If you are new player and don’t have tomes and scrolls, then answer is all the classes are fast levelers.
I don’t know what you mean by efficiency, but survilability (is that even a word?) is an issue of course. There an warrior is good choice, but so is ranger, mesmer, guardian, engineer and necro.
Best way to level is do events around the zone and not just focus on the heart quests. Events give you tons of more exp than just killing mobs and you also get money and karma plus everything you loot from mobs you kill in the event.
Optional PvP with Sylvari vs rest of races would be fun in Maguuma.
With optional I mean you have to click your PvP on and after certain time (1 minute?) it would allow you to fight others who have opted for it. All Sylvari who opt for it would be in Mordremoth side and others in one side. Not sure if Mordies NPC’s should be neutral to PvP Sylvari as that could be used to skip places, but it would be more realistic.
Then in future content other races would have similar options in their racial enemy areas.
I like how they are now tougher and more challenging fights. Before they were walkovers, but now you actually have to work together and not just pile DPS on them.
Please Anet, do not “fix” what is not broken and is actually better for the game.
We have three year anniversary next month, then Halloween in October and another toy X-mas in December. So basically all events to the end of the year.
Possibly in September they could start with the guild halls, but doubtful on that.
At this rate we might see release on early 2016 or summer 2016. I really doubt they will put all these other celebrations on hold just for the release. Would I like to see it released this year, heck yes. But not going to happen.
I love my Ranger. It was my first class and I had all ready decided on that well before Beta (which is why I didn’t play Ranger in betas).
But after leveling it to 80 and then going to other classes I was horribly surprised that all the other classes were much better in over all than Ranger. Sure I could kite and kill just about anything. Even Mesmer was far superior on taking down groups without even getting hit and even Warrior with it’s “weak” DPS was killing mobs much faster than my Ranger.
My latest is my Necro and everyone whines how weak he is, but he can still kill group of mobs in the time Ranger kills one.
Then came the realization that my Ranger actually didn’t do anything use full in groups. My DPS is weak and pet AI mucks up in just walking straight lines, I have very few combo finishers (unless I use warhorn) and also not very good fields (except water field) that I can put down.
On boss fights I struggle to do enough DPS to get a bag from Champions and even doing 50k+ damage I still won’t get it sometimes.
Still I do love my Ranger and I still can kill just about anything while soloing, it just takes more time and effort than with my other classes.
I only use it for jumping puzzles, but then again I’m not that agile and tend to miss jump often.
Night time. Give us actual dark night time with length depending on the time of the year.
The problem that I see is that the number of releases they do (wiki – A release is a game update that introduces content pertaining to a theme or event.) are lessening and the time between releases are getting longer and longer.
In 2013 they released 21 updates according to the wiki. In 2014 it was 17 and now in 2015 they have so far released one (1). The year is over one third gone and we have one release update?
Yes, people are exited that there will be expansion. But the expansion isn’t done and it seems they are not doing anything other than working to get the expansion done. This causes the problem that the “living world” is getting stagnant, there is nothing new happening and nothing is moving forward.
It’s the same two and half year old events over and over again, with nothing making a difference. Is that living world? No it isn’t. There are no new events and no new bosses trying to get a foot in. After over two years since the defeat (death?) of Elder Dragon Zhaitan, there has been no movement in the battle lines (except his lieutenant Tequatl is even stronger than two years ago, but still getting it’s tail kicked between his legs). Is that the living world, where players actions can be seen? No it isn’t.
I have been waiting for the expansion for almost two years now and was happy doing the other release updates as they at least brought something new, even if temporary, to the world. It worked that some of them was temporary as the story was moving forward. I really thought they had been working on the expansion since the start of LS2 , but now it seems they had only rough ideas and only started after LS2 had ended.
It can’t be money issue as Anet is doing nicely, so they should be able to hire more people if they need them. Also the coming expansion will be bringing them truck loads more, as it will be bought no matter what. So the only reason I can see is that they only work on one item at time as they have minimal crew and want to keep stockholders and investors happy with maximum profits for them.
I’m just here hoping my Druid can dress in his druidic robes, without having to pay 1000 gems for it.
With the old (current) system your trait lines could be 4/4/4/2/0 with traits chosen from 36 different chosen traits (10/10/10/0/6).
With the new (future) system you get to choose three (3) trait lines from six combinations, two lines if you want to get the new specialization. Each line gives you 9 traits from which to choose from, for a total of 27 different traits. But you only have three choices per trait tier, unlike in the old system you could put lower tier traits on high spots.
The new system seems to be another “make it easier for players, who we know to be dumb morons” upgrade.
Sure it makes the choices easier, but it also removes hundreds of possible combinations and forces each to take the grandmaster traits and limits us to three lines only.
I kept my mouse button 2 pressed all the time and it was getting really tiresome on my hand. Then I downloaded Immersive combat mod (http://wesslen.org/ICM/) and have been using it for months.
Really helps out and makes the game more fun. It doesn’t give you any advantage, but just eases out that you don’t have to press button for mouse look all the time.
Just tried to kill him melee with my warrior, came here to see why I was doing zero ( 0 ) damage to him on four consequent phases.
Looks like I have to go ranged on him then.
So, no matter what they do you are not happy?
Having three players DC at same time is not common occurrence, nor even uncommon, it’s pretty rare. About precursor rare in my experience, as in never seen one so far.
Having three of them log off in middle of dungeon, without leaving the party, sounds really strange and have only seen people logging off after the last boss in dungeons.
This 3-person vote is much, much, much better than the simple 2-person vote. Yes it can cause problems and yes you can still get kicked out of your own group/dungeon, but it will lessen the problems caused by the 2-person vote.
Nice post. Really like the investment idea. It would give some use for WvW badges, but it would have to be limited by time on how often you could donate to the cause per keep. Otherwise people with hundreds of thousands of badges would just spam it to top tier in minute.
Having the bosses move around would help a lot. Now they just stand in one place and players stand in specific spots and attack them. Really fun and spectacular, or not.
Managed to do the Dodgy crowd when I went in with a friend. First I agroed the mobs and he got the achi, then we did again so he agroed and I stayed a side sniping and I got the achi.
I’d like to use the sword, but with the bouncing around it’s just not that fun and it actually makes evading harder.
Now I use axe but that isn’t melee weapon, for some reason, as all of it’s attacks are ranged and can be bounced back to you with reflection.
I use frost spirit a lot and have traited it to follow me.
I know it isn’t the most efficient use, but find it easier to kill in rapid sequence with it following me. Most trash mobs die so fats that I don’t spend time on summoning it, but veteran and elite mobs take more than single Rapid Fire to kill, so there it’s useful.
Having played Elementalist to 80 and doing story missions on her I have to say an Elementalist does die a lot more than my other characters.
That said, the class is very strong on single target DPS, AoE DPS and heals. So basically that one class can do just about everything. With water you get plenty of extra heals and with earth or air you have either walls or invulnerabilities galore.
It’s all about your weapon and play style. Staff Ele is not the strongest one there, although he can do a lot of AoE damage and cc. I prefer dagger/focus as that gives you lot of mobility and you don’t have to stand still to channel attacks.
The personal story missions can be hard sometimes, but they are very easy when you know the tactics of that story and know how to use your skills to their best. Best way to learn is to play and learn from your mistakes. As a starting class Elementalists are one of the hardest classes in GW2, along there with Mesmers and Engineers (my opinion).
If you want to play overpowerfull Elementalist use summoned weapons like Ice bow and Flaming greatsword to flash kill bunch of mobs. Just remember to keep moving, you are weak on hitpoints.
Each and every human being is different, that said each and every human being finds different things to be fun.
I don’t know you so well, that I could tell you what you will find most fun to play, but there is no single best class in the game. Each class has it’s own strengths and weaknesses. Some are better than others in different parts of the game (PvE, PvP, WvW, Dungeons, Bosses, solo play, group play etc…), but each and every class can pull their own weight in all aspects.
Some classes are very easy to play compared to other classes (warrior vs mesmer), but that don’t mean they are weaker or better. It all depends on your own play style.
Just about all classes can be played in range or in melee or switching between them.
Thief is about fast DPS and he’s good at it, but he’s not that good when being swamped by half a dozen mobs. He has skills to get out of situation like that, but ie a warrior in similar situation would just go haywire and kill the mobs. But the warrior has almost no skills to get out of bad situations, other than pummeling them to mushy pulp. A ranger could leave his/her/it’s trusted pet to fight and run away and lay traps to slow pursuing mobs.
Each class has it’s own way to resolve situations.
My advice is keep the thief for now, but use another character slot and try different classes to at least level 15, with different weapon sets. Yes it takes time, but that is the only way for you to know what class you find most fun to play.
Living story is not an expansion nor content upgrade. It is a story of the world as it goes on and towards the future. Thus you can access only the story as it is now.
If you want to be able to play all the content, you must be playing when the events are happening.
The Anet has made it so that players can, if they want to, go back and play these episodes again or even get them if they were not online when these happened. This is a mistake in my opinion. All the things that have happened, have happened.
Why can we jump back in time to these specific instances, but not to other times? It would make little more sense if they made it to be a dream or something similar or even fractal pieces (for solo/duo fractal play).
I hope there will be craftable gliders in the future.
Something that needs artificing and leatherworking to make. And please let us choose some colors to them, unlike the backpacks and aqua gear you have given us.
I really hope they allow us to lower the fireworks shows.
At the moment it’s really hard to even see the enemy under all the light effects. I just don’t understand how do people see the hints of special attacks that need to be dodged, when I can’t even see the mob.
It would be helpful if you could choose what kind of particles you want to be shown and from what players.

My Mesmer can get her three phantasms out in about 3-5 seconds, usually don’t bother as the mobs die so fast.
My Ranger on other hand can easily dish out more damage than my warrior on single targets, while not getting much hits on himself.
So, yes Warriors are down in DPS, but that’s ok for me. I like it that way. They have way more other abilities to bring forth than just DPS.
The information is given when the sale starts.
No shop will say to you “Don’t buy yet, we have sale coming next week”
Oh dear god, no no no and no please.
The down leveled character is way too strong even now and should be down scaled even more, to make it challenging going against normal opponents. Most veterans and some champions can easily be soloed, even by rookie players if they do more than spam 1 2 3 4 5.
By the time you get to level 80 you should have enough karma or gold to get decent rare (yellow) or exotic (orange) gear. Of course if you still use level 65 blue’s on your level 80 character, you will be having a hard time in any zone. Your gear should always be as close to your current level as possible.
About dungeons, they really are easy (most of them at least) if you stop and think what is happening. Again, spamming 1 2 3 4 5 will not work in this game. You must move and dodge and keep your abilities ready to be used when you need them.
ie. If your group puts a full stack (25) of Vulnerability on boss, it makes no sense for you to try to spam more vulnerability on him, until some of the previous stack has dissipated.
Ask and learn about other classes and especially read about your own abilities and skills. It makes you a better player when you can anticipate what abilities others can and will use.
And again, pleas Anet do not make the same mistake every other MMO has done (and thus lost their customers) and make the game too easy and fast leveling. It is very fast all ready and about being easy? If you know your class, it is easy.
So you want everything now and easy?
That is the problem with todays games and kids, they are given everything they want immediately that they want it.
You want that “devoted” players are able to progress as fast as they want. Well, they can. Devoted players log in everyday and you, by your own words, you are not devoted player. Why should you then get all the rewards immediately?
Please keep somethings hard in game.
I myself was away for extended period, as I grew bored in the game. But I accept that I do not have hundreds of Laurels that I need because of that. I do not try to change the system, because of my own faults.
Silverwastes and Dry Top is nothing but boring grind for the items there.
All classes are equally viable on PvP and PvE. It all depends on your trait build and play style.
What I want to know if the specialization will be permanent change or if you can switch back to your old profession.
It would make more sense if it was permanent and I did get that expression from the video, but would like to get confirmation on that.

@WP. I spoke with Colin at the after party. Only one specialty per class at this time. It works very much like a secondary profession where you can mix and match your skills. It can also be modified any time you are out of combat.Unclear if each class is only getting one new weapon but from the ranger speciality it appears at least that the new weapons come from the new specialties.
Also, jumping into the specialty gives you new trait options however it also restricts what traits you can use. Exactly what/how wasn’t specified.
Colin has said that it can be modified out of combat, just like current traits are.
But then he also has said that it restricts what traits you can use, that would imply non permanent change.
Questions about Pricing and Payment [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Alerno.1425
I think fair price would be between 15 and 30 Euros, but having said that I will pay what it will cost anyway. Sorry about that.
I believe so as they did talk a lot about endgame progression. There is no split between casual and dedicated players, except the number of level 80 characters they have (dedicated have 3+ level 80 chars, while casual have 1-3).
Leveling in this game is so easy and fast that even casual will get there in few months.
I do hope they would make something for below 80 characters too, but all past LS arcs and this reveal shows they do not care too much about levels 20-79.
I was hoping new areas for 40-70 on this update, but no.
What expansions? You have evidence of something?
A bandit asks you to give him 2 golds and you say yes, thinking nothing happens?
What’s wrong with people? Of course he should take your gold if you willingly want to give it to him. Read the texts for Tyria’s sake.
If it is really an expansion they, I hope it is a good size expansion and not just one or two level 80 zones. There should be expansion zones for lower level characters too.
Also I hope they finally bring that Commando class to game :p
Living Story is nice addition and it’s different from many other games in that the world is changing. But as has been said in this thread many times, it’s not enough if there is nothing else.
It brings something more to do and see for couple of hours after release and possibly for a day or two after that. But all the LS is not equal to a expansion. Why? Because a new player would have lot more to do and see with expansion than with the LS that he can’t play as it has already happened. The LS is addition but it needs something more alongside it to become a full upgrade on what to do in the game.
Most players are not interested in doing it again and again, unlike the dungeons and world bosses which are gone through again and again.
Also what bugs me in LS is that everything else is always put on hold and only the one thing that current LS episode does is taken into account. Why is the no change in the status of what has been happening elsewhere? What about Pale tree? What about the pact, why is there no sign of the new heading of pact in their citadel? If episode ends with NPC X going to go home and do thing Y. Why can’t I find NPC X in his home and ask how it’s going?
So far the LS has been railroaded story, where you can’t do anything but one thing only. NPC’s can send me mail asking them to meet me, but I as their boss can’t get hold of them. Really? I though I was their boss.
Enough ranting for now. Back to the goals of GW2.
Goals I’d like to see published from Anet side are not what the story brings, but more on the lines of improvements to home instances (yes I know about the thread about it, but there is nothing if it will ever happen), new races and classes, new dungeons (there are plenty of places in the current world already to include new dungeons), new areas to live in and see (not just small story areas, but full zones). In generally what is coming to GW2 other than Living Story, so far it has been nothing and if it will not change Anet will be losing lot’s of players as the LS is not enough.
I don’t think players want to know the direction of the story ahead of the release times, but we do want to know the direction of the game. It’s not the same thing.
When I think of direction of a game I think of expansions, additions to current classes, new classes and weapons, new skills or whatnots and especially new areas to see and discover.
That is not the same thing as revealing a story plot line, but giving your paying customers (I know the game has no monthly subscription, but people pay by buying gems) information on what kinds of improvements are in the plan ahead.
You don’t need to say this and that comes out next month, instead you give us an hope that there will be more to this game at some point. Sure it might take a year, but it’s on the planning.
Unfortunately, blooping out that there is no plan for new dungeons, is not a good information, but it is still information. Sure I don’t like it, but now I can focus on other things than waiting for another dungeon.
I like the map, much better than single canyon run of Dry top (second part). I just had a secret wish that it would be bigger. It’s again another small map and overfilled with mobs and events.
Yes I know it’s warzone, but they could have done it with bigger map too and then the forts would not have been so ridiculously close to each others.
All the added maps have been small so far and Dry Top is not even connected to Silverwastes.
After four hours I had done the story and checked the whole map (skillpoints and vistas, not all achievements). Oh well, nothing to do but grins the achievements now and wait for this to continue.
Please don’t “fix” this. It’s easy as it is.
As said here already, just focus on menders as they appear and stay away from the balls. When nothing else is going on, range the statue.
Have done this solo on three characters and had no problem on any run.
You have to be aware of your surroundings and listen when the mender comes. Don’t try to get aggro from all the mobs in area and let the NPC’s just tank alone.
GW2 has tons of content and has had since the day it started. The problem is that after two years most, not all, players have played through them multiple times. The pace of the game is fast and there is no time to smell the flowers in a dungeon.
That said the game need a extensive update in form of new classes, new races, new weapons, new weapon skills for old weapons, new traits, new utility skills (both racial and class) and most importantly new areas that are not just for the level 80 characters.
Level 80 characters can go to level 15 area and explore there, but level 15 character can’t survive in level 80 area.
Why doesn’t Anet make more use of the single most impressive idea they had for the game, the level scaling downwards. Sure it’s bugged now as it’s effect is too little and level 80 chars are way too powerful in lower areas. hopefully that can and will be fixed at some point.
At the moment I’m at the point that I’ll look at the next LS story and do it, but I seriously doubt I’ll hang on after that. There just isn’t anything to do in the game after you have multiple chars at 80 and have done map completion multiple times. Sure I’d like to have some special items and stuff, but it’s getting harder and harder to be exited to log on.
I just did it with two of my chars last weekend. No grouping and just jumped in. Working.
It’s not important enough for them to work on. If they really wanted to solve the problem, they could have done it months ago.
Just saying same thing over and over again that they are reviewing and working on it, doesn’t change the mater that absolutely nothing has been done with it.
Since the last year post about this subject we have had multiple changes, some of them big and some of them small. But nothing on conditions. Just remove them if you can’t fix them.
I just want magic find to make a difference.
Magic find makes a huge difference.
How does the magic find make a HUGE difference? How does it work?
I had understood that it increases your chance on rares drops.
So if there was drop chance of 1:1 000 for item Y (that’s 0.1%) and I had magic find 100% it would double that chance to whopping 1:500 (0.2%). With magic find of 200% you would have 1:333 (0.3%).
Is this correct assumption on how it works?
I’ve been using my birthday boosters for weeks now (with multiple characters) and have seen a increase in rare drops (I have MF 113 unbuffed), but not much of increase in exotic drops. What I mean that in the past couple weeks I have found whopping total of three exotics. I have been running dungeons, world bosses, fractals and lately some PvP. I have also done map completion from 80% to 100% with one of my chars.
I usually play about 3-5 hours per day and 4-6 days a week. On total I usually get about 20-30 hours of gametime per week.
When I popped those birthday boosters and saw my MF jump well over 200%, I really expected to see an exotic drop almost daily.
So if Magic Find really makes a HUGE difference, how come increasing it from 113% to 226% doesn’t make a huge difference?
Considering their released information in the past months, they are very much focusing on PvP and WvW at the moment. Most of the news have been about changes to PvP side of the game or tournaments and such.
Those CDI’s are nice, but the effect from them will be seen in later part of next year. They take ideas now and then start to think what they can do and how. It will not be coming in the next few months.
I really would like to have had those new traits and skills they told us they are working on in summer 2013, but things change. Just give us information even if it later then changes. Then you give us information about that change. This is all about information.
36000 achievement points (AP)
As Mike O’Brien said in a recent post, "We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: we don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along.
There is a difference on stringing people along and giving information.
I don’t really care what new maps are coming next, but I do care a lot if there will be a real additions to the map (the two small areas we have had since launch are nice, but they are just too small) or new races/classes at some point.
Stringing people along would, in example, be to promise them an expansion X. Giving people information would be saying that we are developing an expansion to be revealed at later. There is a difference.
Make the bosses move around, not in the whole zone, but at least in the fighting area. Static standing bosses are easy target for the zerker DPS just standing in spot.
Give mobs heals and multiple abilities, and make them use them. Now most mobs are set into one category. You got a mob that heals, another that does knockbacks, one that does buffs etc. All players do all the above and more. If mobs would do multiple abilities and all healed themselves, the fights would be a lot more complicated and interesting.
