The hype of the stories make them interesting, but the actual implementation leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve only been back a few months, but so far the “Living story” updates have been nothing but achievement grinds.
ie. Twilight arbor. There was almost no story anywhere. You were told to go to this dungeon and it was just another railroad dungeon, where you had no idea what or why you are doing this. The end boss you had to fight was somehow connected to a lock on a door and you needed to open that lock to allow Lionguard to rappel down. The boss was sealed in forcefield, until you deliberately opened the field and thus forcing you to fight the boss. Why?
ie. Halloween (not LS content I know). Start was a mini dungeon with a start of amazing story. Then you had to grind the achievements and magically you were then given the elemental you were asked to search. How did you acquire that elemental? By opening bags and doors? Where was the story and quest to search for that elemental?
ie. Nightmare tower. Again the start looked promising, you were asked to help search for antidote for the new poison. What that was? You had to do nothing, as the next content was coming anyway to allow you in to the tower.
There was that collecting spore samples, but those only gave you access to the store. Sure you could say that was the way you helped, but it could (and should) have been done much more interestingly. All the other content was just you trying to stop the spread of the corruption. Sure that was important, but why then was it advertised as helping to find the cure?
There has been very little actual story given, just a bunch of events on larger scale and achievements to go along with them. There has been no progress on finding explanations to the things, you are forced just to react to things and given no way to find anything about them.
So, please Anet, stop giving us achievement grind updates and if you keep calling them Living Story updates, then give us a story to follow. The update should be more about the story and not about achievements. The update completion gift should come from completing the quest/goal of the content update and not just doing the achievements.
Just started on me. Was logged on and did a quick relog to get my sounds back (they disappeared when I started Mumble). Now can’t log back in.

Candy corn fight is really easy if you pay attention to what is happening. If you just zerg and stomp on number 1, you will die a lot. Unfortunately that is the common tactic of many players. Then they complain that it’s too hard.
It helps if you have even a single mesmer to throw a bubble on the viscount when he starts the barrage. The Candy corns bounce back to him and knock his butt on the ground, allowing people more time to get in to pink puddles.
Legendaries should be quested and not thrown in after grinding and RNG luck.
A complex quest taking you to all corners and couple of dungeons would have been more entertaining than this RNG toilet grinding.
Sure RNG makes it so that not everyone is having one, but as it is not in any way based on your skill or amount of play time, it also makes the “Legendaries” just a luck item.
With good planning on the quest idea, it could have been also made so that it’s not easily available to everyone, but as Anet went the same way as other MMO’s on the difficulty scale of leveling and playing (super easy and top level in a couple week) it’s not sure they would have known how to make a difficult quest line.
2 weeks is too short as they only have a month time to actually work on it. That means no large expansions from that team. If they did a event every month with couple of weeks overlapping (if the story permits), it would give their design teams more time to actually come up with additions to the game.
So far the only additions to the game has been the Southshore and Fractals. Would love to see larger and more numerous dungeons and more public dungeons (also larger).
Have found two event activated public dungeons so far, and both have been fun. Too bad they are so short.
Most MMO’s are not for children.
There is not only the chat issue, but the content and talking of NPC’s that are not suitable for small children.
They might like to watch and see you playing, thus thinking that it is adult thing to do and as they want to appear more older, will want to play such games also. It is your job as their parent to decide if you want to expose your children to the filth and horrors of internet MMO’s, but if you are asking for opinions here then I have to say DO NOT LET THEM PLAY.
There are MMO’s more suitable for children and you can easily find them from sites such as www.mmorpg.com , but any game that focuses on killing and violence is not a suitable for younger children. You might think that you can control their players, but you are only fooling yourself there. They will start to play when you can not supervise and they will be open to the abuse of the player base.
If they do add this to even more mobs I would hope they would fasten the animation of the finishers. The start is slow and can get you killed if you just spam F and don’t look what is happening in the area.
Also, I don’t see downed state on “stupid” animals, but on all intelligent enemies it would make sense (and NO Risen are not intelligent, their bosses are but risen themselves are just zombies).
Where do you find the Quartz crystal nodes to get quartz crystal, so that you can then charge them with the super neat charging node in your home instance?
I understand they were in Bazaar of four wind map, but can’t figure how to get there. Is it active even anymore. If not, then how do people who weren’t active during that event going to get those crystals? Why market a bonus only for people who were active during a single two week event?
I agree on everything else but the armor score would only widen the rift between casual and hardcore. It would just lead to more people quitting thus weakening the total player base.
Torment makes you think about your actions. It’s annoying, but not everything should be easy.
I like it and hope they include them to all mobs.
I agree. There should be new DE’s with these living world events.
I was really disappointed when I realized that cities and home instances had no events. That made the cities feel dead and empty.
What Brother Grimm said.
You need to get within certain distance of the heart, before it comes visible. Not sure if this is only for those hearts that are in middle of nowhere as someones seem to pop up in map as soon as the mist is gone.
Just explore and look where in that area you have not yet been. There are dozens of cool events that need a startup player for them.
Woodland cascades or Isles of Janthir. Anything to get away from those Risen, so tired of those.
It would be easier to follow those calculation if they all were without any buffs, potions, runes and other enhancing abilities.
But as those runes and sigils and other buffs/traits are a major part of different builds and how they work, it would be best to just note max power and max crit as two base lines.
But I would leave out bloodlust and potions.
I’m just starting a Mesmer (level 36 so far) and been experimenting and trying to learn the class.
After heavy reading here I came up with the following build. Have not yet had a chance to try it out, but the idea is using phantasms with the help of mantra healing/damage.
I do mostly PvE with some dungeons (now that I have the level for them).
I do prefer GS and like sword/pistol, but swordsman seems to be better than the duelist, thus the sword/sword combo.
It’s 0/20/0/25/25 build.
The problem is that turrets have too large meaning. Take away the poison pools and give Tequila damage mitigation buff and turrets a aoe buff that allows dps to bypass it.
It’s just that most of the EU population is german, but …
Uhmm? As European I do find that hard to believe. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_countries_by_population
Germany includes 10.93% of European population.
It’s been several years since I was in school, but 10.93% wasn’t majority back when I was in school. Sure the mathematics might have been changed since then.
But back to original post.
English is one of the most popular languages and easily understandable in multiple countries. So speaking and typing English is common courtesy so that majority of players will actually understand you.
And no, my first language isn’t English.
There is too much riding on turrets and their ability to remove poison, buff zerg and keep the bone wall away. This needs to be fixed for the more casual players to have chance in this.
Simple solution is lower the amount of poison pools and allow players to use potions to clear the waters. If Quaggans can make a turret that shoots potions to clear them why not give those potions to zerg fighters.
With the lessening of poison pools this would be much simpler fight.
He don’t need to be nerfed, but the mechanics of getting your guild on the same server need to be addressed.
One solution could be to allow commanders an ability to make an overflow for himself and allow then people in. But of course that would be the same as making the whole fight instanced, which they have stated they do not want to make (actually it was said about the game and not only about this fight).
What is not fun is to wait several hours and then not get in to fight because the overflows fill up in ten seconds. Then waiting another couple of hours trying to get in and hoping someone will leave that overflow.
I agree that the rewards should have been upped for this content.
Sure you get more chests, but after defeating Tequatl I got 2 yellows, 4 greens and I think it was 5-6 blues. Plus crafting junk and karma bottles.
I’m fully equipped on exotic gear, so those rares and greens and blues were just junk for me. I understand that not all are equipped on exotic, but it cost me about 5 golds and 130k of karma to get them. So they are not that expensive.
The chances of getting exotic or ascended gear should increase by multiples after getting him to 50% and lower health as most people able to take him down allready have atleast rare set on.
Have only done about half a dozen fractal runs, but in all of them at least one party member has been disconnected at some part. Real fun trying to do 3rd phase end boss with only three members active and two sitting and waiting us at vendors.
