yay, looks like this time they did it right! It sounds cool, can’t wait (and glad I converted to gems earlier).
I wish the respawn rate would slow down, considerably.
One thing I miss from GW1 is being able to exterminate everything in an area, allowing interruption-free enjoyment of the scenery.
Slowing down the respawn would also help deter botters/farmers, so maybe we can be rid of DR too.
You can guest to any euro server, from the login screen (“World Selection”), without deleting your characters.
Guesting is free, you can do anything as a guest except WvW.
I believe the RP-friendly server in euro is Piken Square.
I’d recommend playing on servers that are active in your time zone.
From there, you can figure out what guild(s) might suit you.
That is, if you are in europe, you are better off staying on euro servers in their active hours, than playing in NA when everyone’s ready for bed. Even if you do transfer to a server across the world that’s busy round the clock, they are much less likely to run guild events in the off-peak hours.
I generally take the time to check others out when waiting for a world event, pausing at a vista, or sorting through the bank.
It’s pretty amazing the variety of costumes available; with all the dyes possible I rarely see duplicates and most I can never figure out what combo.
It’s also sad to see so many with the basic Pearl weps (unless it matches the outfit); I won’t equip them until I have the skin I want to transmute to.
Ironically, the more people vote for these cool toys, the more likely they’ll end up in RNG boxes.
The one thing that matters the most (for a casual player like myself), is that it’s always potentially available (ie not limited-time-only).
OP, it sounds like you are dealing with a D/P build.
The simplest way for a Necro to win, is move the fight to a cliff, and Fear the kittener off it.
aw I do miss Ink Shot .. and that Descent of Shadows stacking ..
wonderful travelling tools.
can see why they were nerfed, but they were fun!
and nice compilation, one should view this more as a “nostalgia” thread than a platform for complaints.
I don’t read these forums very often, can someone tell me what Unicorn means?
Unicorn refers to a DB-spam build that’s ideal for non-stealth trolling with almost limitless evasions.
Here’s Lowell’s basic build, it’s from last year but the principles still apply:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQRAoY4Ylcm6OXeS6E+5ECXBL07xXNWoV3jrSrqKA;TwAg2Croay0koJbTumkNt+Y8xeh5CA
With this update’s reduced DB cost, all Unicorn variants got a nice buff.
(on the other hand, the only “Unicorn” that got a nerf was “The Dreamer”)
Changing aggro priority from Toughness to Power would shake things up a lot (and make more sense too).
I mean, if you were a monster, who would you nom on first? The tough chewy dude who barely tickles, or the squishy munchkin doing 20+k crits?

Actually you’ll be hard pressed to find people in the mid-level, out-of-the-way zones, even on the busiest servers.
This will help you find where everyone is, on your server:

also http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/
Best bet, as per above post, is to match the dailies (so for today, most probably Diessa).
But how is anyone supposed to know this from the start lol…i’m a beginner!
also i went into a WvW castle and nobody there too….
They’re probably all at the front lines, rather than durping in the spawn.
You can guest to any NA server.
I think, SoS was the unofficial Oceanic server, but that was months ago .. JQ + TC are often full at all hours.
DB is known for its SEA population so if you hang about a little longer you’ll get company.
Upgrades (badges replacing silver that is)
am really tempted to purchase this – but only when it’s confirmed to be working properly in WvW.
Would like to play (or hear) the William Tell Overture (finale), and Ride of the Valkyries.
I’ve read elsewhere on the forums that quick notes don’t play very well tho
Merciful Ambush: This trait now grants 2 seconds of stealth to you and your ally when beginning a revive.
It doesn’t say that anything will be added .. from the sounds of that, the mini duo-stealth might replace the ambush trap.
ahahahah .. this reminds me of the November patch when everyone anticipated the instagib build being nerfed into the stone age ..
A quick look over and permastealth isn’t touched, yet a lot of the decent alternates (S/D in particular) are gonna get hammered .. can see where we’re being steered, lol.
You’ll be upleveled to lvl 80.
Your gear will uplevel correspondingly – but if it’s not at the same level as you, it won’t be upleveled to 80-equivalent, which is gonna hurt your performance (and you).
Keep your gear at the same level as you, as much as possible.
Why do the Dragon Bash fireworks function differently to the originals?
The originals are more fun to fire off, droppable for others, and not even soulbound.
Simpler solution could be to make all Fireworks the same as that.
what would probably help is if there was indeed a “graveyard” server, to which inactive accounts get a free transfer after a set time (say 3 months away).
RNG is really more for those with more Gems than they know what to do with.
It’s like playing the lottery, that is, whatever you spend on it, expect to lose (and let’s not kid ourselves, for most it’s only the tickets that count. The candy is just a consolation prize).
Please keep in mind that for each person who spends like you, equals five who might have purchased the skins if they were available directly through the Gemstore.
That’s why we have to endure more of this RNG.
more/better Communication options
the requirement to be constantly moving and clicking things with both hands kills conversation, apart from when standing in aggro-free zones.
this makes me sad
don’t have any concrete suggestions, other than reworking controls.
Perhaps more “safe” areas, and certainly more emotes please.
when the Settler buff goes, the zerg goes .. where to, I wonder?
I’ve only ever seen the Queen Karka once (got wiped from all the karka spawns at the camp), yet received credit + chests for it each day.
The first time I wiped at the camp, I logged out then came back a few hours later and found that the big chest near her spawnpoint was visible + openable for me.
It seems that so long as you are in the area, fighting, you get credit.
haha, thanks for linking that vid; I’ve passed by that event so many times on the way to the Shatter pre-event and not appreciated the dialogue before.
Sounds like the same voice actor for Captain Penzan from the Pirates of Penzan event chain in Bloodtide – very similar script & sense of humour – and an easter egg (that I missed until recently) if you hang around at the end, he’ll sing “Modern Pirate General”. I bet that was fun for the actor too.
I doubt the katana would be added, even to the Cantha update, since it’s a distinctly cultural weapon.
The Naga Fang (or Ceremonial Sabre for 1h) looks about the closest you’d get.
The proper flavour of what you’re wanting from a katana, would be a new Legendary blade with a clean curved shape. Can only hope.
Seriously. The Katana is the most beautiful weapon ever designed in my opinion. It’s second only to the Apache Hellicopter Gunship, and that’s not a weapon type currently in the game!
heh, the Apache gunship did make a cameo in GW1 http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/KT29-Moahawk so the model exists and probably could be added (not that it should be, mind).
Not mentionning I won’t buy any gem because last time I did and tried for the MF precursor RNG I lost 50Euro to get nothing. Behind the train station in Luxembourg city for 50euro I would have something and it’s not RNG based
Enjoy fixing your game I ll be back in a month or two now ^^
Careful, you might catch something that is RNG-based, sorta like some irl Sclerite
(edited by Alacrity.4312)
keeping to the Sclerite theme:
Change the sickle to a Tentacle-whip, use the Consortium-whip animation.
Darken the waterspout to a Scleritic ooze, so that the ground “bleeds” when you whip those plants up.
thankyou dulfy for both vids – everyone can now make a more informed decision – not for me tyvm, though I did purchase the Molten pick and love it.
Personally I feel that the new sickle sound is the biggest improvement – the initial mining dinks were more offputting than the hoeing animation – but the overall effect is certainly less dramatic now.
Anet/NCSoft missed a golden opportunity here.
Since the sickle design is Sclerite, they could have made it more .. tentacular.
The waterspout a matching oily gloop that the Sclerite weps ooze.
Combine that with the Consortium Whip animation, and you’d have a winnar, people would flock to the gemstore in droves (well I’d buy it – a tentacle-whip that uproots plants and makes the ground bleed).

oh, I just found this thread.
On the one hand, I’m relieved now that it’s not just me/my mouse ..
on the other, 8 pages already .. this is overdue for a fix.
mini-Faren has to be the tackiest thing I’ve ever won .. and yet, there’s something perversely appealing about the lil dude, following me around without any armour. I think I’ll make him my dungeon mascot.
Legendary Defenders could be reskinned, would be a helpful reminder
you prolly missed this cool thread for that, here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/fangen/New-Patch-Meme-Thread/first
& my own bad one liner:
Arrowcart Mastery 2. will be renamed “Roundhouse Kick”
the WXP reset sounds promising .. but not in the way you think.
It will benefit most those who wasted their points in the “meh” tracks, ie Guards/Mercs/generic Siege, as well as the relatively meh 5th tier Cannon/Ballista.
Arrowcart Mastery overwhelmingly remains the strongest trait line, anyone who invested in that before will still do well to keep their points in it.
Changing the angle of the mortar tube gets my vote. If you alter the hang time of the shells and reload time as well, it would allow you to launch time on target barrages of say for example three mortar shells landing in the same place at the same time.
that’d be awesome, good suggestion for a trait option.
If it can’t/won’t be implemented, would be happy with an airburst option (like Clusterbomb)
today’s update didn’t address this? so disappoint .. but I know you guys are on it.
my impression (as others have pointed out) is that the traited range combined with non-projectile nature of AC fire is key to what makes them so OP.
AC Mastery is so over the top compared to other Siege Masteries, especially considering that AC’s are the cheapest and most spammable siege.
here’s an example of a simple way to tone it down a little:
Arrow Cart Mastery: Effect. (cost)
1. Increases radius of Basic arrow cart fire. (5)
2. Increases damage on Basic arrow cart fire. (10)
3. Increases effectiveness of Barbed Arrows. (15)
4. Skill: Fire Burning Arrows. Applies burning, can damage siege. (20)
5. Skill: Toxic Unveiling Shot. Removes stealth and applies poison to target. (25)
So far we have Arrowcart, Ballista, and Cannon Masteries.
It seems only natural that other lines of Siege Mastery will eventually appear.
What’s left:
Catas
Trebs
Rams
Golems
Oil
Mortars
Boosts in damage and range/radius feature in all three existing masteries.
What would be appropriate for the rest of them?
For example, a range boost would be essential (to me) for Catas, but maybe gamebreaking for Trebs, and .. amusing, for Oil.
I’d like to open this thread to suggestions for the remaining Siege Mastery tiers, and maybe identify what bonuses might be OP before they manifest.
I doubt there’ll ever be a refund; WxP’s kinda like skillpoints, rather than traits – there’s no limit how many you can earn.
But then I have to wonder, if I put the points in AC, are they then going to tone it down and I’ll be bummed I put my points there?
Don’t worry, even if the Arrowcart Mastery effects are halved, it will still be the best choice. The first level is now almost mandatory.
If you’re still undecided, save your points for Supply; by the time you amass 20 there may be other Masteries, and you’ll know what you want to spend them on.
agreed, +1
WvW has really gotten some love, and we know there’s more to come, thx to Devon&co
The most “fun” abilities are tied to the siege mastery lines (Cannon/Ballista/Arrowcart), with Arrowcart Mastery giving the greatest effect for little investment.
None of the other abilities have discernible effects, so won’t be “fun”. They’re just meant to be minor cool non-gamebreaking bonuses.
With your playstyle, I’d suggest you just sit on your points for now, maybe save them up for Supply.
The meta is changing with the latest patch; suggest you get some time on siege equipment to get a feel for it.
oh, and your “whirly wind thing” doesn’t work for siege defense anymore
Why not have resets every 56 hours?
That way each timezone gets a turn in their primetime every week, and will shake up the mix a bit more often.
Am refreshing this post – really useful advice, especially for those trialling WvW this weekend.
my 2ยข, seems like an obvious option so I’m sure the devs have considered it already:
- refund everyone’s 100g
- the Commander tag now costs Influence
Some of you are better with numbers than me, but for example:
- requires Politics V
- cost is 200 Influence for four hours
(might be too low – 1000/4hrs maybe – not in a big guild so I don’t know how easily Influence can be generated)
- account bound, still limited to the server
A guildie with the appropriate privileges can designate anyone as Commander for four hours.
Influence can still be purchased, of course; the focus is on larger guilds which should be able to field multiple commanders.
