There are no exclusive skin tones at this time. Only eyes and hair. But it could be nice.

Well humans and norn are fairly limited (although I guess they could just get tattoos) but Charr and Sylvari have a lot of potential variety there.

Beards, scars, piercings, tattoos – anything. It’s about time they introduce more customisation points for humans and other races anyway :/

I’m not saying no one should be able to get it, the method I used to get it as well as everyone else that has it, is still the same. Open the ToT bags and hope for luck. I am saying that the way of getting it does not need to change.

“My need for exclusivity?”, not even close. It’s everyone’s thoughts of self-entitlement. I didn’t play the game back then or I’m not lucky enough to get it like everyone did, is not a reason to change how it is acquired.

This doesn’t justify the horrible, horrible droprates at all. I have one but I hated every hour I put into the game to get it. I didn’t have fun with halloween because it was always a “you have to farm now” thing. You can’t compare the speed of bags farmed atm – It’s far harder or more expensive than on halloween.

Now, sure I could have ignored it but the only things I really wanted to collect are minis. I was at a point where I lacked like 3 minis including gwynn… I felt forced to farm him. That’s why I hated it.
And I hated it even more when they started to force me into pvp with the god kitten llamas. Tbh they can take all new minis and put them somewhere where the sun never shines by now.

Do I sound bitter? I sure am when it comes to minis.

I have nothing against them bringing back tribal or stalwart through means in which they were originally obtained, rank gated pvp.
HOWEVER, they should also bring back ALL of the other items which are no longer obtainable without huge amounts of gold on the TP. All the halloween skins, molten jetpack, wings of the sunless, shattered holographic dragon wings, Monocle head item, etcetc.

If you guys want to take away prestige for PvPers lets make it fair and remove it for PvEers too. Lets see how many agree to that.

That is exactly what the people want regarding unobtainable items. Everyone should have the chance to get them. And it doesn’t lead to zombies riding dinosaurs like all those “prestigeous players” preached – Just look at the devil horns.

Minor trait which doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned.

C&D is rather situational in it’s unlimited stealth too. Cause it requires you to land a melee attack with a rather long cast time to apply stealth. Block, Blind, Evade, Invulnerability or plain Miss will cause a huge loss of initiative without giving you stealth.

Sorry, my bad I was actually refering to the master in acrobatics as GummiBear pointed out. And that’s still a rather potent trait even if you can guess where the cc hits. Remember you can stunbreak while stealthed to avoid the AoE and even if you eat the dmg as a stealth thief I always take -% dmg while stealthed. That trait is pretty much the most potent directly defensive thing thief has.

Also, are you aware that you can start C&D then either stealth, signet or if you aim good shadowstep to the target to basically instahit them? Most of the time that’s pretty reliable even against guards with all the blocks as they have a hard time timing them.

Also @Jitters: Movement skills are movement skills. Stop being stuck up on dashes now to try and make your argument belivable. I dodged AoEs with heartseeker a few times – 450 range is more than enough. And shortbow is still the #1 subhand in PvP for movement and dodges/ranged pressure.
You seem to be really self-entitled. If you don’t want to join the discussion in a normal manner, showing the respect you want to recieve towards others aswell, please step away and stop posting here. Thank you.

You HAVE a thief. You just don’t PLAY it. Big difference.

I play thief. At level 10 i went straight to wvw. I have 2 reliable stealth skills. Shadow refuge on 60 second cooldown. Blinding powder on 45 second cooldown. That isn’t a small amount of cooldown.

The comment of any aoe skill is kitten rights applicable. Shadow refuge shows everyone where you are. I’ve been hit with tons of aoe damage. The worst is when i get feared (necro fear. Ranger pet fear warrior fear) or knocked out (like the mesmer great sword knock back ) and into reveal with a 60 second skill on cooldown. A lot of melee weapons cleave or just hit multiple people.

I’ve also been revealed by engineers, and stealth ttraps. Wow. So many ways to hit me or reveal me from stealth.

Dashes on every main hand weapon? Hahahhahahaha.
Second highest movement speed? Hahahahahahaha
Like I said. You have a thief. You don’t play one.

All you did was read every trait line and pretended a thief had access to all traits at the same time. I have zero movement speed.

You need to l2p and l2read before posting such garbage.

Watch this. It is a link to a fight where my group was outnumbered. Near the end when i shadow refuge you will see how much aoe hits us and how big an aoe radius can be. Ps. The voice isn’t mine. My buddy who was on ts.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_r-e6ixUMCc

Watch this video. A zerg stops my taking of stone mist. When i shadow refuge you can see how much damage i take. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_poGo6mWygc

Shadow refuge is just a big target sign saying hit here. But it can still be useful.
Cool thing huh? I can refute your false statements with video.

However, the black powder heart seeker combo should give 4 seconds of stealth then 4 seconds of reveal even if no attack was made. That is the one thing that should be implemented for that one skill. If done right, i can remove all conditions and be full health every time i decide to de stealth and attack.

Pps. Stealth on steal is broken and has been broken for a long time. So like I said. Only 2 reliable stealth skills.

Err what? Cloak and Dagger allows you to have near unlimited stealth, there’s hardly only 2 stealth skills with huge cd. Never mind also the minor trait a stealth thief has that stealths if cc’d.
Also every thief weapon has a form of movement if you want to use them this way. Dagger has Heartseeker, Pistol with Dagger has a Shadowstep you can hop through various enemies with, shortbow has it’s #5 and sword has a sideward evade which still gives a short movement forward. Sword really is the only weapon falling flat there… I don’t think you play thief enough…

Oh and if you fight against a Mesmer and not dodge towards them in Shadowrefugee when they run/blink at you with a greatsword… A good thief knows how to proxy at the rim of SR to avoid AoEs which are usually only set on the center. There’s rarely a AoE bigger than SR.

Back on topic, I wanted to throw in another idea: A stealth delay while under fire. They would have to rewrite the whole system though to start counting after the delay even if the source of stealth would probably be gone by then. That would make stealth a more tactical decision and less of a hit and run thing.
I mean… there are a bunch of fair changes to make stealth fun AND give it counterplay. Just start thinking.

Revenant Skill Queue

in Revenant

Posted by: Akuni.8604

Akuni.8604

I figured it out. The invocation line first trait “Swirling Mists” is the problem. Using a skill summons an orbiting globe of mist when you spend energy. This extra effect counts like a skill in the queue eating up the second skill that was queued.

It should be noted that the engineer trait “Static Discharge” has the same issue with the static discharge being placed in the queue and canceling out the second queued skill. (Note: It’s likely that any trait that causes a cast/summon creates this issue! It would be a good idea to review any traits that cast/summon and confirm the behavior.)

This is however a much bigger problem with the Revenant since the trait “Swirling Mists” is unavoidable when taking the Invocation line.

I really hope we will see this fixed in the next beta.

Props to finding that one. Nice one.

Eh you ask for a movement impairing effect and then complain it’s not easy enough to keep the enemy moving for torment… Shouldn’t you ask for something like a knockback? :p
That compared with Jalis’ Taunt could at least give you reliable Torment ticks.

That said, off-hand axe has a nice leap and a pull already. It’s definitly different from Necro Scepter/whatever but I still think it’s not a bad set. Might need some higher numbers and I’d love to have the blasts tighter together so hitting 2 explos is reliable and not gimmicky but that’s just me.

Yes, other classes lost damage from stats as well, but other classes did not lose damage to the level that ranger did.
[…]
No, in fact other classes that did not have damage boosting traits gained them.

‘Scuse me but Ele want’s to have a word with you. And Necro which still get’kitten with every patch.

This didn’t actually do what you are saying though. Every build requires remorseless, most require quick draw, and if you want condition cleanses you have to take wilderness survival. The new trait system does allow for build diversity, but the traits themselves that are available for ranger do not. You will also never get rid of the tendency towards meta, as you already have that going on with this new system. Please, just get the stars out of your eyes from the shiny new system and look at the actual problems with the current available traits, as well as the problems with damage that it is causing.

Also, your point was basically “the current system has more potential for fun builds” which is correct, I will not argue that, but the traits themselves totally screw that up, so its just wasted potential, followed by “other classes are having problems too, right, so its not just you” which is horribly inaccurate because no other class completely lost viable builds.

You only need those lines with a power build. Condition builds can vary without Marksmanship. You can also run Support with Nature Magic and whatnot. Or go the Pet bunker way (Which is still slightly bugged atm).
If you just focus on the berserker power build you won’t find a class with 2 even builds as there’s always the best being meta.

He has a legit opinion there. Stop bashing on him just because your opinion doesn’t align.

Are we done with thiefs and mesmers throwing the L2P and other snarky comments? Yes? Good.

Now, it is true that stealth lacks counterplay in that you can’t target something that you can’t see. And therefore all the reveals will be useless against good thiefs if they are not AoE. In fact we should just trash the current reveal system.

My suggestion is to give stealth a periodic “Here I am. Now I’m gone” mechanic. That can be done through particles (dust from footsteps and whatnot), sound cues and the stealth giving you visibility from time to time (think of leaving a translucend snapshot of your char every few seconds (like 10 i.e.) that poofs shortly after (1/2 sec or lower). This would give you the possibility to say “He went there” but also gives you a juking potential plus that stuff goes 11/10 with the getting stalked feeling.)
Plus… we could allow chaining stealth without the “cd duration” then… That would be awsome.

If that’s not enough to counter stealth we can think of including reveal again. I would go with a buff that gives you a small AoE of revealing though. That’s more in line with highened senses and less binary (wait it out or jump stab from the range you’re still invisible).

Can you keep anything Revenants finds?

They basically made a safestate of your account/bank when the beta started. Beta character only uses this safestate which will then be deleted at the end. Therefore whatevery you get is lost and you’re not able to give new items to your beta char since the safestate does not update (example: You can’t craft sinister gear and give it via the bank after finding out sinister is not choosable on the beta items). It’s not really the most elegant solution.

However, it’s not really okay if you’re forced into Reaper because Reaper is okay and base Necro is not. They really need to do some adjustments there.

It does not belong to shortbow as shortbow is about skirmishing and applying condis. RF is a continous dps pressure skill which fits perfectly into the playstyle of Longbow.
If you are not happy with how shortbow plays out, stop using it. Both bows are awsome as is, no reason to gut Longbow again.
I mean come on “Volley should be on LB” – Totally a close combat skirmishing skill fits perfectly on a kiting weapon which has a get off me button…

Okay, so you’re complaining about the warhorn even though it could have litterally ANY SKILLS. It makes no sense to me.

Your only arguments are ‘warhorns look bad’ and ’warhorn’s animations are bad’, which I don’t think it’s true, but it’s a matter of personal prefrence. You should at least wait for the tempest to be properly revealed before complaining….

To be honest though, if you want to quit the game just because of one of your elite specialisations getting the warhorn as an optional weapon, then please do. I just think it’s very silly.

This is totally taken out of context. Please at least try to read through arguments before pushing them aside as nonsense as this gives zero input into the discussion.

There are several people who said already how warhorn fits the AoE and buff theme and that’s precisely not what the ele needs as elite spec which is meant to give you a new playstle.

And that’s on top of the warhorn being limited animationwise while also mostly having horrendous skins.

Stop being childish.

Well, jumping, rolling, and dodging is hardly something you can attribute to a sword either. Those things are mostly attributed to the character and how they utilize their weapon, not the weapon itself. You can have rolling, sidestepping, etc with a warhorn, after all.

And again, with these arguments about animations, it’s hardly fair when you’re overlooking all the recycled animations, redundant animations and weak particle effects. I mean, what about bows? All those animations are is point the bow forward and pull the string, point the bow up and pull the string, point the bow sideways and pull the string and pull the string faster and that’s across all professions that use them. You can hardly just look at animations for skills, especially ones that likely have wider effects. For those skills, it’s the particle fx that are the center point, not simply how the characters move.

I honestly don’t feel warhorn is a good idea as a elite spec weapon for anyone. They should stick with the sword or whatever else. Just not warhorn.

You say stick with? What makes you believe they were going that route but decided to change last minute?

Well I can also make up a bazillion arguments if I only respond to like half the other argument…

That aside, it does link to the weapon. If I block an attack with a sword there are a few possible animations: sidestep away from the blade (An evade) or pushing the enemy blade away, leaving the enemy open (Possible debuffs like weakness or vulnerability, short daze). Or I could just counter the blow of course.
Now let’s see the warhorn: If I dodge (An evade) it’s usually just the character moving except for the rare case of “I propel myself with the windenergy from my horn!” – Which falls to the kitten y 12-year-old cartoonish animations that don’t fit GW2 at all. Other movement skills? Pretty much the same. There’s really just blowing and hitting left.

Also, since you blissfully ignored that point: stances. I could lock out the sub-hand skills while performing a two-handed stab with a 1-handed sword. I can pose like a fencer with a small body window open and the sword pointing to the vital organs of my enemy. I can also have a more hunched together and relaxed sword-pose which is good at catching enemy blows from below and pushing them to the side. I figure you never watched different swordstyles, right? Compare that with a warhorn which is just… Well I guss I’m holding it in one hand. Or I can try to two-hand blow into it for a more cartoonish look while screwing myself over because my body would be wide open.
No. Warhorn has a lot less animation possibilities. That’s a fact. Deal with it.

I also want to highlight that the way you draw an arrow (From the back or from your leg depending where you have your quiver) aswell as lining up 1 or more arrows at the same time can be pretty different animations. Just because Anet was more than lazy with Bows is not an argument. It just shows how much potential future bow-wielders could have.

Oh ans “stick with or whatever” as in if they had sword, keep it if not take something else. I’m not set on sword, I’d gladly take axes, pistols and whatnot. Pushing phrasings is not a way you make yourself more valuable in a conversation. As many people with expierience on the web can assure you – Rule #1 of What do if you can’t win an argument: If you have no argument left against someone on the interwebs, insult his grammar!

Speculation: Don't let ele spec be warhorn!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Akuni.8604

I’ll be on the fence if it’s really a Warhorn spec too. I never liked warhorns. They offer very limited potential for animations (Blow it, whack someone with it) while other weapons have jumps, rolls, sidesteps and all the different wielding stances. Warhorn suffers the same issues Torch has (animationwise you either whack something or you throw it) and Focus (That one basically has no animation at all besides “Wave you hand there”). Try to imagine a NEW and FUN animation for warhorn that doesn’t look like a kitten y idea of a 12 year old. I’ve been trying for years now and I simply can’t find anything – That weapon is just plain boring animationwise.

And no, seeing as someone pointed out warhorn is not underused: The only warhorn which is really getting some spotlight right now is necro because it’s his only reliable movement speed AND has a reliable daze. Spectral walk is more or less gimmicky and signet of locust… Well good luck with that one…
Ranger? One is a cast and forget pressure skill which can be outdone by every other main and offhand, the other is a AoE buff which, frankly, doesn’t have much value right now as a ranger generally HAS the tools to get might, fury and speed through traits. Heck, you can even have the skill without the warhorn equipped with clarion bond now. There’s really no reason to use warhorn on ranger.
Warrior? It was nice when it actually had a use with curing conditions and mobility but the patches left warr in a state where you almost never need the extra support of warhorn. Again, there’s rarely if ever a reason to take warhorn aside from a gimmicky shoutbow build in PvP.

Also, thinking about what elite specs SHOULD offer (“They should change how a class funktions and plays”) there’s not much new you can have with the warhorn. AoE and fields? Staff territory. Close range cone attacks? Dagger territory. AoE buffs? Auras weaved all into the kit do that, along with traits. Also that’s one of the most boring playstyles ever AND is already now an issue in PvP (Celestial tank, anyone?).
Sword on the other hand could give you another new playstyle if you for example go the thief/mesmer route and make it more evasive/fencer-esque.

I honestly don’t feel warhorn is a good idea as a elite spec weapon for anyone. They should stick with the sword or whatever else. Just not warhorn.

Yeah because WvW obviously was the only gamemode experimenting… Do you even listen to what you’re saying? They started with hybrid builds based on Valkyrie etc. Celestial wasn’t a thing from the start in WvW.
While WvW players were still calculating PvE tried it out asap.
It was not just WvW and especially how durable classes became was the reason it was jumped on in PvP when they got the amulet. Remember how Ele was sorta ‘meh’ until that change due to dying to fast to support with his utility (Everything except 1-5 faceroll staff, that is).

I have mostly found ranger players niave.

this is probably the best adjective. out of all the professions, id say rangers have the most players who think they have an amazing build but in fact are running something goofy and extremely inefficient. people just don’t test their builds enough, and unfortunately many don’t have the opportunity to play against excellent players.

Or, you know, something goofy turns out to be viable enough to flip the meta despite not being ‘the most efficient’. Especially if you look at the grand picture and not just a tiny view you want to add to your argument. Want an example?
Celestial gear on Ele. When we got it in PvE it got hated on for not having enough power etc etc. Some people still tried it on Ele and Engie (I did too, I thought it just had to work if you use all of the stats well). Time passed and it was introduced to PvP. Guess what’s the meta now…
And yes, celestial might not be the meta in PvE but it lead to a PvP flip and offers you enough viability in PvE to do stuff like solo’ing Champs easily.

Same will happen with LB, believe it or not: With the new traits this weapon revieves a buttload of damage and cc potential as does the greatsword. The rest of the weapons? They don’t get much besides more movement for PvP shenanigans.

In PvE I expect that my allies don’t die.

And yet it can happen really quick. Just take HotW p1 boss or Arah (Lupi). Both of those can deal severe damage really quick – Sometimes you just don’t have a block/evade left.

What I had in mind was rather that I don’t globally use Signet of Stone and Protect me for PvE. I sometimes use them as a training wheel for wiping phases such as Lupi that you mentioned.

But I wouldn’t call it PvE. I’d use them in risky situations (PvP,WvW,PvE alike). Not because of the environment.

Point taken though, there are rarely times when you need 3 skills and not signet of stone. It gives passive survivability and on demand invurnability to you AND your pet. It’ a pretty effective “Oh kitten ” button and makes juggling pets under heavy damage easier. Basically it’s like the warriors endure pain just better :p I gotta say I love the SoS after the always Ranger and Pet buff as 3rd utility.

@anduriell
I would like to avoid any negative feelings but…
… If you are using longbow only – there’s a bit of wrong in how you play. In efficiency that is. We all know that anything in melee range does higher DPS than a ranged spec.

That being said… It works only if everyone is in the ranged zone. Stacked. Which means it takes 4 seconds till the “ranged” group becomes melee (boss comes). And there it’s not even a question to swap for melee weapons when the boss is already in melee… Because… Melee always does more DPS.

Playing all ranged without the boss getting in melee is called kiting – which is one of the slowest strategies to take a boss down.

And if not all of you are stacking at 1 place – you are doing PvE wrong. Loosing tons of boons, you can’t DPS to full potential (cleave) and so forth. Which leads me to conclusion and a question I’d like to ask:
- Regardless of how helpful you might want to be… Don’t you think you would be ten times more useful with melee weapons? Isn’t longbow again a tool that promotes selfish comfortable playstyle, even if your intentions are to help?

Kiting is sometimes the only viable way, look at HotW p1 i.e. you don’t want nor can you stay in range for very long. His damage, especially on his AoE can drop Tanks quickly. And if you’re not kiting you’re at least hopping in and out of the fight.

So no, ranged weapons are not only selfish and useless. Also I might add that you don’t need all the boons flying around in melee range. Basically against a melee boss you’ll only need Might (Which can be stacked by a ranger himself through food, runes and sigils). Prot, Regen, other boons? If you’re good you won’t get hit so it’s not an issue.

And as others said, nothing stops you from dropping spirit in range then backing out – It’s better to put the Spirit between you and the melees anyway as that prevents the Spirits death through cleaving damage or AoEs.

The only – and really only reason – to hate on range is the movement of the boss. He aggros you? Great he’ll run from your melees and out of AoEs. Frankly that shouldn’t be an issue with a good ranger though as you can drop Aggro asap with Hunters Shot Stealth. Oh and that also means you’re effectively dealing the highest dps there. Yes, our sustained damage is super strong.

I’ve been running Longbow/Greatsword or Sword/Warhorn for as long as I played Ranger – I got flamed for taking LB, I got flamed when I changed my Pet to the bear in a condition heavy bossfight and I got flamed for simply being a ranger in the marionette fight.
Guess who survived and solo’d some bosses with high melee damage, cleansed his group from 25 stacks of confusion (Lyssa) and made p1 marionette boss super easy with the pet tanking it while everyone could freely attack from behind (fyi that boss was invul from the front).

The thing is, most of the time when people complain they are referring to ‘those rangers’ or ‘all rangers’ while blissfully ignoring that you’ll always have some bads in the mix which should not be measured as the standard.

P.S. Sorry for directing the whole post at you, I just meant to answer on your range-point. The rest was meant to be a general heads up for all naysayers.

That said, yeah we need a wider range of animation mock-up’s. It would be nice if you still need to level the class so you’ll know how it’ll look in the end beforehand.

Darker nights shouldn’t be an issue – Simply implement a “lamp slot”.

The lamp would be connected to the belt (Think Zelda: A Link between worlds) and could be toggled to create an illuminated Area around your character. That way you can always turn it on whenever you need light.

Also you can add skins to customize the look (=Profit) if you want to please the masses.

There’s no argument against that idea actually. It pleases both fronts (“we want darkness”/“we won’t”) and it’s already doable ingame (Using a flamethrower/balth backpiece/whatever).

Who needs lamp? My dual FDS light up all the darkness for me just fine. I laugh at Weyandt every time he mocks be because he turned the light off. I can still see all the rocks.

That’s what I said :p It’s possible to work around darkness already, they should just drop the “people won’t be able to see” argument and give a general way to work with it ^^

You know… If every class has a passive movement boost, what’s the reason again to not take it? And likewise wouldn’t it be smarter to just drop the boost and make ut baselibe so you don’t have to use 1 utility/trait slot which limits diversity?

The point is: Not everyone should have a movement boost. It’s for classes which need to be evasive or kite-y. Guards don’t need a perma movement boost. They have enough tools already and, as pointed out, you CAN have 100% uptime of swiftness already. You use 1 utility for that and bufffood. That’s a fair downside imo.

Can I have your signet of stone, ill gladly give you Retreat and 100% uptime with food.

That said, this discussion is way off-topic. Back to Tomes again.
I aswell think that the replacement of Tomes is for the better and yes, the currently planed alternatives are way underpowered. Renewed focus does a lot. It’s like with the Rangers Healing Spring when it comes to groupplay – If you have an option like this you either A) make the other choices equally overpowered or You split the effects to have clear up- abd downsides.

Personally I vote for B. Renewed Focus does too much currently. Compare it with let’s say Signet of Rage or Timewarp. No other elite is so awsome in comparison.

That’s why I vote for a nerf to RF and part of the mechanics being placed on the new Elites. Same goes for Healing spring, I want the condi removal on Troll Urgent and the Regen (+Protection) on Healing as One.

And yes guys, I play and maib Ranger/Guard. I know exactly what is strong on those classes but I’m not a fan of abusing op stuff to win. I want to have decisions wheter I need something against situation A or B, not a all around solution which is also overtuned.

RF is fine as it is. It does give invul and refresh long virtue cd’s. It does not give any passive nor buffs and has a long cd.

And it doesnt allow free damage like the ele earth focus 5 so no need to fix what isnt broken

Ele: You’re invul to give you much needed survivability (remember you’re basically wet paper) and you can cast skills (mostly dashes or similar becazse let’s face it you don’t need your invul if there’s no enemy in your face (.

Guard: You’re invul but you still have high toughness to survive more hits. You refresh your virtues (That’s +1 strong heal, burn application and block from aegis. And that’S WITHOUT trait bonuses like might, stability, condi cleanse, protect etc.).

You’re basically comparing apples and oranges. Why do people not use Tomes most of the time? Because RF does so many valuable things and is statistically better than the other choices.
That’s a fact. Admit it and move on, I won’t discuss with you on that matter because I can clearly see how much you like RF – Which is normal, broken things are always the most fun. But sometimes that gives you very little counterplay/downsides – This shouldn’t happen and leads to a stale game.

I made my point above. No need to further derail this thread with “But but”s.

I’m sort of torn about the Trait change. Some of my builds use minor traits in the adept slot because they are more useful to me or the build or if the adept traits are simply not good. Now, the new system seems to force you into taking exactly 1 minor, adept and grandmaster each.

Question: Did you go through all builds looking for those edgecases already or should I accept that most of my builds won’t work in the future already? And if so, why would you in general strip the game of diversity in the form of possible builds?

As I see it currently those trait changes make characters easier to balance but essentially push classes towards metabuilds even more. A good example would be the rangef or elementalist. Those rely on a big variety of traits to choose from depending on the situation – I would hate to see them having a 0815 standardbuild in the future.

Jeez I dunno if all that mud-slinging came from the other discussions or if the people in my original one went wild… anyway: Behave people :/ You’re not 5 year olds, you can do better than that. Give your arguments, reply in neutral feedback to the others. No matter if they are for or against your cause – Stay neutral.

Back to the bugs I mentioned in my initial post – Many people just shruged it off as latency issue, I just want to chime in to tell you: It’s not. Trust me, I checked. I had wireshark profiling the network as I did a few tries and while the ping always stayed between 30 and 40ms (normal, healthy ping around here) there was the occasional every-note-damages and slide-of-doom effect. Funny enough, there were rounds where i pushed my ping to 120 via streaming and stuff (on purpose) to see if it made a difference… It actually worked that time…
However I have something to add for the bug-trackers :p That bug usually appears if you join an already running round. If you’re in the match from the beginning it usually works. Also, loosing all hp in one song resets the bug and you can do fine in the next song.

Are festivals really supposed to provide content to potentially take up the entire time they’re available? I think your expectations are too high there.

Obviously there’s the perennial problem that you can’t join activities with friends, and wintersday does have more activities than any other festival. That complaint is fair enough.

Again, please actually read my post. I never said I wanted a 2 week long event which keeps me busy 24/7. I did however say that the content lasts like 3 days at max if you play casually. There should be something inbetween – Even if it’s just pretty’ing up all the cities so you can run around and take screenshots.

It is similar to the living story patches nowadays, those take about 1 or 2 days to complete if it’s just story. The rest of the 2 week scedule? You guessed it, grinding or other repetetive tasks – This is not fun. I played SMT:IO which had no endgame after ~lvl40 (while going up to 97, which was ridiculous to reach) whatsoever except for grinding expertise and levels to get better demons/skills – I’m fed up with games defining endcontent solely as “grind a lot so you get something rare”.

I have hope for the “raids” they plan, given that it could include 2 or more parties having to work together, more and bigger strategies and so on – But the question is: When will we get that? And do we only get grinding RNG stuff in the meantime?

I love GW2 to pieces – Everything from the artstyle to the class-definition with the trait system and so on is absolutley awsome. But what they do now is what many games did before – And they all ended the same way: People left and eventually the game was left in the dust. Ragnarök, Aion, Rift, SMT:IO, maybe even ArchAge. They had potential, but they all decided to put emphasis on stuff that was proven to be not-optimal before. Why? Why would you do that to your game? I know it’s hard to listen to many people at once and you can’t satisfy all – But not listening at all is generally the worse decision.

That is why I opened that topic: To give feedback what I don’t like about wintersday and to give people the possibility to do so aswell. This should not be a discussion who’s right – You usually can’t pinpoint that.

Read people, read. I stated that PvP should have access to everything that is currently PvE related aswell as PvE having access to everything currently PvP related. So all modes have the same chance or at least a way to get you something that you want.

PvE/PvP/WvW exclusive stuff just leads to people feeling left out and that’s generally not something you want in a game (Please note that some people simply can’t play PvP because they have horrible lagg because that’s the max bandwith they can get where they live. Same goes for WvW. And let alone people who are strangers to the MMO culture – they usually don’t have the reflexes nor the adaptability needed in player versus player scenarios).

That aside, please keep the topic mainly on wintersday and not mode comparison. I just picked up that point because it was part of why I don’t like current wintersday.

Thinking about it I didn’t even mention year 1 minis which were exclusive like with halloween… I guess China got them this year (as with halloween). Ugh. I thought GW2 was a game were “you can always take breaks and come back” – now, you can do that but you probably miss 2345234 items which are labeled exclusive afterwards…

So, here we go again: Wintersday #3 in the history of Guild Wars 2.

Please note that I don’t want to bash the event alltogether. I quite enjoy the moments when whole guilds participate in massive snowball fights or bell choirs. I also liked the inclusion of a whole year christmas tree where you can get gifts (Even though I think 1 per day is a bit low).

However, as it stands there are several issues that prevent me from having the most fun here…

First, I can see you worked on the jumping puzzle (Even though you just removed the midway extra present – While were at that topic: Why?), however you didn’t even bother to fix that longstanding slope/infinite fall damage bug while you were at it.

After the gusty snowman there’s a candy cane slope where you encounter that bug at a high frequency and since you loose massively hp there it’s usually impossible to finish the puzzle if you’re lucky enough to slip there… There’s nothing more frustrating than making the exploding presents 3 times just to die to that bug 3 times in a row (Yeah, that happened. I call bs on that one).

I’m pretty sure it has to do with latency between the client and the server (Which is why I, as a EU player encounter it rather often) and I think it could be fixed by a few lines of code that basically slow down the application of fall damage per second.

Another point is the bell choir ensemble. I still haven’t found out why it happens but, for some strange reason, platforms glitch out. That means that sometimes you enter one (Say for example playing the upper notes) and even though you hit every note correctly (Within the blue circle, without latency, no I’m not colorblind or misplaced my fingers) you get damaged for each note making it impossible to complete that piece of music. Usually that bug persists on the platform until the game ends. This usually happened to me on the Southeast platform btw.

Bugs aside (And the toypocalypse fiasco), there’s still so little content in this event it hurts. Doing all the achievements related to the Meta takes (Casual playtime of like 2h a day max since it’s xmas and so on) like 3 days. After that it’s basically do nothing or farm presents via the minigames. Why is there no Jack Frost worldboss thing or something else that actually keeps you busy? There are tons of ideas which are possible possible floating around – please ask your community and improve the next wintersday.

Oh and while we’re at the presents… Why did they get the Halloween pail treatment? You finally gave us an exotic aquabreather in the game and you can even choose your stats – But it’s hidden behind an abbyssmally low dropchance again…
I mean there’s no reason to make it that rare in PvE while PvP can have it 100% through the reward track. I’m all for trying out different gamemodes but I’m against forcing players into one because that’s basically the only way to get something.

That’s a trend you started with the reward tracks – I say it was the wrong decision: Content should be available in all gamemodes so you can choose whatever playstyle you want. PvP should have all the rewards like dragonite ore and items that PvE can farm but nothing exclusive. This is the whole PvE has everything, PvP get’s the short end of the stick thing reversed – That’s not how you fix that issue as you’ll have to reverse it again in the future when the other side complains until the end of days.

So please, stop with the super low RNG, give us something more to enjoy on wintersday and patch out those bugs for the next year so that everyone can actually enjoy all parts of the game.

P.S. The wintersday decoration is always fixed to 1 city, the rest of Tyria should decorate aswell (Like LA and whatnot). Also I’d be all in for more snow in the cities (Since we basically didn’t have snow on christmas for years now) which’d cover all the ground and not just some patches. I mean It could snow naturally, like in some Shiverpeak maps – That’d be rads.

So long,
cheers and happy holidays.

Eh that new patch bugged a lot of stuff in the Silverwastes. For example while we were defending Blue Oasis yesterday there spawned 8 (eight!) Veterans with that orange Mark associated to the “Kill the Mordrem” Event. It was carnage having like 3 Trolls and Terrathingies… I was so busy surviving I couldn’t get a screen… Even better: They stayed when the “Defend Blue Oasis” Event occured but lost their orange mark. Needless to say we couldn’t hold that keep ._.

…I think you should take a look on your new scaling and stuff…

Edit: Readon I mention scaling is because we were like 6-8 people. The amount of mobs spawning there on tier 2 was excessive.

Um could have sworn I saw people talking about mad memories return and doing it just this past halloween season. It was all over the subreddit. Anyways, ya Gaile, have them bring back the bunny ears and make sure they put in the ride rim glasses. Crucial black Friday sales potential right here.

You could get the 1st 3 pages because the npcs were left ingame. However the majority was removed and only appeared in the china client. That’s why I said china got the event but it was cut out for our regions. So I wouldn’t bet on a reappearing item. Then again I’m just used to being let down by Anet I guess…

First off I own the ears and I wouldn’t mind making them obtainable again.

But I’ll also be that guy reminding you (mainly Anet) about the witch hat, santa cap and mad memoirs… Whenever those events come around a vast majority speaks for the inclusion but yet again halloween passen with less than optimal solutions (got better but please explain me why china had the mad memoire event while it was scrapped from our version? That was cheap!)

Just saying, don’t get your hopes up since as it seems Anet values the few (like 5) players opinion on being special snowflakes over the masses. :/

My personal first order of business would be to rally the troops (boy those workers are slow!) to repair this icon. It just makes me so sad.

Dunno if you noticed but those workers don’t even know how to use a pickaxe the proper way. I mean, look at that Charr worker near the old mystic toiled plaza: She swings it backwards (so far so good) to hit the pile of rocks in front of her – However midswing she decides it’s more fun to use the pick sideways instead of how a normal person would swing it. In the end I guess that’ll take 235years and 54days longer than with the usual method .-.

2) Open World PvP? I have lost track of the number of games that have introduced Open World PvP as the solution to falling numbers. In fact it is the beginning of the end; it has the opposite effect – it gives an initial boost to the player base but this increase tend to be gankers and griefers and the player base then drops off as the PvE players leave as they get fed up with being ganked, then the gankers leave as there is no-one left to gank.

Just wanted to chime in and say this exactly. I hate open world PvP because simply there are times where you want to relax and you simply can’t in a perma-pvp situation so you’re either bound to (potentially) just low level pvp-free zones or you don’t get to relax at all. That sucks.
I’m fine with how PvP is designed in GW2 – You freely decide when you want to do it, no one ganks you. Meanwhile, a duel option could be fine – Just add a auto-decline feature for it if people hate being spammed by them.

POIs Vistas and the lot are not shown because they are not part of the 100% Worldmap counting… Which is strange because eh… it’s part of the world, no?

So yeah, I support the idea of finally sticking those zones into the world as a whole. It doesn’t hurt people who had 100% as they keep the title and honestly it’s not a lot of effort for players without the 100% already. You’re sort of pushed into Dry Top for the story and with South Sun Cove… I guess theres the Karka Queen and 2 jumping puzzles? (That’s a hint that you need more stuff in Southsun, btw <_<)

It’s the same with the SAB boomboxes. I lost count how many people requested them being louder but alas, even though we got that “we’re looking into it” post nothing happened. At maxed out instrument sound those boom boxes are not as loud as a flute and not even half as loud as the trumpet…

It’s also a shame those 10 clips are less than 1min long. I remember our LPs going for hours. Even more if you switched sides .-. So far I think this item is grossly overpriced for what if offers – It doesn’t even loop the stuff, it’s simply gimmicky soundeffects :<

This is just luck, tons and tons of luck.

I agree. With Liadri you had to do something and no matter what, RNG played no role at all. Pattern was always the same, time stayed the same – You name it.

No matter how easy you paint Liadri to be, THAT was the right definition of gating content. Not hiding it behind a freaking sub-precoursor percentage.

[…]

Why do i feel myself now like a second class player, knowing that the Chinese Players on their Server got the Mad Memoires active working in their Client Version cause its their first Halloween, when Anet should treat us all the same like and the reason why alot of things get currently repeated is due to the Chinese people having the game now also too and are able to do now all the stuff, that we had 2 years ago basically.

Whats so hard about it to brign back this one single BackPiece.
You even brought back finally this year the Pumpkin Carver Achievement/Title back, which you didn’t have done last year, so that alot of people who missed that in the first year could finally get it this year done.

I really hope, that we will see the MM gettign finally reactivated and normal functionizing in its way of receiving it within the next week, before Halloween ends this year. That they just hold the MM only back for something to do in the last week of this years Halloween.

[…]

And that’s the point were all the arguments regarding “not fitting into this story” go poof. They have a functioning version with a mirrored event already, but instead cut it out for our release. You could have saved the time it would have taken deleting that piece of code, you know ArenaNet :/

Also yeah, I remember people being “Nu uh it’s my special title I don’t want anyone to have eeeeet” last year, but strangely there was no Riot whatsoever this year… I guess beringing back old stuff is not like opining the gates of hell after all, hah. And here I thought we’d have giant fire-breathing quaggans riding on the elder dragons when the title was introduced again.

It would be a really nice move to include the quest again next tuesday. A really, really nice move. People like nice moves. They tend to be benevolent if you’re nice to them (Oh shock!), eh…

So… You’re saying opening tens of thousands to millions of bags isn’t effort, when others open a stack and get it?

I am saying it is an effort, and a time/money/effort investment that i put in, i just don’t get why people complain after opening 10 stacks or so is all.

People open over thousands of bags (And I did too) and there’s still the chance to get nothing because apparently the droprate is below a precousors. No one acts spoiled and entiled here except for a few exceptions who think this stuff is okay (Get the hint) – They are simply staying realistic.

Look at Liadri: She was obtainable twice so far and yet not everyone runs around with her. Why? Because you did need some strategy and skill to get her. That’s exactly how those things should be gated – You should show some skill in fighting/jumpingpuzzles or whatnot. Not as is being “one of the lucky ones”.

The main matter is not only is the drop rate extremly low it’s the fact that a RNG mini is account bound. It should be trade able as well for some that are not so lucky to get it via bags.

I see you are a legendary collector, what if precursors became soul bound on finding.

That exactly. That’s why people are upset – And they are right about being upset.
