stack bleeding moves, have longer durations than burns by a huge ammount.
This means that, yes, your burns will fall of while refilling bleeds, but you can make a long and persistent stack of bleed that stays up during your ‘burn, torment, or poison rotation’ thus increasing dps during your burn stack phase.
I’ve seen 10k bleeds ticking along side 17k burns on my condition tempest. (Which I’m getting ready to do a build video for, which, once completed will be posted here, as it will be my first foray into the YouTube world.) This was, for the record, done on the twins fractal level 40. This leads me to want to knee jerk out a click bate phrase like “27k dps!”… but the fact is that both bleeds and burns hover at 7k each, spiking higher on each side, and all the extra power from vipers gear, and damage traits means that my white damage is respectable too…(5% against bleeding foes, 10% against bring foes, and 10% after overload) so while I haven’t truly calculated the damage, it’s at least as effective at the meta sinister engineer. (Tested time spent racing to kill various mobs against the sinister meta build. We timed the kill speed of various mobs… When dpsing at the same time, I had higher bleed and burn numbers… but that has to do with damaging condition interactions. And not the per person dps.)
I digress. The main point here, is that in a phrase, bleeds are powerful, and have long durrations, and can be used to supplement any condition build worth it’s salt.
The failure to use bleeding to its fullest potential, is a failure to understand the condition damage system.
(I plan to put up a post here about condition damage, and what the “dream team” of 4 condition players would look like for raids, and why. Keep your eyes peeled for that.)
What are the thoughts of the community on this? Or do I need my video proof before anyone will believe my claims?
Great post and accurate based on my observations. I’d add poison to that though as it’s never mentioned like burning is but stacks incredibly well on a few classes and has terrific damage with duration.
The reason fire is considered the go to Condi is warriors can apply a good amount consistently on Gor to the large hit box but what makes Engis #1 is they aren’t limited to just burning as warriors are. The forgotten class is Necro who due to ignorance are taken for epidemic and not because they are incredible bleed / poison masters.
