In most scenarios, personal score doesn’t matter. However there will be cases where a match outcome can be judged from a player’s individual score. I’m sure we’ve all encountered matches where there’s that one person kept going to a mid point where there’s 2-3 enemies, only to get slaughtered, possibly ending the match on 0.
Even if you play as bunker, and held a point for the entire game, good teammates certainly should have rotated and helped score a kill. Thus having a low score is perfectly reasonable, having a 0 score can be questionable.
Zero is certainly a red flag as are low scores in general but when you see a decap engi kept far neutral all match vs an auramancer that zero score won the match for you.
I won a match doing just that, and had some idiot on my team call me out for having no points (I had 10 I believe) and the 3 others in my team shouted him down. Team play on conquest maps is centered around caps anyone saying otherwise I hope never to be paired with.
SCORE DOES MATTER
If the rest of the team has 100+ and you have 30, and it was a close game.

Absolute nonsense. You’re the kind of player I get grouped with in this shambles of a tourney, the kind who shouts without knowing. Bunkers will almost always have low scores but without them you’re not winning. Also, keeping far decapped all match is more valuable than stomping 10 players but will not generate a high individual score.
The game matches you up the best it can. The 50/50 W/L thing is a myth made up by terrible players. It does not “try to make you lose” at any point.
Also, you’re supposed to rise by being good. You’re probably not good, deal with it.
You have no clue what you’re talking about. MMR definitely goes on streaks if you haven’t seen it you’re always in a team, go solo Q hero, you’ll see.
Festive Imbiber is a ridiculous achievement if you ask me.
Why has ANet adopted this policy of introducing overly expensive or grindy achievements? Why must we pay for achievements with gold or mindless farming instead of earning them through actual challenge or fun events? Shouldn’t Wintersday be fun?
I don’t understand. The game has been taking increasingly worse turns lately. How can you keep making so many poor decisions, one after the other without proper testing or implementation? Did you just think “oh, let’s make it 10 000 drinks because that’s the first number that popped into my head”? Did you even consider the potential costs involved for the player, in terms of time or gold and consider whether it was balanced or viable?
You are forcefully ensuring only a minority will be able to get these shoulders (thanks to resource limitations that will become increasingly worse once Wintersday ends). If your new policy is to make a game that’s rewarding and fun only for a minority, I honestly think my days in GW2 are numbered. I’m becoming very frustrated lately and I don’t think I’m the only one.
Free To Play. GW2 is no longer Buy To Play no matter what anyone says it’s now Freemium. The entire design of the game from going FTP forward is how to get gem sales and convert FTP into spenders. I never play FTP games because I can’t stand the design. Grind to the point of grabbing the plastic is all they do, welcome to the new Tyria.

HoT has been the worst expansion ever!
If you think that you haven’t been around MMOs long enough to comment. There have been far worse expansions.
First of all, the WvW part of the expansion didn’t make it into the expansion and is still being worked on. The expansion didn’t touch WvW< so the problems with WvW have nothing to do with the expansion.
As for PvE, there are plenty of people who like the raids. There are plenty of people who like the new zones. I run into them every day. This universal disdain you’re talking about isn’t so universal.
Google Star Wars Galaxies NGE and read what a real bad expansion does to a game.
New borderlands did and they’re bad, objectively bad. The super secret WvW project “years in development” can’t get here fast enough. HoT did change WvW and anyone into WvW knows that.

10,000 drinks over 52 weeks is still ridiculous, it’s almost 200 a week. Seriously, how is this any better when the drinks themselves aren’t available (in any appreciable quantity) during the year?
I’d like to ask who exactly considers this kind of “achievement” fun? How did this ever get into the game? Basic maths would tell you this was unachievable through game play, this is just another gold sink.

I PvP more than anyone in my guild and it’s clear it’s affecting my MMR to the point where I’ve given up on the season. I’ve given up on so many aspects of the game though that who really cares.
Merging mine but losing my better title is very Grinchy. I can’t even get into the JP to grind these kittening presents since the game’s filled with Free to Play leeches.
I am not sure that something you can get almost instantly constitutes grind.
You’ve lost the plot then. Ten thousand drinks… Instantly? Only if you buy them, read the OP not just the title.
You’re complain about grinding for COMESTICS. They’re entirely optional, and no one force you to do so. No one is going to crap on you for not having one. You won’t die without it. You choose to commit to the grind yourself, and even though ANet has been a kitten lately, don’t stab yourself and blame it on them.
I’m not complaining about effort grind I’m against Gold Grind. Gold is what Anet have designed these skins to cost, not effort. Gold is an important point here because removing gold from the economy is how you force more gem sales. I’m absolutely against the FreeToPlay style since I paid for this game. Effort is OK, requiring skill is OK, making the game a credit card simulator is 100% what I’m against.
Ok, I understand when people complain about grinding for max stats, or items that are required to have optimal performance, but cosmetics have ALWAYS been grindy in the Guild Wars games, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that in my opinion. It’s no different to obsidian armour in GW1, you did not need it to perform to the max as you could get the stats easily, it was purely a cosmetic choice.
Anet has always had the philosophy of making cosmetics hard/time consuming to get, this is nothing new. As others have said, if you do not want to do the grind don’t do it. You are only missing out on a skin.
Unfortunately, Anet have started making max stats harder/more time consuming to get, which IS a change of direction from their original philosophy. But claiming that grinding for cosmetics is a new direction is completely wrong.
Obsidian armor doesn’t fit here as these are seasonal items. The short windows create a very specific demand spike and the materials required stop dropping after the event ends. The closest comparison would be Selfless Potion as mentioned above, which I completed and could have completed Selfish as well if I’d wanted. Both were attainable with dedicated play durning the event.
What Anet have done differently since HoT is make everything a gold sink while shutting off the liquid gold taps. Removing dungeon gold and requiring gold to open fractal encryptions as well as requiring gold plus tokens to obtain items from vendors.
They are testing the waters here like they did with the designed Fractal loot nerf. Anyone who believes the drop rates were a mistake needs only look at the time it took them to address it.

I agree 10k drinks is ridiculous, but I understand that vanity items should be hard to get. But I want this title. A booze title is always great.
10k is A LOT of drinks. Even 1k drinks would’ve been A LOT of drinks but much more reasonable. The number should’ve been the average amount that could be gathered from playing every day for the entire event.
Jumping puzzle is also required to get winter’s presence. This is another unfortunate trend since HoT. Platforming seems to be an emphasis since HoT.
Honestly I don’t have the same aversion to JPs you do and think adding skill requirements is OK. The item could of been entirely skill based and I would’ve accepted it even if it meant I lost our on it. My issue is the insane amount of gold sinks thrown into every part of the game.
I’m not dismissing your hatred of jumping puzzles I just didn’t think represented a threat to the game like these sinks do. Fractal encryptions even require gold to open, it’s everywhere.
How does this has anything related to Heart of Thorn? Why do you feel the need to post this in the HoT section?
Also it’s optional grind dude, you know if you cant handle it then dont go for it. Plenty others will suck it up and get it eventually, if you can’t. Well except that you just not going to get it.
It’s post HoT as was Nightfury and is the new direction Anet are taking the game. Pretty much exactly what I said in my OP.
The effects on Nightfury and Winter’s Presence are cool but both items reflect the new direction of Anet, GRIND. The Winter’s Presence requires 10,000 drinks which will require players to buy them from the trading post as no one is getting 10,000 of them from drops, no one. Adding something cool is great but I’m skipping this one as I skipped Nightfury as both make me angry that these epic gold sinks made it through whatever passes for quality control at Anet these days.
This used to be the anti-grind MMO, that’s the game I paid for, you know, before you made it Free to Play. Look back at your old promo vids, look yourselves in the mirror and ask yourselves, is this fun?

Takes almost nothing away from the game development since it is a separate teamThe main criticisms I have, is that we need more earnable skins in game and the balance is skewed. But since the teams on each have separate and dfferent workloads, i can understand that issue arising. I also find the pricing to be too high. As a retailer i can see that there are greater opportunities to be had from a better pricing system and removing rng from things like dye packs.

Twice the armors the expansion contained have already been released in the store. This game used to BTP and the gem store took over their focus leading to MY game that I paid for being given away. The game is no longer Buy To Play it’s a Freemium MMO and that isn’t good. So yes the store hurt the game. They will give the expansion away to get new people buying gems it’s all they care about.
Wow. My thief has been sat since HoT. You think thief is OP now you really should’ve seen them when I could chain stealth and laugh while doing it.
Thief is the worst profession in the game in all game modes and it’s sad.
100% pure passive immunity is a bad mechanic.
A less hateful version of the exact same trait was removed from Engineer due to it being terrible design.
Change the trait to something much more clever like reduced condi damage per condition on the Elementalist.
Pure immunity traits have no place in a competitive game.
This trait is the only significant concern with balance at the minute, as it is the only thing which completely hardcounters half of all potential builds.
You’re saying this one trait which isn’t new is the only issue that needs to addressed in PvP….
In case you didn’t know, rangers, warriors, mesmers, guardians just to name half, have immunity skills or abilities but good luck on your witch hunt.

All I am hearing is complaining from players who play OP Condi builds because they can’t 1 shot an ele. ANET pls nerf DS so I can now be OP and broken vs everything.
ELE having DS means that I can no longer be carried by my broekn build so if the ele is better than me which is probably true becasue I am a FOTM player than I must complain to ANET for nerf so I can has easy mode.

That being said HoT really is lacking content and a lot of stuff like the story or the fact that we got very few new skins ingame make it seem rushed. Still liking the game but as far as expansions are concerned Heavensward should have won by a country mile.Nope, Heaven sword release(3.0) has no where near as much content as HoT, It has 3 maps(including a city), a few skills for each class no where near specs of hot of course and end game is still the same token grind.
It did however come with 3 new jobs/classes and a new race. Features, at this point, 10 new dungeons and 3 raids. Seems like more content than HoT to me.
That’s because it does have more actual content and more features. Plus their quaterly patches are about the size of a whole living world season in GW2. Also it’s called Heavensward, not Heaven’s Sword.
edit: forgot to mention the festivals. instead of only 2 major ones that are usually just copy/paste XIV actually has a ton of unique festivals with new rewards each year and pretty well put together questlines.
I’m not doubting that ANet loves their game but something seems to be amiss with their management considering the difference in new content between those two games.
You mean how GW2 is a B2P game funded by box sales and potential (but not guaranteed) gem store sales, meanwhile FFXIV is funded by a monthly required subscription on top of it’s boxed sales and expansion boxed sales? That kind of makes all the difference in content output and quality.
Not anymore. Anet made Guild Wars 2 a Freemium MMO this summer. It’s no longer B2P. Everyone posting paid for something that was then given away. I’d never have touched this game if it was announced it would go FTP. The rest of you may not feel ripped off but I sure as hell do.
If you spend 90% of your time in PvE which the OP clearly does then you might think it’s the league that brought this out. PvP is always the hub of trash talk in any game and especially in GW2. In PvE players run by and rez you and give you a helping hand and that’s great but the league and the legendary backpiece have brought the PvE players into the lion’s den. You can always turn /m chat off in PvP you know. Problem resolved.
I recall my Engi turrets being called a passive skill that had no place in PvP. Grabbing my popcorn while the community turns on guardians

I think one of the biggest things that makes DS too strong is that condi’s can’t even by applied above the threshold.
I suggest making DS pulse 1 second of resistance every second (or more?) on the ele while he/she is inflicted with a condition.
I believe this to be a good middle ground between both sides.
What you’re suggesting would obliterate the trait and its completely unnecessary.
I’ll give you a pro tip on dealing with diamond skin Eles, crack the effect with burst. Seems straightforward right? Most players I run across throw Condi at my Ele 1st which is a mistake. The players who cause me issues run hybrid and deal strong direct damage (cracking my diamond skin) and then Condi bomb. The best at this are cele signet necromancers and pistol Engis although the later are pretty rare now.
If you’re having issues change your build. Deal strong enough direct damage to get an Ele to 89% then overwhelm them with Condis. The Ele will be busy clearing those conditions but since you’re hybrid you can keep dealing direct damage and conditions keeping them below the threshold. If you’re running 100% condition or 100% direct damage builds of course you’re going to struggle with them, they’re bunker builds.
Good Eles will reset the fight but you won’t be getting your lunch money stolen anymore.

Welcome to the new and improved free to play business model; toxic behavior goes hand in hand with f2p like cookies and cream. Plus the release of HoT and all it’s attached elitism has turned what I once considered the most friendly MMO community into another typical cess pit. I think you can firmly put the blame for this change all on Anet’s shoulders so feel free to thank em for that.

Shouldn’t have been pips in the first place. You win a game, you gain a pip, you lose a game, you lost all your progress. Why couldn’t they simply just make it simple and add points instead? In LoL you can win 30, lose 26, so you earned 4. This will keep on adding up until your mmr falls so low below your division, that you lose MORE than you win. And the only way to fix is to win a lot. /rant?
If you didn’t lose pips matches would last 20 seconds because one side would always throw a match, everyone would be diamond, and PvP would be far worse.
I’m perfectly fine about that they’re not going to die in a 1vs1, or even 1vs2. I’m fine that people found a way to make a mesmer bunkerish, I’m also very fine about Anet sayin they’ll shake the meta in every season balance patch. I’m fine with everything except for, why are some skills upon use, not contributing to point-capping, when you have literally a zombie bunker mesm that can hold a node all game. It’s an easy fix-around, just tweak and tune it whenever they spam all the aids, they won’t contribute to the point.
NA ESL pro league = 2 bunker mesm each game, so much fun. Why is ANET letting this happen?
This is not even a problem about adapting to the changes or learn to play issue. It’s simply just aids spreading faster than it spreads in Africa.
They obliterated turret engis just wait until you see what happens to mesmers. Mesmer and thief always get nerfed they’re the two constants in GW2.
I ran turrets too well and much QQ followed. “Run a real build you scrub you aren’t a real player” they cried. So I ran Condi Trap Ranger and it was too good they said. “Your traps are OP run a real class you scrub”. And Rangers lost the ability to throw traps.
So I run Diamond Skin Ele and Bunker Mesmer and Bunker Engi so all will be nerfed just to kitten you all.

Match making is alright, the chances of being a soloquer fighting premades is really rare (never happens to me unless i wueue with a buddy and im in ruby…) And then theres balance lol… Seems the main 2 classes that people kitten way too much about is rev and mesmer, even though nobody ever says what is or how they’re op. These same guys say all elite specs need to be brought be brought down to berserker or thieves thieves level, lol. If anything thief and warrior needs to be brought up if u ask me. And then theres alot of people qqing about this meta. But if somebody specced themselves to be a bunker, shouldnt they be lasting long instead of being insta downed by 3. No wonder anet doesnt even read these forums anymore

I suggest doing away with the pure bunker scrapper build and get more involved in the team fights. Often times lately when I’m getting teams line the ones you’re describing I find the best approach is to hold their hand through the whole match. Call targets for them. Call rezze’s for them. Secure stomps because they won’t. Rotate to support them so they don’t feed an enemy point. Etc etc I use an HGH rifle/nade/elixirs scrapper build for this. It’s not meta but it’s not far from it and definitely effective for solo Q
I use bunker in Solo Q because at least my random collection of whatevers running YOLO builds will have at least one in the comp. I ran some premades after posting this and went on a win streak vs “superior” ranked comps (at least their ratings) so it’s effective. I just can’t solo Q anymore it’s done.

Have you ever thought that you are just bad at the game and have low mmr? I know this is crazy to you but.. you are probably bad at the game too if you get matched with newbies.

My matchmaking since League began is a joke (on me). I have always solo Q’d and am used to getting bad teams but with your disastrous FTP scheme and the influx of bads who think they can play it’s been unbearable. What I mean about the bads is the type of player who yells at a decap engi for decapping. I mean when did this become a thing? New players (clearly) who never bothered to learn the game before joining ranked matches shouting at the one player actually doing what they’re supposed to do.
I run a bunker scrapper I hold home but rotate far when I get a 1v3 on my point and no help from these donkeys and hold far, this is how you PvP, not stay and die for the hell of it. I guess my MMR says I’m worth 3 players because all I get are new (I refrained) players or bad ones, but I’ve also been getting the new style of bad, the guy who knows nothing but screams like a baboon.
Enjoy league as many of you either cheat the system by throwing (I don’t blame you) or get great teams because Anet’s system loves you. If they’re trying to make me quit by skull- kittening me with kitten matchmaking GG them, it’s working.
I’ve had 1 mini, the armor precursor items, and the Greatsword drop from Vale. The Greatsword was a good drop but even if it never drops you can buy from the vendor. The system has a failsafe built in that I appreciate, it removes the possibility of getting nothing. I’ve raided for a long time in many games and still think about the drops I didn’t get in games I’ve long since quit. This system seems very fair. It might take quite a few runs to get enough marks, but everything is attainable.
The one gripe I have about the raid loot (and its a big one) is that masterwork level gear drops in raids. Are you kidding me Anet? This is endgame you do not populate the loot table with fluff. At minimum every drop in raids should be exotic, and ascended should mats and gear should be common drops.
I like the system, it’s been good to me so far, but junk drops shouldn’t ever be in raids. Masterwork is for open world, not endgame.
I’m getting stomped by the matchmaking. Not nearly as bad as your luck but anyone defending this system is abusing it imo. Rank has nothing to do with skill it’s all about matchmaking. Only way to avoid it is to group, I’m done solo queing.
Since the start I’ve been grouped with absurd teams vs actual teams and premades. Bad players are one thing but some have to have been throwing as well. No one can be that bad at PvP it’s not hard.
Solo que needs to be brought back immediately and this MMR system must be re-written
